After watching the McCain/Palin rallies I fear history may be repeated. Next they will burn the Reichstag and blame the opposition.

    .
FROM CONSERVATIVE COLUMIST: "McCAIN'S ATTACKS FUEL DANGEROUS HATRED"

    By Frank Schaeffer
    October 10, 2008

    To John McCain:
If your campaign does not stop equating Sen. Barack Obama with terrorism, questioning his patriotism and portraying Mr. Obama as "not one of us," I accuse you of deliberately feeding the most unhinged elements of our society the red meat of hate, and therefore of potentially instigating violence.

At a Sarah Palin rally, someone called out, "Kill him!" At one of your rallies, someone called out, "Terrorist!" Neither was answered or denounced by you or your running mate, as the crowd laughed and cheered. At your campaign event Wednesday in Bethlehem, Pa., the crowd was seething with hatred for the Democratic nominee - an attitude encouraged in speeches there by you, your running mate, your wife and the local Republican chairman.

    Shame!

John McCain: In 2000, as a lifelong Republican, I worked to get you elected instead of George W. Bush. In return, you wrote an endorsement of one of my books about military service. You seemed to be a man who put principle ahead of mere political gain.

You have changed. You have a choice: Go down in history as a decent senator and an honorable military man with many successes, or go down in history as the latest abettor of right-wing extremist hate.

John McCain, you are no fool, and you understand the depths of hatred that surround the issue of race in this country. You also know that, post-9/11, to call someone a friend of a terrorist is a very serious matter. You also know we are a bitterly divided country on many other issues. You know that, sadly, in America, violence is always just a moment away. You know that there are plenty of crazy people out there.

Stop! Think! Your rallies are beginning to look, sound, feel and smell like lynch mobs.

John McCain, you're walking a perilous line. If you do not stand up for all that is good in America and declare that Senator Obama is a patriot, fit for office, and denounce your hate-filled supporters when they scream out "Terrorist" or "Kill him," history will hold you responsible for all that follows.

John McCain and Sarah Palin, you are playing with fire, and you know it. You are unleashing the monster of American hatred and prejudice, to the peril of all of us. You are doing this in wartime. You are doing this as our economy collapses. You are doing this in a country with a history of assassinations.

Change the atmosphere of your campaign. Talk about the issues at hand. Make your case. But stop stirring up the lunatic fringe of haters, or risk suffering the judgment of history and the loathing of the American people - forever.

    We will hold you responsible.

Thank you for addressing this serious matter. Well written, Sir.

      • Posted By: CreoleWarrior @ 10/11/2008 3:17:11 AM

To you Sir I applaud. Your words of wise condemnation should not go unheeded by the McCain/Palin or we as a country will fall into utter disgrace in the eyes of the World and to a the blackest of pits from which we will not/can not climb up and out of. I would caution that He (McCain,) looks as you so eloquently stated back at his own life and the dignity and honor with which he suffered for his service to this great country. I too once respected the Republican ideology and more so a man that worn the cloth of a military man and suffered horrible by the hands of an enemy who had no respect for the man or the soldier. I served in the United States Army and am about to return to that service, However, I am no longer a Republican and it pains me to see our great country being dragged down. I no longer respect the man who has become much like Nero and Caligula, crazed and malignant tumors on the once Great Roman Empire. He and Palin both need to look back at history and see how many great nations crumbled from the sowing of seeds of greed and hatred, ignite discontent through dangerous rhetoric. Senator John S. McCain I implore of you to remember with which dignity you were raised and to honor the nation you served and the men and women who daily go into harms way. Stop this madness, this hate. You say you are a patriot, yet you move in the realm or rebellion which will rip at the very fabric of who we as a Nation are.
        SP, California.

It's amazing that reasonable questions about a man's character and judgment are "attacks."

Of course, if John McCain were even remotely associated with a abortion clinic bomber, the democrats would have a field day with it.

The left's hypocrisy knows no bounds.

            TO PALLISOR:
            - - - - -
            Stop playing stupid.

Your 'Karl Rovian' attempt to misrepresent conservative columnist Frank Schaeffer and his call for civility will not work.

First you falsely insinuate that "Democrats" are trying to blunt legitimate GOP right to question the judgment of Senator Obama. If this is McCain's strategy then it is his right to do so. But you are clearly wrong on two related counts:

            * * * * * (1.) Frank Schaeffer is a lifelong republican conservative and he like so many other GOP conservatives is the driving force behind this call to John McCain to cut the cr@p! The person you replied to "CREOLEWARRIOR" also stated he had Republican leaning ideological views. So you are wrong in your comments when you blame 'Democrats' for McCain???s latest tongue lashing. From Conservative Journalist George Wills to hardened Right-wing Conservative Christopher Buckley, the list is growing long of Republicans growing frustrated, sick and tired of McCain's antics.

            * * * * * (2.) Nobody is trying to blunt McCain's right to question Senator Obama???s judgment. What Frank Schaeffer and other "righteous conservatives" on this commentary are saying is that McCain and Palin have clearly crossed the lines of honor & decency as they blatantly stoke "lynch mob crowds screaming violent acts against" Senator Obama such as "kill him" and "he is Arab and off with his head". THIS IS WRONG, UN-AMERICAN, and EVIL!!

As Frank Schaeffer stated, GOD forbid if a nut job cause violent harm to Senator Obama and/or his Secret Service protection. If this happens then it will be on McCain's head and his responsibility for stoking the madness emanating from the GOP lynch mob.

And finally PLLAISOR, learn to speak the truth. And read and understand MATTHEWS 7:3-5 before your next posting.

            • Posted By: Forty4 @ 10/11/2008 6:18:13 PM

How in the hell did you read all this nonsensical, screwed up, BS into Pal's post???

And then you end this mess with a quote from the bible? What are you, a Sunday school teacher? LMAO!!!

              Get a life!!!

McCain is no leader. He won't even allow anyone to see his military record. Perhaps that's because the military did NOT see him as a leader. After 23 years in the Navy, McCain was never on track for Admiral and was never given a real command. He was a lousy pilot and ditched 5 aircraft, only one of which was shot down in combat. He is a cheat. He ran around on his crippled wife as soon as he came back from Viet Nam and saw she wasn't the arm candy he had left. He was one of the infamous Keating 5, where he peddled his influence, took favors from Keating and intimidated Regulators to protect him. Keating cost the tax payers of this country 3.4 Billion dollars, with John McCain's help. John McCain is NOT what this country needs and America has finally gotten wise to his smoke and mirrors routine.

True and I'm waiting for the honorable John McCain to show up. Let's face it, the only way he got into the Naval Academy was because of his father and grandfather's legacy. Even then, by his own admission he was a very poor student. He proudly states that he was the leader of the troublemakers. Now there's an accomplishment to be proud of. I also heard him state that the reason he held on as a P.O.W. was because he didn't want to shame his father. Not a mention of his country. That was on FOX!

JOHN MCCAIN and SARAH PALIN have GLEE FULLY BEEN UNRELENTING CHEERLEADERS FOR THE HATE MONGERING, and VIOLENT HATE SPEECHES and INEPT LEADERSHIP on the electorate. THEY ARE HAPPY TO FAN THE FLAMES OF THEIR RACIST FANS CONGREGATING AT THEIR RALLIES. NEITHER OF THEM ARE FIT TO SERVE THIS NATION.

  • Posted By: mahada @ 10/11/2008 12:38:20 AM

The McCain of years past is gone and has been replaced by a crazy, bumbling old man who will forever be associated with running the dirtiest campaign in history.

    • Posted By: quechalk @ 10/11/2008 12:48:04 AM

Don't knock older presidents. Does that make you better because you're younger? Get your jollies by mugging senior citizens, maybe? Reagan was an "old" president who effectively broke the back of the Soviet Union because he had the guts to stand up to them.

      • Posted By: Nonpartay @ 10/11/2008 1:16:09 AM

Well, maybe he did that or communism just collapsed under its own weight because it's not a viable system. But I remember the Reagan years as just awful with union busting and home loan interest rates of 18%. I was never so glad as when he was replaced. I'm afraid his theories are coming home to roost these days. They aren't viable either. I say, let's get someone in office with some brains for a change!

      • Posted By: Nonpartay @ 10/11/2008 1:51:35 AM

One more thing, I'm 10 years younger than McCain, and I'm WAY to old and tired to be President. It takes too much energy, too much thinking, too much determination, too much stress, for someone that old. It needs someone younger and more healthy and energetic. 72 is past retirement age, remember? Way past.

  • Posted By: bonjor11 @ 10/11/2008 12:46:41 AM

I have to say that I am going to support McCain in the upcoming election. I believe he is more experienced and knows what needs to be done to get the war over in Iraq and if the troops need to focus on Afghanistan to stabilize that country he will do that too. Our troops need our support for a job well done...I believe in them and fully support their heroic efforts to do what they were sent to do...win this war and not leave until this is done...we should not leave in defeat because all that has been done thus far will be wasted. McCain is right, he served his country well and continues to do so. I support him 100%. He needs our votes in this time of uncertainty with the economy and he needs our prayers. I hope that every voter will think very carefully about who they are choosing for our next president because experience is going to make all the difference in this world.

McCain has not told you the stright truth about taxes and many other things. McCain is irrational with his thinking and I do believe you will be sorry if he is elected the next President.

    • Posted By: Nonpartay @ 10/11/2008 12:57:27 AM

McCain gets a D from Veteran's groups on his record for supporting them. What makes you think he'd be better than Obama, who gets a B? Frankly, when it comes to foreign policity, I want someone with a degree in Political Science and an emphasis in International Relations and who graduated at the top of his class from Harvard Law with a doctorate handling the situation. His education makes him more knowledgeable than any President going into office in many decades. McCain graduated at the near bottom of his class and then only because he had connections or they would have kicked him out. Plus, McCain may not live out his term and we'd have Sarah Palin, who just got busted for abusing her power. Good choice! Think again, please.

  • Posted By: tippology1 @ 10/11/2008 6:00:56 AM

It is just strange to me how the GOP is being investigated on every angle when it comes to Palin, and no investigation is being conducted on Barack with acron, with the ayers situation, and his long term connection with rezko. The atmosphere is 100% for democrats and I think someone or a group of organizations have been plannng this for yrs now. Its just doesn't add up how so much support for Barack have came about in just 6months. I say that because the public 6 months ago was anti- Barack and now he can lead our nation through these troubled times. I think is a huge cover up going on here and it is lead by the democratic liberal media. I have never seen a negative story wrote on Barack, I have not see any negative press on Barack, I have only seen him on the cover of Newsweek maybe a dozen times, and news reporters all over his campaign from start to finish. This to me is a mess beyond fixing and it is really say that Americans are falling for this BS. To close the general pubic has to know by now that Newsweek, and the NY Times both before Barack was center stage sales was down 86% now all of a sudden they are over 75% up. This to me has got to be a clue that someone is pulling strings and making this election happen for Barack. My heart tell me with all of these things to think about how can a man know deep down inside that he is not qualtified for a position, and accept a job, and feel good about it. That tells me that this man Barack is a pretty low and disgusting person of a man and I hope he get everything he deserves someday.

      • Posted By: Pallisor @ 10/11/2008 8:25:49 AM

Of course, you can't address the question here. It is a fact that Obama gave almost a million dollars to a front company owned by Acorn. It was found that the exact same directors sit on both boards. Cheating Acorn (The Dallas Cowboys vote early in Nevada!) owes Obama big time.

If John McCain held coffees and sat on a board with a abortion clinic bomber, you can safely bet everything you own the left and the media would be all over it.

If Obama had a pregnant teenage daughter up on the stage with him he would be toasted by the republicans. Also, if he spoke "jive" as Sarah is prone to speaking in her local folksy Alaskan [who really speaks that way?] you guys would be all over him. Instead, because he is well spoken, he is called "elitist".

Maybe you have not seen a bad story or comment on Obama because he is a pretty good guy. He works hard and dreams big. More importantly he cares about people and uses his talents and intelligence to improve AMERICAN lives. I was a Clinton Supporter and really thought that Obama should wait his turn but guess what he proved that he is ready by getting this far. I know America will be better off with Obama as president. Right now the republican party has brought us national debt, a huge finacial crisis and the loss of respect and moral standing around the World.

To me this means you have the best of both worlds. He would not be prejudiced , He will care about everyone. What a wonderful pres. he will make, you are so lucky to have someone like him. I have watched the unfair and very unbalanced news channel, They are a disgrace to humanity. I cant watch them anymore. their hatred shows, especially that Hannity object. They fought and died fighting for the combined Allied goals of defeating the Axis powers. The US didn't fight in World War II just to save England. We fought it because our national interests were threatened and under attack just as were those of the UK.

Is Cheating on Your Wife a Value that Christans hold true to? Picking a Veep that wasnt even properly vetted. What kind of judgement is that? I dont care if you are Republican, Dem, White, Black ,Red, Yellow, Green. The hate that mccain and palin are stiring up at these rallies is disgusting and samefull, we as americans should not stand for this anymore. We are in the 2!st century For god sake. I have always been an Obama supporter and like the college students interviewed after the second debate, I too noticed that only Obama even mentioned education and then only once. However, one issue I wish someone would PLEASE PLEASE talk about a plan for changing is this country's dependence on pharmaceuticals as a means of "health" care and the ever increasing power the pharmaceutical lords have over the insurance companies. It would also reassure me as a voter to hear someone differentiate between the two very separate issues of "health care" and "health insurance premiums". I agree with the person who posted earlier about the "low information voter", driven by emotion, usually fear and anger and probably, like McCain a victim of PTSD

Has anyone asked Obama if he plans to reinstate the draft?
He says he will send troops into Afghanistan, Pakistan, and even Africa, and I don't see how he can do that
    unless he institutes a draft.
Are all you young people who are voting for him willing to serve in the military for him?

    • Posted By: Califgymnast @ 10/11/2008 5:00:47 PM

Obama has been asked the question on the campaign trail, and has said no, unequivocally. McCain has been asked the same question, and typically responds, "I don't think it will be necessary." (Which, seems to me, equivocation.)

The good news about a bad economy, though, is people need jobs, and that translates into each branch of the military meeting or exceeding their recruiting quotas. In all, 185,000 people joined the active duty military, which exceeds their 12 month goals for this year, and 140,000 signed up for the reserves, the most since 2003! Moreover, because of the demand in the bad economy exceeding available slots, each branch of the military was able to be more selective and recruit higher caliber individuals, with over 90% with high school diplomas or better--the best yield in history, with virtually no waivers for health reasons or criminal convictions.

Therefore, at least for the forseeable future--since the economy is likely to stay bad for the next 2-3 years, the draft will likely not be an issue, regardless of who is elected, since demand for military slots will exceed our needs while civilian jobs remain scarce.

Please say that you are joking. There is only one candidate that who has no plans to end the war. Eventually you will need more people. It is a known fact that McCain prefers military personnel even above veterans based on his veteran voting record and that is not saying much.

Who played the financial markets to crash down for Obama's favor? THE TIMING WAS VERY CRITICAL. Right when Mccain was in the lead. How many "international " investors were involved? who is bent to make Barack Husein Obama the POTUS? fIRST THEY PLAYED THE energy crisis. WE beat them. Then they withdrew their holdings and support for our fianancial system. "AMERICA had it coming". WE entertained all these back stabbers who were more than ready to pull the money away from wall street market. All so legally. Govt had to step in to stop the short sale of uSA. YOu liberals who play with antiamerican terrorist coutries, we will let you know you also hold the other end of this stick.

So the Republicans deregulate the country, drain our treasury in needless war, form the *majority* of those people who invested in the "asset-backed securities" made of bad subprime mortgage paper, and suddenly somehow the financial crash is a giant liberal conspiracy?

The paranoia is running out of control.

Iranian terrorists and Rolling Stone journalists are not forming a secret coalition to steal your bodily fluids.

The liberal media does not have Saddam Hussein stuffed in a closet somewhere, ready to terrorize the country with his impoverished populace and lack of any kind of real weapons.

Gay marriage proponents are not secretly meeting with Frenchmen in an effort to turn your football-playing son into a lover of sodomy and baguettes, no matter WHAT Bill O' Reilly is telling you.

Really, it's safe to come outside now.

Change and hope have been Senator Obama's theme since he began his campaign. While we need both during the economic crisis we face, the unity of all Americans is crucial to our success as a Nation. I don't like the negative ads and campaign rallies I see from Senator McCain's campaign because it's divisive. I don't care what party afflication my neighbors are, if they need help I will assist them as fellow Americans. So many of my neighbor's homes have gone into foreclosure because of job loss or hours cut on a job. High gas and food prices have absorbed any extra cash for shopping in retail stores which need our business to remain open. There are people sleeping in their cars and homeless. My sister is a cancer survivor after 8 surgeries, and is struggling to make ends meet because of high healthcare costs and hospital bills. She was teacher for over 20 years. I'm a veteran, and it grieves me to see my fellow veteran's returning home without the support and resources they need to heal their bodies and minds. Small business owners struggling to make payrolls. Food banks depleted. The hurricane victims of Ike, Katrina and others still need our collective help to rebuild their lives. We can only overcome these huge obstacles as a united collective of concerned citizens and a united country. When it comes to dealing with catastrophe, we are not African-American, Arab-American, Asian, Hispanic, Native American, mixed or white America. Nor are we red and blue states. We are one Nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all. This is what we say in our Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. This is theme that Senator Obama has reminded us of who we are a great Nation. This is why I have found the negative rhetoric of Senator McCain and Governor Palin very distasteful. Their campaign rallies insite people to riot, become hostile and disrespectful. They have offered few solutions to our economic plight and care nothing for middle class citizens. The middle class is the backbone of this Nation, and we deserve better than what we've received from the Bush Administration. And while I'm pleased that Senator Obama is up in polls, even if he becomes President he will be taking over the country at the worst possible time. But who knows, perhaps he was born for such a time as this to lead us out of a mess.

This is obviously a poll of voters registered by Acorn Voters, or predominantly Democrats. Zogby, a Democrat who typically favors Democrats, has Obama leading by only 3.8%, and Rasmussen has Obama up by 5.0%.
I think you should take a look another look at your polling methods and examine Newsweek's own sinking ad revenue and circulation.

Zogby is a well known Republican pollster - for the record. Barack is up by double digits - and has turned many red states blue. Hope and confidence trumps fear and lies every time!

Since Newsweek get to design its poll and word the questions, the poll can be slanted to produce desired results.

Figures don't lie, but liars can figure!

PS: does swdemo mean that anyone who opposed Obama will be sent to re-eduction camps should Obama become president. Will he use his kiddy corps cult members as his re-ecuation thugs?

No, because the Democratic candidates refrain from playing God, unlike some of the Republicans who have been in leadership positions - especially our current president.

Your fears are unbridled, over-dramatic and out of touch with reality. Perhaps you should step into your doc's office this week and ask for a prescription medication to counter your delusional visions.

Who are you to discount others' concerns and write them off as unbridled fears? I think you smoked a little too much dope and ate too many tainted french fries while you were in France!

No, there aren't any re-education plans......free will is part of everyone's agenda. I do believe that a realignment of thinking & priorities is due. Greed and lies are not part of god's agenda....again, more man-made devices. Haven't you noticed how poorly lies have served the McCain campaign? There's a reason for it, whether you believe in god or not. Many people are rejecting the McCain campaign.....so one might question why that is.....early on in Senator Obama's campaign, Republicans accused Democrats of "drinking the Kool-aide". Well, there was no Kool-aide involved, just highly evolved people seeing the truth! My hope is that someday, the rest of the country will see the truth and not let their prejudices get in the way of clear thinking.
