how can you as god fearing americans vote for someone that has a muslim name and was raised muslim in todays world I can't. It is said that the antichrist will come as the bringer together of nations and everyone will love and follow him I'm not saying he is but are you willing to take that chance I'm not so if you are thinking about voting for him do a little research and know who your voting for

I guess you never heard of the 1st amendment or the separation of church and state. The great founding fathers founded this country on the belief that all americans should be able to practice their own religion away from government intrusion. I fear that saying someone is muslim is the new racism in this country an it makes me sad. This country will never move forward until opinions like yours are gone. You have the right to your opinion but I think that way of thinking hurts all Americans in the long run.

You are a very sad, bigoted individual. Muslims have contributed much to not only this country, but this world. There are just as many evil Christians out there. I have many Muslim friends that I cherish--they love this country, love their families, work hard, and are good people.

Enough about Obama being a Muslim, I saw the interview and when he said 'MUSLIM" he meant to say "CHRISTIAN". He wasn't admitting anything!!!! If you have questions about Obama's faith, check this out on YOUTUBE. He is a CHRISTIAN who believes in JESUS, it's as simple as that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYAUIIE8oLA Watch this series of videos and you will never call Obama a Muslim again.

This is a center-right country? I don't think so. On virtually every issue from Social Security to abortion to gay civil unions, the majority of Americans are moving left. They like the 40-hour work week, clean air & water, are supportive of national health care and are appalled by the treatment of the Constitution by the present administration. I just don't see this adding up to center-right.

Nins: Incorrect: The Economist article states"

"We e-mailed a questionnaire to 683 research associates, all we could track down, of the National Bureau of Economic Research, America's premier association of applied academic economists, though the NBER itself played no role in the survey. A total of 142 responded, of whom 46% identified themselves as Democrats, 10% as Republicans and 44% as neither. This skewed party breakdown may reflect academia???s Democratic tilt, or possibly Democrats??? greater propensity to respond."

So your statement that the Dems and Repubs were equally represented is demonstratively false. In fact, that represents a major sampling bias. That is why it is a story, and not a study report.

    • Posted By: Nins @ 10/20/2008 3:39:40 PM

I stand corrected, Nowforthetruth. Republicans were under-represented, and Independents over-represented among the survey respondents. I've amended my post to reflect that. Thanks for pointing it out.

Senator McCain finally has some momentum going. The media of course will lie and say that he does not have a chance in order to slow his momentum down. Don't believe it. A good turnout on Election Day from Reagan Democrats and McCain will win.

The Economist magazine polled over 500 professional economists and reported their findings. Democrats, Republicans and Independents were equally represented. The vast majority of them (over 80%) believed that Obama's economic plans will get us out of our current financial crisis. A similar majority believe that McCain's plans will make the economy worse.

These are the experts. They know what they are talking about.

That article is in an issue a couple weeks back, still available on-line at www.economist.com.

The Oct 11-17th issue of the Economist is titled "Saving the System: the Panic, the Rescues, and a Special Report on the World Economy." Worth reading. It will help you understand what is really going on.

A REALLY funny thing about this is that William F. Buckley's son, Christopher Buckley, mentioned in this article and who is a conservative Republican like his Dad, is supporting Barack Obama for President.

Christopher Buckley was forced to resign from the right wing National Review over this endorsement. Chris has written a conservative column for years at the National Review, the journal his father founded. Chris has been a poster boy for the Republican party.

Many prominent Republicans, including Christopher Buckley, Kathleen Parker and Colin Powell have all come out in support of Barack Obama. Their reasons for doing so are that they feel that Obama is the better candidate. But just as importantly, they are concerned by the growing tendency of the GOP to incite the masses based on false charges of terrorism, Muslim roots, etc. These lies feed a dark form of social unrest that is very destructive for America. They also all pointed to the inadequate choice of Sarah Palin as John's VP. These are prominent right wing Republicans speaking.

And while I am not prominent, I too am a Republican who is voting for Obama.

Christopher Buckley's article about why he decided to support Obama:

Ref; snowy, Calm down, let us fix the last 8 years of a blithering idiot in Whitehouse. Then you can have it back to ruin again, Im sure.
Meantime, as long as their are hate-mongers and hippocates, (and there is never a shortage of them, as evidenced by your posting), Rush Limbaugh is safe. Unfortunately, he'll be here after Obama gets in.

Sir, I could not dissagree with you more. Freedom of speech is a right of EVERYONE, yes, even us hate filled hard core Conservatives have the right. It's not just MSNBC your network or the old whores at ABC, NBC, CBS and CNN that can pile the garbage from your side. We should be allowed our ONE spot on the dial, or is that asking too much of INCLUSIVE far left Democrates? Freedom of speech will erode, even if you say otherwise, when one side dominates it as you side does now. Dessenting opinions will be FORCED OUT.

      • Posted By: erinsglw @ 10/20/2008 3:08:22 PM

Everyone deserves their right to freedom of speech in this country. Limbaugh has the right to say whatever he want and I have the right to turn it off. But I think the point is that many of the right wing news such as Fox and right wing radio are reporting untruths and if perhaps someone has a dissent (their free speech) they are villified, screamed at, and cursed at. I watch MSNBC and CNN and I don't see screaming and ranting. I see a discussion taking place. People that analyze different points of view have a hard time taking seriously someone that screams and rants to get their point across. That is not civil discourse.

In Barack Obama, you have a man who has the intellect and the charm to deal with the media, and the media moguls, and their corporate backers and partners. The more progressive individuals in this constellation, understand that their policies and investments are bringing us to the brink of extinction, not just in America, but worldwide. I believe Obama can shift the right, as well as energise the left.

WFB spoke of his son, you say. John Meacham, I believe it's time for you to think of your son's son, his son and so on. If you have no sons or daughters, try the sons and daughters of those you love.

I believe Obama is thinking of those people, and those people yet to come. Colin Powell's remarks about restoring America's image in the world are pertinent here. So much of the "terrorist threat" has to do with how people elsewhere in the world, who once looked up to America, now see it as rotten and corrupt.

I'm betting that Obama and Biden are the men to shift the American ship of state 5 degrees to the starboard. As an expatriate American, living outside the US since 1972, I can guarantee you that McCain and Palin will do nothing positive for how the other 5-billion-plus people in the world view the USA.

I would argue that this is a center-right country until you take RACE out of the equation. Then it becomes, as most European countries have become at one point or another, a LEFT of center country.

Take, for instance, the examples of Joe the Plumber and Tawanda Brawley. Brawley was maligned by most for reportedly lying about something she claims happened to her. She was maligned, in part, for trying to affect pubic perception and pubic policy with a LIE.

Enter Joe the Plumber, who lies about who he is. The public then turns on the MEDIA for reporting the TRUTH.

How is that possible? The answer: RACE.

A second example is Sarah Palin. Honestly, how many people who are currently supporting Palin would be do so if she were black? 6 colleges in 5 years wouldn't be referred to as "gumption" or tenacity. People would be wondering if she has the intellect.

Enter Obama, who obviously has the intellect, but his intellect is derided as ELITE. Not like the Navy Seals ELITE (most of those guys are WHITE). But "uppidty" ELITE.

Take RACE out of the equation, folks, to define if you're really left of center or right of center.

The truth lies within each of you. And it is quite obvious to me.

    • Posted By: stematwork @ 10/20/2008 2:39:13 PM

joe the plumber asked a quesiton of your lord and savior obama...which the glorious lord of hosts answered. THAT'S what got reported. Obama's socialist, marxist response to "spread the wealth."

There was no lie. He wants to buy a business and is concerned about Obama's tax policy (which he should be).
In case you're wondering, he works for a guy who has a license, so he doesn't need one. (unitll he buys that business, then he'll get one).
The only race issue is this:
95% of African Americans are voting for Obama.

      • Posted By: summer4077 @ 10/20/2008 2:58:04 PM

The fact is, Joe lied. He has said in numerous interviews since that he's not even close to buying the business and probably wouldn't be for many many years--IF then. He was there to make Obama look like a fool. And actually, after examining the business, Joe would really receive a tax cut. So he just made himself look like an idiot.

Here's an article in The New Yorker that sums it all up: taxation, socialism and Joe the Plumber all taken in context, instead of out of context (the way many bloggers on this website tend to interpret things).

Finally the McCain campaign has released a few selected pages of Cindy McCain's tax returns for 2006 and 2007.  Cindy files separately from John.  In 2006, Cindy made over $6,000,000 and paid $1,700,000 in taxes.  In 2007, she made $4,200,000 and paid $1,100,000 in taxes.

Cindy's effective tax rate for 2007 was only 26%, FAR lower than the top bracket of 36%.  If Cindy had paid the 36% she really owed, she would have paid $1,512,000 in tax -- $412,000 more than what she actually paid.

Her paying such a low rate is not because of charitable contributions.  The McCain campaign states that John and Cindy combined gave $340,000 to charity in the past two years.  Even if it was all from her, and all in 2007, that would not have dropped her rate so significantly.

What you are seeing here is the Bush tax cuts in action.  The really wealthy top 1% of income earners are not paying their fair share.  Personally, I think that Cindy, who has made  over 10.2 million in the past two years, can afford to be taxed at the 36% rate.

Did you know that the outfit she wore to the RNC cost $330,000?

No wonder John wants to extend (and increase) the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy.

Incidentally, John McCain made $258,800 last year, bringing their combined income to about $4,460,000 for 2007.

I think your agrument is correct if you are speaking about people over the age of 60. I am 51 and live in Texas which is a red state but I see it changing over the next 10 years to a blue state. Young people have seen their parents dealing with health care issues, layoffs at age 50+ and insumontable credit card debt. They don't see wealth as a measure of success but instead are realizing the world they are entering is more uncertain and they will need help from the government to have a decent life. The next ten years will be difficult as the Republicans realize that they have lost the hearts and minds of the people.

My question is since America is a right of center nation, why would any intelligent person vote for Barack Obama who is more left of center than any other senator in the U.S. Senate? Charisma and youth will not keep America on the path it wants to be on. IF Barack Obama wins the election, it won't be long before there will be a big backlash. Here is HOPING Barack Obama will be a big loser on November 4th so that America will be a big winner on November 4th. Even though I am a democrat I have decided to vote for republicans for congress just in case Obama does win...just to keep a balance of power.

How about that Frank Davis who Obama elludes to as "Frank" in his book. The communist pedophile who he "sipped whiskey with at the age of ten" .Look it up because I doubt Newsweek will report the story.
