Conservative talk radio offering prayers and being gracious about Obama's election... Boy, some people really have selective listening. Those people are defensive, hateful and oposing the guy even before he takes office! Just tune in to Sean Hannity and listen to the intro.
i was once naive enough to think i understood women. the bottom line is palin got where she is by being a hypocrite. for that fact alone. to me, she is ugly.
Is it not amazing that the two conservative women that did not vote for Obama wish him nothing but the best as I have head many conservatives say. But the two liberals, (the party of love and tolerance) are so full of hate and nastiness. We graciously have accepted and offered our prayers to President Elect Obama a much different picture then the left when they lost in 2004. I have been listening to conservative talk radio that have offered their prayers to Mr. Obama. All the left gave President Bush was a huge amount of hate, disrespect and even a movie about his assasination. I thought they were so full of love and forgiveness. What an incredible joke.
you are upset because men can't drink enough alcohol to date you
you are just upset because men can"t drink enough alcohol to date yoy
When John McCain picked Sarah Palin to be his running mate my reaction was, "Oh my God, he has just handed the presidency over to Obama." At that point, any focus on Obama's inexperience shifted to Palin and stayed there. I voted for Hillary; change, with experience. If Obama performs well, I'll certainly vote for him the next time around. But with two wars going on and an economy in the tank, I couldn't bring myself to vote for a rookie.
I did not vote for Obama as I did not and do not think he has the experience to lead having no national or international experience whatsoever. But, he is our President. Mr Obama made three very large promises - to end the war in Iraq within 16 months or less; to give 95% of Americans a tax cut; and to he affordable health coverage for all Americans, While he made other promises, these were the three that he used to beat Senator Clinton and then John McCain. If he delivers on ALL three, then my congratulations and my support. If he fails to deliver, then I and many like me with no that he was and is noting more than a good speech reader and orator and nothing more. Best of luck Mr Presindent - it is up to you to prove that your supporters made the right choice
I di dnot vote for him but he is our President - Congratulations. Now, we get to judge if he was all talk or if he can make good on his pledges: Ened the Iraq war in 16 months or less; give 95% of Americans a tax cut; get affordble health insurance to all Americans. These are the Big 3 and the promises he touted most vociferously, so I will judge him on just these three. if he delivers, then my congratulations. if he fails, then i will know that he was just a good speech reader and orater.
I believe that the nation is not ready for a minority as president, mostly not at this critical time of economic crisis and war. We need to keep our heads focused on our future as a nation , not making history on electing a minority into office.
I guess the world was ready for a minority...make sure you call him President OBAMA
Minority? Get off that, Race has nothing to do with this. Obama is qualified and he is atuned to the needs of the people, he could have picked a fancy law firm after Harvard and made lots of money, but he worked for non-profits instead, that says a lot to me, he knows what he majority of us are going through.
No matter if the United States likes it or not He is the President! Hate never died and it never will, the world just has to realize that you can not please everybody no matter what you do! So for those who hate Obama for the color of his skin then God bless you cause in the BIBLE I read God will have the last say so! And He loves everyone RED,YELLOW, BLACK,AND WHITE! You better know what your doing when u do wrong to others it will ALWAYS come back on you!
I notice a majority of negative comments regarding Sarah Palin. She's not a good role model for women, she hasn't held a leadership position long enough, the State she is governor of is too small, she has a few skeletons in her closet. What petty, picky reasons. Let me tell you something, Sarah Palin has managed to accomplish something that few women have been able to do.
Dispelling the arguments:
1-She has done something, in fact, that Obama, McCain and Biden have been unable to do - had the opportunity to govern a state. Obama's 1-1/2 years in the Senate does not give him more experience at governing anything over Palin's mayoral and governorships - contrary to what seems to be popular belief. Regardless of how little the population of Alaska is - she has had the chance to govern more people than both presidential candidates combined, even if you through in the other running mate. So that argument, I believe throws the population of Alaska out as a consideration.
2- Her daughter is pregnant: And your point is? Her daughter is the only pregnant teen in the United States? I seriously doubt that we would find many people that haven't either been the product of a single mother, know a single mother or be a single mother herself. I doubt it's worse than the Kennedy family reputation of rapists and murderers, but no one is suggested that Ted Kennedy resign his influential position because a few of his children were numbskulls.
3- Sarah Palin was "handed" her potential position in politics: To use Hillary Clinton as a comparison - maybe not the best. No one heard of her outside or Arkansas until her husband ran for president. Any potential position in politics that she has, she's gotten from being married to him. I doubt Mrs. Palin was elected to her posts in Alaska becuase so many people admired her husband. Ms. Palin may have more in common with Nancy Pelosi. Perhaps someone would like to try to garnish the similarities between them, but Nancy Pelosi hasn't lost a Democrat bid for the Presidency.
Face it, there have only been 43 chances for the Presidency. Not one candidate has worked for a Fortune 500 corporation, most likely wouldn't have been hired by one, have only dealt with the private sector when negotiated having their homes cleaned or lawns mowed (or plowed) or their children cared for. The only person in politics that I'm aware of in my locale that has been totally exposed to the private sector is Rep. Caroline McCarthy, who's husband was tragically murdered on the LIRR by Colin Ferguson. A housewife that had to budget and pay bills, worried about real estate taxes and electric bills and saved to send a son through college and was really exposed and aware of the problems faced by the middle class. Neither McCain or Obama have a clue on what we have going through our heads and what makes us bite our nails.
I am sorry but I disagree with your. How long have she been Governor? Sure she have been selling Alaska to the highest bidder. Alaska is the last frontier to spoil. Sure lets "Drill, baby, Drill! Like that is good for our environment. We as women make choices, we chose to marry, we chose to have kids. I think Sarah Palin should stay in Alaska and raise her kids, the youngest being only months old. Sorry, but there's many examples that we cannot be Superwomen, something have to give, in this case it most likely be the kids, regarding her daughter pregnancy, its most likely an escape because she is not getting the attention she needs, and mom is just a Governor. In this are I am speaking from experience, having been pregnat as a teen. Sarah and Hillary cannot be compared, Hillary has a law degree and worked as a lawyer for years, what does Sarah has? A BS in Journalism, I do not think she would have been elected as Governor in any major state, gotcha!
This whole worthless discussion shows exactly what the problem with "feminism" in America. We don't need a dialogue about race ... we need an intelligent discussion on gender. The media is the absolute worst perpetrator. The US is light years behind Europe in their views on women. Talking about fashion when it comes to women in politics? Yeah, we've got real depth here. Thanks Newsweek for your usual fluff and lack of substance.
Of all the comments listed here, Higher Minds was by far the best. I am an American woman who has lived in Europe for over 40 years. You're right; they are light years ahead of the U.S. I have a very hard time accepting this as an American woman (who grew up in the '50's, no less). What has happened to us to produce this drivel in 2008???????
go back for another 40 years I will help pay for a plane ticket
In a few weeks we will make a choice that will decide our future.
I follow an economist named Bob Proctor. He has called the top and bottom of every market crash since the 70s correctly.
Also, he perfectly predicted the current real estate market meltdown and the picture he paints about what will happen in the next couple years
is terrifying. He thinks it will be worse then the great depression.
The banks in the U.S. are going under one after the other. Countrywide ,Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers and Merrill Lynch , Fanny and Freddy Mae ,AIG
The government took them over because they are essentially bankrupt. Even with the goverment nationalizing hundreds of billions of dollars in debt the stock market is crashing
the credit markets are frozen and all of us may suffer beyond anything in the last 80 years.
McCain just like Bush " doesn't understand the economy".
That not just my opinion its his own words. Not only does he not understand how to fix it but he does not understand exactly what is broken.
It is no surprise that he doesn't. The people that make up these securities use complex mathematical models very few people understand.
Bush and McCain both can take the credit for this mess since they helped deregulate the laws that were protecting us.
Bush's economic advisor Phil Graham wrote the deregulation bill that allowed banks to take huge risks with all of our future.
Now, Phil Graham is the head of McCain's economic policy. He is also McCain's choice for the next secretary of the treasury.
No one in this country can afford for that to happen. The last time Bush met with his economic advisors was in March. He didnt realize that anything was wrong. Phil Graham had the guts to say that we are in a mental recession after he helped create the worst economy meltdown in our lifetime. It will take the best and brightest minds in the world to get us out of this nightmare. As bad as Bush has done, McCain would be
even more destructive because things are in much worse shape. The next president will not inherit a surplus like Bush did but a crashing economy and a 11,600,000,000,000 (trillion) dollars deficit. Most of it Bush created and it will take decades to pay it back.
If you do what you have always done then you will get what you have always got.
When it comes to policy Bush and McCain are the same 90 percent of the time.
So why are the polls even close then ?
Mccains team just said they no longer want to talk about the economy.Instead they would like to spend time talking about obama
which means running the biggest smear campaign in history.
They think they can just tell you lies and you wont be smart enough to see through it
Let's teach him we are smarter than that .

there is nothing as terrifying as ignorance in action and you are living proof
It is really a shame that you opened your mouth and removed all doubt concerning your ignorance. Best to remain silent and let others THINK you are STUPID, than to open your mouth and remove ALL DOUBT!

Some women are smart enough to know that we don't have to fight other women for power, there is enough to go around, each of us should be secure in our knowledge of ourselves and what we can do for the world. I did not f eel that with Sarah Palin. Instead I felt she was a women who was in this race for herself and not for the Good of the of Country. She was backstabbing, greedy and totally superfical. When all the truth comes forward about her and it will, she won't symbolize what a true femanist or humanist is.
who did she sta in the back and how was she greedy
McCain picking Palin just showed what a tired old out-of-it guy he is-He just picked her because he thought she 'looked good', he's not the first guy to get burned bad on a female that way. But, what is surprising, is that a presidential candidate would screw up that bad with a VP choice.
ok genius who would ypu have picked
Palin, I thought, was the death of John McCain, as far as becoming President. No experience, no savy and needed to take care of being the First Lady of Alaska and shooting elk.
sarah palin need to stay a soccer mom, also she was not ready to become vice president , she not that smart, yes pretty, but not that smart
Very simple as far as experienced against ready to become a vice president. Just imagine a heartbeat away? I think the people like her but not ready to gamble the future of this country in her hands. Secondly, this is the best experienced in her pollitical career that she can review and avoid what is necessary in the next run; whatever the position she is planing with. She had the potential but again not ready yet.
Go Palin, you rock girl!!!
I hope that McCain wins, BOTTOM LINE!!!
