McCain may have graduated at the bottom of his class, but at least he served his country. Obama may have been the head of the Harvard Law Review but he obviously doesn't understand the spirit of the US Constitution. Michelle Obama might have also graduated from Harvard, but she also insulted me as a white American on numerous occasions. You may find Obama to be "charismatic" but I find it chilling, like he is a cult leader or the Manchurian Candidate. McCain does far better speaking to and relating to normal Americans one on one which is why Obama never wanted to take part in a town hall forum. I also tend to prefer any Republican to any Democrat with their irresponsible, unconstitutional, unfair, and socialistic policies. Is "Joe the plumber" a racist because he's not voting for Obama, or is he just someone capable of doing the math and thinking for himself?

Oh and McCain's politics are 90% in agreement with George W. Bush. Not really much to think about.

Obama graduated from Columbia (political science) and Harvard at the top of his class! Was a law professor at U of C for 10 years, where he taught Constitutional law (all relevant to the presidency).

I had to respond to the dozen or so posts about abortion posted from last week. I gave it a few days or so since it seemed heated with people bashing each other.

I dont believe in abortion. Hmmm....what does that mean? It means that if I were to face a unplanned pregnacy I would CHOOSE

    THE AFFIRMATIVE ACTION CANDIDATE!

NEVER IN THE HISTORY OF THIS COUNTRY HAS A PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE BEEN GIVEN SUCH A FREE PASS BY THE PRESS AND JUST ABOUT EVERYONE ELSE!

I AM WAITING FOR A BLACK PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE TO MAKE IT ON HIS OWN MERIT.

    COLIN POWELL COMES TO MIND!

Obama graduated from Columbia (political science) and Harvard at the top of his class- no Affirmative action needed! Was a law professor at U of C for 10 years, where he taught Constitutional law (all relevant to the presidency). Was in the Illinois senate for a number of years before the US senate. McCain graduated at the bottom of his class. Palin is a self proclaimed "pit bull" and "joe 6-pack". Got a bachelor's in communication from 6 different schools. Was govenor of Alaska for less than 2 years. Was mayor and needed a manager to run the city. Who are the affirmative action candidates?

  • Posted By: Anacaona @ 10/11/2008 9:13:03 PM

Sorry, it was 14 not 18.

  • Posted By: Anacaona @ 10/11/2008 9:00:30 PM

This subject reminds me of the classic movie WILD IN THE STREETS. Does anyone remember? Young rock star decided to run for president? The movie was intended as a warning to the country of what would happen if the voting age was lowered to 18. I got a kick at the ending when the 5 year olds started challenging the voting age. And here I thought only in a movie like this could the likes of Palin ever run for office.

    I await your reply.

  • Posted By: quasqueton @ 10/11/2008 2:21:44 PM

Yes, RO in Reno - how does one do that in the insanity that is everywhere in America? I live in small town Iowa - the schools are good and not much crime. I am a white male, 54 years of age, and call me a racist, which if fine, but I am not - but, I will not go East Waterloo, or Southeast Cedar Rapids, or Central Des Moines, because that is where the blacks and Mexicans live, after dark. Sorry, that's just the way it is. My girlfriend lives in East Des Moines, which is not much better - has quite a reputatation, and, although, she can handle herself, she is also a little hesitant to go out after dark. Is this racist, or just the way it is???

  • Posted By: quasqueton @ 10/11/2008 2:08:19 PM

Well, the main reason is the public school system. Yes, Ayers is a college professor in Chicago. Tells one something about Obama's "future for education".

  • Posted By: RO in Reno @ 10/11/2008 1:36:26 PM

Now if you could just keep these kids from being corrupted by the insanity that permeates our society.

  • Posted By: DUMPLIN @ 10/10/2008 5:43:59 PM

WHO WOULD YOU RATHER HAVE IN YOUR CHILD'S CLASSROOM, SARAH PALING OR WILLIAM AYERS?

    • Posted By: RO in Reno @ 10/11/2008 1:20:52 PM

It would be most likely to be Ayers since he is a college professor, Sarah Palin could not get a job teaching she is not qualified.

  • Posted By: LawStudent2010 @ 10/10/2008 1:46:45 PM

Rather than worrying about what kids should be learning (or not learning), maybe you should do a little learning yourself. First of all, "they're" means "they are" - you meant to say "THEIR parents and school teachers . . ." Furthermore, children have "minds," not a single mind. You should also check the spelling of "politics" and "informed" before you criticize the knowledge or awareness of other people. But the biggest problem with your comment is that you apparently attended a school which did not teach social studies or civics - the right to have open discussions about government, and the right to vote are both Constitutionally guaranteed and fundamental to the progress and success of our nation. The Constitution - the cornerstone document of our democracy - also outlines the structure of American government. Kids need to learn about such topics early in life so they can be involved, informed citizens as adults. What could be more important to learn in school? You seem to have bought into the Washington rhetoric that the word "politics" refers to corruption, trickery, and scandal. Again, basic education teaches us that politics is ideally about "the people" (Greek root "poli") - as in "We the People." If we let politicians discourage us from political involvement by defaming politics, we are no longer a functional democracy, but a nation under the rule of the elite.

I just fell in love. Seriously, this is perhaps the best and most properly stated comment I've read on this entire board.

It's unfortunate to hear that so many people still feel that children should be shielded from "adult issues" such as politics. So untrue. Little sponges, children are, and regardless of whether or not you take the time to have a conversation with your little ones about this election or any other is up to you. Rest assured that they are picking up bits of information everywhere, it is unavoidable. Make it a dinnertime topic, help their minds expand and flourish in their curiosity - you will probably learn something about your kids! Take advantage of these times to help educate your children (not just a job for teachers) so they can learn from the mistakes we make and pave the way for better lives! Isnt that what this is supposed to be about?

So true - I guess people have forgotten the old saw about little pitchers have big ears.

I had the good fortune to grow up in a family where we were treated as if we had fully functioning minds from the start.

Obama said himself the first thing that he will do as president is sign the "Freedom of choice act" which removes ALL restrictions on abortion. You think the world is in turmoil now? Allow this to happen and you will see unimaginable destruction.

    • Posted By: mcgreen @ 10/10/2008 10:07:11 PM

why do you spread lies? Obama wants to work very hard to reduce abortion, he has gathered support from many pro-life candidates for his views in this area.

When people deliberately spread false hoods one has to wonder if their motivation is some other hatred that is unacceptable.

  • Posted By: freespeak @ 10/10/2008 12:46:28 PM

Linda's views lack good judgement. In a video she is enthusiastically showing very young children how to use condoms with Magic Johnson. I consider her views more aligned with NAMBLA rather than the views of most parents. Children are not miniature adults.

    • Posted By: mcgreen @ 10/10/2008 10:04:02 PM

ew, another revolting right wing nut job spreading lies. you guys are SICK.

  • Posted By: JoanR @ 10/10/2008 12:45:22 PM

Kids may not be able to vote but they can certainly be made to march and sing in homage to Obama as we see more and more. And just when the last members of the Hitlerjugend are dying off

    • Posted By: mcgreen @ 10/10/2008 10:02:42 PM

Middle america is MODERATE and is turned off by your hate talk.

The language out of McCain and Palin might be stirring up rage in the far right but we independents are turning away in disgust. The McCain of 2000 is only a memory now.

      Oh, so true!!!

  • Posted By: cowen123456 @ 10/10/2008 11:48:14 AM

I am suggested a TV black out during the half billion 30 min air time purchased by Obama on 10/29. No politican should be allowed to play celebrity by dropping half billion dollar to be on all networks to sell a lemon platform to the american public. Not while the nation and the world is suffering from a massive financial crisis! Let's all turn on cartoons during the obama TV buys on the 29th and send a message that washington is corrupt.

Only corruption can drop half a billion dollar in ad buys during the worst financial crisis we have ever faced!

Join me...take this country back! shut off the obama half billion dollar ad buy on october 29th. send a message that this sort of money for political ambition in time of national crisis will not be tolerated!

    • Posted By: mcgreen @ 10/10/2008 9:59:25 PM

wow - republicans fight for corporations and lobbyists that have money to be guaranteed first amendment rights but when we the little people donate in huge numbers to Obama's you're complaining it's unfair? then donate to your own flipping candidate or listen to us discuss the meaning of put your money where your mouth is.

    • Posted By: kaylam55 @ 10/10/2008 3:02:46 PM

Ignorant, Ignorant, Ignorant. Unless you have a receipt of this supposed half a billion commercial then you really should stfu. I think it's great. Playing celebrity? bahaha yeah righttt. McCain has how many houses? oh wait he doesn't remember riiighhhtt. haha you're lacking some brain cells for sure =]

A true christian would follow Christ who led by example and did not force his way upon others. In countries where abortion is illegal they have a higher rate of abortion and Maternal/Infant mortality. Their emergencies rooms are flooded with teens and women who attempted to conduct abortion on their own or in some back alley by a crack pot doctor. Yes abortion is immoral but not having the option is worse. We need better education and availability of contraceptives not abstinence only programs. Making abortion illegal will only make it more dangerous as history and the current crisis in other countries proves.

    • Posted By: Shano @ 10/10/2008 7:42:16 PM

When did Christ tell us to NOT stick up for human rights? Not judge ok but, stand up for what's right. Shameful how the liberals have ruined the democratic party and turned them into socialist freaks. ROE vs. WADE say's 3 months not full term. Why should we care so much about the womans life when she could care less about killing a full term baby? And Clinton was the worst, immoral President please the only thing he was good at was fooling the left side. He was guilty of so many illegal things and moved money to make himself look profitabale when instead we had a 5.8 trillion debt when he left. He is so good at playing American people though, no wonder obama is so successful. Another candidate with no experience for the left.

Comment: That 13 year old was to articulate to be 13. Check the time it was posted, it's during school hours.

It is during school hours, you're right. But... in the Seattle School District, today is a professional development day. Look it up here: http://www.seattleschools.org/area/m_calendar/dates0809.xml if you want. I got to Eckstein Middle School and I'm in 8th grade there. As for those calling me an adult, I suppose I'll take that as a compliment...? As for all the people posting here, arguing about everything from abortion to the economy, that's not what this discussion should be about. Go talk about those issues somewhere else. But, seeing as I can't resist, I suppose I'll inject myself into the conversation. Sarah Palin has about as much foreign policy experience as I do. There. I said it. This...stupid lie that being close to Russia makes her more likely to do well in foreign policy. That's like saying, because she can see the moon from her house, she should run NASA (saw that one on a bumper sticker :) ) She is just...not ready to be president of the largest industrial nation in the world if John McCain croaks. She did a good job putting on a disguise for the public last Thursday, but lemme tell ya, Halloween isn't for another 3 weeks.

Another issue: she was blasting Obama for being a Community Organizer 20 odd years ago. Guess what she was doing at that time? Coming in 2nd place in Miss Alaska. Which qualifies you more to be president? Helping recently laid-off steel mill workers, or looking good in a swimsuit? You make the call.

    • Posted By: Shano @ 10/10/2008 7:35:22 PM

I dont think working with terrorist's is really considered foreign policy and also his community organizing experience was nothing but the same. Maybe turn off CNN and do some research.

  • Posted By: DUMPLIN @ 10/10/2008 5:43:07 PM

HER EXACT WORDS WERE "I'M PROBABLY NOT GOING TO ANSWER THE QUESTIONS THE WAY YOU WANT ME TO, I PREFER TO TALK DIRECTLY TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE". IT WASN'T THE SAME OLD HATE BUSH RHETORIC BIDEN KEPT REHASHING.

    • Posted By: Shano @ 10/10/2008 7:29:50 PM

^5 but you see the anti American/liberals dont hear things right, just the slanted way their taught ! Least she knows how many states we have and dosent talk about coffee houses that have been gone for 19 years. LOL

  • Posted By: jamiereindeer @ 10/10/2008 6:36:34 PM

I am a survivor of a brutal, child-abusive Republican family, racist Republican teachers and living in a Republican state so I had a front row seat to observe the anti-Americanism, the bigotry, and the racism of the Republican Party. My long experience in that Republican hell makes me wary of Sara Palin. Is she fit to be a mother? Are Republicans fit to be parents? In my 57 years, I have not met any Republicans who are. Didn't she compare herself to a pitbull? That is the warning label there. She is too white supremacist in her thinking. I am white, but she is one of what I call 'scary white people"....ignorance+arrogance+aggressiveness = dangerous.

  • Posted By: Shano @ 10/10/2008 7:25:24 PM

Saying a republican means racist or hatred is not only a racist remark but, then you go and slam a Woman for her beliefs, show's your just ignorant, has nothing to do with your political party. The Republicans are the one's fighting for human rights and to keep God a respected decision in our Country so, I am not sure you really grew up in a "republican" house or if you as a Kid just missed the meaning. Showing further ignorance is your pit bull comment, these dog's can be wonderful, loyal companions something you obviousely have not learned about. Liberals think it's ok to corrupt wall street and hang out with unrepentent terrorist's, and who's the child abuser? I'd say someone who thinks a baby is a punishment or a choice and someone who would think a baby does not deserve medical rights. Soul searching would do you some good!
