    Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN):

    ACORN: A LIBERAL ACTIVIST GROUP, notorious for voter registration FRAUD and even paying for votes using crack cocaine.

    Operating in at least 38 states (as well as Canada and Mexico), ACORN pushes a highly partisan agenda, and its organizers are best understood as shock troops for the AFL-CIO and even the Democratic Party.

    Acorn and its affiliates have pulled some real stunts in recent years. In Ohio in 2004, a worker for one affiliate was given crack cocaine in exchange for fraudulent registrations that included underage voters, dead voters and pillars of the community named Mary Poppins, Dick Tracy and Jive Turkey. During a Congressional hearing in Ohio in the aftermath of the 2004 election, officials from several counties in the state explained ACORNs practice of dumping thousands of registration forms in their lap on the submission deadline, even though the forms had been collected months earlier. (As I remember in the primaries there was one particular state that held out the votes as described hear that had the news media in an uproar trying to find out what the hrs and hrs of delay were for).

    Given this history, its not surprising that ACORN is so hostile to voter identification laws and other efforts to ensure fairness and accuracy at the polls.

    SUMMARY

    Put very simply, Obama must explain not only his relationship to Ayers and Dohrn, but also his SUPPORT OF RADICAL GROUPS that support the overthrow of the United States Government. Think people, think. It is not one isolated association . Obama has had numerous associations with nefarious people, which shows his lack of judgment. The MainStreamMedia is doing us a huge disservice not focusing more on his past and fully vetting him. UPDATE: Ayers and his wife will be back full force.

      In 2000, McCain operatives in SC accused Rove of spreading rumors against McCain, such as ???suggestions that McCain had committed treason while a prisoner of war, and had fathered a child by a black prostitute,??? according to the New Yorker.

      Bush Campaign Accused of Using Push Polls Against McCain.
      College of Charleston student Suzette Latsko said she received a telephone call from a woman who identified herself as an employee of Voter/Consumer Research, and that the caller misrepresented McCain???s positions and asked if Latsko knew McCain had been reprimanded for interfering with federal regulators in the savings and loan scandal. Voter/Consumer Research is listed as a polling contractor on Bush???s Federal Election Commission filings; the Bush campaign has paid Voter/Consumer Research $93,000 through December 31, 1999. Bush spokesman Ari Fleischer denied the call was a push poll, but said it was important that the Republican Party remember McCain???s role in the S&L crisis.

      Hundreds of canvassers and volunteers have worked for months talking to citizens from Nevada???s most disenfranchised communities and encouraging them to exercise their right to participate in our democracy. Their work has been tireless???they deserve a great deal of credit for spending days in the hot sun at public places from parks to community centers to shopping centers helping citizens complete voter registration applications. Most of the 80,000 registrations they have collected and turned in to election officials come from young people, low income people and minorities???the very people whose voices are too often left out of our electorate.


      As part of our nonpartisan voter registration program, ACORN staff reviews every single application submitted by our canvassers. Special, dedicated staff makes up to three phone calls attempting to reach the voter listed on EVERY SINGLE CARD before they are turned in to verify the information. Our callers verify the information on the cards before turning them in to election officials to make sure that as many new voters as possible get on the rolls and to make sure that all of our voter registration workers are doing the high quality work they are trained to do.


      While the vast majority of our voter registration canvassers do a great job, there have been several times over the past ten months that our Las Vegas Quality Control program has identified a canvasser who appears to have knowingly submitted a fake or duplicate application in order to pad his or her hours.

      Anytime ACORN quality control staff has identified a suspicious application, we have separated that application out and flagged it for election officials. We turn any suspicious applications to election officials separately, along with a cover sheet identifying the nature of the problem and an offer to provide election officials with the information they would need to pursue an investigation or prosecution of the individual. (Note that civic organizations are required by law to turn over ANY signed voter registration applications even when they are known to have problems). We immediately dismiss any employees we suspect of submitting fraudulent registrations.


      It was surprising that law enforcement officials appeared suddenly at our Las Vegas offices Tuesday, because ACORN and its attorneys have already been proactive in providing information about problematic cards and any employee suspected of misconduct. In July, ACORN staff and our attorney set up a meeting with Clark County elections officials and a representative of the Secretary of State???s office to urge them to take action on information ACORN had provided. Since then, and as recently as September 29^th , ACORN has provided officials with copies and???in some cases???second copies of many of the personnel records and the "problem card packages" and cover sheets with which we originally identified the problem cards.


      ACORN is a community organization dedicated to making everyone???s voice count in the vital public policy debates in our country. Helping citizens become active voters is a crucial part of our work to help build a fairer and more inclusive democracy. We will continue with this important work by encouraging every eligible voter to the polls this November.

    Would Walter Annenberg be more angry at McCain for dumping on Ayers,or Ayers and Obama for using his dough to radicalize Chicago schools? Who knows? Yet those who know well the main signposts of the Chicago Way,are not disposed to allow Obama and Ayers supporters to get away with painting the deal as a ''harmless'' or even ''beneficial''connection. Ayers moved his radicalism into academia,as did his many friends of the old SDS days,using city and university money culled from grants precisely like ANNENBERGS. They in turn,grease the political engines of the Daley Machine.

    The poster dubiously called "think2976" reveals EXACTLY what is so wrong with the false and misleading attacks coming from McCain/Palin right now.

    Walter Annenberg began ALL of the Annenberg Foundations. Walter Annenberg was one of Ronald and Nancy Reagan's great friends. He was a life-long Republican, who actually introduced Ronald Reagan to Margaret Thatcher for the first time. He was also our ambassador to Great Britain-- appointed by President Nixon. This "false" smear now has some confused Americans believing that Walter Annenberg, whose only fault in all of this is he spent some of his money trying to do good for other Americans, a life-long Republican was somehow a despicable man. This is WHY no-one should bear false witness against another-- not even in a political campaign. Walter Annenberg is no longer alive to defend his own reputation, or to defend his charitable foundations. Let us NOT allow his good name and his good works to be smeared because Senator McCain's Campaign is so very desperate.

    Angry convervative posters: Do me, yourself and the GOP Party a favor: Put just half the effort that you put into bashing Obama and the Democrats into praising the real values of the Republican Party and it's ticket if you want to get McCain elected. All of this peurile and acrimonious name calling and outright antagonization is not helping our cause, makes the conservative base look childish, unintelligent, frightened and self serving. It turns off Independent voters and so basically serves the Dem's interests. I'm sure you are venting, but it's NOT helping us.

While retaining her Republican registration, she attended the AIP's 1994 convention where the party called for a draft constitution to secede from the United States and create an independent nation of Alaska. The McCain Campaign has reluctantly acknowledged that she also attended AIP's 2000 Convention. She apparently found the experience so inspiring that she agreed to give a keynote address at the AIP's 2006 convention and she recorded a video greeting for this year's 2008 convention. In other words, this is not something that happened when she was eight!

    So when Palin accuses Barack of "not seeing the same America as you and me," maybe she is referring to an America without Alaska. In any case, isn't it time the media start giving equal time to Palin's buddy list of anti-American bombers and other radical associates?

    Jim Johnson, I almost took your comments seriously, until I read further down the page and saw that you were spewing contrary comments. It is clear that you did not read this article, because it is substantiated with references and clearly reveals that Obama was not "paling around" with Ayers during his radical days during the 60's and 70's. Subtraction of those years show he was a kid then. He left Hawaii to attend college here so the communist crap can not be dignified. When we want to be illumined and corrected, it is a simple process - read, analyze, confirm, accept - and from that point on reject further rhetoric.     Obama, the one you can trust! The American people are like leeches on the government. They can no longer think for themselves. They can no longer take care of themselves. They need to be bottle fed and have their diapers changed. Obama is their savior, their Messiah. They can no longer fight for their freedoms. They must succumb to the beautiful words of promise and hope from Obama. He will make their lives great and trouble free. He will make us one world with no bounderies. Everyone will be equal. There will never be rich people or poor people again. We will all be middle class. That is where the world is headed and we will be the first to get there. All medical help and medicine will be socialized. The government will lead the people down the rosey path to hell. The people will serve the mighty leader, Obama. He controls all human activities and tells us were and when to go. He will tell us what to drive and when to drive. He will tell us where to set our thermostats in our houses. He will tell us the kind of food we must eat. He will create the perfect society, the perfect human race. We will never want again. He will provide everything we need. If we are without, he will make the neighbors share with us. He will insure that everyone will have something to eat and something to wear. He will be the guiding light to our future. We will all be happy and full of joy because Obama says we are. He will control our attitudes and provide us with hope that he will always make things better for us. Life could not be easier or better. He will look out for us. Put your full trust in him and he will deliver. He is the almighty, the Messiah, and the keeper of the people.     I have always believed that birds of a feather will always flock together and if you CANNOT trust one of them, you can't trust any of them.

    We all select our friends and associates by their character. If we do not agree with their character and how they lead their lives, then we will NOT accept them as our friends. I, personally, would never associate with anyone that was involved in any kind of criminal activities or racial activities, or involved in any kind of demonstrations against the country which I love with all my heart. I have too much self respect and pride to associate with these types of lowlife trash.

    But, for some reason, we CANNOT and will NOT hold our President to these same standards and good judgement. It seems that a president who has 'no sex' with a young intern in our Oval Ofiice is beyond scrutiny and is still considered to be a GREAT president. It doesn't matter that his actions destroyed the view of the office of the presidency in the eyes of our friends around the world and destroyed the morals of all of our young people. The character of a president is just not important to the American people any longer.

    Promises of 'hope and change' and empty rhetoric has replaced the need of a presidential candidate to have good judgemnet and good character. As long as they are shrewd enough to 'look presidential' and said what the POOR STUPID Americans want to hear, that is all that is important. The American people no longer need evidence, REAL evidence, that a candidate is capable of fulfilling his promises and is capable of protecting and serving the people. Talk is cheap, but the right talk has proven to be all that is required by the American people. Judgement, character, and experience is no longer required.

    I have always believed that birds of a feather will always flock together and if you CANNOT trust one of them, you can't trust any of them. The American voter is willing to accept Obama at face value, without thoroughly researching his background. I would like to know how many Americans are willing to send our young men and women into combat overseas to fight terrorists, and, at the same time, are willing to accept a president who has been friends with domestic terrorists for years, and a president who is supported by Hamas and many, many other radical groups and leaders from around the world.

    Just keep in mind that Obama would never be accepted in the FBI or CIA, but the American voters would elect him as their president and Commander-in-chief of their brave military men and women!!!! May God bless and have mercy on the souls of all the misguided voters!!!!

    2. Which domestic terrorist was a close friend and associate of Obama???s, held a fund raiser for Obama, jumpstarted Obama???s career, and contributed to Obama???s campaign fund?

    I hope that McCain and Palin will not win the election because of their willingness to smear Obama. I'll bet
    many McCain supporters and perhaps McCain himself had sympathetic views of Timothy McVeigh at the time of the Oklahoma city bombing. At the time many people adopted the sentiment that McVeigh had done
    many things right up until the bombing, the main example being his military service. Another guilt by association Item that McCain could answer for is his association with William Hagey.

    Bill Ayers was Obamas (radical) mentor whom he has known since 1995. The Ayers were principals in Baracks first run for the State Senate. The Ayers hosted a Meet the Candidate dinner/meeting at the Ayers home. Not an attractive character for a President to hang out with and to not answer to what he learned from Ayers after all those years.

    * Arab American Action Network (AAAN): Supports expanded rights for illegal aliens and was founded by anti-Israel professor RASHID KHALIDI, former director of the PLO press agency and onetime moderator of PLO advisory committee. AAAN views the United States as a nation wherein ARAB CITIZENS are routinely MALTREATED. To remedy this perceived societal injustice, the organization aims to challenge government policies that violate the civil, political and human rights OF THE ARAB American and ARAB immigrant community. Among these policies are DETENTIONS, DEPORTATIONS and OTHER ATTACKS on immigrants that result from Homeland Security measures!

    AAANs hostile view of the JEWISH state is further manifest in the organizations reference to Israels creation in 1948 as Al Nakba ( The Catastrophe ).

    WHAT exactly does a COMMUNITY ORGANIZER DO? Barack Obamas rise has left many Americans asking themselves that question. Here is a big part of the answer: Community organizers INTIMIDATE BANKS into making HIGH-RISK LOANS to customers with POOR CREDIT.

    In the name of fairness to minorities, community organizers OCCUPY private offices, CHANT inside bank lobbies, and CONFRONT executives at their homes - and thereby FORCE financial institutions to direct hundreds of millions of dollars in mortgages to low-credit customers.

    In other words, community organizers HELP TO UNDERMINE THE US ECONOMY by pushing the banking system into a SINKHOLE OF BAD LOANS. And OBAMA has spent YEARS TRAINING AND FUNDING THE ORGANIZERS WHO DO IT.
    THE seeds of todays financial meltdown lie in the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) - a law passed in 1977 and MADE RISKIER by unwise amendments and regulatory rulings in later decades.

That has provided an opening to radical groups like ACORN to abuse the law by forcing banks to make hundreds of millions of dollars in subprime loans to often uncreditworthy poor and minority customers.

    Any bank that wants to expand or merge with another has to show it has complied with CRA - and APPROVAL CAN BE HELD UP BY COMPLAINTS FILED by groups like ACORN. In fact, intimidation tactics, public charges of racism and threats to use CRA to block business expansion have enabled ACORN to extract hundreds of millions of dollars in loans and contributions from Americas financial institutions.

    Banks already overexposed by these shaky loans were pushed still further in the wrong direction when government-sponsored Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac began buying up their bad loans and offering them for sale on world markets.
    Fannie and Freddie acted in response to Clinton administration pressure to boost homeownership rates among minorities and the poor. However compassionate the motive, the result of this systematic disregard for normal credit standards has been financial disaster.

    ONE key pioneer of ACORNs subprime-loan shakedown racket was Madeline TALBOTT - an ACTIVIST WITH EXTENSIVE TIES TO BARACK OBAMA. She was also in on the ground floor of the disastrous turn in Fannie Maes mortgage policies. Long the director of Chicago ACORN, Talbott is a specialist in DIRECT ACTION - organizers term for their MILITANT TACTICS OF INTIMIDATION AND DISRUPTION. Perhaps her most famous stunt was leading a group of ACORN protesters breaking into a meeting of the Chicago City Council to push for a living wage law, shouting in defiance as she was arrested for mob action and disorderly conduct. But her real legacy may be her drive to push banks into making risky mortgage loans.

    Obama has said he knew Ayers as "just a guy the neighborhood", then he finally admitted working with Ayers but didn't know he was a terrorist, then he changes to his story to he thought he was rehabilitated. He served with him on the Woods Fund after Ayers said he didn't bomb enough! Which story is it? And aren't conflicting stories lies! The truth is the truth no matter how how Obama twists it. What this article fails to say is the factcheck.org so called non partisan is funded by the Annenberg Foundation which also funded Ayers/Obama's Annenberg Challenge and that ALL staff and researchers have liberal training. So America is expected to ask liberal Obama supporters for the"truth" about his stories. Sorry the fox guarding the henhouse doesn't cut it with me. We will see if this is published.

      I don't think Obama ever denied serving with Ayres on charity boards. I think that was the basis of the charge in the first place. When Obama served with Ayres on those boards funded by the conservative and very Republican Annenberg Foundation, Bill Ayes had been named Man of the Year in Chicago for his work in education. That fact probably resonated more with Obama that some quote taken out of context about events 40 years earlier. There is no evidence that there is any relationship between Ayres and Obama.

      I have to wonder two things: First. does a relationship with Ayres preclude anyone from seeking elective office in your mind? Does that include all the people on all the national boards -- many of the Republicans -- throughout the years? Does it include all the professors at the University of Illinois who, since they worked with Ayres on a day-in, day-out basis, rather than the sporatic time on charity boards Ayres shared with Obama? Does it include the Administration of the U of IL for hiring a "terrorist"? Does it include the students, especially the graudate students, who chose to take his classes, since presumably, they would be far more influenced by Ayres than Obama. Does it include the teachers who worked with Ayres on the model schools projects? The parents who sent their kids to those schools? The kids? Just where do you draw the line?

      Secondly, are you aware that John McCain attended a fundraiser in 1998 in the home of convicted domestic terrorist G. Gordon Liddy to kick off his presidential campaign for the 2000 election? Are you aware that Liddy has contributed more than $2000 to McCain for his campaigns? Are you aware that McCain and Liddy have on ongoing, cordial relationship and that McCAin is a frequent guest on Liddy's radio program, as recently as November 2007. Are you aware that in his own book, Liddy bragged about having plans to KILL columnist Jack Anderson (and others), KIDNAP protesters at the Republican National Convention and BOMB the Brookings Institutions? He was unremorseful and unrepentent.

      Now, do you consider McCAin equally culpable of associating with a former domestic terrorist --- or do your standards apply only to Obama?

        MiMi - The point is: We know of McCain's past (good or bad), but all we know about Obama is a past and present littered with radicals, hate-spewers, ex-terrorists, and suspect organizations. Our "journalists" are too busy being enthralled by this man to ask questions. So I think it's wise to look at the culmination of all of Obama's connections. It leaves a lot of questions. McCain, as weak a candidate as he is, is a known factor.

          Michele, if you feel the need to know more about Obama I suggest that you do some reading. Read the books Obama wrote, then read some of the books that have been written about him, both pro and con. Then do the same for McCain, and compare the two men. Get informed. Don't expect the media to do your homework for you. As far as I can see, the line between news media and entertainment is pretty thin. If you want substance you'll have to find it for yourself.

    It is normal for campaigns to pay organizations to register and mobilize voters. Both Republicans and Democrats have done this for years. In a campaign that is costing hundreds of millions of dollars, spending $800,000 on a voter registration drive is not in the least bit shocking.

    Obama was affiliated with Acorn about 15 years ago in Chicago. Acorn has done excellent work in America, helping to bring disenfranchised poor voters into their legal rights as citizens. We all have the right to vote. Some of us (historically blacks, women and ethnic minorities) have been barred from voting by prejudice. Acorn exists to recitfy these wrongs, and to help people claim their rights as citizens.

    It happens to be true that most poor and disadvantaged voters tend to vote Democrat. The Democrats have reached out to this voting block with great success. It's kind of hard for Republicans to say to poor blacks "Vote for us!" when the GOP has so consistently fostered racism in American politics, in ways ranging from blocking civil rights legislation to Rush Limbaugh, et al.

    As for allegations of registration fraud at Acorn, it may be true that there are a few specific cases where over-zealous individuals abused the integrity of the Acorn mission. But one bad apple doesn't spoil the whole bunch, and a few inaccurate registrations can not cancel out the altruistic work that Acorn has done for decades. Even more important, Acorn is required by law to submit ALL voter registrations it receives. This law exists to prevent voter registrations groups from dumping registrations of people they object to -- for instance, a GOP registration drive is required to turn in the registrations of everyone, including Democrats who sign up at their table. Sometimes people fill out fake registrations, using names like Donald Duck or giving the planet Mars as their address. For this reason, every registration drive will end up turning in forms that are counted as fraudulent by the elections board. Acorn, like every other voter registration organization, has a percentage of forms that are invalid and labeled "fraudulent". This does not mean that Acorn is committing fraud. But the smear mongers and conspiracy theorists go crazy.


    I was watching the night that Lou Dobbs presented his opinion about Acorn. He gave no facts, only his own personal opinions. He's entitled to his opinions, but you are not entitled to present opinions as facts, NowfortheHALFtruth.
