Sorry, when I read Sarah Palin is being idolized in the same character, intelligence, awareness and political understanding as women who have been in politics for nearly a lifetime? Specifically one in particular named Hillary Clinton? I laugh.

Back on the subject at hand... I have to agree with bay on this. Palin's views are far too extreme for the coasts to absorb. I do believe it is insulting to say her views are "not well thought out" when they just do not agree with your own.
As far as Hillary goes, I would agree it was unfair at times for her as well. I personally cannot stand her politics, but she does deserve some respect for her service, as ill-advised in my opinion as it is.
Either Obama, or McCain will win this, but I would not trade places with either. One of them will be dragging close to 50% of the country kicking and screaming with thm for four years.

Whether McCain won or lost is not relevant. He succeeded in the first half hour to plant the seeds of a Reagan style wipeout. Reputable historians and economists overwhelmingly agree that the taxation imposed by and the "stimulus" spending and public works programs of FDR actually deepened and prolonged the Great Depression. See e.g. http://newsroom.ucla.edu/portal/ucla/FDR-s-Policies-Prolonged-Depression-5409.aspx. It was the production demands of WWII that got the economy going again. And when the war was over, the economy promptly went into recession.

Point is, Obama's programs are tax and spend, and it does not really matter who he taxes, those taxes are going to be passed through the economy. Any first year economics student knows that taxation is a tool used to contract an economy experiencing inflation, because it reduces demand by reducing the amount of money individuals and businesses have to spend. It is contractionary, which is exactly what you do not want to do when the problem is that the economy is contracting already into recession. Like FDR, Obama's plans will only make it worse for longer.

Similarly, who "Joe the plumber" is is not the issue. The issue is what Obama's comments to him revealed. In the exchange with "Joe the plumber" we find out that Obama really is as radical as his early political acquaintances, and that he is into the failed economic policy of wealth redistribution. Obama's tax and spending plans alone would be bad enough, but add Reid and Pelosi to the mix, with the three of them controlling both houses of Congress and the executive without and effective restraint, and you have something that should be something that causes concern even among moderate Democrats. Don't think so? Watch and listen to a C-SPAN video clip of the Congressional hearings at roughly the time McCain's attempt at S.190. to fix fannie and freddie.

Jim Johnson, no matter how many times people tell you that Obama is against socialism, you keep posting these blogs that accuse Obama of socialism and communism. It is not true and you know it. You are just trying to smear Obama and make people afraid.

In his book Audacity of Hope, Obama writes at length about the FAILURE of SOCIALISM and the failure of communism. He enthusiastically states that American democracy is the greatest political system on earth. Obama is not a socialist, and he does not admire socialism.

To you, Jim, and to all of the conservatives out there who think that Obama is a flaming liberal, I would like to remind you of what he did when he was elected President of the Harvard Law Review. The Law Review President gets to name ten individuals to write articles for the Review, and these ten people also get to control the content of the publication. All of the minorities and the liberals thought they finally had it made, that Obama would appoint ten left wing editors. Instead, Obama appointed three conservatives, three liberals and four moderates. That year the Law Review was critically acclaimed as the best run and best written Harvard publication in decades.

So when he wins in November, conservatives don't have to freak out. Obama is a centrist and will appoint a balanced cabinet full of active people who will really get things done. Kind of like the way our multi-cultural society is supposed to be. And exactly what we need in this time of economic crisis.

Baby I'll be there to take your hand,
Baby I'll be there to share the land
That they'll be giving away, when we all live together.

So, in the exchange with "Joe the plumber" we find out that Obama really is as radical as his early political acquaintances, and is into the failed economic policy of wealth redistribution. Yahoo, back to the 70's we go! So now we know that an Obama presidency really would be as if it were Carter's lost second term after all.

Obama's view of the future of America - Socialism which is the next step to Communism!!

Under socialism a ruling class of intellectuals, bureaucrats and social planners decide what people want or what is good for society and then use the coercive power of the State to regulate, tax, and redistribute the wealth of those who work for a living. In other words, socialism is a form of legalized theft.

The morality of socialism can be summed-up in two words: envy and self-sacrifice. Envy is the desire to not only possess another's wealth but also the desire to see another's wealth lowered to the level of one's own. Socialism's teaching on self-sacrifice was nicely summarized by two of its greatest defenders, Hermann Goering and Bennito Mussolini. The highest principle of Nazism (National Socialism), said Goering, is: "Common good comes before private good." Fascism, said
Mussolini, is "a life in which the individual, through the sacrifice of his own private interests??realizes that completely spiritual existence in which his value as a man lies."

Socialism is the social system which institutionalizes envy and self-sacrifice: It is the social system which uses compulsion and the organized violence of the State to expropriate wealth from the producer class for its redistribution to the parasitical class.

Despite the intellectuals' psychotic hatred of capitalism, it is the only moral and just social system.

Capitalism is the only moral system because it requires human beings to deal with one another as traders--that is, as free moral agents trading and selling goods and services on the basis of mutual consent.

Capitalism is the only just system because the sole criterion that determines the value of thing exchanged is the free, voluntary, universal judgement of the consumer. Coercion and fraud are anathema to the free-market system.

It is both moral and just because the degree to which man rises or falls in society is determined by the degree to which he uses his mind. Capitalism is the only social system that rewards merit, ability and achievement, regardless of one's birth or station in life.

    Yes, there are winners and losers in capitalism. The winners are those who are honest, industrious, thoughtful, prudent, frugal, responsible, disciplined, and efficient. The losers are those who are shiftless, lazy, imprudent, extravagant, negligent, impractical, and inefficient. [What about the role of luckbeing in the right place at the right time or the wrong place at the wrong time? R. R. Pope}

Capitalism is the only social system that rewards virtue and punishes vice. This applies to both the business executive and the carpenter, the lawyer and the factory worker.

    "Press Releases

AJC Strongly Condemns Rev. Jesse Jackson's Comment on American Jews
October 14, 2008 - New York - The American Jewish Committee (AJC) has condemned the Rev. Jesse Jackson's statement about 'Zionists who have controlled American policy for decades.'
"Rev. Jackson's remarks, which appeared in an interview with the journalist Amir Taheri in today's New York Post, echo classic anti-Semitic conspiracy theories about Jewish power," said AJC Executive Director David A. Harris. 'This statement, regrettably, is not the first troubling comment by Rev. Jackson regarding Israel, Zionism and the Jewish people.'

Arguing as a private citizen that an Obama administration could bring significant change to U.S. foreign policy, Jackson was quoted as saying that "Zionists who have controlled American policy for decades" would lose much of their influence should Senator Obama be elected president."

And people are upset about raciest comments some in the crowd are allegedly saying at Palin events? Isn't this the same Democrat leader who once called New York "Hymietown"?

OK, I'm a guy but let me say that I am waiting for the day when we pay NO attention to whether or not a candidate is a woman or a man. But this also includes how they're treated. I heard a lot about how Biden had to be careful in his debate with Palin. Why? Would Putin "be careful" in governemtn to government conversations with Palin? If a woman wants to play in the big boys league, she has to take and respond to whatever happens. AND the men she is dealing with ought to treat her just like they treat any other opponent.

Is Palin a feminist? Palin is to the right of the Pope. Seriously, the Pope recently said there does not need to be a conflict between the science of evolution and belief in God. But Palin believes the Bible literally. Even the Pope cannot read Genesis literally anymore.

    • Posted By: Servant 43 @ 10/11/2008 2:05:23 PM

You can not speak for the Pope. You do not even understand the difference between Genesis and evolutionism. Genesis states that everything in the beginning (except evil) was created by God and it was Good. Evolutionism states that we came from nothingness - life where there was no life - without God's assistance. This is founded on Darwin???s belief in Macroevolution which would denote that right now female cows should be giving birth to camels and female dogs should be giving birth to rats. This has never happened in recorded history or in the fossil records. So without proof positive in evolution and since the fossil record does in fact support the great flood, Jesus Christ, and Genesis of the Bible your arguments are unsupported and proved biased away from the typical beliefs of the Pope.

What the Pope probably said is that microevolution can exist. This is where a dog will give birth to a different type of dog, but always a dog. So the literal interpretation of the Genesis record stands unchanged. God allows for uniqueness in His creations. That is how we have so many varieties of humans, tall and short, big and small, and so many different colors. Love for each other and Love for our God is one of things that separates us from the plants and animals. The truth is that God is Love and we can only have Love in our hearts when we feel God???s Love on us. How many of us feel fear and anger right now? The Love is removed because God is removed from us. For anyone who does not want God???s Love, I (as does the Genesis Book) promise your choice will be granted and you will be removed from His Eternal Love forever.

Gov Palin is allowed to have her beliefs in her religion as allowed by the Constitution of our great country. Anyone against this belief in our freedoms would probably prefer a Human Monarchy system of government. Maybe they should try visiting one of these types of governments like Iran, North Korea, Cuba, North Vietnam, etc. You might find the trip enlightening.

May God Bless you with the truth.

      • Posted By: panda69 @ 10/14/2008 11:00:39 PM

I don't mean to offend anybody, but I do want the Christian Right to understand this point -- within Christianity, there exists a spectrum of how literally or metaphorically different Christians interpret the Bible. For example, Roman Catholic schools can teach what you call macroevolution as the origin of species physically, as long as the Church also teaches God created the soul spiritually -

        http://www.religioustolerance.org/ev_school.htm

Of course, anyone can disagree with the Pope, I only mention the Pope as a point of reference. A literal interpretation of Genesis puts a person to the right of the Pope. I don't mean this as an insult, I just don't see Palin as a feminist to the right of the Pope.

  • Posted By: missgrundy @ 10/14/2008 8:32:32 PM

All Sarah Palin is Dubya with lipstick. If this is the GOP's idea of a feminist then they are way too stupid to be alive. She is stupid and she makes conservatives look like a bunch of racist fools.

  • Posted By: chris s. @ 10/14/2008 1:03:02 PM

Do you think, maybe, Sarah is actually working for the democrats? She sure isn;t helping McCain. In fact , isn't she a drag on the ticket? He could have done so much better with a different running mate.

  • Posted By: CaseyMcGrady @ 10/14/2008 7:42:15 AM

I don't get this. Sarah Palin smart? Hardly. She's obviously an expedient politician, and an adept liar. The more I see and hear of her, the more the "Yuck" factor goes up. I would hope for more from the first female in the White House.

I don't always agree with Hilary Clinton's politics, but she has never struck me as unintelligent. Ambitious and driven, perhaps. Stupid, never.

Given the fact that Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton both came from very very very tiny state called Arkansas, its amazing that the press trashed someone who governed another state (one of the largest territory wise) simply because Governor Palin was not one of the belt way "boys". The press gave a pass to Biden, when he says he knows the people of American since he goes to a restaurant that closed 20 years ago.

    • Posted By: Braes @ 10/13/2008 1:26:14 PM

Mr. Carter was not from Arkansas, but Plains Georgia. Most of the South is beautiful, tolerant, and far more progressive than many could understand. We still pay for the great sins of our past, and often in unfair ways.
Arkansas is a small state, that balances it's budget, provides good services, has a great State Police, a good University system, and awesome business environment. Wal Mart (with whom I do have issues) Tyson Foods, Kimberly Clark, and other big corporations have operations here. We produce excellent Agriculture, with Cotton and Rice still big players. We have a large state park system, and a good environmental record. All of this has occured with a largely Democratic State Government, and Democratic electorate. In Arkansas, you can be a Conservative, and Democrat. The debate is a lot more civil here.

Please. Women have used their appearance since the dawn of time to get ahead and gain power. But we live in a new era, thanks to remarkable and smart women, and Sarah Palin is neither. In fact, she is downright dangerous and John McCain should be losing sleep over the position he has put our country in by choosing HER as his V.P. running mate.. She's not auditioning for a part in a movie-she's now in a position where she could potentially be the most powerful person in the world. It was the most cynical and irresponsible vice presidential choices in American history. I'm not a Republican, but every accomplished and seasoned female Republican politician in our country should be as outraged as I am. And I disagree with Myers-this women is NOT smart or savvy-she is a whackjob who has polarized not just the country but her own party with her clear ignorance of domestic and foreign policy issues and her willingness to bring out the ugliest aspects of American politics with her stupid and, again, dangerous stump speeches where she attacks Obama's character and incites violence and hatred against him among her supporters. She's an insult to all intelligent women who care about our country. You don't wink, hairspray, and "You Betcha" your way to the Oval Office. And if something terrible happens to Obama because of McCain and Palin's desperate hatemongering during this campaign WHEN he becomes President on November 4, they should both be held legally responsible.

    • Posted By: Braes @ 10/13/2008 1:01:21 PM

I wonder why the Secret Service has not stepped up protection of Obama, and begun arresting the people who are communicating threats against him. It is against the law.
I have seen partisanship determine who gets disaster relief, I have seen partisanship determine who gets prosecuted, and now I am seeing partisanship calling for outright killing. How long will the Attorney General sit silent? I can hardly believe that this kind of thing can be allowed. Freedom of Speech has never extended to unlawful activity, or public danger. (Fire in a crowded theater)
What do we mean by:"Indivisible, with liberty and justice for all?"

No birth control, no form of gun control whatsoever to include semi-automatic weapons, no recognition of geological science and man's contribution to global warming, forcing her daughter's teenaged boyfriend to marry her, firing her town's police chief because he wanted a ban on semi-automatic weapons, no education/expertise regarding the Middle East, no ability to speak about energy, the economy, education or health care without prepared material written for her, promoting Obama as a terrorist and a hater of America, dividing the country with hatred and lies (McCain pointed this out himself) while promoting herself as a born-again Christian -- these are but a few of the reasons Palin should be nowhere near our the Presiden't office.

    • Posted By: Braes @ 10/13/2008 12:34:18 PM

As a southern Democrat, I do not support any infringement on semi-automatic weapons ownership. Now, if you want to put more police on the street and fund it with targeted taxation, put a $3 tax/bullet on .380, 9mm, .40S&W, and other rounds commonly used in crime.
As for disarming a law abiding populace, you will drive nearly all of the electoral map red in a second. You will certainly end any hope for the Democratic party for another Generation. The NRA drove Reagan into office. The NRA has used gun control to overcome far more pressing issues, and elect candidates that did not govern well. Guns are not the problem. People who do not want them can make that choice in a free society.

HolyRoller, JoseMarti and similar posters: Do me, yourself and the GOP Party a favor: Put just half the effort that you put into bashing Obama and the Democrats into praising the real values of the Republican Party and it's ticket if you want to get McCain elected. All of this peurile and acrimonious name calling, smearing and outright antagonization is not helping our cause, makes the conservative base look childish, unintelligent, frightened and self serving. It turns off Independent voters and so basically serves the Dem's interests.

    • Posted By: Braes @ 10/13/2008 12:24:02 PM

You remind me of the Republicans I knew in the 1970's. They were decent people. The Big-Tent operation changed all of that in favor of the 51% win, and pushed Ideas and Ideals out of the shop.
The Republicans in my family have become so much like the people you mention that I do not even take their calls anymore. I am tired of being called racist names, or a communist, because I do not support the Bush family, or Mr. McCain.

    1) What about her close friendship with Joe Vogler, leader of the Alaskan Independence Party...and the conventions that she attended...
    2) When she was elected Mayor of Wasilla she tried to replace herself with a man named Steve Stoll, a member of the John Birch Society...

I love it when Dems make comments about lack of patriotism. I mean, Michelle Obama hates this country. Is that not patriotic? Why didn't BHO condemn her comments? Why does his spiritual mentor hate the USA?

Oh wait, it's bad political strategy...my bad.

I don't feel the need to defend Palin.

I also would not care if BHO simply served on a board with Ayers. But unless you're denying the facts, his relationship with Ayers goes WAAAY beyond one board.

BTW, the AIP brings up another issue, one of state's rights. One that the Fed Govt holds up only when they want to not make a decision.

BTW pt2, when did AIP ever bomb this country? Riiight.

Only a Dem would justify terrorist acts on this country. Even tacitly.

When did she say she hates the country? I must have missed that. I did hear her say she hadn't been proud of this country. I think this country has been addicted to the seven deadly sins for quite a while now. Should we be proud of that? Or should we try to change? Is this country perfect? I don't think so. I know I'm not. I'm always trying to grow. I certainly haven't always been proud of myself! That's called honest reflection. I like it.

Those comments were taken out of context and I honestly can't believe you're regurgitating them. I'm a white woman that has had a pretty easy life, and I can't say that I'm truly proud of my country. This country has major problems and anyone that can't see that is in denial. I love my country and think it has the potential for great things, but there are many times when I'm not proud of it. Greed has replaced truth and morals.
