    To all of the conservatives out there who think that Obama is a flaming liberal, I would like to remind you of what he did when he was elected President of the Harvard Law Review. The Law Review President gets to name ten individuals to write articles for the Review, and these ten people also get to control the content of the publication. All of the minorities and the liberals thought they finally had it made, that Obama would appoint ten left wing editors. Instead, Obama appointed three conservatives, three liberals and four moderates. That year the Law Review was critically acclaimed as the best run and best written Harvard publication in decades.

    So when he wins in November, don't freak out. Obama is a centrist and will appoint a balanced cabinet full of active people who will really get things done. Kind of like the way our multi-cultural society is supposed to be.

    THE AFFIRMATIVE ACTION CANDIDATE!

    NEVER IN THE HISTORY OF THIS COUNTRY HAS A PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE BEEN GIVEN SUCH A FREE PASS BY THE PRESS AND JUST ABOUT EVERYONE ELSE!

    I AM WAITING FOR A BLACK PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE TO MAKE IT ON HIS OWN MERIT.

      Typically, Republicans refuse to give Obama the credit he deserves, and instead have to find someone to "blame" for his ascension. Anyone who still buys into this BS about the "liberal" MSM need only look at how they pilloried Clinton for his indiscretions. The media knows a good story when they see one, and if that story had been about McCain, instead of about Obama, you can be sure the Democrats would not be giving the media all the credit for making McCain a star.

      The Republicans need to get their thumbs out and start presenting real issues and real policies, instead of the usual, and clearly useless tactics of character assassination.

      Come to think of it, never mind. Just keep running your mouths, Repubs! Every negative ad you run brings Obama closer to the Oval Office.

      I think you are referring to Bush here. After all, it was his last name which gave him the nomination and the Supreme Court who gave him the presidency. THAT is not making it on your own but relying on Pappy's friends to give you something you didn't earn.

      What has Obama done? Only put himself through college through merit scholarships he earned on good grades, chuck a cushy Wall Street job and becoming a community organizer, getting elected through the state level to federal level, rousing a nation to rally behind him merely four years later and becoming the most influential minority politician in the history of this country. You know, affirmative action stuff... (Rolling Eyes)

    Why Bill Ayers is important to this campaign?
    John McCain should make the argument personal and something that the American people can identify and understand. John McCain views Bill Ayers as a founder of the Weathermen and Weather Underground and also founder of the Students for Democratic Society SDS on the campus of the University of Michigan. The University of Michigan had held the first sit-in against the war. John McCain and the other 600 Vietnam POWs believe Bill Ayers was responsible for prolonging the war and causing them to receive extra beatings by the North Vietnamese for refusing to show their exuberance for the antiwar effort in the United States. The North Vietnamese fought even harder and refused to negotiate or return our POWs given the organized antiwar protests in the United States. All the North Vietnamese had to do was wait and domestic antiwar protests orchestrated by Bill Ayers would cause the United States to surrender. John McCain spent five and half years as a POW and personally received extra beatings because of Bill Ayers. Barack Obama views Bill Ayers as a reformed domestic terrorist who did despicable things in the past but should be given a second chance today. For Barack Obama there was never a need to keep a distance from Bill Ayers. Maybe if Barack Obama could have walked in John McCains shoes for just one day and suffered just one of the extra beatings that John McCain endured for five and a half years because of Bill Ayers and his Weathermen antiwar movement then maybe Barack Obama might appreciate a need to keep a distance from Bill Ayers. Along with the SDS Students for Democratic Society, Weathermen Underground, the Black Panther Party also actively opposed the Vietnam War. Barack Obama received the support of Southside Chicago Congressman and former Black Panther party member Bobby L. Rush during his bid for the Illinois Senate. The Black Panther Party along with the Weathermen Underground prolonged John McCains captivity and caused him to receive extra beatings. It is ironic that Bill Ayers led the antiwar protests during the Vietnam era that caused John McCain to receive extra beatings and to experience nearly six years of captivity, and today Barack Obama has been leading antiwar calls against the Iraq war. Barack Obama can not understand why John McCain is not happy that Barack Obama has not kept a distance from Bill Ayers. If Barack Obama had walked in John McCains or any of the other 600 American POW???s shoes one day, he would have no problem understanding why he should have kept his distance from Bill Ayers. The word shunning comes to mind. If Barack Obama would have shunned Bill Ayers and members of the Black Panthers Party there would be no issue in tonights debate.

    Being TOO liberal like Barack Obama is scarry, and definitely not good for America in the tradition of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan. Obama is trying to distract us the voters from his liberalism, TOO far to the left, and his ties to ACORN, Bill Ayers and Louis Farrakhan.

    It really is simply all about honesty, about who can we trust. Looking at everything today it is literally too important to just follow old prejudices, biases and/or emotional attachments or to allow ourselves to be manipulated by subterfuge. Each of us has to be disciplined to be objective, rational and conscience driven to decide who we can trust to turn things around, to honestly change things. Even Bush???s actions indicate that he knows his policies have failed and that change is desperately needed. Each candidate says they will change everything and resolve the problems but we really can???t depend on what they say, whether it be about what they will do or how they criticize their opponent. Is it Obama-Biden or McCain-Palin who destroys their own credibility by depending on falsely slandering their opponent? Has Sarah Palin impressed that we can trust anything she says or just that she will say anything without any conscience? Has John McCain demonstrated that he is sincere and has he been consistent or does he constantly change positions and does his history of strong commitment to the Bush-Cheney/Republican policies that so greatly contributed to today???s problems just make him very questionable? Has Senator Biden been consistent in his career and does he seem to be consistent and truthful now? Throughout the primaries and the presidential campaign has Barack Obama stayed consistent and maintained a constant quality and the same level headed presentations that would encourage trust? All of the garbage that is being thrown around is distracting but the reality is that the real person we each have to be honest with is ourselves. To fail to see and act on the truth will only leave us at fault and then with more of the same or even worse.

    William Timmons, the Washington lobbyist who John McCain has named to head his presidential transition team, aided an influence effort on behalf of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein to ease international sanctions against his regime.

    The two lobbyists who Timmons worked closely with over a five year period on the lobbying campaign later either pleaded guilty to or were convicted of federal criminal charges that they had acted as unregistered agents of Saddam Hussein's government.

    During the same period beginning in 1992, Timmons worked closely with the two lobbyists, Samir Vincent and Tongsun Park, on a previously unreported prospective deal with the Iraqis in which they hoped to be awarded a contract to purchase and resell Iraqi oil. Timmons, Vincent, and Park stood to share at least $45 million if the business deal went through.

    Timmons' activities occurred in the years following the first Gulf War, when Washington considered Iraq to be a rogue enemy state and a sponsor of terrorism. His dealings on behalf of the deceased Iraqi leader stand in stark contrast to the views his current employer held at the time.

    John McCain strongly supported the 1991 military action against Iraq, and as recently as Sunday described Saddam Hussein as a one-time menace to the region who had "stated categorically that he would acquire weapons of mass destruction, and he would use them wherever he could."

    Timmons declined to comment for this story. An office manager who works for him said that he has made it his practice during his public career to never speak to the press. Timmons previously told investigators that he did not know that either Vincent or Park were acting as unregistered agents of Iraq. He also insisted that he did not fully understand just how closely the two men were tied to Saddam's regime while they collaborated.

    But testimony and records made public during Park's criminal trial, as well as other information uncovered during a United Nations investigation, suggest just the opposite. Virtually everything Timmons did while working on the lobbying campaign was within days conveyed by Vincent to either one or both of Saddam Hussein's top aides, Tariq Aziz and Nizar Hamdoon. Vincent also testified that he almost always relayed input from the Iraqi aides back to Timmons.

    Talking points that Timmons produced for the lobbyists to help ease the sanctions, for example, were reviewed ahead of time by Aziz, Vincent testified in court. Proposals that Timmons himself circulated to U.S. officials as part of the effort were written with the assistance of the Iraqi officials, and were also sent ahead of time with Timmons' approval to Aziz, other records show.

    Moreover, there was a major financial incentive at play for Timmons. The multi-million dollar oil deal that he was pursuing with the two other lobbyists would only be possible if their efforts to ease sanctions against Iraq were successful.

    AJC Strongly Condemns Rev. Jesse Jackson's Comment on American Jews
    October 14, 2008 - New York - The American Jewish Committee (AJC) has condemned the Rev. Jesse Jackson's statement about 'Zionists who have controlled American policy for decades.'
    "Rev. Jackson's remarks, which appeared in an interview with the journalist Amir Taheri in today's New York Post, echo classic anti-Semitic conspiracy theories about Jewish power," said AJC Executive Director David A. Harris. 'This statement, regrettably, is not the first troubling comment by Rev. Jackson regarding Israel, Zionism and the Jewish people.'

    Arguing as a private citizen that an Obama administration could bring significant change to U.S. foreign policy, Jackson was quoted as saying that "Zionists who have controlled American policy for decades" would lose much of their influence should Senator Obama be elected president."

    Vote for John McCain!!!!!!!!

    John McCain is the one who can come up with solutions to our economic problems. Barack Obama and Joe Biden are mathematically challenged.

    Send them back to school and this time have them study something that is useful.

    Joe Biden with his history and political science double major in college and Barack Obama???s major in political science give them absoloutely no economic, scientific, quantitative or analytical background to handle the pressing economic and military problems facing our country.

    These two mathematically challenged Democrats are supposed to be able to crunch numbers and understand how to cope with our economic and budget crisis. Two people who probably can???t add four numbers together are suppose help solve our economic crisis.

    Do you know that they offer basic accounting continuing education classes to lawyers because most lawyers do not understand simple accounting. We have had enough mathematically challenged lawyers screw up our country. You at least know that John McCain has the computational and analytic skills to compute fuel loads, cargo weights, wind speeds, and trip distances to keep from running out of gas on missions.

    Vote for John McCain!!!!!!!!

    How can we trust Barack Obama on health care if he is a smoker?

    Would not someone who really wants to hold down healthcare costs want to quit smoking.

    Is Barack Obama a chain smoker or not? If he is only a closet smoker and not transparent by smoking in public and admitting that he has a nicotine addiction then how can we trust him on other issues that are truly grave?

    Does he smoke a lot of cigarettes only when he plays poker with his Chicago friends or is it a daily habit?

    We want to know if Barack Obama is going to promise to not chain smoke around Joe Biden because Joe Biden had asthma as a teenager.

    The reason that Joe Biden could not fight for his country in 1968 during the peak of the Vietnam War was that he had teenage asthma.

    Joe Biden had horribly bad luck, ninety percent of all children are diagnosed with asthma before age six but Joe Biden was unlucky enough to be in the ten percent group of children who acquire asthma after age six and became asthmatic when he was a teenager. After five student deferments while he attended college and law school, his teenage asthma finally came to the attention of his local Selective Service Board and he missed the opportunity to serve his country during time of war as an officer.

    But for his bad luck with his teenage asthma diagnosis, Joe Biden could have gone in and served his country honorably as a officer and a gentleman and perhaps as a Judge Advocate Law Officer similar to his son.

    We hope that Barack Obama will not smoke in front of Joe Biden because the smoke could aggravate Joe???s asthma that prevented him from serving his country during time of war.

    We can not trust Barack Obama on health care if he is a smoker.

      The anti-semitic types are waaay over in the Ron Paul crew. If Israel is attacked, we will help her just as we did in 73. If you pose some hypothetical, I am sure the response will be the same, if attacked, we will support Israel.
      If you want to try and Tie Barack to Jesse, that won't really work. Barack kicked Jesse to the curb in the Primaries. Didn't want or need him. Jesse is as done as last years turkey. If you are trying to scare friends of Israel, they tend to be in the top quintile in intellect and education, so get an A game.
      I Personally donate to Magen David Adom, Cholel Chabad, and a couple of Orhapanges I spell even worse. I am a D who loves Israel. I also love our NATO allies, Japan, Korea, and other places I was lucky enough to live. (Yes, Kenya too...) Obama realizes we have responsibilities.

    How would you like it, if Joe Biden or Barack Obama would take the controls and fly your Boeing 777 on your next commercial flight here in the US. Most independent and undecided voters would not rest easy knowing that Biden or Obama can rely on what they learned in their civil procedure class to help you land safely and not run out of jet fuel during the trip. Pilots have proven analytical skills.
    There is a saying that there are old and bold pilots but no old bold pilots. John McCain has that good judgment and he has the proven analytical skills to be able to tackle our budget problems. Barack Obama and Joe Biden can spend the next four years and take some accounting and economics continuing legal education classes.
    After four years of academic coursework, then they might be able to throw their hat in the ring. Given their academic training, a trillion dollars may look the same as a million dollars on a budget spreadsheet.

    Vote for John McCain!! He is the one who can come up with solutions to our economic problems.

      Being a retired USAF flyer, I know pilots pretty well. Being a pilot is a skill set that does not translate into executive competence. A few of my best commanding officers had Navigator Wings, Non-rated, an English Major, and a couple of Academy Grads.
      Bush, good soul, passed USAF flight training, and drove F-102's for a while, and never got the nack of leadership. As far as flying skills go, Marine Avaitors... and Navy Aviators have better training...but it does not make you a competent leader. Mr McCain, God bless him is a hero, who rose to a field grade command of a flying squadron. Since his retirement, there have been literally tens of thousenads of officers promoted to similar responsibility in the several services. It is uniquely unremarkable and unapplicable.

      "Comment: How would you like it, if Joe Biden or Barack Obama would take the controls and fly your Boeing 777 on your next commercial flight here in the US. "

      I'm not voting for a pilot, I'm voting for a president. And given McCain's deranged economic ideas, his "computational skills" don't seem to be relevant.

    Dude. Its idiots like you who think just sayin 'America is great' while whoring us out to the Russians and Chinese who are to blame for the current mess. Hang every Republican and everyone who voted for Bush in public squares and we wont have this problem again.

      Electoral bloodshed has already happened. Let it stop.
      Peaceful transition of power is the best repudiation of our recent past.

    • Posted By: RandyHiggins @ 10/12/2008 11:54:20 AM

      Yeah, why spend all that money on elections when we could build scaffolds and take care of those conservatives. Why do you think Russians and Chinese are bad? They are socialists. Aren't they the ones liberals want to emulate?

      • Posted By: Cazador1972 @ 10/12/2008 10:37:03 PM

        Russia has not been a socialist country since 1991. China is socialist in name only. If those countries are so bad, why did we finance our deficit by selling them our T Bills? They do own most of our debt, you know this, right?

        Would it kill you conservatives to read a book?

      • Posted By: Nins @ 10/12/2008 12:11:19 PM

        Randy, I agree with you that Topcat's comment was obnoxious and out of place. However, you should know that Obama, while being in some respects a liberal is really a moderate Democrat. Furthermore, in his book Audacity of Hope Obama writes at length about the failures of communism and socialism. He believes that American democracy is the greatest political system on earth. So when he wins, you don't have to worry about us all becoming socialists. Obama is against socialism. He is for a strong democracy where ALL Americans can thrive (not just the top 5% income earners who have been controlling legislation for the past 8 years).

    In what alternate reality is Jimmy Carter a centrist????????

    • Posted By: Braes @ 10/14/2008 11:57:51 PM

      Carter would be a centrist in a line that stretches from Marx to Smith.

  • Posted By: melandmike @ 10/13/2008 11:06:21 AM

    HolyRoller, JoseMarti and similar posters: Do me, yourself and the GOP Party a favor: Put just half the effort that you put into bashing Obama and the Democrats into praising the real values of the Republican Party and it's ticket if you want to get McCain elected. All of this peurile and acrimonious name calling, smearing and outright antagonization is not helping our cause, makes the conservative base look childish, unintelligent, frightened and self serving. It turns off Independent voters and so basically serves the Dem's interests.

    About the time our original thirteen states adopted their new constitution in 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh , had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years earlier:

    'A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government.'
    'A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury.'
    'From that moment on, the majority always vote for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.'

    'The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years'

    'During those 200 years, those nations always progressed through the following sequence:

    1. from bondage to spiritual faith;
    2. from spiritual faith to great courage;
    3. from courage to liberty;
    4. from liberty to abundance;
    5. from abundance to complacency;
    6. from complacency to apathy;
    7. from apathy to dependence;
    8. from dependence back into bondage'

    Professor Joseph Olson of Hemline University School of Law, St. Paul , Minnesota , points out some interesting facts concerning the 2000 Presidential election:

    Number of States won by: Democrats: 19 Republicans: 29
    Square miles of land won by: Democrats: 580,000 Republicans: 2,427,000
    Population of counties won by: Democrats: 127 million Republicans: 143 million
    Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Democrats: 13.2 Republicans: 2.1

    Professor Olson adds: 'In aggregate, the map of the territory Republican won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of this great country. Democrat territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements and living off various forms of government welfare...' Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the 'complacency and apathy' phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached the 'governmental dependency' phase.

    If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal invaders called illegal's and they vote, then we can say goodbye to the USA in fewer than five years.

    If you are in favor of this, then by all means, delete this message. If you are not, then pass this along to help everyone realize just how much is at stake, knowing that apathy is the greatest danger to our freedom.

    WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE,
    ONLY BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE

      What a load. Republicans often appeal to images of self reliance that are a facade. To hear people talk, you would think Sarah Palin lives off the land and survives on moose whereas in reality Alaska is the biggest pork barrell dependent state in the union. In the South where I am from the agrarian past of Jefferson has been lost. Rural areas that vote heavily Republican where I come from are full of drug use and people scrapping by on minimum wage jobs because of poor education. Alaska is highest in drug use in the nation. This is not to mention the corporate welfare we are seeing on a massive scale. All the "welfare queens" in the entire history of the United States have cost us only a fraction of this most recent bailout of wall street alone. We are all interdependent on each other whether we like it or not. Your fantasies of self reliance are harmless as long as you realize that they are just that. You need to live in reality long enough to understand that we live in a complex world and not some Man against Wild or survivalist fantasy that you have cooked up in your head.

      • Posted By: billtill @ 10/14/2008 1:50:55 PM

        Really. And how much has it cost us? Can you give me the numbers that you are so sure are way less than the 700 billion dollar bailout? How many people receive welfare that are capable of working a job and earning money? Any idea? Reread the article. In case you didn't catch it, the reason for the mortgage crisis and the bailout was liberal ideals. They are the ones who pushed for and got relaxed lending standards in order to make it "fair" for everyone, ie for everyone to get a mortgage on a house, whether they could realistically pay for it or not. You are the one living in delusion. Another thing, self reliance doesnt mean farming and growing your own food. It means getting off your @$$ and going to work.

        • Posted By: Young Hickory @ 10/14/2008 3:24:22 PM

          That's right. If you work hard then you will be rewarded monetarily just like Bush's buddies who ran Enron into the ground and cost thousands of employees their pensions. They were such hard workers that they walked away with millions even though they were inept.

          • Posted By: Doc Howl @ 10/14/2008 4:53:36 PM

            More to the point, the people that WERE working were the ones ripped off by Enron, Tycho, Worldcom, etc.

    Vote John McCain!!!! Vote John McCain!!!!

    I want the President to be someone who can think for himself and not rely exclusively like a blind person on a particular advisor. I want someone who understands numbers and can make analytical decisions himself. Years of computing payloads, fuel requirements, weather and distances as a pilot are the experiences that John McCain brings to the table when listening to economic proposals.

    His eyes will not glaze over when there are ten page budget spreadsheet proposals presented to him. Barack Obama and Joe Biden have no mathematical or quantitative education or experience between them. They do not teach accounting in law school.

    That is why they offer basic basic accounting to attorneys as continuing education classes after they are licensed. I also am willing to bet that neither Barack Obama or Joe Biden never took a basic accounting continuing legal education class to improve their lack of skills.

    Both Obama and Biden were political science majors as undergraduate which means they have no quantitative training or mathematical background. The average nurse who gives vaccinations or antibiotics shots have better computational and mathematical training than either Joe Biden or Barack Obama. A nurse knows not to give you a tenfold quantity of any particular drug and has a good foundation in mathematics. Similarly all pilots are trained in vectors and physics.

    John McCain is the one who can come up with solutions to our economic problems.

    Barack Obama and Joe Biden are mathematically challenged. Send them back to school.

    Vote John McCain!!!!

    • Posted By: Young Hickory @ 10/14/2008 3:25:36 PM

      McCain can't even use a McIntosh.

  • Posted By: NewsWkDickG @ 10/14/2008 1:20:46 PM

    John McCain consistently gives the impression that he is not all that bright; frequently he appears to not know what to do, he changes positions often and then everything he ever does is always for him and his political status. He has clearly demonstrated all of that over his whole career and then again so obviously when he selected Sarah Palin, who is bazaar, self-focused, dishonest, incompetent and just ridiculous. Additionally we only need to look at the last eight years under Bush-Cheney and where we are today and remember, in spite of all of their claims to be different, who strongly and even arrogantly supported all of it and ask ourselves are we now going to reward and encourage that? It is very hard to see how this presidential race can even be close and it can only be explained by people being distracted and focused on the wrong things, by their giving credit to the garbage being thrown around and neglecting to focus on the issues. If we don???t want more of the same or even worse, then we had better put our biases and prejudices aside, refusing to let our emotions be manipulated, and concentrate on the reality of things. If we don???t, the looser won???t be Barack Obama, it will be us!

    paulte, whether you want to admit it or not, your boys in the gop are the ones who got us into this mess, and by the way, there are quite a few of your fellow republicans who agree with Obama. If you want to place blame, look no further than your own pathetic party leadership. You made your conservative bed for eight years, now lie in it and get a good night's sleep. LET'S GO OBAMA!!!!!!
