MERCHANTS of HATE AND FEAR HAVING THEIR EFFECT

It's clear that Steve Schmidt, Hannity, Rush, Coulter, Malkin, Kristol, Liddy, and FOX NEWS are finally having their desired effect. The hate filled mobs attending these McCain and Palin rallies are the harvest from years of seeding hate and fear, while spreading the slander of the far right.

I suppose these MERCHANTS of HATE AND FEAR make a lot of money trying to keep their party in power and spreading their filth. However, the COST TO THE COUNTRY and our political health is incalculable.

These people who spend their radio and TV time ginning up hate and fear should be ashamed. They are the most UN-American public figures we have seen in quite a while.

What is worse is that the once proud GOP has become dependent on these MERCHANTS of HATE AND FEAR. The GOP is becoming the party of the unruly mob. They cater to the fears of many good Americans who are looking for an answer to their anxieties about the direction of the country.

The GOP's MERCHANTS of HATE AND FEAR tell these Americans that is is OTHER AMERICANS (!) who are the ENEMY. They divide. They overtly state that people who disagree with them are NOT AMERICANS- that those who do not follow the MERCHANTS of HATE AND FEAR are "not like us".

Shame on these MERCHANTS of HATE AND FEAR and their disdain for their fellow Americans.

Schmidt will never be mistaken for Rove. What is happening now is that the public is frustrated as hell that McCain is more concerned with nobility than fighting for the country, to the point that he is willing to help Obama look good in the process. As it stands now, he and McCain are being perceived as wusses who are the lesser of evils in this election. McCain needs to do as the public is telling him and go after Obama. This is not a race fro Miss Congeniality and that is what McCain is running. He seems to be totally unaware of the stakes and of who and what his opponent is, and that his function until after election day is to win votes for himself, the party and the country.

McCain can't do this because he has his own closet of skeletons which will bury him. Can't throw stones when living in a glass house. Sarah Palin's pick as a running mate goes to judgement on the part of McCain. People want someone who makes good decisions. This was not one. His temper, his adultry, his erractic behavior, his own past connections....the list goes on and on. This is not a good time for America.

Here's the thing: Kerry and Gore were not particularly likeable candidates. Gore especially had an aggressive streak that was easy to target. Whether it's true or not, Obama has managed to paint himself as completely calm, non-aggressive, and optimistic. He has adopted an inherently "positive" persona that neither prior candidate had, and negative attacks end up bouncing off him like he's rubber and McCain's glue. If Schmidt was really that smart, he wouldn't have let McCain adopt a mean-old-fart persona; instead, he would've painted him as wise father-time. It's too late now, though. McCain's negativity, combined with the economic crisis, has won the election for Obama.

In other words Himmler is like Rove and Schmidt is a clone of Goebbles. Correct?

      Ludwig - you are correct.

Change your name as you do great disservice to the man of peace and harmony. Your stating that McSleaze who is already running a highly volatile campaign should go even sleazier, is against everything that Buddha stand s for. Your words are disgraceful to the very nature of Buddha.

What a joke! This guys is singularly responsible for the despicable tone of this campaign. He should be forever toxic because of it.

A late makeover on the precipice of defeat won't change that. Steve Schmidt is an example of the very worst in politics. Own it, Steve.

John McCain has demonstrated that he is unfit to lead anything. He has insulted the greatest country in the world with his hate and fear mongering. McCain/Palin make Bush/Rove/Cheney look like Sunshine and Lollipops.

Picking Palin was a mistake. I liked McCain & he was a viable candidate until he picked Palin. She is dragging him down.

wendydk: The Palin investigation was about whether she abused her powers in firing Monegan. THE REPORT FOUND:

"I find that, although Walt Monegan's refusal to fire Trooper Michael Wooten was not the sole reason he was fired by Governor Sarah Palin, it was likely a contributing factor to his termination as Commissioner of Public Safety. IN SPITE OF THAT, GOVERNOR PALIN'S FIRING OF COMMISSIONER MONEGAN WAS A PROPER AND LAWFUL EXERCISE OF HER CONSTITUTIONAL AND STATUTORY AUTHORITY TO HIRE AND FIRE EXECUTIVE BRANCH DEPARTMENT HEADS." (Report at 8, emphasis added).

Once that finding was made, the remaining findings, placed out of order for clearly political reasons, are nothing more than a fishing expedition , or rather, investigator Sen. Hollis French's promised "October Surprise." ,

Just so that we're clear, NowForTheSee-throughLie, here's some reading material you may find infuriating...

      * ???For the reasons explained in section IV of this report, I find that Governor Sarah Palin Abused her power by violating Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act.??? [Branchflower Report to the Alaska Legislative Council, Page 8]

      * ???Compliance with the code of ethics is not optional....???The evidence supports the conclusion that Governor Palin, at the least, engaged in ???official action??? by her inaction if not her active participation or assistance to her husband in attempting to get Trooper Wooten fired [and there is evidence of her active participation. [Branchflower Report to the Alaska Legislative Council, p 65-6]

      * She knowingly, as that term is defined in the above cited statutes, permitted Todd Palin to use the Governor???s office and the resources of the Governor???s office, including access to state employees, to continue to contact subordinate state employees in an effort to find some way to get Trooper Wooten fired. Her conduct violated AS 39.52.110(a) of the Ethics Act.??? [Branchflower Report to the Alaska Legislative Council, p 65-6]

      * ???Governor Palin knowingly permitted a situation to continue where impermissible pressure was placed on several subordinates in order to advance a personal agenda.??? [Branchflower Report to the Alaska Legislative Council, p 66]

      * ???In this case, Governor Palin has declined to provide an interview. An interview would have assisted everyone to better understand her motives and perhaps help explain why she was so apparently intent upon g Trooper Wooten fired in spite of the fact she knew he had been disciplined following the Administrative Investigation.??? [Branchflower Report to the Alaska Legislative Council, p 66]

      * ???Governor Palin has stated publically that she and her family feared Trooper Wooten. Yet the evidence presented has been inconsistent with such claims of fear.??? [Branchflower Report to the Alaska Legislative Council, p 67]

      * ???Finally, it is noteworthy that in almost every contact with subordinate employees, Mr. Palin???s comments were couched in terms of his desire to see Trooper Wooten fired for reasons that had nothing to do with fear.??? [Branchflower Report to the Alaska Legislative Council, p 67]

      * ???I conclude that such claims of fear were not bona fide and were offered to provide cover for the Palin???s real motivation: to get Trooper Wooten fired for personal family related reasons. [Branchflower Report to the Alaska Legislative Council, p 67]

You can post this rubbish as many times as you want, NowForTheLatestRepublicanLie, but your lipstick-wearing-pig still violated Alaska's ethics statute. Maybe you should try reading the report, or just having a slightly more intellectually-honest friend read you the salient parts. Start with finding number one. It's right at the beginning. You'll still have time to watch Palin getting booed at the Flyers game on your evening news.

Nowfortheobfuscation, are you dense or purposefully trying to play a version of sleight of hand? The purpose of the Troopergate investigation was never to determine whether she abused her powers in firing Monegan. He's an at-will employee who serves at the Governor's pleasure. Nice try. From now on, get your news from someplace other than Fox.

The purpose of the investigation was clearly whether she abused her powers by PRESSURING SUBORDINATE STAFF to fire HER EX-BROTHER-IN-LAW, who is not an at-will employee (he's a union man). Newsflash, she DID abuse her power. Sorry for the interruption. You may now return to whatever Hannity and O'Reilly are screaming about on Faux Noise.

As Bill Parcells said, "you are what your record says you are." Schmidt has zero credibility (attacking the NYT? come on...) and even less in the way of moral scruples. I would like to believe that he's a decent guy (his sister is gay, his speech to the Log Cabin Republicans), but then I have to remind myself of a few catchphrases from this campaign -- to wit, "comprehensive sex ed for kindergarteners," "unrepentant domestic terrorist," and "the one" (sic, not 'that one"). I can't wait until Nov. 4 when this KARL ROVE PROTEGE crawls back down the rathole with Nicolle Wallace and the rest of their ilk.

If i agree with nothing ese from this man, i can echo his words in the last sentence of the article. I think everyone is mercifully counting down the days until this is over. Its been so long, and we've been through so much of the garbage, and Americans just want this to end already. Nearly two years, i repeat, two years. They've been campaigning for two years in a quest for a four year job; i hope the obserdity of that is not lost on all of you.

Only Obama and Hillary were battleing for most of the two years. batteling to see who would wage the DNC's Americans Suck Campaign from the oval office like bill Clinton did!
Hillary tried to count on her name and white house 'experience"...Obama has counted on ACORN.
The clash of GOP and DNC rivals has only been a short while.

If Steve Schmidt doesn't want to be called Karl Rove, he should maybe stop acting like him. It wouldn't be hard. People are calling him a Rovian deciple because that is the way he's acting. It's no wonder that what people think, this is the same kind of devisive politics that Rove loves. There is nothing good that can come out of this for the country and they all know it and they don't care. Country First my butt. They should stop using those signs. "McCain first Country whatever "should be the new signs. Advocating and environment of violence in a country with as sad a political past as we have should make both of those men ashamed.

A few years ago; perhaps in early 2006, I had the opportunity to have a short conversation with Mr. Steve Schmidt at a Republican gathering in Dallas. After conversing with this gentleman for nearly three or four minutes, I noticed that he lacked a proper education where not only Economics and Politics werre concerned, but also of basic History and Geography. At that time he claimed that before the end of the Presidential term of George Bush....(Jan 2009), the U.S. Economy would be an envy of the world and that thre common US citizen would not only live in oppulence but that there would be further abundance of everything! I sttempted to reflect the prevailing Socio-Economic hardships in the country through an academic window. "You know nothin' yet, there ain't no economic problem I know of. The President has already fixed 'em' all!" That was the moment when I deduced that he was not academic nor did he have a realistic approach to developments.

I casually asked him of his opinion about the Indo-European nations of the world! He immediately answered: "Well we have some six or seven million of 'them' folks around here. You mean those guys who are Native-Indians mixed with us Europeans?"

I then asked him as to whether he "categorized" himself as a "Caucasian?" He replied: "Yep that's me!"
I immediately asked him (feigning ignorance) if he could educate me to know as to where is Caucasia and if he ever had any remaining family members there. (By this moment he was reflecting anger at being ignorant but pretended to maintain calm and gave a grin). "I think Caucasia is somewhere near to Ireland!!!"

If ignoarance and arrogance has to be attributed to the right person, I firmly believe Mr. Steve Schmidt should be awarded "Oscar in Ignorance" for that.

If someone meets Mr. Scmidt next time, the question should be..."What is the religion of Buddhist Monks?"

    Sincerely,

Hum, tell Steve and Karl they sure make intelligent Americans not proud to be one. This is the most racist thing going on I've seen in a 50 years. It's terrible. Maybe the MSM should just stop covering their campaign because they are too STUPID to realize they are dragging this country down. The only people you see are the poor white people/racists who are scared to death and that's the only thing they are smart at, intimidating their own poor base group. IT"S SAD, but hopefully American has grown and they will get a stern message back. We know you want to be rich, but you screwed it up now live with it.
