Seriously the comments on this blog (and everyone I read) scare the crap out of me. Grow up America! There is always impeachment!

    • Posted By: Iconoblaster @ 10/21/2008 5:17:45 PM

Impeachment, as we have seen, is not an adequate remedy for real malfeasance (as with Bush's idiot adventure in Iraq, NSA spying, torture, etc, serious violations of law, some of which involved the deaths of thousands of people). The impeachment power is also subject to abuse when it really isn't called for (as with the attempt to pillory Clinton for a picayune and personal infraction).

Impeachment is no substitute for electing the right person to begin with.

I am so sick of the liberal biased media announcing who'll be president before anyone even votes!

And the silly celebrities being photographed in their Obama shirts and pins. WHO CARES what a rock star or soap star thinks anyway.

I'm a religious (Baptist) mother of 2 teenage daughters living in a very Democratic suburb. We can NEVER discuss our views because everyone in our surroundings will hate us just because we're not necessarily rooting for the favorite candidate. Isn't this still a democracy People????

My daughter showed me a funny column from "AMY VS. JOHN" at Wetv.com called, "Can a Conservative Love a Liberal." It explains exactly how hard it is to feel pressure to vote for whoever's most popular.

I'm not the devil because I bring my family to church, and neither is Sarah Palin.

I like both Obama and McCain, but I think people can't discuss politics in a civil open way anymore. It's blue against red. That;s horrible.

"I am so sick of the liberal biased media announcing who'll be president before anyone even votes! "

And I am so sick of hearing republicans whine all the time.

"I'm a religious (Baptist) mother of 2 teenage daughters living in a very Democratic suburb. We can NEVER discuss our views because everyone in our surroundings will hate us just because we're not necessarily rooting for the favorite candidate. Isn't this still a democracy People????"

There is nothing about a democracy that says they can't make fun of you for your choices. You have the right to vote for whom you please. Your neighbors have the right to speak their mind (it's that whole "1st amendment" thing you might have heard about). You do not have a constitutional right to not be offended.

"My daughter showed me a funny column from "AMY VS. JOHN" at Wetv.com called, "Can a Conservative Love a Liberal." It explains exactly how hard it is to feel pressure to vote for whoever's most popular."

So you're saying that the only reason anyone is voting for Obama is because he's popular? If that were the case, how would he be popular in the first place?

"I'm not the devil because I bring my family to church, and neither is Sarah Palin. "

No, Sarah Palin is the devil because she wants to force EVERYONE to adhere to her medieval belief system.

"I like both Obama and McCain, but I think people can't discuss politics in a civil open way anymore. It's blue against red. That;s horrible."

You can thank Newt Gingrich and Ronald Reagan for that one. Your side wanted the divide, you GET the divide, and the only reason you're complaining about the divide now is because it's your party that's circling the bowl, if you catch my drift.

    Obama???s Tax cut Illusion
The Wall Street Journal analyzes Barack Obama???s promise to cut taxes for 95% of Americans: Obama redefines tax cuts as tax credits and that results in a massive redistribution of taxpayer money.
Here is a list of Obama???s 7 proposed tax credits:
???- A $500 tax credit ($1,000 a couple) to ???make work pay??? that phases out at income of $75,000 for individuals and $150,000 per couple.
    - A $4,000 tax credit for college tuition.
    - A 10% mortgage interest tax credit (on top of the existing mortgage interest deduction and other housing subsidies).
    - A ???savings??? tax credit of 50% up to $1,000.
    - An expansion of the earned-income tax credit that would allow single workers to receive as much as $555 a year, up from $175 now, and give these workers up to $1,110 if they are paying child support.
    - A child care credit of 50% up to $6,000 of expenses a year.
    - A ???clean car??? tax credit of up to $7,000 on the purchase of certain vehicles.???
The clean car credit is the only tax credit that must offset actual money paid. The other 6 credits are ???refundable??? because they can be claimed even if you have no income-tax liability. These are income transfers intended to redistribute money from one American to another.
Thus, under Obama???s tax plan, millions of Americans will get government payments in excess of what they pay in taxes, making this a massive redistribution of income far beyond what welfare ever paid:
???The Tax Foundation estimates that under the Obama plan 63 million Americans, or 44% of all tax filers, would have no income tax liability and most of those would get a check from the IRS each year. The Heritage Foundation???s Center for Data Analysis estimates that by 2011, under the Obama plan, an additional 10 million filers would pay zero taxes while cashing checks from the IRS.
The total annual expenditures on refundable ???tax credits??? would rise over the next 10 years by $647 billion to $1.054 trillion, according to the Tax Policy Center. This means that the tax-credit welfare state would soon cost four times actual cash welfare. By redefining such income payments as ???tax credits,??? the Obama campaign also redefines them away as a tax share of GDP. Presto, the federal tax burden looks much smaller than it really is.

  • Posted By: nimodahooligan @ 10/21/2008 3:57:16 PM

and the government volunteering over $700 billion tax payer dollars to bail out the top 3% richest people on the planets business isnt socialism??? are you watching the news at all??? or just bad campaign commercials??

  • Posted By: neocon @ 10/21/2008 3:50:32 PM

When listening to liberals like Obama and Biden one must be careful to listen for what they don???t say. The reason for this is liberals have a very difficult time talking directly to an issue. I think when you spread the wealth around, it???s good for everybody.??? Joe the Plumber had singlehandedly managed to get him to admit that his tax policy was designed to raise taxes on people earning over $250,000 for the purpose of redistributing it to those who didn???t ??? the classic definition of socialism. Liberals always seem to be looking over their mental shoulders or sniffing the political air.
Like the typical Liberal, their philosophy is to convince the public that they are sick, poor, down trodden, and generally worse off than they really are. And government is always the answer.

With Barack Hussein Obama ...America is heading left and then down the toilet. Then " Joe The Plumber " will come and fix the toilet.

  • Posted By: neocon @ 10/21/2008 2:27:48 PM

So let me see if I have this right- Biden says ???Time to get on board, time to be patriotic??? by paying higher taxes, but Obama says he is going to give a tax ???break??? to 95% of Americans. Well, if I do the math correctly, and 40% of Americans do not already pay any taxes, then the answer is ???welfare???. OK, now I understand. It is very clear to me that the media is incompetent since they seem too interested in what newspaper Sarah Palin reads, but could care less about Obama???s associations, lack of a real birth certificate, etc. Every time you turn on the TV, Obama has yet another questionable tie to a suspicious person. By the way, can anyone please explain to me why I cannot find Obama???s college thesis online?

  • Posted By: lindac296 @ 10/21/2008 2:07:51 PM

One thing that bugs me, more than anything, is the way the biased media announces who'll win before anyone has even voted. And the silly celebrities being photographed in their Obama shirts and pins. Why do they think anyone cares about their politics.

I'm the mother of two teenage girls living in a small, very Democratic suburb. We're very religious (Baptist) and pretty conservative, but I tell my girls and my husband to keep our opinions private. We don't want everyone to hate us.

My daughters were telling me that they don't feel like they can even talk politics at school because they'll be the odd people out. No one seems to be talking about the peer pressure to vote Democrat this time, but it's a BIG problem I think.

My daughter showed me a funny column from "AMY VS. JOHN" at Wetv.com called, "Can a Liberal Love a Conservative." It points out exactly how people like me feel when they're not completely on board with the favorite candidate.

I like Obama and McCain, but I don't like the bully tactics the Democrats are pulling. Isn't this a democracy?

Finally the McCain campaign has released a few selected pages of Cindy McCain's tax returns for 2006 and 2007.  Cindy files separately from John.  In 2006, Cindy made over $6,000,000 and paid $1,700,000 in taxes.  In 2007, she made $4,200,000 and paid $1,100,000 in taxes.

Cindy's effective tax rate for 2007 was only 26%, FAR lower than the top bracket of 36%.  If Cindy had paid the 36% she really owed, she would have paid $1,512,000 in tax -- $412,000 more than what she actually paid.

Her paying such a low rate is not because of charitable contributions.  The McCain campaign states that John and Cindy combined gave $340,000 to charity in the past two years.  Even if it was all from her, and all in 2007, that would not have dropped her rate so significantly.

What you are seeing here is the Bush tax cuts in action.  The really wealthy top 1% of income earners are not paying their fair share.  Personally, I think that Cindy, who has made  over 10.2 million in the past two years, can afford to be taxed at the 36% rate.

Did you know that the outfit she wore to the RNC cost $330,000?

No wonder John wants to extend (and increase) the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy.

Incidentally, John McCain made $258,800 last year, bringing their combined income to about $4,460,000 for 2007.

Here's an article in The New Yorker that sums it all up: taxation, socialism and Joe the Plumber all taken in context, instead of out of context (the way many bloggers on this website tend to interpret things).

Just a little humor, this reporter compares McCain to Gollum from Lord of the Rings. LOL!

It is the disconnect between what voters expected from a maverick war hero statesman and what they saw during the debates: an angry, petty, envious creature not in control of his own physical or mental faculties. Gail Collins of the New York Times has provided the best description: he is Gollum, from Lord of the Rings ("We wants it. We needs it. Must have the precious.")

Colin Powell's endorsement of Barack Obama is a contradiction to Colin Powell's career in government, and it diminishes Powell's credibility in the past and present. Barack Obama's acceptance of Colin Powell's endorsement, and Obama's statement saying he will make Powell one of his advisors confirms Barack Obama's lack of judgment and lack of credibility in what he has been saying in his campaign in 2007 and 2008. Does Colin Powell and Barack Obama think all Americans have amnesia or that they are as stupid as the jaywalkers on Jay Leno's show? Barack Obama's main campaign line in the primary campaign was, "I did not vote for the Iraq war (even though Obama was not a U.S. Senator at the time and was not even eligible to vote) and Senator Clinton voted for the war." Obama used that theme over and over in the primary campaign even though it was irrelevant whether or not he voted for the war since he was not eligible to vote for the war.

Remember, ..... Colin Powell, George W. Bush's Secretary of State, is the man who sold the Iraq has "Weapons of Mass Destruction" to congress and to the American people. Congress would not have voted to support the war in Iraq if Colin Powell had not brought information forth to prove to them and to the American public that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. Now Barack Hussein Obama who made campaign promises to fix the Washington that is broken is embracing the man who closed the deal to go to war against Iraq. Is this the kind of advisor Barack Obama values? Does Barack Hussein Obama actually believe Colin Powell's endorsement will help him? Just goes to prove they both have poor judgment , and they are both hypocrites!!!!! NOBAMA!!!

I think the country as a whole (50 states) is in the center. There is a republican backlash going on because of the War in Iraq and most recently the economy, but everyone needs to remember the economy has gotten worse in the last two years since democrats have been in control of congress. I am a disappointed democrat who will vote for McCain/Palin this time. NOBAMA!!!!

"Colin Powell's endorsement of Barack Obama is a contradiction to Colin Powell's career in government, and it diminishes Powell's credibility in the past and present. "

Naw. It's just that a lifetime of military service is worthless to political partisans, if that service member doesn't back the "right" party.

      Stop hating the military.

    • Posted By: summer4077 @ 10/21/2008 9:09:12 AM

Colin Powell is an extremely honorable, intelligent man that is respected on both sides of the political system. He has all the experience and sound judgment you proclaim McCain to have. McCain, in fact, has proclaimed much admiration and respect for Powell. Powell thinks Obama is the best suited for what the country needs now. Brushing him off just because he broke from his party in this one election is very disrespectful and juvenile when he is probably one of the last men in Washington with genuine integrity.

      • Posted By: jjaffie @ 10/21/2008 11:11:05 AM

You would have thought that McCain would respect a true 'maverick' like Powell.

  • Posted By: Morgan2008 @ 10/21/2008 6:25:56 AM

Center left might be okay for awhile, but Barack Obama is so far left he can't even see center, and that is why he is being called a socialist . It is also why many democrats will not vote for him on November 4th.
    NOBAMA!!!!! NOBAMA!!!!!

John McCain is definitely far left of George W. Bush and very close to center. That is why a democrat can feel good about voting for John McCain because he has a record of being a bipartisan. John McCain also has the record to prove he has the experience and integrity that we need in our leader.
    McCain/Palin on November 4, 2008!!!!! NOBAMA!!!! NOBAMA!!!!

People really need to research socialism before they start slinging those silly accusations around. Also, watch Colin Powell's clip from this past Sunday...he explains it perfectly. Obama is the best choice.

In a "Mark my words speech," Joe Biden "guarantees" a "Major international crisis" within 6 months of Obama's election. He says Obama's youth and inexperience will be tested, and he doesn't know the outcome! Just what we need while were in the middle of two wars and an economic crisis!

    Biden Quotes

It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking. We're about to elect a brilliant 47-year-old senator president of the United States of America. Remember I said it standing here if you don't remember anything else I said. Watch, we're gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy.

Biden On Obama as president: ???I think he can be ready but right now, I don???t believe he is. The presidency is not something that lends itself to on-the-job training.???

I would be honored to run with or against John McCain, because I think the country would be better off.

Biden On Obama's Leadership On Iraq: "I Don't Recall Hearing A Word From Barack About A Plan Or A Tactic."

Biden: "I mean, look, the president had a choice and it was a tough choice when he came--when 9/11 occurred. He could either listen to the advice Colin Powell and Shinseki and most of the uniformed military, and John McCain as well, and Dick Lugar and others, or choose the advice of the vice president, secretary of State--the secretary of Defense and others, and he chose the wrong advice, and this--I think we need a fresh start to be able to gain any momentum on this war on terror, and I don't think we're going to see any change--I'd feel a lot better if I knew that President Bush was going to be elected--and I'm not being solicitous--if I knew he was going to start to listen to John McCain.

    • Posted By: Doc Howl @ 10/21/2008 12:09:27 PM

And yet Biden is what? Oh, yeah, the VP pick.

What's that? A politician running against Obama said things during the primary, and changed his tune later? Like, you know, Mitt Romney did about McCain?

Amazing. That's never happened before. No, really.

Yawn. If this is what passes for thought in the GOP, it's no wonder the brand is in a nosedive.

By the way, "no taxation without representation" --was not an anti-tax mantra. It was a demand for representative government (e.g. --a Republic.)

After 9/11, the US government started rounding up Muslims without cause and without due process of law, like we did to the Japanese Americans in WWII. The Bush administration called it's main internment camp Guantanamo Bay. While there are certainly many guilty terrorists held in Guantanamo, there are also many innocent American citizens who have been held illegally for years without even being charged with any crime. They have been tortured by our government. Some of them have died.

Recently the Supreme Court ruled against the Bush administration in the matter of Guantanamo Bay. The Supreme Court Justices were NOT on the side of the terrorists. They were on the side of the Geneva Convention, that says you can not torture POWs, and on the side of US laws that state you can not imprison a person without charging them with a crime and bringing them to trial. I'm sure that like most Americans, the Justices who voted against the illegal, immoral doings at Guantanamo didn't feel sympathy for the terrorists. They felt sympathy for the laws of AMERICA, the land of the FREE, where even rat finks get a fair trial.

Meanwhile, back in Iraq, the Bush administration is busy trying to build a smokescreen to hide the CRIMES they have committed. Those pesky weapons of mass destruction. Just think, the National Debt went up over 6 trillion dollars under Bush. More than 2 TRILLION of it went directly into the pockets of Halliburton, a corporation owned by the Cheney family. Halliburton is now a DUBAI corporation and therefore is not subject to US taxes. All that money they took out of the US Treasury is going into the coffers of a MUSLIM country.

Did you hear about how the US government is being charged millions for Halliburton deliveries of sand into Iraq from Kuwait? Sand. Like there is a shortage of sand in Iraq? Another contractor shipped sand from Idaho to Iraq at our expense. Nobel prize winning economist Joseph Stiglitz discusses these and other excesses of our current government's out of control spending in Iraq.

Your grandchildren will be working like slaves to pay off this debt, so that the Bushes and Cheneys can live the high life in Dubai.

Yeah, they're patriots, Bush&Co. They wear flag pins. And hide the money they stole from America in Dubai.

And they want me to believe that Obama is a socialist. Right.

In case you think McCain is any different than Bush, watch this:

When Russ Limbaugh says Collin Powell is racially biased because he endorses Barack Obama it is obvious, especially to anyone who saw Powell???s endorsement, that the one with the prejudice is actually Russ Limbaugh. To see George W. Bush in any situation today it is very hard to see him as anything but unconcerned and really as if he couldn???t give a damn. Then there is Gov. Palin who impresses that she will actually say anything, without any conscience, or simply do anything, including using her baby as a prop, to bring attention to her and to further her personal objectives. Senator John McCain tries to present himself as a ???Maverick??? and as someone interested in the needs of all of the people yet he avoids taking any position that may benefit the majority wherever it could possibly offend his strongly conservative base and he offers nothing but a continually changing presentation to literally try to play each circumstance in his favor, as he has really done all of his career. The ???trickle down??? philosophy the Republicans continually advocate actually does little for the economy, greatly benefits the wealthy and costs all tax payers. In years past the Democratic Party demonstrated a cocky, arrogant attitude showing it was all about them as they pursued whatever it was they wanted without hesitation or conscience. The pendulum simply swings in both directions, as far one way and then back as far in the other direction. Eight years of Bush-Cheney should have clearly demonstrated to any objective and rational observer that there is a significant part of the Republican Party that shouldn???t be allowed to control the Party let alone the government. It actually would be nice today to have a third political party, or even more, to break things up, create the need to form coalitions and literally prevent the domination and cocksure attitude of any one party and then, hopefully, they would better represent all of the people. Without ever taking the money out of politics that is simply near impossible to accomplish. The real point is to recognize where the pendulum is and that it has now swung drastically to the Republican side with them being cocky, arrogant and irresponsible, being focused on their own and the interests of a select few, simply ignoring the best interests of the majority. As Collin Powell said, ???Barack Obama is the right choice for now???!
