I for one, a conservative, am so pissed that Mr McCain and that Stupid, YES Stupid Parrot of a running mate are destroying his run for the presidency. Why would you pick a running mate who is as devisive a person as this Alaskan is and then when you realize you have made a mistake not tell her in front of the country to shut up. There is only one way that Mr McCain can pull this one out and that is to do exactly that. It will show the country that he really cares for our country and its future. Otherwise I am afraid it is all over. It may be already be a forgone conclusion but there is no sense in ruining the rest of your political life for the sake of not admitting a mistake. especially one as large as this one. Admitting to David Letterman a little mistake and get some laughs may be cute but that will not get you any more votes. Admitting a huge mistake will get you more miles on your political tread and the American people will respect you for it. It may even help come November 4th. At this present time I am a conservative livng with the shame of Mr McCain

Dave was great last night & turned me into a new fan. I also liked how he questioned McCain about G. Gordon Liddy. Dave is a class act.

McCain lied to Dave. That is not excusable. OH "I screwed up" only goes so far. I can well understand that Dave was completely offended and am glad that he decided to be a hard nosed journalist.

McCain is an idiot for going on that channel. It only made him less than Presidential and reminded everybody that he lied. Another idiotic move by a campaign that totters along the edge of two cliffs. On chasm has racism and a return to bigotry at the bottom of it and the other is the abysmal failure of financial ruin for this country.

His campaign, should it win, would effectively destroy so many things that make our country great.

It would say to everybody that the use of bigotry and racism as a political weapon is OK and successful. It will set us back into divisiveness of slavery and the 60's that I hoped we had moved away from.

It would keep in place trickle down economics and corporate lobbyist control of politics which has destroyed our economy. Corporations would still get huge tax breaks even if they continue to ship jobs overseas.

The fact that they can make huge amounts of money and leave behind unemployed US workers without their retirement and healthcare to move jobs overseas to take advantage of empoverished people in some poor third world country with no labor laws AND we continue to give them HUGE tax breaks is just obscene.

What a smear monger he has become. He just can;t get off that crap.

Newsweek...News or Biased partisan BS? I would have guessed news from the name, but apparently the name of a product does not have to actually reflect what's inside.

Funny how Ellis gives Obama a pass on the Ayers affiliation, and condemns Palin's comments but supports Smith's comments trying to link McCain to racism. Ellis also fails to correctly not that Lewis should have a great big -D after his name and is, as such, is trying to engage in partisan politics and rev-up the big Democratic hate and fear machine.

I cannot believe that the news market supports these clowns that pass themselves off as writers. Once again, I hope this type of third rate clown journalism only proves that my six-figure columnist position is just around the corner. Apparently, any idiot can get a job at Newsweek.

So,by his own admission, McCain is a screw-up. Well now...Bush has been an extreme screw-up. Why would we need another one at this perilous time?

You are right Dave Letterman deserves an award.....

  • Posted By: summer1216 @ 10/17/2008 4:57:24 PM

McCain desperately wants to win. He can`t imagine what his life will be like if he tries for President repeatedly, gets this far, and then doesn`t win. He`s willing to do practically anything, as is obvious from his recent behavior.

McCain will not retract any of Gov. Palin's comments because he thinks they are believable. He knows they appeal to the instinctive racism, hostility and intolerance of the Republican base. He implys Obama is unpatriotic, unamerican and associates with terrorists. He allows Gov. Palin to say so. He wants and needs it to be true because it is the only way to save his campaign. If he the two of them can repeat the accusations and keep up the attacks for the next few weeks , maybe they will persuade some independents and moderates to join with the base. He knows the war, the economy and the Republican record under Bush are unpopular with the majority of Americans. His last chance is to attack to distract. His straight talk express has become the smear talk express. If he loses the election ; there is a place waiting for him on hate radio.

"Die hard" implies the last few adherents of a losing side.

Obama is winning. Deal with it.

Good on ya, Dave Letterman! Perhaps, in a time when politics have lurched so far into the absurd, it is fitting that a skilled comedian would fill the role of journalist. After all, our media have done their best to produce comedy these last few years, so its only fair to return the favor.

The comments posted here become more hysterical every day. Now they are shrieking that Obama is a raving socialist...also the anti-Christ, an unrepentant facilitator of respiration and an aquatic Hindoo mercenary ninja turncoat infiltrator. Not only that, he speaks ENGLISH!!! Oh, the horror.

Johnny Carson could never have made this stuff up!

    Whoa!

David Letterman, one of the most honest entertainers in show business, here to straighten out the warped fabric of the campaign rhetoric! If there's anyone to call a spade a spade, it would be Dave...he once nearly called for the firing of my friend who worked on the NBC website because my friend mistakenly put Jay Leno on the site banner instead.

    Bravo to Letterman.

Look at the stories coming out of the state of Georgia today...KKK , things hanging in trees with Obama written across them, threats, etc. I don't think Sen. Lewis should have backed up from any of his remarks... McCain/Palin are setting back civil rights in this country every minute they are on the campaign trail. It is not only frightening, it's oh, so very sad for our country. Sen. McCain, you should bow your head and apologize to the country. I'm a white, femail voter from Alabama, who is praying daily for Barack Obama and his candidacy. As for Sn. McCain's campaign slogan....country first, my ____.
