PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE TO BE HELD SUNDAY AT COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY
The Free and Equal Elections Coalition (FREE) and the Columbia Political Union are pleased to announce that a Presidential debate will be held this coming Sunday, October 19th, 2008, on the campus of Columbia University.
ALL SIX of the Presidential candidates who appear on enough state ballots to acquire the 270 Electoral Votes needed to become President are invited. They are as follows (listed in alphabetical order by affiliation):
Constitution Party Candidate: Chuck Baldwin
Democratic Party Candidate: Barack Obama
Green Party Candidate: Cynthia McKinney
Independent Candidate: Ralph Nader
Libertarian Party Candidate: Bob Barr
Republican Party Can John McCain
The Columbia Political Union will present the debate from 8:00pm to 10:00pm in the Altschul Auditorium, located at 417 International Affairs Building. The debate will be moderated by Pacifica Radio's Amy Goodman, the host of "Democracy Now!". CSPAN will cover the debate, and live radio broadcasts are expected.
"The Columbia Political Union is committed to energizing political discourse on Columbia's campus," said Allon Brann, Columbia Political Union Publisher. "As a non-partisan organization, we work to provide students with opportunities to encounter and engage with political ideas across a wide ideological spectrum, and on a wide range of issues."
"It is with these goals in mind that we have organized this Presidential Debate: to give all candidates-- either within or outside of the political "mainstream"-- the opportunity to speak directly to students about their goals on the issues they deem critical for this country."
"We have invited all eligible candidates, and it is our sincere hope that all will participate, to ensure the substance and rigor of the dialogue which we believe is crucial at this time."
Certified letters officially inviting each candidate have been sent to the respective campaigns.
The Free and Equal Elections Coalition and the Columbia Political Union await the response from the candidates. All candidates' supporters are encouraged to contact the Presidential campaigns and urge them to attend.
The Columbia Political Union seeks to enhance involvement in the political process, domestic and international, and draw every member of the campus community into an ongoing discussion of political ideas.

Rolling the Dice on Derivatives - The Nader Page
The derivatives markets of today have become a high stakes casino of unimaginable magnitude. Wall Street???s bets have gone bad, and now the whole financial system is in peril. In a best-case scenario, it appears, the taxpayers will be required to rescue the system from itself. This is why Warren Buffett labeled derivatives ???weapons of financial mass destruction.???
Amazingly, there seems to be some lingering sense that current-day derivatives properly perform an insurance function.
Case in point: Alan Greenspan, the former Federal Reserve Chairman. Greenspan says the world is facing ???the type of wrenching financial crisis that comes along only once in a century,??? but, reports the New York Times, ???his faith in derivatives remains unshaken.??? Greenspan believes that the problem is not with derivatives, but that the people using them got greedy, according to the Times.
This is quite a view. Is it a surprise to Alan Greenspan that the people on Wall Street ??? said to be ruled only by the opposing instincts of greed and fear ??? ???got greedy????

Good plan, make sure everyone only votes on Novemeber 4th, so republicans can send faulty voter machines to known pro-Barack areas, or intimidate people so they will turn away and not vote.
Democrats and voting rights groups insist that hundreds of thousands of legitimate voters, many of them poor, black or Hispanic, could lose the chance to cast a ballot.
They say those groups will be the main victims of massive and improper purges of voting lists in many states, as part of a Republican campaign to challenge Democratic voters on Election Day.
Things are getting especially ugly in the key swing states.
Meanwhile, Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner, a Democrat, has been locked in several court battles with that state's Republican Party over her interpretation of election law.
In an interview Thursday, Brunner praised ACORN's leaders in her state and said the warnings by local Republicans of significant voter fraud were simply "unfounded."
During the past four years, Brunner said, Ohio has had only "four individual cases [of voter fraud], with nearly 8 million registered voters, and one of those was a husband and wife."

Both Democratic and Republican political activists have traditionally assisted elderly or homebound voters who need help in voting, said attorney J. Gerald Hebert, executive director of the Washington-based Campaign Legal Center, who plans to file the lawsuit on behalf of Democrats.
"Now, merely possessing the mail-in ballot of another person is a misdemeanor. If you do it for several voters, it becomes a felony. It is my view that this is unconstitutional," said Hebert, who headed the Justice Department's voting section of the civil rights division until 1994.
Democrats also complain that of the 13 indicted individuals, 12 are minority women and only one is an Anglo male. Moreover, Abbott's voter fraud indictments include zero Republicans.
"I think it's evident that Abbott's practice of singling out minorities and seniors is a shallow political effort to suppress the votes," said Texas Democratic Party spokeswoman Amber Moon. "It's being done disingenuously. The majority of these cases are well-meaning folks who are simply trying to help their neighbors to vote."

Whether McCain won or lost is not relevant. He succeeded in the first half hour to plant the seeds of a Reagan style wipeout. Reputable historians and economists overwhelmingly agree that the taxation imposed by and the "stimulus" spending and public works programs of FDR actually deepened and prolonged the Great Depression. See e.g. http://newsroom.ucla.edu/portal/ucla/FDR-s-Policies-Prolonged-Depression-5409.aspx. It was the production demands of WWII that got the economy going again. And when the war was over, the economy promptly went into recession.
Point is, Obama's programs are tax and spend, and it does not really matter who he taxes, those taxes are going to be passed through the economy. Any first year economics student knows that taxation is a tool used to contract an economy experiencing inflation, because it reduces demand by reducing the amount of money individuals and businesses have to spend. It is contractionary, which is exactly what you do not want to do when the problem is that the economy is contracting already into recession. Like FDR, Obama's plans will only make it worse for longer.
Similarly, who ???Joe the plumber??? is is not the issue. The issue is what Obama???s comments to him revealed. In the exchange with "Joe the plumber" we find out that Obama really is as radical as his early political acquaintances, and that he is into the failed economic policy of wealth redistribution. Obama's tax and spending plans alone would be bad enough, but add Reid and Pelosi to the mix, with the three of them controlling both houses of Congress and the executive without and effective restraint, and you have something that should be something that causes concern even among moderate Democrats. Consider the fact that, as the Brennan Center reported recently, "[E]lection officials across the country are routinely striking millions of voters from the rolls through a process that is shrouded in secrecy, prone to error, and vulnerable to manipulation." Consider the recent New York Times review of state records and Social Security records, which concluded that "[t]ens of thousands of eligible voters in at least six swing states have been removed from the rolls or have been blocked from registering in ways that appear to violate federal law." Consider the case, now on appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, in which 200,000 new Ohio voters stand to be bounced off the rolls because, through no fault of their own, their names don't match error-riddled state databases. Consider the indictment this week of former Republican official James Tobin for his 2002 role in jamming Democratic get-out-the-vote calls. Consider the much-ballyhooed Republican challenge to the eligibility of 6,000 Native American and student voters in Montana that backfired first in court, then with the abrupt resignation this week of the official who spearheaded the effort.

In recent weeks, Democrats including Harry Reid, Dick Durbin and Barbara Boxer have all sounded the alarm about John McCain's decidedly unpresidential temperament. But it was Mitt Romney, the man who almost became the Republican vice presidential nominee, who offered the most ominous warnings to Americans that John McCain's dangerously out-of-control temper made him unfit for command.

In addition to the Cornyn, Grassley and Domenici episodes, the Romney list features some comparatively minor McCain blow-ups towards Dick Cheney, Mitch McConnell and other leading lights of the GOP. Mitt Romney isn't the only Republican who's fretting about John McCain's finger being on the nuclear button. As Jon Hinz, the Arizona Republican Party executive director during McCain's 1986 Senate run, put it:

Yet the public feels Barack soundly defeated the 26 year experienced senator in EVERY presidential debate, when (because he owns an American Hearts Express POW card) should have defeated him.
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney???s campaign accused Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee of ???a backroom deal??? that gave the early Super Tuesday win in West Virginia to Huckabee.
Unfortunately, this is what Senator McCain???s inside Washington ways look like: he cut a backroom deal with the tax-and-spend candidate he thought could best stop Governor Romney???s campaign of conservative change,??? Beth Myers, Romney???s campaign manager, said in a statement.

Obama's view of the future of America - Socialism which is the next step to Communism!!
Under socialism a ruling class of intellectuals, bureaucrats and social planners decide what people want or what is good for society and then use the coercive power of the State to regulate, tax, and redistribute the wealth of those who work for a living. In other words, socialism is a form of legalized theft.
The morality of socialism can be summed-up in two words: envy and self-sacrifice. Envy is the desire to not only possess another's wealth but also the desire to see another's wealth lowered to the level of one's own. Socialism's teaching on self-sacrifice was nicely summarized by two of its greatest defenders, Hermann Goering and Bennito Mussolini. The highest principle of Nazism (National Socialism), said Goering, is: "Common good comes before private good." Fascism, said
Mussolini, is "a life in which the individual, through the sacrifice of his own private interests??realizes that completely spiritual existence in which his value as a man lies."
Socialism is the social system which institutionalizes envy and self-sacrifice: It is the social system which uses compulsion and the organized violence of the State to expropriate wealth from the producer class for its redistribution to the parasitical class.
Despite the intellectuals' psychotic hatred of capitalism, it is the only moral and just social system.
Capitalism is the only moral system because it requires human beings to deal with one another as traders--that is, as free moral agents trading and selling goods and services on the basis of mutual consent.
Capitalism is the only just system because the sole criterion that determines the value of thing exchanged is the free, voluntary, universal judgement of the consumer. Coercion and fraud are anathema to the free-market system.
It is both moral and just because the degree to which man rises or falls in society is determined by the degree to which he uses his mind. Capitalism is the only social system that rewards merit, ability and achievement, regardless of one's birth or station in life.
Yes, there are winners and losers in capitalism. The winners are those who are honest, industrious, thoughtful, prudent, frugal, responsible, disciplined, and efficient. The losers are those who are shiftless, lazy, imprudent, extravagant, negligent, impractical, and inefficient. You are only scaring yourself, I understand you want to wish for the best but prepare for the worse but you are getting yourself sick for nothing. The only thing you didn't add was that the world was ending in Jan 2009 if Barack wins.

It takes a trip overseas to fully appreciate just how good Americans have it.
Even our poor take for granted goods and services ??? electricity, clean water, indoor plumbing, telephones, televisions, and household appliances ??? that are still unattainable for most of the world.
America may have been blessed with some of the planet???s best real estate, but clearly it???s not just our natural resources that account for our economic success.

1. Obama told a crowd in Elko, Nevada,"I need you to go out and talk to your friends and neighbors. I want you to argue with them and get in their face." IS THIS ACCEPTABLE TO YOU? DIRTY POLITICS!
2. When Stanley Kurtz began researching Obama's ties with terrorist William Ayers, the papers in the Richard J. Daley Library in Chicago were at first closed off to him for several days, apparently at the bequest of Nobama supporters. When Kurtz was appearing as a guest of Milt Rosenberg's radio show, Obama's supporters were ALERTED by campaign email and jammed the radio station (WGN) phone lines and sent in hundreds of protest emails.IS THIS ACCEPTABLE TO YOU? What happened to free speech? DIRTY POLITICS!
3. Last month, St.Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce warned citizens that they would bring libel prosecution against anyone who made "false" statements against Obama. What happened to free speech? DIRTY POLITICS!
4. Similarly, the Obama camp called for a criminal probe of the American Issues Project when it linked Obama to Ayers. DIRTY POLITICS!
5. Saturday Night Live ran a spoof of the fininacial crisis that skewered Democratics like House Chairman Barney Frank. The tape disappeared from NBC's Web site and was replaced with another that omitted the reference to Frank.
6. Obama sent 31 of his hired employees to Alaska to ASSIST in the Troopergate investigation? WHAT WAS HE THINKING? Just more dirty politics to try and dig up dirt on Sarah Pallin? DIRTY POLITICS!
IS AMERICA NO LONGER THE LAND OF THE FREE?

Ok everyone is up in arms about the Ayers guy, but has anyone taken notice that these were either charity organizations or community service affiliations they served in? And this is what everyone is mad about Obama being a part of? Can anyone point to either McCain or Palin even participating in anything that gives to the community.
Obama won my vote with his ingenious idea of community service to help pay for college. I was a starving college kid with absolutely no help from my family and dependant solely on my minimum wage on-campus janitorial job, pel grant and student loans. If this kind of self-help visionary program was available then, you can rest assured I would have jumped on it.
McCain can try and paint Obama however he wants but one thing is clear: McCain will only serve himself and every other rich admiral's kid he knows. Palin is a liar and a fanatical. She wants to pretend she's like your regular American but I can tell you every regular American isn't making $1 million a year, not to mention all the perks she has abused while in office.
I'm not buying this McCain campaign turn. And any last chances of me switching my vote were gone watching all those ill bred racist chanting KKK garbage while Palin just relished he 30 second spotlight. How degenerate. We didn't fight the civil rights movement so that some ignorant Republicans can undo what took us generations to overcome.-

A famous study by The Institute of Racial Behavior shows that people that are prejudiced like Holy Roler are nine times out of ten, very SHORT in the MEAT Department. This accounts for their Fear of anyone who is not Short in that area. Erectile Dysfunction accounts for the more aggressive Bigot. These are Facts you can look up. . Not really knowing what a McCain fan is, but wanting to be liked by the teacher, all the kids raised their hands, except for Little Johnny.
