I believe the statement in the article, "Now, the latest evidence indicates that Islamist extremists have broadened their offensive to include India," should have actually read, "Now, the latest evidence indicates that Islamist extremists have broadened their offensive to include the U.S." if you get my drift. The U.S. is a fairly new entrant into the world of Islamist terrorism. India has faced this for years.
May be one would like to put his own house in order instead of blaming others for the failures. Right now 89 insurgencies, about 13 freedom movement, Christian genocide, Muslims killings, Dalit bashing and women degrading are the problems Indian are facing.
The article is timely for next generation though the matter was ongoing since last 20 years since Pakistan first annoiunced a policy of Thousand cust against india by terrorists. If there had been enough attention internationally on the subject Pakistan could have been halted and Sept 11 could have been avoided
Well written article but late by two decades - when Pakistan launched its policy of Thousand cuts to inflict terrorism in India under media glare with much fanfare - there was no action; this has emboldened the terrorists and reduced the consensus required by democratic forces to put up a fight. The sept 11 2001 could have been avoided if Pakistan had faced some action.

Comment: At last, the us intelligensia seems to appreciate the jihadi terror India has been facing for the last two decades. However, there are still cold-war era officals in the US govt.,who may cosider terrorists as freedom-fighters and illogically anti-india.Only a determined US admn.,could force pakistan to see reason and behave as a responsible nation.] Unquote
Responsible nations do not have the stealing habit. They don't steal others water. (Reference: Baghliar Dam over river Chenab, a clear cut violation of Indus Water Treaty, but who cares. Behaving as a responsible nation is the sole responsibility of Pakistan).
In September 2002, the Indian Foreign Minister Yashwant Sinha publicly disclosed Indian plans to open three more consulates in Afghanistan in order to 'strengthen ties between the two countries'. Till then India had only one consulate in Mazar-i-Sharif, in northern Afghanistan. However Yashwant announced the setting up of consulates to cover whole of Afghanistan, i.e. in Heart to cover western, in Jalalabad to cover eastern and in Kandahar to cover southern Afghanistan. The height of secrecy is that the Herat consulate was already working when Yashwant announced its opening. Let alone the Indian consulates of Herat and Mazar-i-Sharif, the other two in Kandahar and Jalalabad are working conversely to the peace process between Pakistan and India. The statement by the then Governor of Jalalabad is on record that, "The Indian consulate in Jalalabad is welcome, but Indians should refrain from spoiling our friendly relations with Pakistan." An Afghan scholar in his article stated, "People in Jalalabad and Kandahar had already expressed their reservations when Indian consulates were being opened there. Our worst fears are coming true. We are back to the 70s when India used its presence here to brew trouble between Pakistan and Afghanistan." Total influence in Afghanistan is a multi-purpose Indian objective, which is supporting the ???Elimination Agenda??? as well as the ???Great Game Nostalgia???. Since making that big a ???hop??? is not possible for the Indians, hence the obliteration of the rest of Pakistan on the lines of the devastation of East Pakistan is considered obligatory by the Indian think tanks, who are foreseeing India as an active participant of the Great Game-II. It is a fact that the number of Indian consulates in Afghanistan is irrational if compared to the size of a ???frying pan??? like Afghanistan. More alarming is India opening consulates close to Pakistan???s borders. It would be too farfetched to think that these consulates have any legitimate requirement for performing diplomatic activities. Usually the functions of the consulate of any country are confined to looking after commerce, taking care of its nationals residing in that country, and, handling the issues of visas. But these Indian consulates are distinctively active in sponsoring cross-border terrorism in Pakistan and stoking unrest in Balochistan and FATA. India has set up camps in Afghanistan to train Afghans and desperate Pakistanis as mutineers to destabilise Pakistan. The recent and current volatility and prevailing situation in Balochistan and FATA are severely challenging Islamabad???s authority. Will Selig Harrison say something about that too?
At last, the us intelligensia seems to appreciate the jihadi terror India has been facing for the last two decades. However, there are still cold-war era officals in the US govt.,who may cosider terrorists as freedom-fighters and illogically anti-india.Only a determined US admn.,could force pakistan to see reason and behave as a responsibile nation.
Its all political move by USA to support Indians against Terrorism etc. What about the Indian Terrorism in FATA and related areas and tell me these are muslims who killing Christians in INDIA?? Why Raj Thakray has been arrested?? ha ha ha... US will always help and support India to pressurize PAKISTAN especially under these circumstances.
