I am loving these comments. The only McCain supporters who spoke up for McCain were:
    a) emmarcee- Who made a half-assed conspiracy on how the entire economy fell down so Obama could win the election. I'm sure even a couple Republicans would find that comment offensive to their intelligence.
    b) le114424 - Whose clever (not) one-sentenced replies to large posts absolutely convinced me to vote for McCain!

Hehehe, I've also noticed that for a long time no one has said anything positive about McCain, only the latest half-baked right wing attack against about Obama.

You know what, how are McCain's numbers since bringing up the Ayers attacks?

      McCain, knock yourself out...

    • Posted By: hexagon_sun @ 10/11/2008 7:37:51 PM

Doesn't matter. If he opened his mouth on the economy without being forced to, he would look like a fool. It was so obvious what the audience thought of him during the debate (if you were able to see the audience reaction bar). He's doing the one thing he is good at (maybe).

    Power Recognizes Power...

When you find yourself face-to-face with a Lion, trying to verbally appeal to its better nature is infantile, running is foolish, and surrender is fatal.

When 2 Lions meet, there is a brief encounter, and a quick retreat because Power Recognizes Power.

Senator McCain's recent conciliatory remarks towards Senator Obama, in light of McCain/Palin's specious rhetoric towards Senator Obama, were made because "behind the scenes" those with "Power" told Senator McCain to tone it down...now!!!

Senator McCain's Presidential campaign was doomed the moment he acquieced to the political will of the Far Right Wing of the Republican Party, as Jonathan Alter so eloquently stated.

Govenor Palin's selection and recent wink wink to the Exalted Cyclops exemplifies this point.

Ironically, in the proverbial battle between Good and Evil, if Senator Obama is the Messiah, as some Republicans have insinuated, then Senator McCain would have to be Lucifer.

However untrue, these positions would make this Presidential election of Epic Proportions.

To his credit, Senator Obama has amassed a politically formidable machine destined to elevate the Democratic Party to heights unseen in the modern era.

As for Senator McCain, if it was announced that he was medically ill, he may be forgiven for his recent specious and contemptible comments towards Senator Obama.

History is likely to reflect back and state that Senator McCain missed his last best chance to win the Presidency when he surrendered the opportunity to take out his pen and veto the earmarked Senate Bailout Bill. Rather than live up to his long-long principles, he voted yes instead.

A Real Maverick Would Have Voted No

    • Posted By: Cazador1972 @ 10/12/2008 2:13:42 AM

Absolutely, add that to his position on the Confederate flag, Bush's tax cuts, offshore drilling, water boarding, running a clean campaign, attacking another candidate on lack of experience and choosing a running mate of LESS experience, etc. McCain means to do well until he is losing, then anything goes. That's not living on principle, that's living on polls. I expect, realistically, that candidates will soften their positions to accommodate themselves to political reality; in my book is good for a politician to have some wiggle room, but what McCain has done is pull a 180 on almost every issue that was dear to him. This isn't a "maverick" - this is a shameless opportunist.

  • Posted By: Cazador1972 @ 10/12/2008 2:02:28 AM

McCain said years ago something that gave me pause: He said that "maverick" never gave him the nomination. And it did make sense for him to tag to the right when trying to seize the republican nomination, the problem is that by trying to keep the base happy McCain has excluded everyone else. And although the McCain of 2000 could have gotten my vote (had he not been derailed by Bush) the person who passes for McCain these days is a sad shell who is acting PRECISELY as the candidate he says he is not.

McCain is a maverick and a person of integrity when the polls allow him to be. When his numbers go south he is every bit the mendacious and dirty politician he says he is not. He opposed the Paris Hilton tax cut and now is for it, opposed offshore drilling and now is "drill, baby, drill" (which to me is the same this as paying $50 for a t-shirt that says Tommy Hilfiger in big letters - what do you get out of it???). And for goodness' sake, he was against torture and now he's for it! How can you trust a person who only has integrity when it is convenient for him? That's not Country First - that's McCain First.

Should McCain lose, he's squandered his chances of being a respected old man in congress such as Senator Byrd or Senator Kennedy, Disagree with them all you want, both sides of the aisle respect them and when they speak people listen. McCain is working very hard on being the crazy cousin no one takes seriously.

The mistake of choosing Palin is the point where Senator McCain's judgement went south. I have met her and seen her work from inside the government in Alaska. The idea that she was chosen is unfathomable. One person for two days in Alaska just speaking to Republicans would have been enough research to kill the deal. I have heard McCain is a gambler but even most gamblers know a little about what they are betting on. The idea that they still could win.........

Jonathan is too charitable. All of McCain's historic "independence" has been for his own self-aggrandizement. His most famous contribution to legislation was his was of rebranding himself as an ethics reformer after his disastrous turn with Keating (a man McCain's wife maintained a business relationship for years after the scandal broke). During this election cycle, he has pledged to nominate judges who will gut the last bits of McCain-Feingold still standing & he has, as a practical matter in his own campaign, stepped outside the bounds of his own legislation.

From the beginning I've always thought John McCain was a decent man, a strong man, and a true patriot. However kind I still feel towards him, I do worry that the bad guys in the GOP, I mean the Karl Roves and Cheneys and Wolfowitz, the money above all else types, will just use McCain for their purposes and force McCain to do their bidding.

As for Palin, I have nothing left to say about her. No brains, no morals, a total zero.

wow, what must it be like to go thru life perpetually deluded, with a mind and intellect warped and distorted by a never ending stream of right wing propaganda trash. I don't know what we're going to do with you after November 4. I would say deportation, but I wouldn't wish your kind on any other country. Maybe we can rocket you up to the moon.

1180, here's the good news: Obama will win, and it will be good for everybody, even the right wing radicals. Nowforthetruth will have lower taxes, better health care, stable global relations and a stronger economy under Obama. Sure, his ego will get bruised when McCain loses, but I guess that's unavoidable. He's going to benefit from Obama, like all Americans. Share the love and prosperity!

I read another article where there was a war protester in McCain's rally today. She had a sign saying, "I want Peace" and shouted no more war (something to this effect). As she was being escorted away, McCain said, "there's an example of someone who just does not get it". What was there not to get? This gal just displayed a sign proclaiming she wanted peace and then stated she wanted the war to end. When someone interrupts Senator Obama'a rallies, he acknowledges them by saying this is what is so wonderful about our democracy, everyone has an opinion and allows the person to speak his/her mind. This is ONLY ONE of the many differences between Senator Obama and John McCain which makes Senator Obama the right man to be our president and commander-in-chief.

  • Posted By: Nins @ 10/11/2008 10:09:25 PM

Wow. GREAT article. I really used to admire McCain. It is a shame he decided to throw himself in with the hate mongers like Karl Rove. McCain used to have balls, right up until 2004 when he became Bush's yes-man. As a Republican who was appalled by what Bush and Rove were doing, I thought McCain was a hero. Then he turned around and voted with Bush 90% of the time, and now he is runing a hate based Rove smear campaign. Where did he go wrong?

  • Posted By: a brighter America 08 @ 10/11/2008 9:58:33 PM

FACT: Since McCain cannot lead his own party, how in the world does he think he can lead the United States of America? HE CANNOT!! Good riddance to McCain and Palin.

  • Posted By: Hugh Amara @ 10/11/2008 9:42:39 PM

The Republican Party brand has obviously been tarnished so badly by the recent events. Had McCain chose Liberman as a running mate, he would have proved to the independents his willingness to go outside the box/party in favor of reasserting his image as a maverick. The Palin choice strengthened his Republican support, but failed the majority of the independents. Its not enough to have Liberman as a friend, he should have selected him as a running mate.
