I think many guys think it has already been decided who will be elected by the Rich, New World Order, or whatever. So, they don't bother.

To all of the conservatives out there who think that Obama is a flaming liberal, I would like to remind you of what he did when he was elected President of the Harvard Law Review. The Law Review President gets to name ten individuals to write articles for the Review, and these ten people get to control the content of the publication. All of the minorities and the liberals thought they finally had it made, that Obama would appoint ten left wing editors. Instead, Obama appointed three conservatives, three liberals and four moderates. That year the Law Review was critically acclaimed as the best run and best written Harvard publication in decades.

So when he wins in November, conservatives don't have to freak out. Obama is a centrist and will appoint a balanced cabinet full of active people who will really get things done. Kind of like the way our multi-cultural society is supposed to be. And exactly what we need in this time of economic crisis.

I think a lot of guys also believe that if they vote they're more likely to be called for jury duty (even though in Georgia, at least, they also use driver's license records).

Generally, though, there are a lot of MYTHS about registering and voting that persist from year to year. People don't lose their right to vote because they sat out an election or two, they don't lose their right to vote because they're homeless, and they don't lose their right to vote because they're behind on bills or even if, like Joe the Plumber, they owe back taxes. Voting is a fundamental right, but no one in power is bothering with a publicity campaign to let people know that. Hmmm...I wonder why that is? Could it be that it's because the Republicans have been in power most of the time (and still are, except for the House), and the Democrats would have a big advantage if everyone eligible was registered and showed up to vote? In normal times the Democrats have around a 5% advantage, but in difficult times like this it swells.

    Slow news day tony?

I sure hope that the dimwit males that vote for the repugnant ones stay home and just chill out so that Barack Obama wins by a landslide. Considering that men tend to vote for the worst possible candidates, namely republicans, let them stay home. I hope lots of women vote so that we get the change we can believe in.

    • Posted By: r_doss @ 10/17/2008 11:36:37 AM

I likewise hope that the dimwit females who vote for emotional or sentimental reasons also stay home, because it seems to me that they managed to give us George W. Bush for two disastrous terms. You can't blame W on just the males.

(roll eyes) I always believe that if you do not vote, you have no reason to complain. Even though I agree that the system seems broken, I will continue to vote until the day I die.

Vote?/! Vote for what? Vote for a so called Maverick that has already sold out or, vote for that talking head that has never had a job. Let me see, the last time...Little George or John "I want to be a hippie" Kerry or, Little George or Little Al, I am a robot for momma Pauline.

For a guy to say what he thinks or, take any kind of stand is social and private life suicide. Just ask "Joe the Plumber"; I bet he wishes he kept his mouth shut when the bubbleheaded news media jumped his ***. A smart guy will keep his mouth shut, pay as little taxes as he can, go to work and prays that the efforts of a lifetime, perhaps generations is not taken away for those who do not work, a corrupt stock market, dead beat social programs, and the rest of the ticks that suck the life out of the Republic. Everyone just shut-up and do whatever that super-smart guy Keith "I cannot duck when I get in a Car" Oberbearing on NBC says we miss guided masses should do....

Yep, we are just to dumb. Next time......maybe we should not show up for work, not fight the wars, stop providing for the wife and kids, stop paying taxes, and.....burn the house before the foreclosure and shoot a few politicians.....maybe a little blood in the street will go along way. You know, just how those real smart people in Kenya run/"represent" a nation and its people. Yeah, like that talking head......

Voting takes 2 hours; and it happens while you work..... As a rough estimate it will cost me $ 93.00 to perform the task(s). Sorry, I do have the time, nor, the devalued money to waste....

Ever heard of absentee ballots? Just call up the County Clerk's office and have them send you an application for this. It's a short form, fill it out and mail it and in due time you get an absentee ballot. No standing in time for 2 hours, so your excuse doesn't hold water. Your message contains a trace of racism and wingnut philosophy. Well, stay home so you won't cancel my vote. I'm a senior but I've been voting all my life, despite alll the disappointments.

      • Posted By: OldSchool333 @ 10/17/2008 12:49:35 PM

Yeah Doss, I have heard and used them before. Well, you have to go and wait in line to sign during a week day, it comes late after 3 months, you have to get it certified, again during the week day, and, later I found out that it was not counted. They hold those ballets for 90 days and mine was not in the pile. For the sake of curiosity I checked. As for the racism, I think your "senior" mind may have missed the real point. in consideration......or, you have the usual chip on the shoulder about nothing.

      • Posted By: Iconoblaster @ 10/17/2008 12:48:02 PM

With all respect, I didn't detect anything at all racist in OldSchool's post, and I think you missed his point. If he sees not a dime's worth of difference between the candidates (which seems a perfectly legitimate opeinion, even though I don't share it), it makes no sense for him to waste ANY time voting... and it makes no sense for others to URGE him to vote, unless they also offer him some persuasive reason to prefer one candidate to the other. If I thought I could convince OldSchool to vote for Senator Obama, I'd give it a try

  • Posted By: MygAsh @ 10/17/2008 12:44:42 PM

Sure you have the right to not vote- just don't bitch when a politician screws up. As for the system being broken; I can sure as Hell tell you it isn't going to fix itself. So instead of sitting, waiting for "change", why don't you make some yourself, you'd be surprised how many will follow your example.

why vote for a pick pocket

  • Posted By: Not_Rich @ 10/17/2008 12:42:42 PM

Did you ever get involved in local politics, attend the county council meetings, serve on commissions, serve on the board of your local taxpayers association? Probably not, because you know who I see there, you'd be hard pressed to find a person under 50. Ever try to form a homeowners association, organize a community for anything, know waht you get, if a man answers the door...Ah, let me ask my wife. I don't know if it started when women started pushing for men to be 'more sensitive", "to get in touch with their feelings" or what, but white menhave basically turned into lazy pussies. They now thing being involved is yelling at the TV during a football game, higher priority is put on watching sports than working with their local government. One does absolutely nothing for your budget, the other controls your property and local sales taxes, school taxes, the quality of your schools, etc. A yard for the kids to play in, absolutely not, that takes a little work to mow, let someone else build a park for them. Too lazy to do anything, but the first to whine when something happens they don't like, like Arnold says, girly boys. I see it every day, they whine about increasing property taxes, but don't even know where their government meets, much less who their representative even is. They'll whine about their senator, the president, but will read the sports page instead of the business and editorial sections, won't listen to debates or meet their representatives at local meetings because it's too boring or American Idol is on. It's easy to see why our government is in such a mess, so out of control, just look inthe mirror. Apathy is a career politicians best friend. While you're sitting around in front of your TV, they're working on more ways to take and spend your money. You can't just sit around expecting somebody else to keep an eye on these people for you, sometimes you have to do your own babysitting. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out, if you're not out there fighting for yourself, you're going to come out the loser.

men have stopped voting because they know all politicians talk long, say nothing and do nothing except find find a way to fill their pockets.Democrats and republicans sleep in the same bed.

  • Posted By: jongibson @ 10/17/2008 12:33:28 PM

Why don't we show up? Because we are smart enough to know that it doesn't make a difference. There is a reason it is called politics. Politics is about helping out the whole it is about getting elected and then re-elected. The system IS broke and it needs fixed. Until then most of us men won't wastes our time.

Not voting is also an act of democracy. Since it sends a very clear message that neither candidate is worth the time of voting. Since both major parties feel it is more important to cater to the extreme fringes of their electorate it means that most of the people who live in the country are not represented since they are in the middle. If the parties spent a little time finding people who excite the electorate instead of people that you vote for to stop the other candidate from winning, the system would likely produce better leaders. My case in point would be John Kerry.

    • Posted By: UK Cousin @ 10/17/2008 12:24:04 PM

I am not sure why the John Kerry thing came up. wasn't really part of this.

Is there anything worse than a Democratic Party trying to build a bigger tax and spend government to benefit the poor and middle class? ??? maybe, with it being a Republican Party boldly lying and aggressively manipulating for many years to create an arrogant government that does and spends so very much to benefit so few! Consider ??? Which has actually less concern for the majority of Americans? Which is more dishonest? Which is more irresponsible? Which is more dangerous? Which has proven to be more detrimental to our economy? Which has alienated our allies and lost our respect in the world? Which has actually cost America more? Which has let our infrastructure and our problems worsen (energy, education, medical, pollution, immigration,,)? Which depends more on distractions and subterfuge always avoiding the issues? Which, when we support and condone it, literally being manipulated by it, costs each of us individually more? Which do we really need to recognize and reject? It likely would be nice to have a third political party not focused on big government and not on big money but rather honestly and responsibly on the people ??? in the mean time, right now we need ???real change??? and ???no more of the same???!

It's a waste of time. You are just changing one set of thieves for another set of thieves. I view all politicians as nothing more than thieves, lais, and hookers.

  • Posted By: SilentObserver_intheCorner @ 10/17/2008 12:19:47 PM

The best thing I can say is watch George Carlin's stance on voting and maybe it would provide some insight on other reasons why some do not vote. If you cannot relate to the reasonings of what Carlin has to say then stop and think about the last president's actions.

What choice to moderate male democrats have? McCain's biggest problem is he has an (R) after his name. Obama, Pelosi, Reid, and trial lawyers can't wait to get their hands on taxpayer's future earnings. Obama wants to send checks to people who pay no taxes at all. Didn't President Clinton sign Welfar Reform into law in 1995 ? We need Hillary

  • Posted By: 66stangs @ 10/17/2008 12:04:20 PM

THAT IS TRUE IT IS WASTE OF TIME. THE PROCESS TAKES ABOUT 2 HOURS AT MY RATE THAT WOULD BE 100.00 DOWN THE DRAIN. THE FACT IS EITHER WAY YOU VOTE U ARE U ARE DOOMED SO WHY VOTE.... AT THIS POINT NOT EVERYTHING COULD BE FIXED AND IT IS GOING TO TAKE FEW DECADES TO FIX ALL THE WHITE COLLARD CRIME THAT IS IF THEY GO AFTER....MORE LIKELY NOT...JUST LOOK AT AIG THE GOVERMENT BAIL THEM OUT AND NOW THEY ARE HAVING TONS OF FUN WITH ALL THE TAX PAYERS MONEY....WHERE IS THE GOVERMENT TO PUT THIS AIG FUC*** IN JAIL.....HUMMM GOV...

  • Posted By: News and Notes @ 10/17/2008 12:04:14 PM

Hillary Clinton was the best option moderate male democrats have had in 40 years. Then Pelosi, the DNC, and party elites to thank for pushing her out of the way. Nobody wanted to anger new, young, or black voters, but they had no problem angering loyal, moderate, male democrats. The modern democratic party always wants what is new, left-wing, and exciting instead of what is steady and proven. There is no loyalty.
Now we are stuck with two terrible options.

I still think there are more women than men in most parts of US. Also, the fact that politicians never really solve the problems they promise (e.g, the last 8 years)., and this brings about a let down from men but spurs women to make a change vis a vis their high turn out.
