People who don't think things are better in the US than almost anywhere else in the whole world ... haven't been anywhere else. Americans are terribly undertravelled. I'd rather live here when we're at our worst than live anywhere else, period.

Plus the media's been telling us we're in a disaster, so more and more of us are wondering if we are.

Oh really - b/c have you encountered the other 90%? I would side with that the 10% tend to be more correct. Just a thought!

  • Posted By: SteveFromMO @ 10/14/2008 9:44:54 PM

The answer is simple. Ten percent of the people are nuts.

mcham1011, Just think of how much better our "greatest country on the face of the Earth" would be if we hadn't been decimated by incompetent and immoral 'leadership' the past 16 years (and some would say even further back than that). And BTW, there is an enormous number of people, millions and millions in fact, that do not agree that the USA is "the greatest". It sure hasn't lived up to its ideals lately.

    And BTW, there

WOW...When you believe the Americans Suck First campaign waged by the news media and the DNC in concert with the Obama campaign, you just gotta raise pathetic points against those who knopw the Americans Suck First is a campaign of lies and discrimination campaigns!
America is a fantastic country! It will be in the future!
There's a ten percent who are actually happy with the idiotic preformence of the congress under DNC majority control. And if you tell them america don't suck, they get upset!
America is a great country! A fantastic country! because Americans live here!

  • Posted By: Glenno @ 10/14/2008 8:36:25 PM

Why keep voting then for the same people?
People are upset because US power is declinging, power= political, financial & military.

America started a war with Afghanistan and Iraq, and now provocing new wars with Pakistan and Iran. Military is extended as much as an aggressive empire can.

The financial power is gone as the empire has been run on chinese, japanese and russian money.

Political influence is to a all time low because any foreign leader that supports US gets voted out, therefore only dictators stay loyal to America.

Sounds to me like janiemc24 has been joining the "anonymous" bar patron and maybe should think before she posts. As someone who works for a company dealing with people who are calling up to cancel their credit cards and talks to people throughout America on a daily basis, my feeling is that yes the economy is doing terribly however much of what people are doing and feeling is from fear and they are panicking which is making every situation worse. Even though I am not one of the 10%, I feel the economy will rebound and that everything isn't as horrible as it seems.

  • Posted By: judymccrum @ 10/14/2008 6:56:20 PM

And what does McPalin know? You betcha and I voted for the war in Iraq. God help us all.

  • Posted By: mcham1011 @ 10/14/2008 6:53:39 PM

I am also one of the 10% satisfied! We are part of the greatest country on earth. Our president will always be the most powerful person in the world. Just look at how many people want to come into our country and how few want to leave. My core values is what satisfies me about our country; I don't vote because the economy is up or down. I don't vote because we are at war or peace. I vote to protect my core values, my freedom of speech.

  • Posted By: janiemc24 @ 10/14/2008 6:42:21 PM

well i'm one of the 10 there Steve...if you think its bad now than you just better hope and pray that Nobama gets in there...funny that people would vote for some on base on their color......and not for what he knows or even will do......

The so called elite that care more for themselves than the rest of humanity are a plague upon the universe ,and need to be schooled and retooled ! Please , don't give these people any creedence. They are like uneducated babies, except they should know better , and poop in everyone's diaper not just their own!

  • Posted By: cleoj @ 10/14/2008 3:59:24 PM

Gosh, election time really does bring out the worst in people, doesn't it? I think the 10% who are happy and satisfied are those on this board who are not attacking other people because of their religion, political affiliation or wealth.

I'm more or less in the middle. I think the country is going to get a lot worse before it gets better, and thus, I do not think everything is A-OK. However, I am relatively satisfied with the way my own life is going. I make less than what is considered "middle class" and my husband just lost his job because his employer went under. However, we live within our means and that's just fine. We don't eat out a lot, I don't spend extravagantly on clothes, shoes, etc. So, yes, I am happy and satisfied. When my husband gets another job, I'll be even more happy and satisfied!

The last time we elected a president for "change", we had Jimmy Carter for four years. We're still suffering in his post-presidency.

Some people only watch Fox news. What can you expect???

  • Posted By: NotFoxed @ 10/14/2008 3:27:14 PM

Some may only watch Fox news:: Believe it or not...

  • Posted By: Rational Poster @ 10/14/2008 2:46:56 PM

I am not happy with the direction of the economy right now, but to say "disatisfied" implies that I think someone (government) should do something different. I think free enterprise works just fine and I believe our country's stance on most issues is the correct one.

    Count me in the 10%.

I lived in a foxhole for six months, picked sand out of my nose, my a## and every other place that you can imagine. I look in the mirror every morning, and I still see the bits of shrapnel that dot my forehead. I still believe in my President. I still believe in my Country. And I still believe in Myself. I know that I have value, that I create value, and that Wall Street can't put a price on it. I'm not waiting on a bailout.-and that's why I believe everything is A-OK!

    • Posted By: Mimi13 @ 10/11/2008 10:40:33 PM

"And I still believe in Myself. I know that I have value, that I create value, and that Wall Street can't put a price on it"

This is a very strong statement. Inspirational even. It should be a model for young people who are still building their lives. BUT, for us older people who thought we had built something that would last into our retirements -- only to see it slip away through no fault of our own -- well, it's not as easy to feel inspirational. America will survive and prosper, I believe, and it will be stronger than ever. The economy will come back. over time. But, for some of us, there isn't the time to rebuild. That's the scary part.

      • Posted By: jdwesquire @ 10/14/2008 2:00:35 PM

We are all affected. But how you look at it is a matter of perspective. For all the fear mongering out there, and all of the bad things that we might imagine, we aren't facing a civil war, genocide, mass starvation, or rampant disease--all of which are realities that exist right now in other parts of the world. Most of the world would love to have the problems that we do as Americans. Things might be uncomfortable. for awhile. For some of us, it might be downright painful. But, as my first sargeant used to say, "Pain is just the weakness leaving your body." And if all of this starts getting to be too much, turn off the t.v., turn off the computer, and go for a walk. If nothing else, you'll be better for the walk.

My goodness, you are a real ***! Did mommy & daddy pay for your tuition, books, condo, etc.?
You are exactly what is wrong with America. I have worked hard all of my life -12-15 hour days. Just because you are a little snot-nosed kid, doesn't make you better than me. I agree, those that can work, should work, if there are jobs available. I will tell you, little ***, I am 54, and unemployed - I can't even get a job at Wal-Mart, or delivering newspapers. I am "too qualified". I couldn't agree more, when I was employed, and making good money, I felt the same as you. Think about "big shot, spelled with an "i")

If you have a good paying job in a growth industry and not much invested in the stock market then why would you not be satisfied at this point in time. Hearing about others on a website or on the news is not going to change that, the truth is in bad times and good people always have to adjust when losing a job ect.
Gas prices are coming down and americans still have lots of disposable income. I think people are very spoiled and if they cant have it all they complain, I'm happy with just some, A house, A car, A good paying job and a family. The government has nothing to offer people but higher taxes and more overspending on stupid things, How does taking taxes from some and giving to others spur economic growth, ?
It doesnt, its welfare so people at the bottom who made bad decisions in life can have a cell phone, Flat scree tv and fat kids

    Thanx

I find the comment about Obama very revealing- " He can't just go willy nilly and do whatever he might want. He's got to have the support of Congress's two houses." Is that why we are in the shape we are in with George Bush? Did those same rules apply to him? He needed the support of Congress to make a change and remember that the Democrats have been in control of both for the last two years. Everyone needs to stop believing that the Government owes them anything. Take care of your own!

  • Posted By: emtyn1 @ 10/12/2008 10:33:20 PM

I don't know. I think these people are just nuts. I live in Midlothian, Virginia and the neighborhood is dotted with McCain signs. Very few Obama signs are here and they have to be monitored or protected. They tend to disappear or get knocked over at night. They listen to Sarah Palin in a debate and see brillance, while I see assinine answers and no answers. They blame the Democrats for the country's problems, while the Dems haven't had enough of a majority to really do anything. They think Saddam Hussein caused 9/11. They are basically too rich to be worried about anything or too dumb to know anything or too racist to accept the idea of a black man leading this country in the future. They have to be dumb. They think Obama can give this country to the Muslims. Obama is Christian; however, if he WERE a Muslim, we have something in this country called Checks and Balances. He can't just go willy nilly and do whatever he might want. He's got to have the support of Congress's two houses. Change is needed, but even Obama will have to pick his battles judiciously. He won't be able to do all that he might like. The country is not going to change on a dime. However, the country is heading off the cliff on the right and we need to head back to the middle.

Interesting your comment about Obama - "He can't just go willy nilly and do whatever he might want. He's got to have the support of Congress's two houses." Do you think that the same thing could be said of George Bush and his administration? By the way, who has controlled Congress for the last two years?
