Lets begin with the fact that Obama was only 8 years old at the time that Ayers -claimed- he was involved with these bombings. Let us also remember that, while Obama does doesn't remember any of the weather underground any more than I do. And I am pretty close to his age!
I am less concerned about happen-stance associations than I am about more significant relations, like McCain's relationship with Phil Gramm. Phil Gram was not only deeply involved in the Enron Scandal but his wife was on the board. They raked in huge profits by defrauding people. Phil Gramm, who by McCain's own admission is a good friend and was his economic adviser until it became a political liability, also authored the legalization of the credit-debt-swap which is at the root of the current financial crisis. McCain is also one of those responsible for making the Enron Loop Hole legal.
While it is true that he was not held accountable (as is with the CEOs responsible for the current economic crisis), the fact remains that McCain was also in deep with the Keating 5. He took over 100k from Charles Keating who was convicted of 79 counts of fraud, yet McCain (who is worth over 100 Million) got off scott free because when he was caught he gave the money back. Can you spell government corruption?
Let us not forget, that McCain was has been in office for 26 years and this is the third (and worse) financial crisis he has been involved with.
In light of this, voting for McCain is like voting for more government corruption. The object of the game is to get others to believe that his way is what America needs. Frankly, I would rather vote for a man with less -experience- than McCain than vote for someone who has been part of the problem for the past 26 years!
Well said Fareed Zakaria. The contrast between Sen. Obama and McCain is so clear. Sen. Obama has run a much more superior campaign and has showed style, substance, good judgment, and temperament in this election, as well as, a command of the issues. McCain has been very negative, ill-mannered, and out-of-touch.
Certainly the world knows Sen. Obama is the Commander-in-Chief that America needs at this time. All of us " will feel more confident about his future if a man named Barack Obama became president of the United States."
Obama-Biden in 2008 and 2012 !!!
It is good to see another American considering the distant future.
If Obama/Biden can manifest even 1/4 of the goals that has laid out in his plan for America in the next 4 years, especially in light of the crisis' we face today, he will have my vote, again, in 2012.
Barack Hussein Obama.....the biggest fraud in US political history.
I always thought that was bush Junior
It was bush jr. until McCain envied his power.
Steven Harper - worst Prime Minister in the history of Canada! Go Obama/Biden '08!!!
Barack Hussein Obama is a baby killer....don't worry...the Bradley Effect will cost Obama 20% voter loss.
First and foremost, you need to review the facts. The baby killer accusation is simply not true (do the research). Secondly, the Bradley effect could actually hurt McCain rather than Obama. Considering the dissension in the republican party over the McCain Campaign and his reprehensible tactics, it is much more likely that we will find republicans who outwardly support McCain and privately vote for Obama. One thing I know for sure, when I cast my vote today, in the 45 minutes I stood online (in a swing state) I did not hear McCain's name once ..... but I did hear Obama's uttered repeatedly amongst those that were voting at the same time. Mark my words, if McCain wins the majority of the US citizenry will not be chanting - God bless America -- they will be on their knees praying -- God Help America. For you Christians, might I remind you of the biblical passage which reads:
Rev 18:3 For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.
Rev 18:11 And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more:
Steven Harper (baby seal killer) - worst Prime Minister in the History of Canada! Go Obama/Biden '08!!!
Clever how you pick up on the Democrat theme of temperment, as if everything turns on that point.
No mention of Obama's alliances. Not his associations with Wright, Ayers, and Acorn, but ALLIANCES with them.
A much different thing indeed, and one which raises troubling questions about his judgement that the media choose to ignore.
Perhaps you should return to Harvard's Kennedy School and sit through Ron Heifitz's class. You might learn a little something about moving to the balcony to assess the dance floor below. You might even see that the Democrat talking points had fallen from your pocket.
What about Liddy. What about the Alaskan Indepedent Party??? Think before you write you idiot.
Good Point Angie. But you forgot to spell it out for those whom have not done their homework. The Alaskan Independence Party, whom Todd Palin is or was (Before Sarah Palin's VP nomination) a member of, wants to secede from the US. They publish on their website the following: "I'm an Alaskan, not an American. I've got no use for America or her damned institutions."(http://www.akip.org/introduction.html) , Considering the language, is this where does her husband's affiliation fall? In Sara Palin's pro-American or anti-American ideology>
sorry about the typo's but Newsweek's interface leaves something to be desired. ;0
And don't forget the Keating Five. McCain took over 100k from Charles Keating who was jailed under 79 counts of fraud in the S&L debacle. Or Phil Gramm, key figure in Enron. Both he and his wife cleaned up on that one. Phil Gramm also authored the bill that made credit-debt-swaps legal. Phil Gramm is a good friend of McCain. He authored McCain's economic plan and McCain voted for the bill that created the Enron Loophole. Warren Buffet calls these weapons of economic destruction.
American VOTERS are mad as HELL at MSM Obama cronies! Like CNN & MSNBC! causing the outrage against Obama. they are openly in the bag for Obama, MSM, CNN have jeopardized the security of the American people by deliberating hiding serious facts and associations of Obama. Let me get this straight. A couple of agitated yahoos in a rally of thousands yell something offensive and incendiary, and John McCain and Sarah Palin are not just guilty by association -- with total strangers, mind you -- but worse: guilty according to The New York Times of "race-baiting and xenophobia." So lets ask the New York Times to bring up Barack Obama's real associations -- 20 years with Jeremiah Wright, working on two foundations and distributing money with William Ayers, citing the raving Michael Pfleger as one who helps him keep his moral compass (Chicago Sun-Times, April 2004) and the long-standing relationship with the left-wing vote-fraud specialist ACORN -- you have crossed the line into illegitimate guilt by association. Moreover, it is tinged with racism. Colin Powells endorsement is nothing more than another Black politician being pressured by Black community to join the racism this election, just like John Lewis. It???s sad to see these once well respected men throwing all that away to support a candidate based solely on skin color. Let???s not forget POWELL is the one who advised the American People to go to war!!!! Isn???t it funny how Obama has run on the bases he did not vote for the war (because he couldn???t) but has surrounded himself with those who voted for and supported the war like his VP choice???? Obama is too too unstable to be leader of the free world...
DO NOT RISK OUR COUNTRY ON OBAMA
Where have you been for the past 8 years?
It's not just what some of his (McCain's) supporters were shouting. It is the fact that they were encouraged by the speeches given at the rallies by Palin. By the content of her speeches (Barack "Hussain" Obama was "pallin around with terrorists"), she whipped the croud into a racist freenzy. She basically in a round about way, accused him of treason- and the crowd responded. This is ugly. You do not see this level hate in Obama crowds, but if you ever do, it is not because it was incited by the Obama's speech. There are limits to free speech.
If only there were so much support upholding the US Constitution, Impeaching the appropriate people for international war crimes and insistence that the obscenely wealthy be held equally accountable to the law as the average American.
Here are Palin's Supporter

Did you change your opinion now ?
BREAKING NEWS ALERT...
BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA CLAIMS HE WILL WIN FLORIDA IN THE GENERAL ELECTION THANKS TO ACORN AND VOTERS LIKE MICKEY MOUSE AND DONALD DUCK !!
1. Your post is an out and out lie. First rule of lying, at least make up something believable.
2. I've pointed this out before, but its none of a Canadian's business what we here in the USA do politically. Surely you people have your own political issues to tend to. Get your nose out of ours.
I agree with jarcher1. What business is this of a Canadian to tell us who to vote for? What is it that is so wrong with the Canadian economy, health care system and retirement system that this Canadian is so invested in who are next president is? I am beginning to think that this is a republican posing as a Canadian!
And as for the other dummie who berates Sarah Palin. What would you do if you came face to face with a grizzly bear in the woods ? ..Right..you'd panic ..run..and do the bathroom thing in your pants. Sarah Palin knows better...why ? ....she knows how to survive in a harsh environment and what she accomplished politically in Alaska by challenging the old boys club and big oil execs and getting results is a whole lot more than whatever this Obama bum from Chicago ever accomplished besides connecting inside criminal circles and putting in an application for President the minute he became a state senator...Obama is a zero and a real phoney..and he too is a Pinhead !!
Exactly what benefit do we all derive from Palin's woodsy prowess were she to serve as VP? As for what to do, don't panic, simply unshoulder your Winchester .338 Magnum and stand by.
The only thing we derive from Palin is a good laugh, a hard-on from those so swayed by good-looks without substance and the stress may of us feel at the thought that she could become president!
I think poor Joe is just guilty of what I have notice of some Americans, acting like they are rich and "somebody" when infact they are not. It is sad he was put out there though.
I have no sympathy for Joe. He has been defrauding the public for years (unlicensed plumber) and he doesn't pay his taxes which costs all of us. He does not deserve sympathy and he most certainly does not deserved to be paid to appear on TV. How about someone who is an example of an honest and hardworking American enjoy the windfall that the McCain camp and the press has bestowed on the fraud that they have presented as your Average American?
If the subject were not so serious, this would certainly rank as a comic masterpiece. Who knew Zakaria was such a humorist? Perhaps the part I loved most was the image of Palin, the "rabble-rouser". It brings to mind the storming of the Bastile by the French rabble, seeking justice, human rights, and, God forbid, equality. Remember, "Liberté, égalité, fraternité" (I appoligize to those whose mastery of the language is limited to merci beaucoup)? Yes, the rabble: the common folk, those not educated at Harvard or Yale -- horror of horrors! The modern-day nobility in the media and in Washington, who are themselves myopically mired in the past, love to invoke populist ideas and symbolism, so long as it is contrived to manipulate the rabble. When a true populist arises from the rabble, she must be silenced lest the rabble be encouraged to think that they, too, could actually aspire to the presidency, or even worse, that they could reason for themselves without the media-elite filter to explain the world for them. To this end we can pillory Palin as an intellectual equivalent of junk-food, but let us not pull the curtain aside to view the reality of Joe Biden, Obama's foreign policy wizard, who can't seem to count to four! The truth is that Obama's "new ideas" were old by the time they were espoused by Jimmy Carter, who to his credit at least seemed sincere. So if the "change we seek" is truly a new paradigm, why should we be limited to the time-worn, phony-populist appeals to soak the rich and all the rest when we can have the REAL thing. That is, if you really would want to serve the best interests of the "middle-class", the working man, the "rabble". Oh sorry, now I'm just being presumptuous. .
This is 2008. I believe politics was run differently in 1789. No one's getting their head chopped off. Why is it so hard to believe that more than 50% of the country actually likes Barack Obama? He's not manipulating us.
And Palin hasn't lead me anywhere. She gives speeches to her base. I'm reading to here her talk about one thing she wants to do for this country. I'm waiting . . .
She's cute and sexy, but that just makes her a wolf in lamb's clothing. Have you checked out her record? She gives jobs to people because they are her friends, even if their only qualification is that -- I have loved cows since childhood-- she fires people because they won't fire an employee because he divorced a family member or because they sought federal funding to replace the funding she nixed for victims of sexual crimes. She nixed funding for special needs in Alaska, yet suddenly, after giving birth to a special needs child herself ... we are to believe that she supports parents with special needs children. And for those who have not seen the news of the day she has used thousands of tax payer dollars to vacation with her children. I can see why people love her as they do. After all, she is quite photogenic.
NBC=ACORN=LEFT-WING NUTJOBS=ANTI-AMERICAN=NY TIMES=SOCIALISM=CNN=OBAMA
Does anyone dispute this? ....thought so ....enjoy REID=PELOSI=OBAMA regime for the next 4 years...yikes!
If Socialism is a positive change, then this country and the Obama Kool Aid drinkers get what they deserve. I have already made my millions, but the morons that follow this fake messiah, are in for a shock. America was founded on Capitalism. Maybe fareed, you and the rest of your CNN cronies will change your tune in about a year, when everything is socialised and when you have to stand in line to get a decent health care for your family. your family. You will be whining about the taxes you are paying and why your hard earned dollars are supporting welfare guys that do not want to work.
Trickle down economics does not work. It would if we were a closed society and the wealthy invested in their own county. With globalization, the money trickles down to workers in China.
Right on. What is trickling, is the middle class income. While I have more education and more experience than I did 10 years ago, I have seen my wages drop in the past 5 years to below what I was making when cleaning houses while earning my college degree nearly to decades ago. The decrease in wages started about 5 years ago when US Corp, with US Government support, started with shipping our jobs overseas so that US corps could INCREASE their profits.
You call American healthcare good? Why are European "Socialists" so much more healthy than us? Is their healthcare really so undesirable? I'd rather wait for an extra hour and pay less, than get gauged by insurance and pharmaceutical companies. If a socialized healthcare system is so bad, you can set up your own little free market waste of money operation on the side. Its a free country. Obama is just suggesting pooling resources to lower costs. He's not mandating healthcare except for children. Do you hate children?
I guess, you did not read any details of his plan...As usual, you Kool Aid drinkers are blind and what ever your savior says, is right. I am a Democrat and supported Hillary. I did not agree with her health care plan either. neither is McCains. But socilized health care is not the answer...Most of the 'Rich' Europeans come here for their health care, because we have the best quality care in the world. Your boy Obama is fundamentally a socialist. My Democratic party has morphed into a Socialist party and heading down the wrong path. Clinton wascratic party had mor
What's socialistic about having a choice in health care? Under his plan, you can keep the insurance you have already if you want. If you cannot afford it, you can buy into a cheaper plan and get covered. Lack of health care will ruin our country if nothing is done. McCain's plan would eventually leave lots of people uninsured. People with pre-existing conditions like diabetes could not get coverage and people with cancer would die while waiting for coverage through state "high risk pools". If McCain is president, then don't get cancer or some other condition.
Good point. But you forgot to remind the readers that McCain is going to tax our the health benefits we pay for as income. So even if you are in the best of health, you will pay more. Of course, for the minority tthat make over 250k and will continue, under McCain to receive the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy, it won't hurt them at all. It will only hurt those of us making under 100k per year (the American Majority).
I am so sick of Obama and his lies to the public. He is the big joke. A vote for him will ruin this country. America is the greatest country you could live in and God Bless it, I do.
God Bless you McCain you have my vote and I am a middle class American that works for a living very hard.
Do not underestimate Obama. He is no joke.
No Joke! I voted for him!
No Joke. I voted for him!
And then vote for McCain, and move forward with your bs, Next please.
This is the most calmly reasoned, even-handed discussion of one person's decision-making in the choice between Obama and McCain. Yes, I'm an Obama voter. But I'm not praising the article because of his conclusion but because of how he reached it. It's hard for me to imagine that an uncommitted voter wouldn't be moved by this piece.

Just cast my vote! Obama/Biden 08!
Well written opinion Farheed. I look forward to a validation of "All men are created equal..." and the recognition therof by the rest of the 5.7 billion people on this planet. Obama will do just fine as the president although he or any other brave American will face enormous economic, international and political challenges in the years ahead. We must regain both the sense of rationality and manifest its reality in some verifiable manner that everyone can easily understand. Lets start with a program to get away from oil as the fulcrum of our international relations and as the default indicator of our economy.
Obama is the man we need for real change.
He is nothing but a pigment of your imagination.
Like him or not, he is the future...
RoboHate.
The McCain/Palin campaign is now combining our analog (or digital, cell) telephones with computers, and has produced RoboHate calls against his opponent, to enliven hatred wherever possible.
Hate is not good for the country. And McCain/Palin uses hatred too often. However, McCain/Palin stumbles grossly on unity.
This country needs unity in difficult times. Yes We Can. Obama/Biden is right for this country right now.
