In a few weeks we will make a choice that will decide our future.
I follow an economist named Bob Proctor. He has called the top and bottom of every market crash since the 70s correctly.
Also, he perfectly predicted the current real estate market meltdown and the picture he paints about what will happen in the next couple years
is terrifying. He thinks it will be worse then the great depression.
The banks in the U.S. are going under one after the other. Countrywide ,Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers and Merrill Lynch , Fanny and Freddy Mae ,AIG
The government took them over because they are essentially bankrupt. Even with the goverment nationalizing hundreds of billions of dollars in debt the stock market is crashing
the credit markets are frozen and all of us may suffer beyond anything in the last 80 years.
McCain just like Bush " doesn't understand the economy".
That not just my opinion its his own words. Not only does he not understand how to fix it but he does not understand exactly what is broken.
It is no surprise that he doesn't. The people that make up these securities use complex mathematical models very few people understand.
Bush and McCain both can take the credit for this mess since they helped deregulate the laws that were protecting us.
Bush's economic advisor Phil Graham wrote the deregulation bill that allowed banks to take huge risks with all of our future.
Now, Phil Graham is the head of McCain's economic policy. He is also McCain's choice for the next secretary of the treasury.
No one in this country can afford for that to happen. The last time Bush met with his economic advisors was in March. He didnt realize that anything was wrong. Phil Graham had the guts to say that we are in a mental recession after he helped create the worst economy meltdown in our lifetime. It will take the best and brightest minds in the world to get us out of this nightmare. As bad as Bush has done, McCain would be
even more destructive because things are in much worse shape. The next president will not inherit a surplus like Bush did but a crashing economy and a 11,600,000,000,000 (trillion) dollars deficit. Most of it Bush created and it will take decades to pay it back.
If you do what you have always done then you will get what you have always got.
When it comes to policy Bush and McCain are the same 90 percent of the time.
So why are the polls even close then ?
Mccains team just said they no longer want to talk about the economy.Instead they would like to spend time talking about obama
which means running the biggest smear campaign in history.
They think they can just tell you lies and you wont be smart enough to see through it
Let's teach him we are smarter than that .

here are a bunch o fgurus who predicted depression on the past, let alone end of the world. I bet 90% of high ranking politicians (Bush, McCain, Obama, Clintons, even DFR included) do not understand economy, as well as 90% US citizens. And why should they? There are a lot of specially educate economicts who give them advice. Of cource, it is usual to blame current administration for the mess, this time Bush and Republicans are the victims of bad decisions made long ago, even before Clinton.Even if Bush had tried to fix something 1+ year ago - Congress (Republican or Democratic) would not have allowed him do it - why to fix something which sofar worked?
Obama definitely will get full benefit, but he will regret it next 4 year unless he will listen to really smart economists (I doubt he will, becouse smart ones are GOP-oriented).
And if majority of people believe in Armageddon - it will happen.

As long as the Democrats and Republicans run this country nothing is ever going to get any better. We are on our way to a one-world government unless we can get rid of the two-party system. Our currency will soon be the Amero, a replacement for the failed federal reserve note we call "money". The U.S. economy, and eventually the government, will merge with those of Canada and Mexico to form the North American Alliance,
a massive country designed by the New World Order to compete with the European Union. There's not a damn thing any of us can do short of revolution.

Current crisis is not because US lost money - just opposite, a lot of foreign countries invested in bad US mortgages, so they effectively paid high price for our real-estate, and eventually it will be sold americans for lesser price. Those countries are in real trouble now. The problem here is the lack of lending power. Banks have to keep cash to cover their debt to other banks. They can not use as the coverage the motgage papers, because under current circumstances nobody knows the real price of them (for that, they need to know the price of the house). So, these papers, even defalted, might cover more than a half of the debt (and therefore release alot of money), their current cost is considered to be zero. And they will stay this way before people start buying houses by any price. But again it does not happen because even very qualified buyers can not find any mortgage lender.
Recently I saw several foreclosed or pre-forclosed houses. Banks are desperate to sell them for really rificulous price, and several buyers wold rush to buy them right now - no way without cash.
To restart the lending process, our Goverment has to do very little- start lending people money directly. It is enough to start lending only to very good qualified buyers - process will start immediately. People will start buying foreclosed homes, houses prices will stabilize, banks will be able to estimate part of their mortgage papers and use some cash for lending, more people will get mortgages, and so on. And goverment will return tax payers monew with good income.
I don't understand why neither candidate even mentioned this way.

President Obama and the Coming Stock Market Crash

How destructive to the U.S. economy would a Barack Obama presidency be?

An exclusive Newsmax analysis warns: There could be a very rough time ahead.

Beneath Obama's flowery rhetoric lies a dangerous economic plan that will wreak havoc on the American economy.

Obama plans to return to the failed policies of high taxation coupled with an expansion of government spending.

Worse, Obama says he is absolutely committed to almost doubling the capital gains rate ??? something he will easily accomplish with a Democrat Congress.

In the coming months ??? when investors realize that Obama will raise the cap gains rate ??? there could be a stampede of asset sales as investors rush to take their profits now to avoid Obama's doubling of the tax rates next year.

All of these issues and more are explored in Newsmax magazine's special report "Obamanomics ??? the Coming Tax-and-Spend Nightmare," by Wall Street Journal columnist John Fund.

This Newsmax magazine special report gives Americans the first in-depth look at the Democratic presidential candidate's likely strategies ??? and how they will affect not just the larger economy, but your personal wealth as well.

Indeed, Obama makes no bones about his plans to go on a tax rampage. Not only would he increase the capital-gains tax rate from 15 percent to as much as 28 percent, he wants to allow the 2001 and 2003 Bush tax cuts to expire in 2010, which effectively raises taxes on Americans by tens of billions of dollars.

He also wants to do away with the $102,000 FICA payroll tax cap, which means anyone making over $102,000 would pay an additional 7 percent in taxes on earned income.

And the loan dividend tax rate George Bush implemented? Under President Obama it will be DOA!

If you are concerned about your wealth and family's financial well-being ??? and that the American economy remains strong ??? you must read this special report and share it with friends and family.

Interesting that this article examines Obama's AND McCain's policies, but has a picture of only Obama -- on both the front page of the website and in the article two. Great objectivity Newsweek! But then again, you are owned by the Wash. Post Co. so why should we expect anything else? http://dissentingjustice.blogspot.com/2008/10/washington-post-proclaims-that-sarah.html

This economic disaster is the nail in the coffin for supply-side economics and deregulation. We will now return to the more stable and prosperous demand-side (Keynesian), regulated management of the economy. That has proven to be the best in the long run. Want some data on that? Check out: http://business.unr.edu/econ/wp/papers/UNRECONWP06008.pdf --- And, welcome to the Democratic century.

I believe this both candidate's plan will fail. The real problem is the American people are spending beyond their means. Even if you have zero debt personnaly, we have still received more goods and services from the federal government than we have payed for. Every man, woman and child in America has received approximately $50,000 dollars in federal spending. You may not have asked for, wanted, or used the services but the money was spent. A family of four has accumalated roughly $200,000 in debt and that does not even count the family's mortgage, credit card debt, car loans, etc. We will have to make some hard choices shortly, as every credit junkie knows, eventually you're forced to live within your means because no one will loan you the money to keep spending. I think other nations, esp. China and Japan are just about at the point where they will not fund our lavish lifestyle any further. As an aside, I believe it is a mistake to look at how we solved the Asian crisis for guidance today. Solving the Asian crisis CAUSED this mess. Bailing out Asia in 1998 essentially sent the message that you could do something risky and the federal government would bail you out. Of course that did nothing but cause more people to take risks. An 80 billion dollar bailout in 1998 caused a 700 billion bailout in 2008. If this bailout works, we'll have a 7 trillion dollar bailout in 2018. Lastly, if this article had been slanted to the left any more, I would have fallen out of my chair. This is not an endoresement of the right either. Both parties got us in this mess, both are trying hard to dig us deeper in the hole. Cutting debt, both private and government, is the only way out of this mess. Thank you for reading.

The McCain camp claims that their motivation behind attacking Obama has been to question his character, integrity, judgement, and leadership potential.

Well, if you examine the conduct of both candidates during the past month, there is no question about who has shown the character, integrity, judgement, and leadership potential necessary to restore our nation's standing in the world, resurrect our economic vitality, fix the broken health care system, and motivate industry to shift from fossil fuel to non-polluting, renewable energy technologies.

    Obama/Biden '08.

thank you labman57...i totally agree with you ! McCain has shown no integrity in his campaining at all this last few weeks. He has stirred up hatred and discontent that is scary. Obama has as always remained a politician that shows leadership under pressure and a man of great integrity!!! And the same goes for the vice presidential candidates...who has shown the country what a leader is all about!?! Thank you again!!

McCain Healthcare and Home Refinance Plans are the BEST AMERICA CAN HOPE FOR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On McCain's housing Refi that he debated last week proposing 300 billion to put a floor under the real estate market is monumental in terms of state property tax values that support communities across America , if we do what Obama wants , it will lower the value of property taxes , as they attempt to refi at a Lower value that then will Artificially Compete to drive down over property values , that will then lower the tax revenues that are assessed on real estate that affords the Municipalities that stain and support Infrastructures . The effect on the tax revenues streams like this , that a Obama Plan would cause would Link the Federal Government and the states together to the point that a full blown socialist state would evolve , because the states would become more and more dependent on Federal assistance , instead of sustaining the Individual states ability to provide their own infrastructures support .

This is the same with Healthcare , Obama's plan would place Federal assistance for those that can't afford healthcare , and Obama says the Federal Government would then step in , and this would Directly compete with independence companies , this is another attempt to kill off the Capital system and replace it with direct Federal assistance programs , resulting in more Socialistic principles of Government operations , that takes less and less choices away from the people .

The way John McCain healthcare plans work , crossing state Lines to form associate healthcare plans would take the lower risk areas of the united state and blend them with the Higher risk areas , thus spreading out the risk , and letting competing companies automatically through technology developments and management practices would create more jobs , independent jobs !!!!!!!!!!!

it is OBVIOUS Obama is doing the best thing, had convened an emergency session of his new economic brain trust Bob Rubin and Larry Summers, both Clinton-era Treasury secretaries credited with lifting global financial markets out of the "Asian contagion" of 1997; Paul Volcker, former chairman of the Federal Reserve; Laura Tyson, Clinton's Council of Economic Advisers chair; Gene Sperling, Clinton's national economic adviser; and Dan Tarullo, also a key Clinton go-to man on trade and G8 issues. On the other hand what did Mccain do?? conduct occasional phone conferences with anywhere from seven to 30 business people and economists who review his campaign material; otherwise, the senator funnels their advice through Holtz-Eakin, a former staff member of Bush's Council of Economic Advisers (a joke right?) Plus Many of McCain's advisers are Fortune 500 CEOs (AND MCCAIN'S FRIENDS WHO MAKE MILLIONS OF DOLLARS AND RECEIVE HUUUUGE TAX CUTS) like Meg Whitman of eBay???he named her at the second debate as a possible Treasury secretary???rather than denizens of Wall Street or Washington (though he does speak with John Thain of Merrill Lynch (BANKRUPT AND BAILED OUT WITH TAX PAYER'S MONEY) regularly). I mean I am not the smartest person in the world but., it is CLEAR who is doing the right thing to change this messed up economy. OBAMA 2009

I liked Obama right up to the point that he said that 95 % of the people need to hate the other 5 % because thats where I Barack Obama is going to get the money to give to you other 95 % , so his whole program is based off a Fear campaign instilled around hating the rich , who have listened to Obama for the past year , speak of the hate for the rich like he has , at which point of the beginning of Obama campaign the DOW was at 14,000 points , and after a year of hearing the hate the rich Campaign , to the point that all the rich took his advice and decided to head for the Hills with their money , so they took the money out of the banks the investment , and today we have the DOW at 8000 points , and no money in circulation in the Economy .

so I would say Obama has done a Great job of Casting fear into the Land , and divided the electorate by way of a hate the Rich Class war fare tactic , thats very Creative huh , it almost has a sense of Hostility to it doesn't it ?????

So what if he's black all the old white Presidents haven't done a great job let's try a change. For the good or bad at least he knows we have a problem.THAT'S MORE THAN McCAIN(McBUSH) KNOWS.

How is it that Newsweek allows racist comments, like those posted by imazookeeper, to be posted to the site. Is there no filter???

Is is regrettable that many McCain supporters are unable to articulate the difference between the two candidates without appearing angry, racist or uninformed. What is even more concerning is the continued parade of lies that are trotted out as fact by people whose primary source of information is Fox News or the local bar.

Let's start talking about solutions folks. When will McCain spell out his plan? Or will he not telegraph this plan either ( McCain claims to know how to get Osama Bin Laen, can he let Bush and Cheney know his plan?)?

While McCain's at it, he may want to have a transition team in place....just in case he wins the race. I guess he doesn't plan on winning to so there's no need to prepare.....

  • Posted By: Greg in AR @ 10/12/2008 2:39:46 PM

The 100 million housholds not receiving a "tax break" under McCain's plan only caryy 2.99% of the income tax liability in this country anyway. If they paid any less, we'd have to start calling it welfare. America the ignorant, no thanks to deliberately deceptive media reporting.

Is it too much to ask for fair, unbiased and factual reporting? Clearly, for Newsweek, it is...
