I make less than $250,000 and I DO care about myself. See, when they tax the owner of my company (call him "Joe the Company Owner") an extra $100,000 this year, do you think he's just going to eat that? Of course he's not! Rich people are evil and greedy, remember? What he's going to do is cut back on next year's raises and bonuses for a bunch of his middle class employees like me - and I'm going to be cut a lot more than the $500 bucks Mr. Obama wants to toss my way. And I don't think a President Obama would be passing all of that $100,000 he takes from my boss back to me and my fellow employees at our company. I'm sure a good chunk of it is going to go to the usual "pigs at the trough" in D.C., be they right wing or left wing.

While it is true that raising corporate taxes means either that the corporation must raise prices or cut costs, it does not necessarily mean jobs are lost. Furthermore, if the tax increases are balanced by a reduction of taxes on consumers, businesses benefit through increased consumerism. We call this the "trickle up" theory of economics. Since this is a consumer-driven economy, trickle up has a better chance of working than the failed trickle down of the past 20 yearsthan the obviously failed trickle down of the past 20 years

Something else you're leaving out. This country is so full of financially irresponsible people, who are so far in debt because of their spendthrifty ways, that once their credit is cut back, they won't be buying anything from anyone anytime soon. It will take years of government giveaways to get these people out of debt and by then, they will have lost their jobs at the businesses that have been waiting for people to spend the money & have resorted to layoffs or worse.

Tax cuts to billionares create jobs. If you give people with money incentives to make more...guess what they will. Most of the time creating jobs in the process. Who has ever gone to work for a poor man? Also tax cuts for corporations is an incentive for them to grow, in order to receive the tax cuts. Creating jobs... Not sending them to Mexico or China. Over taxation and high salary demands (unions) send our companies looking for foreign labor. Redistribution of wealth and wind fall profit taxes are the biggest form of socialisim that has
    ever came down the pike!

apparently you aren't aware that the middle class drives our economy. unless you provide a way for them to spend money the economy will stay down; it is unbelievable that all of you who make less than $250,000 per year will vote for McCain why don't you care about yourselves????

    • Posted By: benkrapf @ 10/23/2008 4:34:25 PM

And it's worked so well for the Republican administrations so far, right?

  • Posted By: Mattyj2733 @ 10/23/2008 4:43:26 PM

How can a republican complain about Obama spending money? Has anyone opened their wallets the past 8 years of republican rule? Has anyone read about the billions being spent in a WMD-less Iraq? Talking about spending $. The republicans send like its going out of buisness...the U.S that is.

Can Newsweek get any further up Obama's rear end? Cover story this week on how Obama will govern, now this. Slanted news is one thing, being Obama surragets is another.

Here's an article in The New Yorker that sums it all up: taxation, socialism and Joe the Plumber all taken in context, instead of out of context (the way many bloggers on this website tend to interpret things).

Daddy always told me a picture is worth a 1,000 words but then again Helen of Troy Knew that first except her face launched a thousand ships.
I thought that the McCain / Palin, ner see it any other way but their tired and overdone trickle down politics, would react just the way that they did. And they proved me right again as they will always do. 'nough said.
noother waa need to be explicit when you need to tell or show them anything they already know whatis right in thier eyes and noses

    The Obama effect on Jobs.

It is a very simple formula but it can be used to calculate the minimum number of jobs LOST due to the Obama effect ??? increased taxes.

Take the taxable income of a business. Multiply that by the percent increase in their taxes. Divide that number by the average burdened salary (pay plus benefits, etc.). The result will be the minimum number of people that will lose their jobs to so their company can maintain the same cost structure and margins. Of course, other things need to be taken into consideration. When they are, the resulting number of layoffs will be even higher!!!

So, a company that has a taxable income of $5,000,000 with a tax increase of 3% and an average burdened salary of $45,000 will have to lay off 3 people to break even. If the burdened salary is $35,000, then they will have to lay off 4 people. This starts to kick in around $750,000. However, for large companies, the tax increase will be significant and the effect on jobs will be much higher.

Get a clue Obama fans, there will be NO wealth to spread around!!!

    • Posted By: nd2004 @ 10/23/2008 4:36:23 PM

taxable income for corporations is (in simple terms) on the PROFITS and CAPITAL GAINS of said corporation. In your example, this company would have already paid their workers and all other related expenses, and was still making 5,000,000. So saying that the company would have to lay off workers to break even is a lie, they would only have to lay off workers if they want the same profits. I am a republican who favors less government regulation and taxes, but at least get the facts right!

McCain is a crybaby, and Palin cheats on her husband. What a pair and the religious right love them, who would figure?

    • Posted By: jabland @ 10/23/2008 4:33:46 PM

Steven, Where do you get your facts. Sara did not cheat on her husband. You must be one of those people that reads that magazine trash about people giving birth to aliens.

MY opinion may not mean a lot since I am Canadian. But Senator Obama impresses me. He reminds me of Rudyard Kipling's poem - IF. and is best described as A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS.

  • Posted By: the way it is @ 10/23/2008 4:15:26 PM

this is the reaction by the McCain / Palin politicos to the reality of the race for president. Maybe we should expect their reacting this way on the 5th of November. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_a8-YDogNN4 Go figure
