I would like to think that blogging has a way of getting into the conscience of people and changing a few things here and there. If some people say nothing will come out of it, then bloggers should stand up and prove to these people that nothing can daunt them, that words are still powerful tools in effecting social change. http://www.offbeatmom.blogspot.com

I would love for the government to start paying ordinary citizens who work thier butts off harder than any multibillionaire does on any given day.

Who played the financial markets to crash down for Obama's favor? THE TIMING WAS VERY CRITICAL. Right when Mccain was in the lead. How many "international " investors were involved? who is bent to make Barack Husein Obama the POTUS? fIRST THEY PLAYED THE energy crisis. WE beat them. Then they withdrew their holdings and support for our fianancial system. "AMERICA had it coming". WE entertained all these back stabbers who were more than ready to pull the money away from wall street market. All so legally. Govt had to step in to stop the short sale of uSA. YOu liberals who play with antiamerican terrorist coutries, we will let you know you also hold the other end of this stick.

@ Ivan - I would disagree with you wholly that blogging cannot change the world. During the 5.12 earthquake, one of the blogs that I have established (www.china-crossroads.com) became a place where over 50 local NGOs were given space to advertise their needs. We had 1500 people coming to the site every day , and I have been told on a number of occasions that funding decisions were made based on the information that was provided by our blog. While a local example, and perhaps our platform would not expand past China, I am confident that there is an ability to develop a platform that would bring other successful & credible platforms togeher that would have a significant impact. Would it cure all the world's ills? No, but it would change the world.

    • Posted By: Ivan_Russian @ 10/10/2008 2:25:45 AM

Crossroads - you said that your platform helped to find decision? Hmmm.. maybe.
But how can you estimate the real effect from your blog? Did you take into account alternative way of using this time? Or you summarized total lost profit effect from the time of that thousands people (in case if they worked instead of blogging)?
Of cource I think blogs can be helpful in some cases - but I am for NARROW-SPECIALIZED forums for specialists - only in that case they can mace a proper decision... Otherwise its just a wasted time.

Bloggers are a joke. This a clear case of self-justification. Bloggers do not contribute anything to the economy- there is no value added service provided.

    • Posted By: Ivan_Russian @ 10/10/2008 2:00:10 AM

      Absolutely right!
It would be better if every blogger could make something useful for its economics... (and not only "bla-bla").

Obama's Campaign Paid Over $800,000 To ACORN For Get-Out-The-Vote Efforts, But "Mistakenly Misrepresented" Their Work To The FEC:

Obama's Campaign "Paid More Than $800,000" To ACORN For Get-Out-The Vote Efforts; The Campaign Originally "Misrepresented" The Group's Work To The FEC. "U.S. Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign paid more than $800,000 to an offshoot of the liberal Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now for services the Democrat's campaign says it mistakenly misrepresented in federal reports. An Obama spokesman said Federal Election Commission reports would be amended to show Citizens Services Inc. -- a subsidiary of ACORN -- worked in 'get-out-the-vote' projects, instead of activities such as polling, advance work and staging major events as stated in FEC finance reports filed during the primary." (David M. Brown, "Obama To Amend Report On $800,000 In Spending," Pittsburgh Tribune Review, 8/22/08)

The link below describes how some in Congress tried to use the original version of the bailout bill to divert money eventually recovered to groups like ACORN, a group Obama has a long association with. See:

In a few weeks we will make a choice that will decide our future.
I follow an economist named Bob Proctor. He has called the top and bottom of every market crash since the 70s correctly.
Also, he perfectly predicted the current real estate market meltdown and the picture he paints about what will happen in the next couple years
is terrifying. He thinks it will be worse then the great depression.
The banks in the U.S. are going under one after the other. Countrywide ,Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers and Merrill Lynch , Fanny and Freddy Mae ,AIG
The government took them over because they are essentially bankrupt. Even with the goverment nationalizing hundreds of billions of dollars in debt the stock market is crashing
the credit markets are frozen and all of us may suffer beyond anything in the last 80 years.
McCain just like Bush " doesn't understand the economy".
That not just my opinion its his own words. Not only does he not understand how to fix it but he does not understand exactly what is broken.
It is no surprise that he doesn't. The people that make up these securities use complex mathematical models very few people understand.
Bush and McCain both can take the credit for this mess since they helped deregulate the laws that were protecting us.
Bush's economic advisor Phil Graham wrote the deregulation bill that allowed banks to take huge risks with all of our future.
Now, Phil Graham is the head of McCain's economic policy. He is also McCain's choice for the next secretary of the treasury.
No one in this country can afford for that to happen. The last time Bush met with his economic advisors was in March. He didnt realize that anything was wrong. Phil Graham had the guts to say that we are in a mental recession after he helped create the worst economy meltdown in our lifetime. Check out this link to the truth http://my.barackobama.com/keatingvideo
It will take the best and brightest minds in the world to get us out of this nightmare. As bad as Bush has done, McCain would be
even more destructive because things are in much worse shape. The next president will not inherit a surplus like Bush did but a crashing economy and a 11,600,000,000,000 (trillion) dollars deficit. Most of it Bush created and it will take decades to pay it back.
If you do what you have always done then you will get what you have always got.
When it comes to policy Bush and McCain are the same 90 percent of the time.
So why are the polls even close then ?
Mccains team just said they no longer want to talk about the economy.Instead they would like to spend time talking about obama
which means running the biggest smear campaign in history.
They think they can just tell you lies and you wont be smart enough to see through it
Let's teach him we are smarter than that .
    Elect Obama Biden 2008

Save the world? They are destroying it for God's sake. Both the far left and far right are the angriest, unhappiest, and most pessimistic bunch I have ever seen. They are liars, hypocrites, and in many cases anti American in their rantings.

Using online forums to change the world is something that will take on more credibility as those who manage programs begin to link together to form true platforms. In China, we are trying to accomplish this through our Crossroads platform (www.china-crossroads.com), but hurdles exist as it takes time to attract executives, NGOs, academics, and citizens to the same platform.

Its strange to read in this article that kind of things: "...the world's most entrenched problems: climate change, immigration, ethnic cleansing and so on..." sounds like attemption to bring us to somebody`s way of thinking...
Lack of common sense is the main problem in modern society.
Things are always "going wrong" for the last century, remember? )) Population is permanently bluffed with the only object to - its better to rule over stupid fearful crowd than over clever people (instead of solving really important problems...)
Blogging is useful only if most of bloggers can think by they own way... basing on flat facts - unlike repeating "something from reliable sourses"...
From this standpoint blogging CAN NOT save the world... just maybe can help to one man of thousands to realize how he is used in global planing...
