How true! Couldn't agree with you more.

Obama campaign denies that "tax cut" hides a form of welfare. "It is not true" said Crystal Knight. "It is not true. It is false. We deny it. Not true. Your saying that it is true does not make it true."

So you would rather give tax breaks to the people who do not need them rather the people who do? That's like the government giving out free Tootsie Rolls to everyone who works in a candy shop.

Angelo Mozilo, former CEO of Countrywide, earned $361,000,000 over the last 3 years- I bet he does not have to struggle to feed his 3 kids and pay his mortgage. I bet his wife does not have to work one job, much less two or three. I bet he is not struggling to pay his mortgage. Including weekends and holidays he made $330,000 a day and McCain thinks people like Angelo Mozilo should get more tax breaks while the middle class suffers.

I thought that's government does? It was the Republican representaves that did not want to vote for this enormous bailout. Pelosi calls it "an investment".

  • Posted By: melandmike @ 10/13/2008 11:02:09 AM

HolyRoller, JoseMarti and similar posters: Do me, yourself and the GOP Party a favor: Put just half the effort that you put into bashing Obama and the Democrats into praising the real values of the Republican Party and it's ticket if you want to get McCain elected. All of this peurile and acrimonious name calling, smearing and outright antagonization is not helping our cause, makes the conservative base look childish, unintelligent, frightened and self serving and basically serves the Dem's interests.

You should look in the mirror.

Barack Obama has a plan and a vision. I stand with him because I support his fundamental values. Barack Obama is Intelligent, Respectful, Genuine, Compassionate, Patient, a Family man. He is in touch with America. He has set a higher standard. Barack Obama will accomplish goals set because of all the support he has every where. . I feel very confident and comfortable with Obama!!!

Damn, Elitist - I knew Obama was the Messiah!

John McCain has actual experiences and real-life government achievements, so he can fix it. But, Barack Obama, with a thin thin resume and a bried career as a community-organizer and lawyer, is likely makes mistakes and poor judgment, regardless of good advisors. An engineer must have hands-on knoweldge of a machinery, from inside out, as well as years of practice, to be able to fix it. I do not take a chance with Obama.

This is what Wikipedia.com has to say about www.Salon.com, "Liberal politics of the United States is its major focus, but it covers a range of issues."

Not that I think wikipedia is right about everything, but I think they nailed this one.

      • Posted By: jiml1956 @ 10/13/2008 4:35:42 PM

Agree about Salon. They're kind of like Fox, but on the other side.

Search youtube for Palin's address earlier this year to the Alaksan Independence Party, or for her church appearances on stage.

Then make up your own mind.

Letting these companies fail would have been the best thing for them. That would have solved the corporate greed that exists in a free market. If these corporations were small businesses that operated poorly and did not have any political ties, then the government would have let them fail. That is why it was so easy to get bipartisan support. BOTH parties are responsible for this mess and they just sold out all of their constituents. If the government really wants to help the middle class, there is a much easier and cheaper way to do this. There is an answer that is short, sweet, and solves more than 1 problem. I???ve been watching with fascination as the conversation in this campaign becomes increasingly shrill. Today. I despair that it has reached a fevered and hyperbolic hysteria.

We are showing the world the worst of ourselves.

This is my plea to everyone posting online comments, to everyone shouting out at rallies, to everyone who is letting their children hear a parent???s hatred overshadow thoughtful, careful decision making.

Please. Stand quietly for one minute. And remember.

Remember who we are and how we are. How brave and kind and caring and great we are as a nation. Let???s remember the searing images from a great depression, from 9-11, from Katrina, from any time or place when one human being reached out or rushed forward to help another.

Let???s vote for whomever we, individually, trust or believe in the most. Let???s not tear ourselves or one another or our nation apart in the process.

Did the Obama campaign write this propaganda? Well, it was written by a Newsweek partisan, so what's the difference.

  • Posted By: GopMom @ 10/13/2008 7:44:42 AM

Wake up folks! Newsweek can print whatever it wants by using "anonymous" sources. It's totally irresponsible journalism, but quite effective for the candidate of their choice. BO is slated to be the next POTUS no matter what, and my heart breaks for American democracy. When can we start calling this "Mediagate"??????

  • Posted By: kammando @ 10/13/2008 7:41:24 AM

Freaking Unbelieveable. You people are so brainwashed. Dont you know that Obama and McCain are only saying what you want to hear to get ur vote. When they get in office they might do 5% of what they said they would do.
Point is this no matter who gets in office the rich will come out smelling like a rose and the middle and lower class will suffer even more.
And have you seen it Dem's are already talking about coming up with a new Bailout plan. You know why. So they can make/save more money and regular hardworking people suffer even more.
Obama has not told people the truth. Oh and why was McCain made to show all of his medical records but yet Obama wasn't?

To: Reality check my ass! The biggest failure of any economic plan in history?? Really? You are the problem with this country. Do a little research. Remember the Carter years. Prime rate of 21%! Inflation running at 18%! Your an idiot... And I love it when someone talks about "handouts to the wealthy". Bet if someone gave you a few million dollars you wouldn't turn it down. Better yet, get off your lazy ass and work for it! Remember, this is America. Why should you be punished for creating wealth and giving people like you a place to work! I'm sick to death of all this whining about the wealthly. Go ahead, vote for Obama smart guy. (or gal)

  • Posted By: REALITY CHECK @ 10/13/2008 5:11:57 AM

It's obvious that Newsweek favors Obama, and Obama may well win, but most people don't know what they're getting. For example, he has voted against extending the Bush tax cuts ??? even for the middle class, which expire in 2010. This means -for families with taxable income of:
    $17,000 - increased taxes of $400
    $29,000 - increased taxes of $1,100
    $72,000 - increased taxes of $2,300
    $251,000 - increased taxes of $6,900
    Source - www.smartmoney.com/tax
When he says that people making under $250,000 won't see a tax increase, he means no increase above the scheduled increase at the end of 2010. And if you have anything that sells at a profit (capital gains), there will be more taxes on that as well. McCain voted to make these tax cuts permanent, but the Democrats in Congress voted against it. Watch your wallets when Obama gets in and he has control of Congress.

I doubt if either one can save the economy or the world, how about the every-day people doing their part? Can't always rely on government alone to make things right. If people are going to continue to be afraid to spend or do anything like they usually do before the financial system whent crashing down on everyone all because of too much greediness,, don't expect anything to get back to normal in this country or the whole world, people are acting like they are afraid to do anything. Ir's like a terrorist attack all over again, how much longer will people be afraid to do anything. Being afraid is the worst enemy of all. They are letting fear control their lives, then don't expect anything to get back to normal anytime soon. Dang, I wonder of some people are afraid of their own shadow.
