The problem,LV,is that these ''idiots''are from ACORN. They are deliberately attempting to engineer the direction of a federal election, and as such,[as we saw in 1996 when the IRS punished several churches for backing Dole from the pulpit in violation of the Separation Clause],must, not should,be subject to federal oversight as they did with the TEAMSTERS after their fraudulent election of president Ron Carey, which was tossed. The FBI has had little to nothing to do with Obama. Rather,it has been under the purview of a singular US Attorneys Generals district office in Chicago, which has been engaged in the laborious investigations of what constitutes the ''Chicago Machine''. Tony Rezko is only one portion of this. Gov. Blagojevich,Allison Davis,Mayor Daley, and the Giangoulla Family are other pieces. What ties they have to Obama remains to be seen.[other than a few actualized ones that include Davis, who was considered for the chairmanship of HUD under an Obama presidency]. As Obama was already dishonest with his ties to Ayers,to Wright and to ACORN,it cannot be taken at face value that he will be able to entirely slip from the grasp of Asst.AG Patrick Fitzgerald.

Concerned Canadian: Is anyone so delusional as to think that the FBI hasn't had a telescope up Obama's *ss for 2 years now? Seriously, if they haven't found it by now......

In regards to ACORN, it is very paranoid to think that Obama donated money to them to specifically assist with voter fraud. Most people don't understand a few key facts.

    1) It is illegal to destroy or throw away a voter registration form. ACORN must submit all forms that have been filled out. So when some idiot goes and sits in the library and fills out their quota for the day, they must submit them to the registrar even if the form says Mickey Mouse.

    2) It is the responsibility of the registrar to determine if a form is fraudulent and then decide if it should be tossed or followed up on for validity. So if the registrar is doing their job, then there is no way these false forms can be honored and therefore affect the election outcome.

KayCee has it right. We've all been so saturated with Obama over the last year that no one can claim that we might not know the real Obama. I'm more concerned with Palin, who I only found out about a few weeks ago. From what little I know about her, she's more suited to be the model for a TV show on Fox Network (knocked up daughter, redneck husband, guns and divorce, you betcha!).

  • Posted By: KayCee @ 10/14/2008 10:48:31 AM

Who is Barack Obama? After 2 years in the presidential race and having his dirty laundry dragged out by Clinton and the GOP, as well as wading through all the lies and distortions, I know him well enough to respect him.

The real question is, after 6 weeks in the race, who the heck is Sarah Palin? Most of what I've heard so far is really disturbing. All pitbull poo and maverick manure. Who on her team thought it was a good idea to give a Joseph Goebbels-inspired speech in Jew-laden Florida, complete with an introduction by a jack-booted storm / state trooper? Oh, that's right. She doesn't know anything about that doggone history stuff. I also have my doubts that she knows the difference between the Federalist Papers or the funny papers. We need our best and brightest in office right now, not Zealot Barbie and the Grumpy Old man.

And don't tell me she's not running for President when she's playing backup to a 73 year-old 4 time cancer survivor.

Indeed, check these out for yourself:

Bill Clinton points to liberal Congressional Democrats' protection of Fannie and Freddie from scrutiny as a primary cause of the current economic meltdown.

To prove Bill Clinton's point, this is a link to a C-SPAN video clip of the Congressional hearings at roughly the time McCains attempt at S.190. to fix fannie and freddie.

ACORN has just completed the largest, most successful nonpartisan voter registration drive in U.S. history. We helped 1.3 million low-income, minority and young voters across the country register to vote.

Unfortunately, just as in 2006, that success in bringing people into the democratic process, have been greeted with unfounded accusations to disparage our work and help maintain the status quo of an unbalanced electorate.

After a similar spate of charges against ACORN in 2006, we learned that then-Attorney General Alberto Gonzales had fired Republican U.S. Attorneys because they refused to prosecute ACORN and other voter assistance groups on trumped up fraud charges. This was the heart of the U.S. Attorney-gate scandal that led Karl Rove, Gonzales and other top Department of Justice officials to resign. Because the press didn???t catch on until long after the election, it was part of a successful strategy to create an unfounded specter of voter fraud and to suppress voting.

Don't worry people, no matter which candidate wins the presidential election, and no matter how much that candidate screws up, this country's scientists, engineers and inventors will fix it. Scientific and technological advancement and innovation are what really keeps the US a superpower.

On another note, I really wish we could put this culture wars stuff behind us and actually talk about stuff that. School Prayer is a none issue, stop talking about it. There is no debate about creationism vs. evolution in science class, evolution wins hands down, stop talking about it. Abortion is here to stay, stop talking about it (Late term abortions are iffy, debate is fine on that minor point). Stem Cell research is non-debatable, comparing a living person to an egg is stupid, stop talking about it.

"Scientific and technological advancement and innovation are what really keeps the US a superpower."

      That and Congress. :^)

Unfortunately, regardless who wins the election, Congress is the organization that really runs the country. So, both candidates can talk reform all they want, but the reality is, once they get to the White House, the game changes, and not necessarily in their favor.

Seriously, is this story anything other than a ham-handed preaching to the choir?

The next story on Newsweek involving Factcheck might read as below:
    Lying about being a democrat.
McCain and Palin have been mischaracterizing Obama as a Democrat when actually Obama transcends partylines and ideological lines (as proven by Factcheck recently). Factcheck found that Obama calls himself a unifier more often than he calls himself a Democrat if ever.
Factcheck thinks that McCain and Palin have been lying through their teeth and should be shut up.

I am no McCain supporter but newsweek WaPo should not really become the FoxNews of the liberals.

  • Posted By: Mimi13 @ 10/13/2008 10:16:42 PM

I think at this point, it would be a lot easier for Factcheck to point out the McCain ads that ARE NOT lies.

the common thread in this election is that almost everything from mcpalin has been a blatent lie. Not distortions, not spin. Just flat out lies. You do have to give half a hand of applause to the legitimate media for calling them on much of this. The latest one is palin saying the report that says she abused hwer power in her only real elected office says that she did not abuse power. That is not spin. That is saying black is white. Up is down. Big is small. Liar liar skirt on fire.

    THE GREAT BUSH DEPRESSION
I follow an economist named Bob Proctor. He has called the top and bottom of every market crash since the 70s correctly.
He perfectly predicted the current meltdown and the picture he paints about what will happen next
is terrifying. He thinks it will be worse then the great depression.
The banks in the U.S. are going under one after the other. Countrywide ,Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers and Merrill Lynch , Fanny and Freddy Mae ,AIG
The government took them over because they are bankrupt. Even with the goverment nationalizing hundreds of billions of dollars in debt the stock market is crashing
the credit markets are frozen and all of us may suffer beyond anything seen in generations
McCain just like Bush " doesn't understand the economy".
That not just my opinion its his own words. Not only does he not understand how to fix it but he does not understand how its been broken.
It is no surprise that he doesn't. The people that make up these securities use quantum mathematical models very few people understand.
Bush and McCain both can take the credit for this mess since they helped deregulate the laws that were protecting us.
Bush's economic advisor Phil Graham wrote the deregulation bill that allowed banks to take huge risks with all of our future.
Now, Phil Graham is the head of McCain's economic policy. He is also McCain's choice for the next secretary of the treasury.
No one in this country can afford for that to happen. The last time Bush met with his economic advisors was in March. He was the last to know somthing was wrong. Phil Graham had the guts to say that we are in a mental recession after he helped create the worst economy meltdown in our lifetime. It will take the best and brightest minds in the world to get us out of this nightmare. As bad as Bush has done, McCain would be
even more destructive because things are in much worse shape. The next president will not inherit a budget surplus like Bush did but a crashing economy and a 11,600,000,000,000 (trillion) dollars deficit. Most of it Bush created and it will take decades to pay it back.
If you do what you have always done then you will get what you have always got.
When it comes to policy Bush and McCain are the same 90 percent of the time.
So why are the polls even close then ?
Mccains team just said they no longer want to talk about the economy.Instead they would like to spend time talking about obama
which means running the biggest smear campaign in history.
They think they can just tell you lies and you wont be smart enough to see through it
Let's teach him we are smarter than that

Well, the fact checker may (emph. on "may") be correct, but the general thrust of the ad is correct. Here are problems with Obama:

-- He does not understand (or hopes we don't) that most small businesses earn more than $250,000/year. Therefore, most "small business" will be subject to higher taxes not lower ones as he has stated.

-- He does not understand (or hopes we don't) that most small buisnesses do not have capital gains? Therefore, he cannot cut capital gains taxes for investment in small buisnesses as he says he will.

-- Obama does not seem to understand if you really stand for tax cuts, you don't vote for higher taxes (including on those earning only $40,000/year) as he has.

-- He does not care or understand that decisions about abortion are at his "pay grade" (to use his words) and he has been reasponsible for helping defeat certain bills that would have supported life, and will be responsible for appointing judges who may take up abortion related cases in court.

-- He does not seem to understand that if the government is already in debt, you don't make it bigger---for several reasons: 1) bigger government increases the tax burden on U.S. citizens and lowers investment and purchasing power, which eventually leads to unemployment, 2) government is terribly inefficient at running anything, 3) even marginally sucessful government program tend to grow, not diminish (point being, Obama can talk about a supplimental program to help people get medical coverage, but the program will undoubtedly grow.

Regarding the "racist" comments: though not a compliment, calling Obama by his full name is not racist. And besides, I am not aware of any exhaustive coverage of Obama's links to William Ayers (et al), or the radical Kenyan presidential cadidate (now Prime Minister), Raila Amollo Odinga for whom Obama apparently helped campaign.

Though John McCain may not be as exciting or clean-cut as you would like, he at least has a better understanding of these issues and he has someone on his ticket who has governing experience (unlike the Democratic ticket).

This is depressing. I used to admire John McCain. I was heartbroken with him when Bush and Rove's despicable campaign tactics stole the Republican nomination from him.
When he got the nod this year, he avowed that he'd run a clean campaign. But now that hes losing, he's embraced the exact same Rovian tactics that he used to deplore! I never imagined this honorable man would compromise his integrity so easily.
Those Ayers ads and accusations are baseless, irrelevant, and destructive.
These new ads are just lies... How can anyone defend them?

If McCain thinks he'd make a better president than Obama, why can't he find an area of substance to attack him on? If McCain believes hes the man for the job, than why the hell is it that exactly 0% of his ads talk about John McCain?

Palin has unleashed a wave of rabid racism that had apparently been repressed until now. John is scrambling to put the genie back in the bottle, but expressing the notion that Obama deserves respect is enough to turn his supporters against him. They want blood. How literally, we don't yet know.

I believe McCain is a good man. But he made a decision to win at any cost, and that cost will include his legacy.

His campaign is setting back civil rights, veterans rights, and women's rights in one felled swoop. The economy is imploding, and John has decided he'd rather make outrageous and dangerous claims about his opponent than address any real issues.

McCain is sinking to levels even Bush stayed above. It sucks. And its difficult to watch. Its like finding out your mom is a whore.

Classic liberalism had more to do with Thomas Jefferson than with non-issues like abortion.
