Anna, let's talk about your short list. I have read many things that you have written about all the positives of Sen Obama but do you see any negatives in this person ?? I'm not concerned about his race, etc.,but I do wonder if ,as President, you see anything in him that will cause him to be ineffective in these times that cry for stability. Does he have no downside ??

I am so proud to see the day come when a man of knowledge and wisdom would have the opportunity to seek the office of presidency. This has nothing to do with the fact that Obama is a black man, but because this nation has been so badly governed that most americans are suffering bad. My husband and I are middle americans and we are just barely making ends meet. We almost lost our home as well. I can only say that I feel that McCain is sadly mistaken if he thinks that americans will again fall into the trap again. He has no knowledge other than lets fight a war and win. Sarah Palin there is no words for her. I wonder if she had a thought what would it consist of? I support Obama all the way and I will vote for this man of great dignity and strength.

When you have love for people like the universe we that gave us life, how can you be anything but steady. John McCain does not get it. There is a law of universal retroprocity that operates in this universe regardless if you believe it or not. If you give wrong judgement, wrong judgement comes to you. The negativity of John McCains campaign brings negativity of the market that bedevils his campaign. Baracks hope for the people of the world brings him hope in his campaign. It does not matter if you believe this or not. The law of retroprocity is the law of the universe and it doesnt not care if you believe it. Watch it. Wnen there is only that one watch the economy change. But this nation must pay for its sins. Again the Law of Retroprocity. Believe it or not, it is what it is.

The core belief of every American is to work hard and enjoy what you've amassed with your family! IT IS NOW BEING EXPLOITED AND TO BE USED BY BARRACK OBAMA! True and Real Americans won't let this happen and they will spit out Barrack Obama that the democrats, CNN, ABC, etc. shoved in their throats....OBAMA WON'T WIN THE ELECTION!!!

Obama in this video, addressing his work with ACORN litigation relating to the community reinvestment act and the failure of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, as they relate to the current real estate and financial crisis, states that, and I quote:

"Subprime lending started out as a good idea, helping Americans buy homes who previously could not afford to. Financial institutions created new financial instruments that could securitize these loans, slice them into finer and finer risk categories, and spread them out among investors and around the country, as well as around the world. In theory, this should have allowed mortgage lending to be less risky, and more diversified."

    He further states:

???"The original idea was a good one, which was, lets see if we can distribute risk more broadly, and make it easier to provide loans to people who otherwise might not be able to get one."

Listen for yourself. You cannot dispute the mans on words recorded live:

Obama in this second video is campaigning at a convention of Acorn and I believe two other "Community Activist" organizations. Ask if he will be their ally if he becomes President, Obama says, quote:

???Yes, but let me say that before I even get inaugurated, during the transition we are going to be calling all of you in to help us shape the agenda. We???re going to be having meetings all across the country with community organizations so that you have input into the agenda for the next presidency of the United States of America.

See and hear it for yourself. Obama promised that Acorn and other groups like it will setting his agenda if elected:

Hear that, the article admits that Republicans were trying to regulate Freddie and Fannie, and Democrats were trying to stop it from happening as a means to facilitate the Community Reinvestment Act.

Do you ever feel OCD for copy and pasting the same things in every column written in Newsweek on a daily basis and column by column basis? Are you impressing or you think your scaring people to change their votes? If you are, your not doing a great job. Perhaps some new material with your own thoughts may make better impressions.

I was pleased to see Anna Quindlen say that as a parent, she wonders where Barack Obama gets his strength and steadfastness, especially given that his upbringing was nontraditional. As a parent coach, I am particularly attuned to the subject of resiliency and why some kids flourish while others falter. I can't answer Ms. Quindlen's question on the candidate, having never worked with him or his family, but I can say that in general, strong and loving parenting -- whether it comes from a mom and a dad, a single parent, a grandparent or another relative or guardian -- is the key. Strong parenting means being intentional http://www.myparentingsource.com/learning/topics/intentional_strength_based_parenting.aspx
about what you say and do, and observing how your words and actions affect your child.

Regardless of where you stand politically, as a parent, you might also wonder why some kids overcome all kinds of obstacles, while others seem to sink deeper and deeper. The key to thriving is resilience...It???s not a matter of luck or chance that some children seem to radiate a quiet confidence in themselves and believe that a difficult situation will get better. Kids develop their beliefs about themselves and the world largely from their interactions with their caregivers.
When children are allowed to feel their feelings, whether it be painful feelings or more positive feelings such as excitement, in a safe, supportive environment, they are on the road to resilience. Resilience is the ability to bounce back from stressful situations and to gain strength from these experiences- http://www.myparentingsource.com/learning/topics/raising_resilient_kids.aspx.
Furthermore, when caregivers provide unconditional love and support with optimism, while providing resources to handle the situation, they foster resilience.
Many factors determine how a person will handle situations as an adult. These include resilience, temperament, and family dynamics. Childhood influences shape how a person views the world and how he/she acts and reacts. It is nice to know that as adults, we all have the ability to positively influence and teach the children in our lives.

Three surveys -- from the Associated Press-GfK, George Washington University and an Investors Business Daily/TIPP poll - - show McCain closing the gap with Obama.

The AP poll puts Obama at 44 percent to McCain's 43 percent, compared with a 7 percentage point advantage for Obama in their September survey. The GW Battleground poll showed Obama's edge at 2 points, down from 7 points in the middle of October, while the IDB/TIPP tracking survey has the margin for the Democrat narrowing to 1 point from 5 points at the start of the week.

AP poll: Candidates running nearly even 10/22/08

Neck-and-neck results are a departure from many recent national polls
WASHINGTON - The presidential race tightened after the final debate, with John McCain gaining among whites and people earning less than $50,000, according to an Associated Press-GfK poll that shows McCain and Barack Obama essentially running even among likely voters in the election homestretch.

The poll, which found Obama at 44 percent and McCain at 43 percent, supports what some Republicans and Democrats privately have said in recent days: that the race narrowed after the third debate as Republican-leaning voters drifted home to their party.

Nice try - but your poll was DISCREDITED today by every major news organization!

Obama is still up 10 - 14% NATIONWIDE!

  • Posted By: Independant Voter @ 10/23/2008 6:45:02 PM

The poll (below) was flawed - it showed 78% of kids (18-24) voting for McCain (yea - right) - and it was just a Republican partisan poll.

The real polls (ie non-partisan) still have Obama up 10-14% nationwide. Go to:

    Taxes:

-Those making between $250,000 and $400,000 annually will have less than $1,500 increase in their taxes. (These people are not complaining. Joe is not one of these people.)

-Those making more than $3 Million annually will pay only 23%.

This will PAY FOR the tax cuts given to the middle class.
This WILL NOT INCREASE THE DEFICIT!

    Calculate your taxcut: http://taxcut.barackobama.com/

    ...................

McCain has a Santa Clause approach to tax cutting. He wants to make cuts, but has not identified how it will be paid for. This will never pass Congress.

McCAIN'S TAX PLAN (or slogan) WILL WILL INCREASE THE DEFICIT!

Get your specific McCain Tax info (if available)

    McCain has slogans not plans.

I'm sorry, but you're not a "maverick" if you've never held a job in the private sector and have spent the last 30 years warming a mahogany chair in an office paid for by Joe the Plumber. The only people that can be compared to are the old elites of the Communist party of the former USSR, who also whittled at self-congradulatory careers at the people's expense. You don't call them "mavericks"; they are called "Communists". John McCain has had his hand out to the taxpayer his entire life, yet Obama, a man who came from little and by his own effort (not his dad's or granddad's legacy) rose to the top, is called a "socialist". Get over yourself, John, you have been a leech on the ass of the country your entire life and it's time to tear you off.

Comment: Only seven months until my subscription to Obamaweek is finished! This once-proud publication has shamed itself this election season. Anna's column has become too predictable - give me the headline and I could write it for her. How will the semi-official weekly publication of the amen-corner cover BHO's administration? I'll have to read about it in The Economist.

    • Posted By: Independant Voter @ 10/22/2008 6:14:02 PM

Somehow I think Fox is where you get your info.

Thanks for the comback Independent Voter. NPR, MSNBC, Fox and CBS network radio are my priimary broadcast sources. About five years ago I picked up The Economist and have been hooked since. I suggest that anyone who is tired of US print media (which has become an echo chamber for talking points from Washington seasoned with celebrity gossip) read this publication for a year. You will gain a balanced perspective on world events (with more emphasis on the world) rather than having your US-centric opinion reinforced or rebutted. My criticism of Newsweek is that it (along with much of the US media) picked their candidate during the Democratic primary and have continued cheerleading for him over Hillary and now John McCain. Read the letters to the editor in Newsweek - they can be reduced to "Yay" and "Boo". Then read the Economist (warning it will take much more time than the 30 minutes you invest in Newsweek) and look forward to provocative letters from readers around the world.
        Best regards,
        BrotherB

I don't understand what working class Americans (code for white people) don't get. I am a Republican, and guess what, the Republican party is not about your best interest, but the interest of the top 4% income wise in this country. Do you have a problem with voting your interests? Or...Is it that there is something psychologically mind altering about the idea that there is a remnant of blacks in America who are just like Senator Obama that have been ignored for years. Yes, successful black people who are educated and hard working. HMMMM..... Will this laught shelljohn by like the last laugh Republicans had when you re-elected G.W.?

Since I know this won't be seen by anyone but the heads of Newsweek, I can write freely. I am tired of your only left-wing view. I am a Republican and proud of it. Your magazine has disgusted me and I am sick of your assuming that Obama has won. His socialist views and inexperience will be the downfall of the United States of America. We Republicans will have the last laugh, just you wait and see.

FactCheck.Org is owned by the Annenberg group of Chicago! Talk about a conflict of interest! And Obama has been telling people on the trail to check out the site to verify his opponents claims. Funny, every time that he endorsed something, it turns out to be a part of his spin machine! Like he raised objections in the primaries when Indiana required photo I.D. to vote. He Protested that It took away people's right to vote! I
knew then and there that he was up to no good! America, wake up from the MASS HYPNOSIS!
