My guy is registered for the first time this year because I told him why we needed to get trustworthy McCain elected so I don't have to completely homeschool my children who are in public schools if Obama is elected. And he registered, so I must have given him a good reason why. I'm sure many other women are figuring it out. So you might see an increase in guys voting this year for exactly the reason I just told you.

Well this year my husband is registered to vote for the first time because as a mom of public school kids, I let him know how important it was to get trustworthy McCain elected. He knows that if I have to completely homeschool my kids if Obama is elected that I won't be as much fun to live with. Pretty simple.

Bill Clinton won because he had the female vote. The squiggly lines CNN provided at the last debate for the male and female test audience showed that the males preferred McCain, the females Obama. If this is true, then an overwhelming female vote will bring Obama to the White House, just like Bill Clinton 16 years ago.

Our culture is being ... wussified. Men don't care. There is no honor. There is no respect. The family
is being destroyed and parents can not instruct their kids. Males don't get proper role models. Obama
never had a good role model and locked on to Rev wright. He had no one else. We will have a marxist,
who will spread your money to the groups he decides will benefit the dem left.

I've never seen so many whining, self-pitying men in one place. Maybe it's for the best that you don't vote.

Seeming as you're on the top end of this post....You haven't "seen" or "read" many comments, much less...whining-men...Sounds like a she-man sorta' thing...OK, you hate men...that's cool...why dontcha' just "say" that...shallow & not very well-calculated, I must say. What about all us guys that grew up in a man's world...with the usual Manliness...no fear...no emotion...never cry, support the household, defend the family, watch your wife "cheat" on you...
oh yeah!...I love this "sex in the city", "wife-swapping", "real" housewives of Orange County", "Desperate Housewives", "she's gotta' have it ALL" mentality of female "empowerment" that leaves those of us that grew up with manners, discipline, honor, truth...ALL the things that "Roy Rogers", "The Lone Ranger"
"Seargent Saunders" & "The Cartwright's" taught us...being the first TV generation...It's called the "de-masculinization" of the American male....
and it's a pain in th' ass......whew!...I feel much better now.

Wow, now that's what you call a rant...good on ya brother. I couldn't say it better.

    • Posted By: notroubleatall1963 @ 10/17/2008 4:20:43 PM

Yes, stay home and lock yourselves in that closet while the rest of the country has a huge celebration!

Is it because the best candidate this year happens to be of mixed race? Aw, that just sucks, poor babies - nobody good looks anything like you do, white boys.

      • Posted By: tiredofextremes @ 10/17/2008 4:41:58 PM

Femi-nazi, sexist, racist, bigot. Yep, I think that covers you.

  • Posted By: KirkScotsman @ 10/17/2008 4:54:25 PM

"Hussein Obama": straight from the GOP playbook, Steve610 aka Karl Rove. This is a really weird discussion on here: 2/3 of posts attack Obama, & most others attack Newsweek for running this piece. If we guys really can't do anything other than grunt & throw rocks when a trend this fascinating--and disturbing--arises, then I guess I'm glad fewer & fewer of us vote.

  • Posted By: suzvoter47 @ 10/17/2008 4:53:57 PM

As my parents and their parents have said before I was even able to vote if you don't vote than please do not complain. My husband (age 48) and I age 46 have voted in every race even at the local level. Why...Because belive it or not your 1 vote as simple as it may sound does make a difference.

We have moved a few times in our lives and have had to register as new voters on more than one occasion. If nothing else take into consideration the MANY countries in which people are willing to risk thier lives literally to vote for a democracy. It is not only your privaledge it is your duty and should you choose not to vote than please keep your mouths closed when you don't like the person(s) voted into office, as your inaction may have contributed to the outcome and your lack of participation disqualifies you from complaining.

One item not discussed here is the draft. Since men are no longer impressed into the army during war, they may not be as concerned with who may be making those decisions.

  • Posted By: Steve610 @ 10/17/2008 4:48:32 PM

I won't vote, what difference is it going to make? Affirmative Action has hurt white men to where even in politics someone with NO qualification like Hussein Obama can go to Ivy League Schools simply on his color and NOT his qualifications? As a veteran, I will not vote for McCain, where was his voice when every president since Reagan cut the VA to the point that the kids in Iraq have no VA privileges?

  • Posted By: varacefan @ 10/17/2008 4:46:23 PM

Question for Obama? How much does it cost to rent a movie at the video store?

  • Posted By: varacefan @ 10/17/2008 4:44:18 PM

Question for Obama? How much does a gallon of milk cost?

  • Posted By: varacefan @ 10/17/2008 4:42:35 PM

Question for Obama? What % of your income do you donate to nonprofit groups, excluding acorn?

  • Posted By: LynyrdSky @ 10/17/2008 4:32:40 PM

I'll say this and be done with it.

Obama and McCain were at a fundraiser last night in tuxes with champagne and expensive food and deep pocketbooks with the nations elite politicians and wealthiest Americans.

They laughed and joked around like old friends, and if you watched CNN or your local news, you caught images and soundbites of their jokes.

When are about 80% of the people in this country going to wake up and realize what is going on here?

We have spent too long dividing this country up with fear and lies and hate on both sides, yet here they go putting on a show...

My bad, the show is the presidential run. What you saw tonight was the real people.

Only the bitter, upset voters fight each other. These two could care less really.

They are part of the elite, and it really doesn't matter who gets elected, because YOUR best interests are not on the table.

This BS talk about Palin and Obama and everyone else... it has to stop. Stop yelling at each other and yell at the ones responsible...

  • Posted By: becauseisaidso @ 10/17/2008 4:31:58 PM

Because as a republican in such a largely democratic state, or vise verse for that matter, my vote does not matter. The outcome has already been written in the books. Time to get rid of the electoral college and go to a popular vote for the presidency.

  • Posted By: Just Joe @ 10/17/2008 3:21:40 PM

I have voted in Presidential elections since John Kennedy ran for office. A white male, I will not vote this year.

I think men are pragmtists,, and realize that all we are doing is choosing between too establishment candidates, and that there is not that much difference between their positions.

After all the election promises and speaches, Washingto will go back to doing whatever it wants. So why vote? They don't listen to us anyway.

    • Posted By: b brecht @ 10/17/2008 4:27:05 PM

Pretty illogical - most of our history has featured presidential races from establishment candidates - the non-establishment candidate is a rarity because of the nomination process.

    • Posted By: News and Notes @ 10/17/2008 3:40:52 PM

You may actually do better going to vote but leaving President blank, or writing in someone. I'm going to vote out my congressional representative, and vote no on all the ridiculous ballot questions

  • Posted By: njjeff @ 10/17/2008 4:24:41 PM

My father did not vote. He feared jury duty. As a one man company he could not take any time off. He felt that his privacy was on the line by voting.

As much as the 24 hour news cycle has inproved our ability to follow the political process and remain informed about the candidates, their positions and their antics; it has also corrupted it. Now, men of great stature and position stoop to gimics in order to grab headlines and dominate time with talking heads.
The politicians themselves are the reason fewer men are voting. Men want to know the truth. They want ot know a politicians stand on the issues, what he/she will do correct the things that need corrected and what he will DO to make the "changes" he is proposing. Politicians are playing to the lowest commen denominator, and talking in circles, talking in fluff. Often they say noting. If they do propose a big change in government policy, they fail to explain to us how it will work. They are not specific. They do not give details.
Men, and women, for that matter, were more interested in the political process when someone like Ross Perot came into their living room, sat down with them, got out his pie charts and other graphs. Perot told us what the problems were, and he told us exactly how he intended to fix the problems. Perot also said he would not use the entire US economy as an experiment. He said that when a new program was introduced, it would first be piloted, (the way real businesses test ideas!!). We might not have liked Perot's honesty or even his political ideas, but you could not deny his honesty and ability to spell it out to us.
Men aren't voting because politicians don't give then enough credit for being able to understand the details about a plan, and instead talk to the crowd in elementary terms that don't mean anything. Men are tired of fluff and dessert. They want the meat and potatoes. Over the past 30 years we have seen politicians say one thing and do another, over and over again. We've had enough.

Tony Dokupil is an excellent example of a spineless man who is told by his wife how to vote. His article shamelessly panders to women (by saying thet the hope for non-voting men is women). Men are angry and alienated because they have been bashed and largely disenfranchised from their own families by the profeminist and anti-male American culture. Men do all the hard difficult backbreaking work, while women reap the benefits of mens blood sweat and tears.

  • Posted By: b brecht @ 10/17/2008 4:14:59 PM

Tony Dokupil, the author of the article is an excellent example of the spineless man who is told by his wife how to vote. This was a typical Newsweek article that panders to women and bashes men. Men dont vote because the American culture has become very anti-male and men are therefore isolated from participation at multiple levels - negative portrayal of men on TV and by the political process. Most men do not feel that America represents their interests -its just a matter of time before they organize and fight back. Of course, Newsweek and Mr Dokupil will be singing a different tune at that point - pandering to whoever buys their magazine.

As a white working class older Aamerican , my strong guess that the apathy of men is that they feel both political parties have abandoned the working man.the traditional old fashioned Roosevelt democdratic party has focused on other voting blocks, and the Republican Party just keeps handing more ande more of the national wealth to the upper class and corporate America, so , why vote ? What good does it do ?

    • Posted By: News and Notes @ 10/17/2008 11:55:56 AM

Hillary reached out to blue collar, moderate, working class, male democrats. Now many don't feel like there is a good choice.

      • Posted By: r_doss @ 10/17/2008 12:14:04 PM

If you examine policy positions of Hillary and Obama you will see little difference. So much for your argument that there's little choice. Of course, if you mean the working stiffs will only vote for a white candidate, that's another issue. Really, examine their respective policy positions. Not much to fight over.

        • Posted By: News and Notes @ 10/17/2008 3:56:34 PM

There we go again, playing the damn race card! I'm so SICK of it !! Obama is an brilliant orator and politician, be he is an underexperienced liberal with terrible judgement; while Hillary is an experienced moderate. Truthfully, I think Obama's race is a benefit, becuase he has empathy. However, one needs a lot more than empathy to be a great president. As a Hillary supporter, I have been called every name in the book ALL YEAR LONG by Obama supporters who pretend to be fellow democrats, but they only want to hear from people who agree with them. What a smug comment.

    • Posted By: r_doss @ 10/17/2008 12:01:49 PM

As a member of your same class, I question the wisdom of being apathetic toward the Republican transfer of wealth from the middle and lower class to the narrow upper class. Even if the Democrats did focus on minorities or other groups, it was not part of their ideology to to pamper the rich and screw everyone else. Not voting against such policies is like not objecting or resisting when burglars clean out your house.
