I call myself a Demopublican and not an independent because i share certain fundamental values from both camps. One of the things i find interesting is the constant backlash against President Bush for apparently being the worst president the US has had, clearing shown by his approval ratings of a little over 20%.
No one knows if Gore, Kerry , Obama or McCain would have acted differently had any of them been president 01-08. What happened on 9/11 was unprecedented, and whatever decisions President Bush made were obviously not made solely. The piglet asked his mum, "why is your nose so huge" the mum's response was, "you will find out the answer when you grow up". My point is this, give President Bush a break, he's had to make some tough decisions in very tough times and his only flaw is that he's remained human just like the rest of . To Obama/Biden and McCain/Palin, I hope you make the right decisions everytime and at all times if you do make it to the white house.

About 10% of the population of the population inherited their money tax free, never work, use lots of drugs and let the rest of us do the worrying

IF GEORGE BUSH DOESN'T GO TO JAIL THE IDEA OF AMERICA HAS FAILED. WE SHOULD ALL BE ASHAMED OF GEORGE BUSH FOR ALLOWING HIM TO REPRESENT US. ALL THE PEOPLE WHO VOTED FOR HIM IN 2004 SHOULD NEVER BE ALLOWED TO VOTE AGAIN BECAUSE ALL OF THE ONES I TALKED TO SAID THEY VOTED FOR HIM BECAUSE HE COULDN'T MAKE IT ANY WORSE FOR AMERICANS. WELL I WOULD LIKE TO ASK THEM THAT QUESTION NOW. I BET THEY WOULD HAVE A DIFFERENT RESPONSE.

  • Posted By: ELGUAPO1977 @ 10/13/2008 12:57:13 PM

GEORGE BUSH WILL GO TO JAIL EVENTUALLY, OR I WILL DIE TRYING .TO JEAN123 YOU REALLY THINK GEORGE BUSH MADE THE RIGHT DECISION ON ANYTHING? I DON'T THINK SO. EVERYONE WHO VOTED FOR GEORGE BUSH IN 2004 HAS JUST A SMUCH BLOOD ON THEIR HANDS AS EVERYONE ELSE WHO PERPETRATED THIS WAR. WHEN I TALKED TO PEOPLE IN 2004 AND ASKED THEM WHY THEY VOTED FOR BUSH THEY TOLD ME "WELL HE CAN'T MAKE IT ANY WORSE". I THINK ALL THOSE PEOPLE SHOULD NEVER BE ALLOWED TO VOTE AGAIN.

Angry convervative posters: Do me, yourself and the GOP Party a favor: Put just half the effort that you put into bashing Obama and the Democrats into praising the real values of the Republican Party and it's ticket if you want to get McCain elected. All of this peurile and acrimonious name calling and outright antagonization is not helping our cause, makes the conservative base look childish, unintelligent, frightened and self serving. It turns off Independent voters and so basically serves the Dem's interests. I'm sure you are venting, but it's NOT helping us.

Optimism can be used a reason for inaction. Things will straighten themselves out without a need to change anything or for me to even think about it.
As long as things are OK for themselves, why should they worry about what is happening to their fellow citizens or those in other parts of the world.

I can be optimistic without being satisfied with the performance of the Government or the behaviour of the executives of our financial institutions. Optimism can be used as an excuse for inaction. Things will straighten themselves out without my having to do anything. As long as I'm doing OK, why should I worry about the nation (or the world) as a whole ?

The 10% of Americans that think we are on the right track? Gee, I thought Oprahma had more support than that. Good thing I landed on this page and my eyes have been opened.

Maybe the idiot is the author. Maybe some people see a majority of Americans living a life style that only millionaires lived during the 1950's. Maybe some people only focus on their own neighborhood where there is plenty of healthy food available, people are safe to go about their business, and their homes are comfortable. Maybe some people don't woryr about the future but live in the moment. Whatever the reason, people deserve respect even if they have opinions that differ from ours. Yes the idiot is the author.

This continues to amaze me. Not that this all happened, but that even the news outlets are out there stirring the proverbial pot, trying to create more hate and discontent. If it wasn't for the gloom and doom being pushed in our faces nonstop, we wouldn't have half the market decline we saw last week. People are by-and-large stupid. They're willing to believe anything, and the havoc and chaos is to be expected with the constant barrage of media on this topic.

I am riding this out just fine. I must be among the handful of Americans who understands that no money is ever safe in the stock market, and so I keep my investments in CD's and even regular ol' savings accounts. But thanks to everyone else losing their shirts and frantically trying to sell sell sell, I'm almost willing to jump into stocks about now. Everyone assumes they're entitled to being wealthy, and part of the problem in this country is that a lot of people who won't EVER be, think they can LIVE as if they are. Really people, I understand there were a lot of forces at work contributing to the housing market balloon, but when you're still making the same $40k income you've been making for the past 5 years, a $250k mortgage probably isn't quite right for you, I don't care what the numbers look like.

This all comes down to lack of common sense, and I know we can't blame it all on our school system as many want to do as well. I'm a public school educated man in my late 20's, I worked 6 years in the military after HS, and am still working toward a degree. I've never had problems finding or keeping work, and every opportunity I've had I worked to get. I've had a job for the past 4 years making over $80k/year, and my only indulgence in life is a new Harley-Davidson, paid for in cash. I still drive my 10 year old Nissan Sentra which gets about 40 mpg and has been paid for for 8 years. I live in a modest inner-city house, and I don't take vacations. And why do I do all this? Because as long as it takes to actually save money, it really doesn't go very far when you consider buying all the things everyone things is a requirement to live; new LCD TV, new cars every few years, vacations, video games, etc.

People, we do work hard for our money. The fact that so many are so stupid to throw it away so quickly is no one's fault but our own.

Things aren't just fine; I have no debt, I can easily pay my mortgage on time, and yet my taxes are going up while my 401(k) goes down because of greed and stupidity from both lenders and borrowers?

Amazing. I don't mean about the 10%. I mean about how we seem hell bent on blaming anyone and anything but ourselves. The first mistake we made was to get ourselves involved in other people's personal lives and overlook the evil done in our name. Have we forgotten everything about the Reagan years and the rediculous trust we put in corporate self-governance?

And ourselves. Who, other than Palin (and now a bit of Obama) is pointing a finger at our own recklessness? My father, a Depression Era family man, taught me one invaluable lesson that has always kept me rather economically safe in hard times---stay out of debt. "Buy only what you need, avoid debt whenever possible, save in order to avoid debt, never try to live beyond your means, and when you want to buy something because the Joneses have it, ask yourself "Is this like a hog buying a television?"

In short, we danced with devil self-indulgent consumerism. Now there'll be hell to pay.

In the words of the first Republican US president:

Only 10% of Americans think that the country is heading in the right direction? Well this doesn't surprise me! Considering that the media are ones that set the national norm. It could be a nice summer day outside and someone in the media would come along and say "Hey People! There's a blizzard outside with a wind chill of 30 degrees below!" and the bulk of the country would believe them instead of sticking their heads out a door or window. Its no wonder that fear is such a powerful commodity these days. If everyone would just try and look a little closer at the facts they would see that newspaper's and magazines use fear often enough to increase their sales. DO NOT FORGET THAT THEY ARE A BUISNESS ALSO! No one bothers to check on the facts. Every citizen has to remember that the media are NOT the say all and be all of every day life here in America.

I think what's being greatly underestimated is the place hard-core religious fundamentalism plays into the figure. A great many supporters of G.W. Bush believe he represents their religion within the state, and thus there is almost nothing he can do, short of supporting Rowe V Wade, to lose their support. That makes by default almost any path he chooses the right path. Reason has no affect on such deeply held emotional beliefs. No crisis will either. As such, the economy, for some, is almost irrelevant, regardless of one???s own personal suffering, as long as progress is being made with the union of church and state. I personally am very much, as per the wisdom of our Constitution???s authors, pro separation of church and state. Freedom cannot stand without it. Some, however, feel downright deeply emotional about their religion???s place in the state. Allow each their views, be respectful, but vote according to your own conscience. For me, I cannot support the current Republican ticket. I love freedom, this country, and what this country???s Constitution stands for way too much. As far as theories of explanation regarding the 10% being the wealthy, or other persons in positions described as well off, etc., I have to disagree. There might be some exceptions, but otherwise???
