CONSERVATIVE REPORTER David Brooks: Sarah Palin "Represents A Fatal Cancer To The Republican Party"

"[Sarah Palin] represents a fatal cancer to the Republican party. When I first started in journalism, I worked at the National Review for Bill Buckley. And Buckley famously said he'd rather be ruled by the first 2,000 names in the Boston phone book than by the Harvard faculty. But he didn't think those were the only two options. He thought it was important to have people on the conservative side who celebrated ideas, who celebrated learning. And his whole life was based on that, and that was also true for a lot of the other conservatives in the Reagan era. Reagan had an immense faith in the power of ideas. But there has been a counter, more populist tradition, which is not only to scorn liberal ideas but to scorn ideas entirely. And I'm afraid that Sarah Palin has those prejudices. I think President Bush has those prejudices."

The Palin investigation was about whether she abused her powers in firing Monegan. THE REPORT FOUND:

"I find that, although Walt Monegan's refusal to fire Trooper Michael Wooten was not the sole reason he was fired by Governor Sarah Palin, it was likely a contributing factor to his termination as Commissioner of Public Safety. IN SPITE OF THAT, GOVERNOR PALIN'S FIRING OF COMMISSIONER MONEGAN WAS A PROPER AND LAWFUL EXERCISE OF HER CONSTITUTIONAL AND STATUTORY AUTHORITY TO HIRE AND FIRE EXECUTIVE BRANCH DEPARTMENT HEADS." (Report at 8, emphasis added).

Once that finding was made, the remaining findings, placed out of order for clearly political reasons, are nothing more than a fishing expedition , or rather, investigator Sen. Hollis French's promised "October Surprise." ,

Yes, the investigation was bipartisan, right up to the time Palin was selected to run as vp. Then investigator Sen. Hollis French, gave a September 2 interview in which he warned the inquiry could yield an "October Surprise" for the GOP. Any judge in the country would be recused for making such a remark. Hell, the left demands the recusal of justices simply because they went fishing, never mind predicting the outcome before the evidence. Yet French did not recuse himself, and both French and the person responsible for oversight, Democratic Sen. Kim Elton, are both in the famous "Obama Headquarters" photo"

Rep. John Coghill, a Republican who criticized the handling of the investigation, said it was "well-done professionally." But he said some of the conclusions were judgment calls by Branchflower, and recommended readers should view them with a "jaundiced eye." Somehow, this second part gets dropped out of the main stream coverage. I wonder why?

Even Bill Clinton points to liberal Congressional Democrats??? protection of Fannie and Freddie from scrutiny as a primary cause of the current economic meltdown.

The link below contains a purported list of the top 25 in Congress who got contributions from the folks at Fannie and Freddie. Obama is listed third, after Dodd and Kerry, even though Obama is just a junior Senator. Obama is followed next by Clinton. Barney Frank and Nancy Pelosi are on the list as well.

Then there is the Senate Banking Committee Chairman Christopher J. Dodd who allegedly got special mortgage deals from Countrywide, who gave preferential rates to 'friends' of company's chairman.

For an interesting article purporting to detail the House Financial Services Committee Chairs long history with Fannie Mae, See http://www.businessandmedia.org/printer/2008/20080924145932.aspx

"House Financial Services Committee Chair promoted GSEs while former 'spouse' was Fannie Mae executive."

The link below describes how some in Congress tried to use the original version of the bailout bill to divert money eventually recovered to groups like ACORN, a group Obama has a long association with. See:

And then there is House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who allegedly has directed nearly $100,000 from her political action committee to her husband's real estate and investment firm.

PLEASE DON'T MIX APPLES & ORANGES.

McCAIN/PALIN (DUMB & DUMBER) ATTACKS ARE FULL OF DANGEROUS LIES.

OBAMA IS SIMPLY RESPONDING TO THE DANGEROUS LIES & ALMOST ALL HIS ADS HAVE TO DO ABOUT HIM & HIS POLICY OR McCAIN'S POLICY.

OBAMA IS A GENTLEMAN AND HE HAS NOT, AND WILL NOT ACT IN A MILLION YEARS LIKE McCAIN/PALIN.

Nobody in their right minds would vote for any GOP candidate this year - not even the conservatives.

There is a backlash against inane populism, anti-intellectualism and unbridled greed and mismanagement of the budget in our Government. Who on EARTH believed our economy would be FINE with BUSH Jr. in control? A man who has failed at everything his hand has touched; a guy who started two wars and gave us all sizable tax cuts (to "stimulate" the already stable and strong economy). He has squandered our economic legacy in eight short years - if not him personally, then his stupid-ass party and their policies that had so much influence over everyone on Wall Street.

I don't care what you say about Pelosi and Reid - they're not the culprits in this mess. It is Bush and his cronies, who are secretly trying to do away with the Middle Class entirely in America, I think, and make the lines between rich and poor very much stronger.

We the People are not voting for these guys again. McCain is an okay guy but the GOP itself is stale, old and out of touch, very much in dire need of some intellectuals, some new thought leadership and some new and interesting, workable ideas. They're on the out and out, and so are the dummies who follow and support them blindly, the Evangelical element who doesn't read, who doesn't learn and whose narrow-minded bigotry is no longer going to have as much sway in our elections -- look where it got us, panding to the "populist" element.

We need someone with brains to lead America - not another bunch of mediocre war mongers!

Vote for Obama-Biden and just get it over with so we can move beyond this stupid, idiotic economic crisis that will likely last at least a decade, thanks to Bush, the worst president we've ever had, poor guy....

The McCain camp claims that their motivation behind attacking Obama has been to question his character, integrity, judgement, and leadership potential.

Well, if you examine the conduct of both candidates during the past month, there is no question about who has shown the character, integrity, judgement, and leadership potential necessary to restore our nation's standing in the world, resurrect our economic vitality, fix the broken health care system, and motivate industry to shift from fossil fuel to non-polluting, renewable energy technologies.

    Obama/Biden '08.

The sad fact for Senator McCain is that he has fired before aiming and only then discovering that his target remains unhit whether it is questioning the character of his opponent or his response to the worsening economy. He then proceeds to reload only to fire again without aiming first and thus leading to compounding his misses and being labeled as erratic.

Senator McCain's Motto: Ready!, Fire!, Aim!

The GOP is grasping at straws. They have nothing substantive against Obama, but boy are they good at making up lies. This is the leading Karl Rove tactic for years, and if America falls for this again we should be ashamed of ourselves. Not to mention the obvious fact that this is all a smokescreen to keep the focus off of the fact that Palin and her Alaska associates are in contempt of court for refusing to testify in the Troopergate hearings. After Nixon and Clinton, Americans are to some extent jaded, but really, would you want a VP who refuses to attend hearings in her own defense, and instructs her employees not to testify? That smells like guilt. It surely doesn't give the impression that she has done no wrong and has nothing to hide.

This year, the GOP offers you an angry old man and a woman who, while personable, is desperately uniformed about national and international issues. Both of them are far right politically. McCain used to be a maverick, but since 2004 he's voted 90% with Bush. McCain's policies are not original or reformist, despite how he's tried to co-opt Obama's popular message of change. Please go to the websites of both of the candidates and read their platforms. Obama's Blueprint for Change has more good ideas than McCain's plan. Compare them yourself. Obama's basic premise is that tax dollars should be spent to make America stronger and to improve the lives and well being of our people. For example, he uses education programs to train a new technology workforce, contributing to energy independence, creating jobs and improving the economy. When you read McCain's plan you will find no over-arching design to get America back on track. Instead you'll find more tax cuts for the wealthy, de-regulation of the health care industry, and a stated intent to overturn Roe v. Wade.

I'm a Republican. Although I embrace some forward-thinking social values, in the past I've rarely voted Democrat. My thinking was that since Republicans grow robust economies, by voting Republican I'd be endorsing a plan that would grow wealth for our nation, and then we'd be able to afford social programs. It was a good strategy for a couple decades, but I have to say that the tenure of W. Bush has changed my mind. Not only is there nothing fiscally responsible about today's GOP, the insidious alignment of the party with religious intolerance has really turned me off.

On the other hand, the intelligent luminous thought of Barack Obama has ignited my patriotism. I want a President who puts America first and can get the economy back on track. In my mind, values voting takes a back burner when we are faced with a meltdown of the economy. It is time for a change, a real change. The Republicans have controlled the Presidency for 28 of the past 40 years, but they have fallen down on the job. The Democrats have a stellar candidate this year, and I am voting for Obama.

Finally, something enjoyable from this dirty campaign! Have you ordered your copy of Larry Flynt's movie, "Nailin' Pay-lin", yet?

I enjoyed the article very much. As long as nasty politickin' doesn't lead to exhortations to violence, it is probably okay. When it has nasty racist overtones, it's definitely not okay.
