    THE AFFIRMATIVE ACTION CANDIDATE!

NEVER IN THE HISTORY OF THIS COUNTRY HAS A PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE BEEN GIVEN SUCH A FREE PASS BY THE PRESS AND JUST ABOUT EVERYONE ELSE!

I AM WAITING FOR A BLACK PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE TO MAKE IT ON HIS OWN MERIT.

    COLIN POWELL COMES TO MIND!

While Todd and Jamie Ehrenreich represent the greedy, self-centered side of the Jewish faith, the majority of the Jewish faith believe enough in the egalitarian values that forged this great country that we are willing to forego the short-sighted, "I want it now" values in lieu of values that are for the greater good. Barack Obama and the Democratic party have always represented those values. Shame on the Ehrenreichs!

I believed in American exceptionalism once until Palin entered. She extols the virtues and the very essence of (in her own words) Jo Sixpack Average. What's to admire? Remember when we used to tell our children to work hard and go to Harvard? What happened to us?

    • Posted By: simonanunhappydem @ 10/12/2008 6:41:32 PM

What happened is Fox and the other media outlets that lionize mediocrity and demonize excellence and any kind of intellectual achivement. So we elected Bush, albeit he was totally incompetent, because he was supposedly good at having a beer with. Now we are asked to vote for Palin because she is mediocre at best, has no intellect, no knowledge or experience, and an "average" hockey mom. We are doomed of we fall for the bs again.

I wish that more Jewish voters knew that AIPAC has given Obama an A+ rating. So many Jews received the spam e-mails saying that Obama is a Muslim and an anti-Semite, and lots of them actually believed it, because it got into a deep central wound that Jews carry in their soul. The Jews have every right to carry this wound, and to nurse their souls back to health in a world that has seen the error of the horrible ways. But when you think that the authors of those e-mails were radical right wing Christians aligned with Jews for Jesus (who say that Israel's refusal to accept Christ as a personal savior is responsible for Isreal getting bombed), you start to see just how horribly manipulated the Jews have been in this instance.

I'm a Christian and a Republican, and I am appalled by how the GOP has been trying to foster hatred. It actually makes me want to throw up, because I can see in it the seeds of another holocaust. I'm voting for Obama, a man who is much more level headed than McCain, a man who has seen prejudice with his own eyes, felt it in his own skin, and managed to overcome his feelings of anger and hate. Now THAT is really Christian.

Is it good to know that a candidate is caught by the balls by a lobby defending a foreign country's interests? It would rather give me the creeps that he gets that mark from such a sinister organization. When will America have a pragmatic and balanced approach to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict?

      • Posted By: Nins @ 10/12/2008 5:50:50 PM

I'm sorry you feel that way, Froy. It is true that AIPAC is a political action committee that lobbies politicians, asking them to pass pro-Israel legislation. But they are a grass roots organization with over 100,000 members, all of whom are private citizens. This is different from corporate lobbyists who lobby for deregulation to stack the deck in favor of their companies.

Many Jews in America lived through the Nazi persecution, and most Jews in America have relatives who died in the Holocaust. For them, Israel is a symbol of a new world order, one in which they are free to practice their religion without persecution. As such, they wish to strengthen Israel, so they donate their time and money to AIPAC. This is a lobby made up of like-minded individuals.

AIPAC is pro-Israel, but I really don't understand why you would call it "sinister." Condoleeza Rice, addressing AIPAC, said "For over half a century, AIPAC has strengthened the religious, cultural and political bonds that unite our two great nations, and I thank you for that." Condi Rice is not exactly a liberal. Furthermore, AIPAC is a non-partisan organization, not affiliated with any political party.

Lastly, I am sorry that you missed the point of what I was saying. My previous blog was not about AIPAC, it was about the fact that Jews across America had received spam emails claiming that Obama was anti-Israel. I mentioned the fact that AIPAC gave Obama an A+ rating to point out the fact that Obama is not anti-Isreal, that the spam emails were malicious and false.

Sam10 - you are so miseducated in this time of severe economic upheavel and distress among not only the american people, but also the world as we know it.

Don't sit here and type that Obama has been "friends" with Ayers and just becuase you've been listening to Sarah Palin (God help you if you are - especially in light of the finding where she abused her power!) and to talk conservative radio!!

Obama has been the one and only candidate who has a grasp and understanding of our current economic disaster in a way the John McCain does not. He has proven to be erractic and lurching from issue to issue over the course of 3 weeks! This is factual information! When the culture of the Jewish faith look at Sarah Palin - they look at someone who in no way resonoates or relates to them! How can she be a "red-neck" and frankly, not care a whole lot about the african race of american people, but then turn around and claim to "like" another race of american people? To me it seems, it you dislike one race outside of your own - it is true that you are more than likely to not like any other race - outside of your own. And that is amazingly sad for Sarah Palin to be this way in a time in our history where the entire world is evolving to experience the richness that diversity has to offer to our lives.

One more thing Sam - if you want to keep harping on associations, then look in the mirror and start with yoru own candidate - McCain and Palin. McCain with Keating (among many others) and Palin with the Alaskan Seccessionist Party (among others - witchcraft and spells?) C'Mon!!!

Obama has stated he would like to keep his relationship open with the Palestinian movemetn. He also has said he suppports talking with terror groups like Hamas. Why would anyone be surprised he wants to talk to Iran, Cuba and Venezuela without preconditions. The only surprise so far is that he has not admitted his long time friendship with Ayers and Khalidi.

John McCain promises tax cuts for the wealthy. How have those tax cuts worked for you, not that the deficits they create cause the financial crisis that takes away the value of your home and investments? To whom much is given, much is expected. If you are fortunate enough to be wealthy, do you really think that taxes should be HIGHER on those who are less fortunate?Ask Warren Buffet how obscene the tax code is.

John McCain has rarely (if ever) stated what he would do for the Jewish community or the State of Israel aside from saying that he would build a US Embassy in Jerusalem when one is already there. That kind of support isn't what Israel needs. Obama has been very open about his positions on Israel, Iran and the Palestinian issues that now Israeli generals are supporting his positions. So who could be better to determine what is good for Israel's security.

Palin put the nail in McCain's coffin. If we wanted our 'friendly' PTA, school board, hockey Mom to run for the second highest office in the land, I would have voted for my neighbor. Palin and McCain are trying to divide the races, religions and the people. We need to unify and vote for Obama/Palin. This was a very good article, I couldn't have said it better. Be wary of allegedly "conservative" politicians who talk very loudly about "getting the government off our backs" but scramble for subsidies on behalf of their constituents at every opportunity.

She was forced on McCain by the far right and is enough to scare off moderate voters.

She hasn't been the most popular governor in America for a while now. You might want to keep up with the news.

BTW, giving Alaskans $3,200 per man, woman, and child might help her popularity in Alaska even as it raises the gas proces in the rest of the USA.

Not any more. She the indicted governor of Alaska. The ethics-challenged governor of Alaska. The open to criminal indictment or civil suit governor of Alaska. She hasn't been the most popular governor in American for some tiem (poll numbers in the 60s, instead of the 80s). But I suspect with the report just returned by the bipartisan committee of the Alaska legislature that Sarah Palin did indeen abuse her power and use her office for public gain -- well, I'd expect her poll numbers to drop like the temperature on a autumn night in Alaska.

This is my first blog comment ever. I was an undecided Atlanta Jewish voter. Baruch is Hebrew for Blessing, and the name Barak has the same meaning, Blessing. Barak "Baruch" Obama has the highest pro-Israel rating (A+) by AIPAC, the most respected Israel political action committee. Barak is surrounded by Jewish advisors, shares Jewish values, is a steady leader in our economic crisis, and will be a fantastic President.

On October 10, the Alaska Legislative Council found Sarah Palin guilty of abusing power. Immediately Ms. Palin said "if you read the report you'll see that there was nothing unlawful or unethical about replacing a cabinet member." This quote by Palin is only 50% true. The Legislative Council report says it was LEGAL for her to fire Commissioner Monegan, since as Governor she has the right to hire and fire her staff at will. The report also says that her firing of Commissioner Monegan was an UNETHICAL abuse of power.

Palin tells you half of the truth, and lies outright about the other half. You know the old saying: If you tell a lie, make sure it contains some truth so it will be believable.

    From the report:

Palin tried to force the Commissioner to prosecute Trooper Wooten (her former brother in law) for illegally shooting a moose. The Commissioner explained to Palin that if they charged Wooten they would also have to bring charges against Palin's sister, who was present on the hunt, had the moose permit and illegally let her husband use it. They would also have to prosecute Palin's father, who cut up the moose and stored it in his freezer, sharing the meat with the Palin family. In other words, the Palins were OK with Wooten illegally shooting the moose when it happened. They participated in the hunt and kept the meat. But a year later when Wooten was divorcing Palin's sister, suddenly the Palins turned him in for illegally killing a moose.

The Palins turned Wooten in to the State Troopers disciplinary commission about a year and a half before she became Governor. The Troopers investigated Wooten, finding that some of Palin's allegations were true and some were false. The Troopers disciplined Wooten with a few days' suspension. When Palin tried to get Monegan (the new Commissioner) to re-open the case once she was Governor, Monegan told her he couldn't do it. All the allegations had already been investigated and Palin had no new evidence. Trooper Wooten belongs to a union, and he can not be fired just because the Governor doesn't like him.

So, the Palins hired a private investigator to trail Wooten, trying to catch him doing something wrong. The investigator took photos of Wooten dropping his kids off at school, using his patrol car. The Palins file a complaint, saying it is illegal for him to ferry his kids in a patrol car. They try and get him fired for this, except it turns out that since Wooten was working a swing shift, his Commander had given him a waiver to bring his kids to school in the car.

Wooten and Palin's sister have been divorced 3 years, yet the Palins continue to persecute Wooten. Palin just can't forgive and get past this family drama.

The Palin investigation was about whether she abused her powers in firing Monegan. THE REPORT FOUND:

"I find that, although Walt Monegan's refusal to fire Trooper Michael Wooten was not the sole reason he was fired by Governor Sarah Palin, it was likely a contributing factor to his termination as Commissioner of Public Safety. IN SPITE OF THAT, GOVERNOR PALIN'S FIRING OF COMMISSIONER MONEGAN WAS A PROPER AND LAWFUL EXERCISE OF HER CONSTITUTIONAL AND STATUTORY AUTHORITY TO HIRE AND FIRE EXECUTIVE BRANCH DEPARTMENT HEADS." (Report at 8, emphasis added).

Once that finding was made, the remaining findings, placed out of order for clearly political reasons, are nothing more than a fishing expedition , or rather, investigator Sen. Hollis French's promised "October Surprise." ,

Yes, the investigation was bipartisan, right up to the time Palin was selected to run as vp. Then investigator Sen. Hollis French, gave a September 2 interview in which he warned the inquiry could yield an "October Surprise" for the GOP. Any judge in the country would be recused for making such a remark. Hell, the left demands the recusal of justices simply because they went fishing, never mind predicting the outcome before the evidence. Yet French did not recuse himself, and both French and the person responsible for oversight, Democratic Sen. Kim Elton, are both in the famous "Obama Headquarters" photo"

    Or see:
    http://www.foxnews.com/video-search/m/20903021/troopergate.htm?pageid=23043&seek=105.499

Rep. John Coghill, a Republican who criticized the handling of the investigation, said it was "well-done professionally." But he said some of the conclusions were judgment calls by Branchflower, and recommended readers should view them with a "jaundiced eye." Somehow, this second part gets dropped out of the main stream coverage. I wonder why?

Nowforthetruth, you are right that Todd Palin has the right as a private citizen to petition the government for anything, including urging them to investigate his former brother in law. But here is what was wrong with the whole thing: Todd Palin was given access to government officials and he represented himself as an emissary of the Governor, not as a private citizen. Todd Palin was given confidential personnel information about Trooper Wooten that he had no right to know. This could land both him and the officials involved in jail, not to mention open to civil suits brought by Wooten, aganst both him and the State of Alaska. This little family feud of Sarah's is getting VERY expensive for the taxpayers.

You are right that Commissioner Monegan told Sarah Palin that it was inappropriate for him to discuss the case with her, since she was Governor and she had a conflict of interest in this matter, that it might come back to bite her in the butt. And it did. Deservedly so. Anyone who reads the report can see that Palin kept turning the screws to get Wooten fired, even after Wooten had been investigated and disciplined for all of the allegations she brought forth. It's over. He was investigated and punished. Palin didn't like the fact that he wasn't fired. Well, I don't like the way lots of judicial decisions are made. But once they are made, it's done. You can say you disagree, say it's not fair, but ultimately you have to get over it. Sarah can't accept this.

And when it comes to partisanship, I have to disagree with you again. The fact that Senator French is a Democrat and an Obama supporter has NO BEARING on the decision by the Alaska Legislative Council to investigate Palin, no bearing on the fact that they found Palin guilty of abuse of power. The committee that instigated the investigation had a REPUBLICAN MAJORITY; presumably they were interested in protecting Palin, especially if the facts were dubious or inconclusive. But it was the FACTS in the case that showed her guilt. You are overlooking the reality that this investigation started BEFORE Palin was named as McCain's VP nominee. You also fail to mention that the Council is made up of MORE Republicans than Democrats. You point out that a prominent Democrat is involved in the investigation but fail to tell people the whole truth.

I read the comments of Republican John Coghill on msn, so it doesn't seem to me that his comments have been left out the mainstream media. Coghill said that the investigation was well done and professional. He also said that some of the conclusions drawn were based on judgement calls -- but he doesn't say which conclusions, and it is you who are assuming that he meant that in favor of Palin. In fact, he could have meant the opposite, or meant something else entirely.

"Nowforthetruth" your new name should be "Now for the 1/2 of the truth I want to tell you."

holyroller, your ignorance is incredible! God gave you a brain so use it and have an orginal, intelligent thought! If you continue to repeat such lies (even John McCain is opposed to) then you appear as ignorant as that older woman at McCain's rally Friday. Even people at his rally could be heard laughing at her comment. Like Senator Obama encourages, let's stick to the issues and vote for the canidate that best represents our beliefs. Once again, just to clarify the facts, Senator Obama was born in Hawaii, he is a junior therefore has his Kenyan father's name (no need to be afraid) and he is a Christian. May I suggest his website to educate yourself on his position on the issues (barackobama.com). Voting is a serious priviledge so please make an educated choice.
