    I went to early voting on Thursday, it was good to get it done early. I hope all the rest of you vote too. I always think about how many people in South Aftica stood in the baking sun for many hours when they were allowed to vote for the first time in years several years ago.
    Mandela won by a landslide. Voting is a privilege of colossal proportions. Please, everyone, get out and vote!

    Obama's view of the future of America - Socialism which is the next step to Communism!!


    Under socialism a ruling class of intellectuals, bureaucrats and social planners decide what people want or what is good for society and then use the coercive power of the State to regulate, tax, and redistribute the wealth of those who work for a living. In other words, socialism is a form of legalized theft.

    The morality of socialism can be summed-up in two words: envy and self-sacrifice. Envy is the desire to not only possess another's wealth but also the desire to see another's wealth lowered to the level of one's own. Socialism's teaching on self-sacrifice was nicely summarized by two of its greatest defenders, Hermann Goering and Bennito Mussolini. The highest principle of Nazism (National Socialism), said Goering, is: "Common good comes before private good." Fascism, said
    Mussolini, is "a life in which the individual, through the sacrifice of his own private interests??realizes that completely spiritual existence in which his value as a man lies."

    Socialism is the social system which institutionalizes envy and self-sacrifice: It is the social system which uses compulsion and the organized violence of the State to expropriate wealth from the producer class for its redistribution to the parasitical class.

    Despite the intellectuals' psychotic hatred of capitalism, it is the only moral and just social system.

    Capitalism is the only moral system because it requires human beings to deal with one another as traders--that is, as free moral agents trading and selling goods and services on the basis of mutual consent.

    Capitalism is the only just system because the sole criterion that determines the value of thing exchanged is the free, voluntary, universal judgement of the consumer. Coercion and fraud are anathema to the free-market system.

    It is both moral and just because the degree to which man rises or falls in society is determined by the degree to which he uses his mind. Capitalism is the only social system that rewards merit, ability and achievement, regardless of one's birth or station in life.

    Yes, there are winners and losers in capitalism. The winners are those who are honest, industrious, thoughtful, prudent, frugal, responsible, disciplined, and efficient. The losers are those who are shiftless, lazy, imprudent, extravagant, negligent, impractical, and inefficient.     Capitalism is the only social system that rewards virtue and punishes vice. This applies to both the business executive and the carpenter, the lawyer and the factory worker.

    Wonder what John Wayne would think about this.

    Are you kidding? Is this what it means to be a conservative? To mourn the loss of a film genre which was based on propoganda, lies , deceipt and thievery. I am convinced that the conservative movement is lost and dead. What happened to fiscal responsibility? George Bush? Where are the conservative intellectuals?     The "virtues vivified in Westerns"??? Pillaging people, stealing land - Mr. Will, you had to go to westerns to find virtues? What about the virtues in "Meet John Doe" (I'll stick with Gary Cooper on this one)? A woman anguished at her own lie, willing to give everything up to get it right. What about, in keeping with political undercurrents, "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington"? Doing the right thing no matter what? There's a virtue.

    From the last comment your way wrong sir! Cowboy culture in North America started in the Mexican states of Chihuhua, Durango, Sonora. The vernacular, the wooden tree saddle, the craft the form are all in el estillo "Mexicano!" This vaquero (cowboy) culture moved into Tejas, which became Texas as we know it today.
    I find most American westerns tiresome and egotistical - to Anglo orientated! That???s why Little Big Man, Dances with Wolves and The wild Bunch exemplify a west full of diversity and interesting characters.
    Lonsome dove was mediocre at best! RLR- folk historian.
    P.S. Mexico is part of North America- I thought I should clarify that for those who forgot or actually never learned in the first palce!

    The cowboy culture in N. America started in Texas. For me quintessential western or cowboy movie
    was Lonesome Dove. There were taciturn and stoic characters as well as verbose whiners. It was
    like I was watching male family members and friends on TV.
    The movie is adept at situational circumstances when the verbosity and whining was used and how it was received by the other characters as well as acceptance of responsibilty and accountability.

    Great article.. I always enjoy Geroge Will's comments. And I remember all of those great westerns.. Yes - we are headed for a great revival in this country.... Hey - we are America and when the times get tough - we (the tough) get going... I like Lou Dobbs attitude that we are not in a recession, but a slow down caused by some crooks on Wall Street and in Washington... Let's lock the up and get our life back.

    CEASE AND DESIST: McCain/Palin insinuating that an American citizen is the world's worst terrorist!

    With no mention of Osama Bin Laden or Al Qaeda, McCain/Palin have been insinuating that an American white man named Bill Ayers is "The Terrorist" of this era.

    Incredibly, McCain/Palin believe that Bill Ayers has no redemptive value, while even Al Qaeda thinks that Osama Bin Laden does!?

    The hatred being formulated against Bill Ayers is criminally irresponsible.

    The American people should ask McCain/Palin if Albert Pike had any redemptive value, since American built a statute in Washington DC in honor of him.

    The American people and the World are suppose to believe that an American white man is so vile and toxic that simply being near him makes you guilty of "palling around with terrorists."

    These sentiments being advocated by McCain/Palin against another American citizen, in light of the acts Osama Bin Laden and Al Qaeda have committed against America, are truly reprehensible!

    Further, McCain/Palin "must" be held accountable for their efforts to incite violence against Senator Obama at their rallies. Even people attending those rallies report that the atmosphere is xenophobic and racially tinged.

    America has this unfettered hubris about not wanting to be warned when her actions are opening the proverbial Pandora's box, but there is a tsunami of "change" moving throughout America and the world and...
