Here's a factoid; 59% of all doctors according to the AMA are in favor of single payer healthcare. Ralph Nader is the ONLY candidate proposing single-payer healthcare. Fact Aetna charges 38% for administration. Blue Cross/Blue Shield Medicare charges only about 4% administrative cost. Does anyone get the picture here??Check out other issues that are off the table for Obama and McCain at voteNader.org...Who's the real progressive here??

get the lawyers out of the medical profession. Just because something doesn't turn out as you wanted or hoped does ot mean anyone did something wrong. You can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear. We need state medical complaint boards that review and rule on all such filed cases not a bunch of lawyers, emeotional jurers and money hungry clients

How much do you trust that insurance companies are going to be making effort to make sure you have quality coverage (huge CEO salaries with Anthem)? McCain's plan lowers regulation, does not require coverage for pre-existing conditions, and corporations are not required to provide coverage. Seems pretty clear who the real beneficiaries are under that kind of plan.

FactCheck.Org is owned by the Annenberg group of Chicago! Talk about a conflict of interest! And Obama has been telling people on the trail to check out the site to verify his opponents claims. Funny, every time that he endorsed something, it turns out to be a part of his spin machine! Like he raised objections in the primaries when Indiana required photo I.D. to vote. He Protested that It took away people's right to vote! I
knew then and there that he was up to no good! America, wake up from the MASS HYPNOSIS!

I think it is important there are no pre-existing conditions clauses. I have 2 relatives that have been hard working Americans that will have to make job changes. One had a brain tumor and the other has cancer. Due to their illness, they have to change their jobs and has caused them to get new healthcare. One has paid into the health system for almost 50 years the other has been paying into the health system for 15 years. Now, they don't get covereage? That does not seem fair. It could happen to any hard working American. McCain's plan to cut across State lines scares me for people like this because the pre-existing conditions can be denied. That is not fair to Erin or Carrie. The last thing you want to be fighting and stressing about when you are sick is an insurance company or where is the money.

Bull! you are just another Obama Camp employee blogger with your predictable, formula responses that have gotten so transparent and tired. Devoid of any creativity! These are some examples of the typical posts that might come from your nefarious organization:
      "White senior female supporting Obama!"
"Life long Republican, retired Marine, now supporting Obama!"
"Former Neo-Nazi sympathizer who now supports Obama!"
The only line of attack that your camp has had is to say that people don't want more of the last eight years. And attempting to tie McCain to the Bush Administration because he happens to be a member of the same party! Talk about scare tactics! The Obama administration can't offer any solutions or plans that it's administration will do for America because it does not have any! It can only point to the Bush administration and say, " Nobody could be as bad as that guy, so you should vote for me, because I look good by comparison! And since John McCain is a member of the same party as that big bad boogy man Bush, it might remind you of the last eight years!" So, with that logic, you might as well say, " Vote for me because the nightmares of the Bush administration will come back to haunt you otherwise. It does not matter that I could be worse than any president in history. At least I am a fresh new face and I speak well from a teleprompter and look good in a suit. In other words, I am a poster boy president and the sight of me and my charismatic rhetoric will make the world heal and everyone will come together and sing Cumbayah!" God save America! The superficiality of this shallow culture of " American idol-esque" nonsense is just sickening!

Dennis Kucinich does not support a "Canadian-style health plan". He supports H.R. 676, which calls for the expansion of Medicare to cover everyone, paid for with a payroll tax. The whole "socialized medicine" thing is just misinformation. The medical community would remain private, with healthcare benefits being publically funded. Employers would save big not paying for employee group health plans, and the medical community would no longer be forced to absorb some $34 billion a year for unpaid services, since all services would be paid for. Its a win for everyone.

Not exactly correct: "Under HIPAA, the only preexisting conditions that may be excluded under a preexisting condition exclusion are those for which medical advise, diagnosis, care or treatment was recommended or received within the 6-month period before your enrollment date. (Your enrollment date is your first day of coverage, or if there is a waiting period to get into the plan, the first day of the waiting period.)" Close though.

To all of the conservatives out there who think that Obama is a flaming liberal, I would like to remind you of what he did when he was elected President of the Harvard Law Review. The Law Review President gets to name ten individuals to write articles for the Review, and these ten people get to control the content of the publication. All of the minorities and the liberals thought they finally had it made, that Obama would appoint ten left wing editors. Instead, Obama appointed three conservatives, three liberals and four moderates. That year the Law Review was critically acclaimed as the best run and best written Harvard publication in decades.

So when he wins in November, conservatives don't have to freak out. Obama is a centrist and will appoint a balanced cabinet full of active people who will really get things done. Kind of like the way our multi-cultural society is supposed to be. And exactly what we need in this time of economic crisis.

Under the Health Insurance Portability & Protection Act (HIPPA) you cannot be denied coverage for pre-existing conditions when you switch insurance companies (i.e. when you change jobs).

This is one of the big scare tactics from Democrats on the health care issue. Here is my experience: I have a 6 year old, 3 heart surgeries, 1 pleurodesis (collapsed lung repair), 3 abdominal/stomach surgeries, multiple ER visits for high fever. I switched jobs when he was 3. I switched from my previous employers coverage to COBRA, then to my new insurers plan that does have preexisting clauses. They have not denied one claim due to preexisting condition being protected by HIPPA

It is obvious how they arrive at this conclusion... From the Government's point of view this is a zero sum game. A $5000 tax credit is exactly equal to $5000 is government spending, both would increase the budget deficit. The question is, which approach would likely decrease COST. In my opinion, letting the federal government negotiate down health by consolidating the buying power of more people would drive down costs for everyone by using competition as a tool on everyone's behalf.

    • Posted By: timwalsh300 @ 10/16/2008 8:04:57 PM

But a tax credit doesn't transfer any wealth. Providing health care to someone that they otherwise can't afford requires that you take that money from someone else. That, to me, is the true definition of "cost."

Jim Johnson, no matter how many times people tell you that Obama is against socialism, you keep posting these blogs that accuse Obama of socialism and communism. It is not ture and you know it. You are just trying to smear Obama and make people afraid.

In his book Audacity of Hope, Obama writes at length about the FAILURE of SOCIALISM and the failure of communism. He enthusiastically states that American democracy is the greatest political system on earth. Obama is not a socialist, and he does not admire socialism.

If Joe the Plumber thinks he can't afford to buy the business under Obama's tax plan then he really needs to consult a good accountant. Obama's plan lowers taxes on the first $250,000 Joe makes. On the money over $250,000, Joe would pay 39% under Obama, instead of the 36% he now pays. That's 3% more taxes, not exactly a break-the-bank if you have already made $250,000 at a low rate. Plus, Obama will give him a tax credit for every job he creates, and tax credits for every employee that he provides health insurance for. Under Obama's plan, Joe's business will pay LESS TAX than it does now.

McCain's plan will tax the first $250,000 at a higher rate, then drop the taxes on anything over $250,000 by an unspecified amount. McCain's plan does not give him a tax credit for every job he creates. If he provides health care for his employees he will now have to deduct yet another tax from their paychecks, adding administrative burden to his company. Not to mention that Joe will have to pay this tax himself on his personal income, which amounts to an extra $4,200 a year he pays in taxes (35% of the $12,000 a typical policy costs). And if his company does not provide health care, he and his employees will pay out of pocket for their health care (average cost $12,000 per year), get a $5,000 tax credit under McCain, but be out of pocket at least $7,000 per year for their policy.

My impression is that Joe really should stick to plumbing and leave tax policy to Obama.

Furthermore, Joe the plumber says that Obama has a "very socialist view of taxes" This statement shows America how very uninformed Joe Wurzelbacher is. I would love to hear Joe define socialism and describe the tax policies of a socialist nation. He would start to sound like Sarah Palin on Katie Couric. Nor does he seem to recognize that all democracies socialize certain functions: police, fire fighting, military, roads, public schools, sewers, water. This is for the greater good and we all accept it. It does not make us socialists.

In his book Audacity of Hope, Obama writes at length about the FAILURE of SOCIALISM. He enthusiastically states that American democracy is the greatest political system on earth. Obama is not a socialist, and he does not admire socialism.

Joe the plumber should stick to plumbing and leave public policy decisions to people who actually know what they are talking about.

Oh, and maybe Joe and his boss should get plumbing licenses. Apparently neither of them is licensed, in violation of both state and county laws.

Obama's view of the future of America - Socialism which is the next step to Communism!!

Under socialism a ruling class of intellectuals, bureaucrats and social planners decide what people want or what is good for society and then use the coercive power of the State to regulate, tax, and redistribute the wealth of those who work for a living. In other words, socialism is a form of legalized theft.

The morality of socialism can be summed-up in two words: envy and self-sacrifice. Envy is the desire to not only possess another's wealth but also the desire to see another's wealth lowered to the level of one's own. Socialism's teaching on self-sacrifice was nicely summarized by two of its greatest defenders, Hermann Goering and Bennito Mussolini. The highest principle of Nazism (National Socialism), said Goering, is: "Common good comes before private good." Fascism, said
Mussolini, is "a life in which the individual, through the sacrifice of his own private interests??realizes that completely spiritual existence in which his value as a man lies."

Socialism is the social system which institutionalizes envy and self-sacrifice: It is the social system which uses compulsion and the organized violence of the State to expropriate wealth from the producer class for its redistribution to the parasitical class.

Despite the intellectuals' psychotic hatred of capitalism, it is the only moral and just social system.

Capitalism is the only moral system because it requires human beings to deal with one another as traders--that is, as free moral agents trading and selling goods and services on the basis of mutual consent.

Capitalism is the only just system because the sole criterion that determines the value of thing exchanged is the free, voluntary, universal judgement of the consumer. Coercion and fraud are anathema to the free-market system.

It is both moral and just because the degree to which man rises or falls in society is determined by the degree to which he uses his mind. Capitalism is the only social system that rewards merit, ability and achievement, regardless of one's birth or station in life.

    Yes, there are winners and losers in capitalism. The winners are those who are honest, industrious, thoughtful, prudent, frugal, responsible, disciplined, and efficient. The losers are those who are shiftless, lazy, imprudent, extravagant, negligent, impractical, and inefficient. [What about the role of luckbeing in the right place at the right time or the wrong place at the wrong time? R. R. Pope}

Capitalism is the only social system that rewards virtue and punishes vice. This applies to both the business executive and the carpenter, the lawyer and the factory worker.

I don't understand how the Lewin Group and the Tax Policy Center figure that McCain's plan costs anything at all. "Giving" a tax credit simply means not taking someone's money in the first place. On the other hand, "providing" more coverage via Medicare, Medicaid, and SCHIP as Barack Obama wishes to do will cost something - a lot of something. In fact, the Government Accountability Office projects that Medicare alone, as it currently stands, will be eat up about 10% of our GDP at some point in the next 50 years! Increasing those benefits and expanding coverage to more people is guaranteed to bankrupt this nation.

The USA has the best politicians money can buy. Both candidates lie, as one can clearly see by the fact that their lips are moving. Neither of their health care plans will be implemented because the vested business interests will pay the politicians to back-off.

All of Europe, Canada, and even Cuba, have socialized medicine. The result is that the population of these countries live longer than here in the United States. When you get sick, you can go to a clinic or be admitted to a hospital, and be treated without charge. If you do not want to share a room in the hospital, or you want more than is cost effective for the government, you may have to pay extra.

Also, medication is much cheaper in every country in the world than in the USA - although most medications today are made in foreign countries..

    • Posted By: timwalsh300 @ 10/16/2008 8:21:21 AM

      medford-oregon,

It sounds like your research about health care is limited to having once watched Michael Moore's film. Ask yourself this: if the situation in Cuba is so much better, why are you still living here? Maybe it's because intuitively you actually recognize the value of limited government, individual freedom, and free-market capitalism. Listen to your intuition and apply it to your views on our health care system. I am aware of the downsides to socialized medicine (things that you would find grotesque and unacceptable, just like certain things about our current system) and I personally think we are very lucky that it's not here (yet).

Well I don't know where Joh McCain gets his numbers for average annual health insurance coverage. $5000?. I started a business last year and had to find insurance for my family. At first I thought that my I would keep my existing health insurance, but soon found that it would be $1000 \ month for Cobra coverage for a family of 4 with 2 teenagers, both healthy except for allergies and acne. Then I found out that as an individual I couldn't even get that same policy because I have allergies and acid reflux. So now I have a basic major medical plan, with a $3000 deductible per person, no co-pays, no prescriptions for $300 per month, with my wife still getting insurance for her ($400 \month just for her through her school district as a teacher), Family insurance coverage through her school district would have been $1000 \ month with her group plan. So basically with McCain's plan I could have insurance for 5 month per year. We'll just stay home and take vitamins the rest of the year.

    • Posted By: timwalsh300 @ 10/16/2008 8:11:36 AM

      Unhappy Citizen,

I'm confused: You say that you'll get 5 months of coverage per year basically for free, and you make it sound like that's stupid and wrong. I guess you think that you are entitled to completely free health care all year long? Who do you think should have to pay for that, and why would that be fair? You should be thankful that your fellow citizens would be picking up some of the tab instead of selfishly demanding more.
