The best line in the best movie ever made was Gene Hackman saying, "This is your team." I would bet that most of the people would change at least two of the four running for President and Vice President. Hell, the democrats had 18 million for the other gal. But, for both sides, "This is your Team." Find out about them and pick one. But, I don't think Letterman should be gold standard at asking questions that matter.

Right on!Where were these guys when Obama and pals played the race card on Bill and Hillary? And now the sainted 'One' can't heap enogh praise on Hillary.Shame on him ond all of you who aided him.Now we have to hold our noses and pick the one that is less er of the 2 evils.

That's BS. It was Bill who played the race card after Obama's win in South Carolina and Hillary too with her statements that white working class voters will not vote for Obama etc..

I'm sick with anxiety and distressed to distraction by what McCain is doing to this country. We were on the edge and he is pushing us over -- all for his own ego!

I fear violence, I fear for Obama and his lovely family, I fear for our future, our hope and our peace. Obama is a brilliant and gracious man who CAN make a difference -- and I am afraid for this good man.

I hope McCain is seriously condemned and given his walking papers once he loses this election. And Palin can go back to were she came from, hopefully never to be heard from again.

Obama worked with Ayer's wife. The Ayers chose Obama to run the Annenberg Challenge. This gave Obama control of $50 million to do favors with in Chicago. That launched his political career. He did more than pal around with Ayers. He owes Ayers his political career. I find it profoundly concerning that a couple who tried to blow up the U.S. Capitol building and the Pentagon could be sleeping in the Lincoln Bedroom on the night of January 20, 2009. While the U.S. has made many mistakes, blowing up public buildings and killing people is not a solution. As my mother used to say, two wrongs do not make a right.

Donna, that is bogus old news that has caused McCain to lose most all of the Independent voters. Please keep spewing it as you really are providing a civic service. Helping McCain lose.

Enter McCain and Keating had become personal friends following their initial contacts in 1981,[11] and McCain was the only one of the five with close social and personal ties to Keating.[42][43] Like DeConcini, McCain considered Keating a constituent as he lived in Arizona.[35] Between 1982 and 1987, McCain had received $112,000 in political contributions from Keating and his associates.[44] In addition, McCain's wife Cindy McCain and her father Jim Hensley had invested $359,100 in a Keating shopping center in April 1986, a year before McCain met with the regulators. McCain, his family, and their baby-sitter had made nine trips at Keating's expense, sometimes aboard Keating's jet. Three of the trips were made during vacations to Keating's opulent Bahamas retreat at Cat Cay. McCain did not pay Keating (in the amount of $13,433) for some of the trips until years after they were taken, when he learned that Keating was in trouble over Lincoln.[7][45] In 1989 Phoenix New Times writer Tom Fitzpatrick opined that McCain was the "most reprehensible" of the five senators.[46]

          Hey brainac...

The Keating 5 consisted of 4 Democrats and 1 Republican.

John McCain (R) and John Glenn (D) were each admonished for showing "bad judgement" for their involvement and nothing more.

Alan Cranston (D), Dennis DeConcini(D), and Donald Riegle (D) had substantially and improperly interfered with the FHLBB in its investigation of Lincoln Savings, with Cranston receiving a formal reprimandinterfered with the FHLBB in its investigation of Lincoln Savings, with Cranston receiving a formal reprimand.

Only one of those 5 is running for President and claiming to have superior morals and ideals.

Enter YThe Keating Five were five United States Senators accused of corruption in 1989, igniting a major political scandal as part of the larger Savings and Loan crisis of the late 1980s and early 1990s. The five senators, Alan Cranston (D-CA), Dennis DeConcini (D-AZ), John Glenn (D-OH), John McCain (R-AZ), and Donald W. Riegle (D-MI), were accused of improperly intervening in 1987 on behalf of Charles H. Keating, Jr., chairman of the Lincoln Savings and Loan Association, which was the target of a regulatory investigation by the Federal Home Loan Bank Board (FHLBB). The FHLBB subsequently backed off taking action against Lincoln.our Comment

        Liddy's connections to John McCain
In 1998 Liddy hosted a fundraiser at his house for John McCain's re-election campaign at which guests could have their pictures taken with McCain and Liddy.[6] Over the years, he has made at least four contributions totaling $5,000 to the senator's campaigns -- including $1,000 in 2008.

Last November, McCain went on his radio show. Liddy greeted him as "an old friend," and McCain said "I'm proud of you, I'm proud of your family." "It's always a pleasure for me to come on your program, Gordon, and congratulations on your continued success and adherence to the principles and philosophies that keep our nation great."

      • Posted By: tswun71 @ 10/17/2008 6:12:25 PM

        [edit] Watergate burglaries
For his role in Watergate, which he coordinated with Hunt, Liddy was convicted of conspiracy, burglary and illegal wiretapping, and received a 20-year sentence. He served a total of five and half years in prison, including over 100 days in solitary confinement, before his sentence was commuted by President Jimmy Carter and he was released on September 7, 1977.

        [edit] Advice to listeners
Liddy is noted for controversial advice to his radio audience, including on one occasion in 1994, after the federal raid on the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas, Liddy advised his listeners: "Now if the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms comes to disarm you and they are bearing arms, resist them with arms. Go for a head shot; they're going to be wearing bulletproof vests. ... Kill the sons of ***."

Donna - the Bush presidency started the entire Iraq war based on blatant lies to the public and what has come of that? Blowing up buildings and the deaths of many more innocents (American, Iraqi, British, French... the list goes on and on). McCain has been an ardent supporter of Bush and his policies. McCain's bobblehead running mate and her husband have supported a movement for Alaska to secede from the US. What sort of loyalty does she have to you or any other American? Open your eyes. McCain and Palin eschew American ideals by supporting hatred and bigotry.

Nobody gives a crap about the Ayers lies. Give it a rest. The only people who might listen to you are people who were going to vote for McCain no matter what.

Preaching to the choir might be fun, but it isn't going to accomplish anything other than make you a laughing stock.

I, agree. But, for some reason you didn't discuss McCain's my friends. (shady friends, guilty, crooks, break ins, etc.) I think Dave did that eloquently, he kept him squirming. I guess his wife will say Dave picked his bones. Obama, receives 90% of negative press, while McCain gets a pass. Never hear anything about keating, libby, liddy, abramoff, etc. The meadis showed what they wanted to about the interview with Dave. They should. Kudos to Dave.

  • Posted By: yvette @ 10/17/2008 11:19:19 PM

I agree , but you didn't mention McCain friends (shady past and found guilty). Kudos to Letterman. But, the media didn't show that part of the interview, amazingly. they are protecting McCain, not Obama, he receives 90% negative media coverage.

  • Posted By: Fallenwish43 @ 10/17/2008 4:01:24 PM

This is absolutely true: McCain is the pot calling the kettle a terrorist! I thought it was handled very well by Obama during the third debate, and McCain's words (and that of his running mate) have hurt his party more than helped. It's a shame that he had nothing better to do in his campaign than spred hate and divisiveness insead of spreading his view on the issues. He was on shaky ground anyway - now he doesn't seem to have a chance at all. McCain has no right asking for someone to stand up for him, when he stood right beside while his running mate tried to tear down a "family man" (quoting John McCain). Shameful. I hope the american people go with their gut on this one.

    • Posted By: chris s. @ 10/17/2008 8:37:32 PM

What could Obama possibly say at this point that would change any of the biggoted republicans minds about ANYTHING? He was as direct , in answering questions during the debate ,as he could ever be. Their mind is made up. End of Story. After all these months, if anyone is undecided, they haven't been paying attention.

Senator Obama has raked over the coals for almost two years. Gov. Palin has got off easy by comparsion.

Gov. Palin does not have news conferences nor does she have any tough interviews after the Katie Couric disaster.

Her husband spends a great deal of time in her office and even sits off to the side when she meets with various individuals and groups. He even used her office to meet with the fellow who was being pressured to fire her sister's husband. What will be his role if she is vice president?

She has been associated as a speaker and convention atendee with the Alaska Independence Party. Her husband was a member and they advocated separation from the U.S. She has been given a free ride by the media and both Obama nd Biden.

All proving that McCain will deny and lie unless he's for sure outed and then he'll joke and jest and say he screwed up, yuk yuk and so what. The problem here is maturity, social emotional spiritual maturity, and the passion for truthfulness that can inspire others. I do admire the stamina and perserverance that McCain has been willing to devote to this quest. And I like that he can laugh at himself, it's endearing. But the trigger temper and the denial and lie, these things cannot inspire, they cannot exemplifiy, they cannot lead. He needs to grow up some more.

Wow, that Indiana rally sure sounds like something I've seen before. Oh, yeah. The rallys in nazi Germany with Hitler. At least that what my mother, who was there, in Germany seems to think. Hitler also used the fear card quite effectively, as you might know.

ACTUALLY HITLER USED THE CHANGE AND HOPE THING .TO GAIN THE CONFIDENCE OF THE GERMAN PEOPLE. IN FACT IT WAS DURING A TIME OF A GREAT FINANCIAL CRISIS YOUR MOM SHOULD KNOW ABOUT IT. IT WAS NAMED THE GREAT DEPRESSION. HE PROMISED MANY THINGS TO GAIN POWER INCLUDING PROMISES IF ELECTED LIKE 1....WEALTH REDISTRIBUTION......2.......INFRUSTRUCTURE 3.........JOBS ETC...... AND AS YOUR MOM WOULD RECALL HE MADE GOOD ON THOSE PROMISES 1...TOOK WEALTH FROM JEWS2.......BUILT THE AUTOBAHN .....3.DEVELOPED A CAR WHICH BTW IS A SYMBOL OF ALL YOU SOCIALIST WACKOS THE VW BUG ..YOU FLOWER POWER! WHICH EMPLOYED MOST OF GERMANY WHICH SLINGSHOTED GERMANY OUT OF DEPRESSION . OF COURSE YOUR MOM TOLD YOU THAT TO RIGHT? MORON

Are you kiddin? JOE THE PLUMBER has taken more questions, the last couple of days, than Palin ever has. Also, answered more directly.

Our cute duo McCain/ Palin are doing the t.v. shows now because it's so much easier than pesky questions about the economy. You guys said that Obama was a celebrity?. Pales in comparison!

  • Posted By: seader @ 10/17/2008 8:56:42 PM

Are you serious? Are you a reporter or a member of Obama's campaign staff? There has been plenty of negativity in BOTH campaigns and at Obama & Biden rallies as well. Not a day goes by without Biden spewing something about McCain and Palin. There have also been plenty of booing at Obama rallies and people wearing T-shirts with very derogatory descriptions of Gov Palin. Any attempt by Repubs to say an Obama policy is bad is shouted down by Dems and likely called racist (a typical leftist tactic -- shout down and accuse your oponent, don't engage them in debate). But nary a word is mentioned of the incredible sexist and racist remarks being made by the O-B campaign.
While questioning in great detail qualifications of Gov Palin for VP, there has been very little exploration of Sen Obama's qualifications for the TOP job. Also, while Gov Palin is constantly pilloried by the media and "entertainment" industry, Sen Biden gets a free ride and is not made accountable for any of the gaffes he makes. The man has been a lawyer and senator for over 35 years and doesn't know what Article of the Constitution the Executive and Legislative branches falls under and that the VP is actually mentioned in the Legislative branch? Remarkable! But what is even more remarkable, those who are supposed to watch out for an ignorant American populace, the media, don't even mention it. They're too busy pushing their own personal agenda instead of objectively reporting and investigating BOTH sides.

The choice has been and still is very simple.??????

McCain, Palin, and the GOP are delivering a message of fear and hatred.??????

Obama, Biden and the Democratic Party are delivering a message of hope for the future.??????

    Enough said.

Obama calls people "*** and whitey"? When was that? I want to hear it.

So sad when "The View" and Letterman are on top of things and our press is not. Puleez, stop reaching. Once again, just like the McCain campaign, not talking about facts. Just allegations.

I guess the economy isn't affecting anyone else out there.

    • Posted By: benluclar @ 10/17/2008 8:23:09 PM

Never saw The View. Never saw Letterman. Am registered Democrat. Never said Obama said anything.
The EMPOWERMENT PROCESS going on here is unbelievable and choking.
And, yes, the economy is affecting me, but I have no intention of giving my LAST DOLLAR for Obama to STICK IN HIS BACK POCKET so somebody ELSE can get a FREE RIDE.

Well said Newsweek. Some of those who comment here don't get it. The point is that McCain and others are appealing to hate, fear and prejudice at a time when America needs intelligence, leadership and ideas. Those who fall for this fear mongering are road kill for cynical politicians who know how to use you.

There is just no way anyone in this country can criticize Obama for anything at all. He is black and he is protected from every statement that has and will ever come out of the mouths of anyone at all for the next four years.
I think we should just all stay home on election day. This is no contest.
A black guy can call me a honkie or whitey, but I HAVE to say ''African American''.
Enough of this garbage. I will just turn off all sitcoms with black people, all sports games with black people, all music shows with black people.......
I have really had this nonsense stuffed down my throat until it has created hate where there formerly was none.
