Obama could well end up winning if the polls are believable but he is no Ronald Reagan. In a three way race, Ronnie got more than 50% of the popular vote (not much more). There is just no way Obama will get over 50% of the popular vote. 2008 will not be a watershed for Liberals. Ronald Reagan issued in a new era.

Obama believes in nothing but himself and change for the sake of change. The day after the election (if Obama wins) will be more like the morning after a one night stand than anything else! People will wake up to the reality of a federal government completely in Democratic hands, something we haven't had since Jimmy Carter. They will wake up to an Obama - Pelosi - Reid axis running things.

Is this what America wants? I think not! The bright side to the impending cloud is that two years of this horror story will see the Republicans take back the Congress in the mid-term election.

Wake up America and reject Obama & the Dems!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    NOBAMA, NOBAMA, NOBAMA, NOBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Biggest one day increase in the Dow in market's history. However:

"The Dow's lone decliner was General Electric (GE, Fortune 500), which reported weak quarterly earnings late Friday. It was also among the 18 components of the S&P 500 that didn't join the rally.???"

    http://money.cnn.com/2008/10/13/markets/markets_newyork/?postversion=2008101318

Another reason might be that, having provided a soapbox for socialist through its NBC division, the market no longer trusts GE with investment capital, Buffet notwithstanding.

    THE GREAT BUSH DEPRESSION
I follow an economist named Bob Proctor. He has called the top and bottom of every market crash since the 70s correctly.
He perfectly predicted the current meltdown and the picture he paints about what will happen next
is terrifying. He thinks it will be worse then the great depression.
The banks in the U.S. are going under one after the other. Countrywide ,Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers and Merrill Lynch , Fanny and Freddy Mae ,AIG
The government took them over because they are bankrupt. Even with the goverment nationalizing hundreds of billions of dollars in debt the stock market is crashing
the credit markets are frozen and all of us may suffer beyond anything seen in generations
McCain just like Bush " doesn't understand the economy".
That not just my opinion its his own words. Not only does he not understand how to fix it but he does not understand how its been broken.
It is no surprise that he doesn't. The people that make up these securities use quantum mathematical models very few people understand.
Bush and McCain both can take the credit for this mess since they helped deregulate the laws that were protecting us.
Bush's economic advisor Phil Graham wrote the deregulation bill that allowed banks to take huge risks with all of our future.
Now, Phil Graham is the head of McCain's economic policy. He is also McCain's choice for the next secretary of the treasury.
No one in this country can afford for that to happen. The last time Bush met with his economic advisors was in March. He was the last to know somthing was wrong. Phil Graham had the guts to say that we are in a mental recession after he helped create the worst economy meltdown in our lifetime. Check out this link to the truth http://my.barackobama.com/keatingvideo
It will take the best and brightest minds in the world to get us out of this nightmare. As bad as Bush has done, McCain would be
even more destructive because things are in much worse shape. The next president will not inherit a budget surplus like Bush did but a crashing economy and a 11,600,000,000,000 (trillion) dollars deficit. Most of it Bush created and it will take decades to pay it back.
If you do what you have always done then you will get what you have always got.
When it comes to policy Bush and McCain are the same 90 percent of the time.
So why are the polls even close then ?
Mccains team just said they no longer want to talk about the economy.Instead they would like to spend time talking about obama
which means running the biggest smear campaign in history.
They think they can just tell you lies and you wont be smart enough to see through it
Let's teach him we are smarter than that
Stand up and hold them accountable
Bush isn't on the ballot this year but his policies are
    Elect Obama Biden 2008

There has been considerable effort to discredit Barack Obama as being a Muslim, as associating with a domestic terrorist, as being influenced by a racist minister, as not being an American born citizen and more, all clearly irrational and substantially created accusations, aimed just at stirring emotions and justifying people???s prejudice. Any objective viewing of the facts, checking of his positions, learning of his history and/or just listening to him obviously dispels and identifies all of it as simply being garbage and all of that has been done, yet the BS continues and some people even seem to want to hear it. John McCain now states that those absurd accusations are false and advocates they shouldn???t be believed or used, while Sarah Palin continues to subtly use the unfounded fears and intentionally stir the emotions, demonstrating an inconsistency and a lack of sincerity. With so much at stake and the obvious fault and indecision, offering little hope, continually displayed by the Republican Party one would wonder why anyone would not want to seriously consider a creditable and promising alternative. If the answer is that while many don???t want to admit their racial bias it is actually quietly and strongly present and they then grab onto this other BS to hide behind and justify their strong feelings, then that is not only a shame, it is also sick as they may just be denying themselves the chance to be better off, to solve many of their problems and to improve their status, rather than opting for more of the same. That would simply be like ???cutting off your nose to spite your face???; that would simply be crazy. I am not saying that anyone who doesn???t vote for Obama is prejudice but I am saying that anyone who doesn???t vote for Obama because they are prejudice is being illiterate and maybe doing themselves a considerable injustice.

One thing for sure; I will not vote for a Democrat this time. Even Carter was not as bad as Obama. At least Carter had some experience and with that was able to generate the Egypt/Israel peace accords. Obama has a proven track record of doing nothing except making undelivered promises and associating with very bad people. What has happened to the Democratic Party? Horrible Harry, Nasty Nancy, Christopher Crime, Frankenstein Frank, etc. etc. etc. are all failed leaders of the Democratic Party. Than you take their Dunce Dean as the role model mentor for them and you get is nothing good, absolutely nothing good. The sad news is and it is a FACT is that there are a lot of honest Democrats that are filled with integrity and have solid experience that have been swept into the background and are meaningless to moving on in a positive direction. The last two years with Nasty Nancy and Horrible Harry as so called leaders are proving to be the true cause of everything that is going wrong with America today. Presidents do not pass laws so therefore the Senate and Congress are to blame for it all. Who runs those two side shows????????

Pretty good description of modern Dems. The problem, in a nutshell, is that they have become too much like the Reps. That's why this Dem is voting Nader. Why not join me and help clean up this bipartisan mess.

Why not join you? Because Nader is the reason we have had George W Bush for 8 years.

Screw Nader and the Corvair he drove in on.

Junior Senator from Illinois Barrack Obama supports using cocaine; supports registering dead people and cats to be voters; supports a broadening hawkish war campaign putting our sons and daughters in dangers way in Africa and Pakistan; supports taxing our retirees 401K accounts (i.e. capital gains and dividends that they use to buy food to put food on the table.). He is only for the young (20-35 year old) and its class warfare.

Once in office,ACORN will have a sympathetic President to it's agenda and will try to take over the DNC. And it'll be back to get a baseball bat to break a bank window and wear a helmet to clash with the police. Kitchen table bomb making.
And Obama will only smile and approve.
Americans forgot what radicle domestic terrorists are! Vote for Obama and be reminded!

You realize, that the parrell doesn't truely lie between Busch and Carter... but more like between Nixon and Busch.
Obama is beign set up to be the next Carter... thus, the election in four years may more closely resemble 1980's in ways most liberals (and we indeps) find a bit horrifying.

    I might be wrong, though.

Carter was not a centrist, he was an incompetant micro-manager. I remember hin setting the rules on how fast you could drive AT 55MPH and how warm you could keep the house during summer and winter. The market forces truly dictated that , people bought higher mileage cars and started buidling more energy efficient houses.
Don;t tell me that AT&T was a good thing as Mondale told us. Remember the black ugly phones. Even Bell labs is now considered un-competitive.
Clinton benefited from the de-militarization of America. He learnt his lesson very quickly.
In the end the conservative will win - they believe in the survival of the family and self-reliance and personal responsibility. Guess what, keep waiting for the hovering wet nurse to breast feed you on every whim, you will destroy your family sooner or later.

I have yet to see ONE piece of evidence for this ridiculous attack. Name me ONE credible source.
Of course, the boogeyman of socialism is a trite relic, especially when considering that it was Free Market deregulation and supply-side economics that gave us this present crisis and deficit.

If you are really scared about socialism, I suggest you ask McCain why he also voted for the bail-out package. Republicans love to say that "government doesn't work", which is true, when they are in charge it doesn't!

  • Posted By: Cazador1972 @ 10/12/2008 10:04:53 PM

I'm surprised at how simplistic this article is. Carter did not leave the White House the same way Bush is, in fact, Carter polls only turned against him at the last moment while Bush is leaving after bankrupting both a country and an ideology.

Also, Reganism will disappear the way prohibition did, meaning not entirely. Democrats will get the presidency and larger majorities in congress and we will, for sure, see economic reform and more extensive oversight, the lack of which has given us this abysmal crisis. This however, would hardly be a revolution, merely a rational use of government powers to keep a drunk financial system from breaking the bank as they just have.

Sarah Palin went to 5 schools to get a 4 year Journalism degree and wanted to be a sportscaster . John McCain graduated 5th from the bottom in his class. Joe Biden 8 years of college, law degree , Obama , 8 years of college law degree. Tough to follow the law and rule on the law if you dont know what the law is. No more retards in the WhiteHouse.

Senator Obama has always been a moderate Democrat as he wrote in his book, Audacity of Hope.

It makes me laugh when I watch clips of his opponents rallies, because many of the viewpoints and policies that McCcain and his VP candidate support do not benefit a capitalistic democracy like the US. Current Bush policies of engagement in long-term war, decline in anti-Americanism abroad, over-deregulation of our major industries, inequitable tax codes, advancement of anti-abortion+anti-stem-cell research+ anti-gay marriage (while opposing any form of gun control measures), lack of envrionmental awareness and establishment of a comprehensive national energy program, lack of modernization of our nation's public school system, high statistics of unemployment and citizens lacking of health insurance, and the ever greater disparity amongst our nation's social classes do not bode well for the world's most powerful country, if we are to remain as such. Our country needs to head in a new direction in November.

It is normal for campaigns to pay organizations to register and mobilize voters. Both Republicans and Democrats have done this for years. In a campaign that is costing hundreds of millions of dollars, spending $800,000 on a voter registration drive is not in the least bit shocking.

Obama was affiliated with Acorn about 15 years ago in Chicago. Acorn has done excellent work in America, helping to bring disenfranchised poor voters into their legal rights as citizens. We all have the right to vote. Some of us (historically blacks, women and ethnic minorities) have been barred from voting by prejudice. Acorn exists to recitfy these wrongs, and to help people claim their rights as citizens.

It happens to be true that most poor and disadvantaged voters tend to vote Democrat. The Democrats have reached out to this voting block with great success. It's kind of hard for Republicans to say to poor blacks "Vote for us!" when the GOP has so consistently fostered racism in American politics, in ways ranging from blocking civil rights legislation to Rush Limbaugh, et al.

As for allegations of registration fraud at Acorn, it may be true that there are a few specific cases where over-zealous individuals abused the integrity of the Acorn mission. But one bad apple doesn't spoil the whole bunch, and a few inaccurate registrations can not cancel out the altruistic work that Acorn has done for decades.

I was watching the night that Lou Dobbs presented his opinion about Acorn. He gave no facts, only his own personal opinions. He's entitled to his opinions, but you are not entitled to present opinions as facts, NowfortheHALFtruth.
