HotWheels cars roll better on and off the track so they tend to be faster than Matchbox cars.
Most often they are more detailed also and command a better after market price for collectors.
Hope this helps.

Hot Wheels are hot again. Parent company Mattel is now worth more than GM. Got an old Beach Bomb VW model in the attic? You're rich!

Pardon my ignorance, but what is the difference between Hot Wheels and Matchbox? When I bought a car for my son, my husband asked what kind it was. He acted as thought I had commited the ultimate sin if I had bought a Matchbox car!

ALL OF YOU NUTS ARE ON CRACK, ITS A FREAKING TOY CAR RELAX, IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH OBAMA, MCCAIN, GLOBAL WARMING, ALIEN PROBES OR WHATEVER ELSE YOU CRACKHEADS COME UP WITH GET A LIFE OR GET OUT.

This is in reaction to Jordan C.Fan - a fake name if there ever was one - Tunnel vision is great for one whom the death knell constantly rings. The Hot wheels models are for looking or playing with . I have serious doubts that those who buy them are going to buy the full size car - It would be just too expensive to the average toy collector. $1 is along ways from the $20-30K ( or more) that the real thing costs.
Get a LIFE and join the real world fella.
this is to "jordan c. fan ".
u dont have to be so emotional abt this issue. u really dont have to bring the life and the environmental matters into a discussion just because someone coined some bucks selling a car. do u think it will make a change because some thought comes up like that???? i dont think so. if they dont selll it some one else sure will.
alll u have to do it ignore it if u dont like it or enjoy it.
This is to "jordan c.fan". u dont have to go all the way to the life and to the environmental issues just because some company coined some bucks selling some cars. am not saying it wont make a difference. if they dont sell it , some else will. do u think some opinion like that can make any change??????

Oh yes! make a dirty buck full of blood. A tiny toy like this encourage more people to drive. More petroleum and other natural resources are waste. The gasoline prices go up much faster for people who must drive to make a live. There will be more emission including "Green House Gases" from cars. More Environmental pollution from from driving and manufacturing of cars. More cancers as a result. More roads are built to destroy wildernesss. More cars accidents with people die and injure.
Here's a video in which Obama discusses fiscal responsibility. Anyone who cares about the economy should see it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5d4a6RNhCUo
On this web page, you can calculate the amount of your TAX RELIEF under Obama's plan (This tax calculator is for personal income, not for businesses. Remember that if you itemize, your tax cut will be higher than what the calculator shows. However, Obama's new 1040EZ allows people to get credit for some itemizations without having to fill out the long form and schedules.)

Nins,
I want to commend you on such a wonderfully elegant response to a person who I feel severely crosses the lines on decent behavior. I find it very difficult to say anything positive about Lori because of her hateful comments towards others. Everything she says gets lost because she sounds kind of like Hitler when he spoke on things. I don???t listen to people when all they do is tear others down because they do not see things her way. Her out of control raving was handled properly by the administrators but I think it went on a bit too long. Most important though: Thank you for showing there are people out there who can communicate with kindness and compassion and still get their point across. I got an account on here to make sure someone let you know how your level head and kindness speaks volumes! I sure wish I could have had you as a doctor.
Regards,
badmoon
I'm sorry I cannot believe that Mattel is worth more than GM. With the holding GM has all over the world the Mattel company is worth more than GM is pretty out there of a statement. I looked up the information I could find and Mattel is not even close. There must be something left out of this article or I am missing something. Anyone care to clarify for me?
This comment was worth reposting its not mine but you should read it
"Nowforthetruth" recently made this posting: "Nins, all you prove is that you have perpetual PMS and cannot read. If you are as careless in your practice, you are a danger to your profession."
You reveal too much of yourself "Nowforthetruth".
"Nowforthetruth" also continues to keep repasting postings that suggest that the root cause of our problem is a law decades old that encourages loans to qualified low income people. "Nowforthetruth" is part of the spin/propaganda machine, and continues to repeat well known deceit.
Alan Greenspan stated recently that the problem was not anything like that. Rather, he stated that an entire financial system was built outside of regulation, and 'we trusted' these self-interested looters to regulate themselves. Credit Default Swaps were the result.
Credit Default Swaps increased from $106 trillion in '02 to $531 trillion under the R stewardship. No regulation.
While there are several variations of a viral email that tries to blame a few thousands of political donations to some Democrats, the actual, legitimate news has reported that Fannie and Freddie paid many millions to Republican lobbyists to lobby Republicans to PREVENT REGULATION.
McCain's campaign manager, Rick Davis, received up to $35K/mo. from Fannie and Freddie from 2000 to present, to lobby Rs,only, against regulation. Freddie has paid Rick Davis while he has been McC's campaing manager. Freddie donated $250k to the R convention.
These facts are everywhere in the legitimate news. You can start at http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/22/us/politics/22mccain.html and http://www.newsweek.com/id/164732/page/1 There's much more legitimate news on this.
Trillions were looted from our economy because the Rs allowed it. It is inescapable that the Rs, most prominently McC's campaign manager, were in the pockets of big money while they drove the buss off the cliff with us in it.
You can try to distract people with fears about 'those guys'. Lies, distortion, deception. 'Socialist' is only the last in a long, now desperate, list of labels you have tried to pin on 'that one'. That's all you have left.
Is your most recent reposting here directed to fears about "Socialism", or is it just innuendo, or are we trying to fold in a little racism too?
I've got an idea, since we have no more ideas, let's keep running our campaign on fear, smears and hypocrisy.
Keep talking "Nowforthetruth", you're really helping. You keep demonstrating that we all have to vote against lies and propaganda and attempts to hijack our political process with deceit. Your actions are the kinds of reasons that I'm voting for Obama after 40 years of never having voted for a Dem.
A 40 year republican
Honestly, looking at McCain and Obama objectively (without any party affiliation or any racism) I really can't see why anybody would vote for McCain. Obama has offered a much more coherent plan to get America out of the economic disaster we are in.
Right now, most people are anxious about the economy, fearing the worst but hoping for the best.
Reality check: within 18 months YOU could be standing in a bread line. That's how bad it really is. And Obama will work actively to prevent this short term, as well as make us strong again long term. As much as I like McCain and admire his patriotism, he really is not up for the job, not now with the global markets falling apart.
Obama's economic plan can be found at:

"Toy cars were crude contraptions, with wheels fused to their die-cast bodies. Handler asked a designer to rig a car from British competitor Matchbox (now owned by Mattel) with wheels that actually spun."
This is completely wrong. Wheels were never fused to die-cast bodies on Matchbox (and other model cars made by Corgi and Dinky in slightly larger scale) that predated the Hot Wheels. Matchobox was the progenitor of the 1/64 scale diecast model cars, and should be given proper credit in this article.
The article also fails to mention a booming trade in larger, much more detailed scale model cars made by Italian artisans such as BBR, and other mainline manufacturers such as Minichamps, Kyosho, Ebbro and CMC.

Nostalgia is wonderful, but the fact of the matter is that Mattel overlooked lead paint in childrens' toys coming from China. They did not apologize to the public and did not provide a response or quality assurance plan for future. Mattel coporate leaders are of the same cloth as the Goodyear managers putting deathtrap tires on new Ford cars and Enron managers stealing equity value from shareholders.
Hi, Lalaura. That was then. Adults are collecting the cars today. I don't think they are going to chew on them. The news ones have no lead paint in them.
Lori says that Newsweek is somehow suppressing her free speech. What Lori fails to see is that Newsweek allowed her to air her vituperative, hate-filled lies as much and as often as she wanted. Given this latitude, Lori took her freedom way too far and started getting exceptionally nasty in her comments. For instance, her comments in which she accused me (a Catholic doctor who is anti-abortion) of being an abortionist who murders babies for money.
Just for the record, Lori, I am not one of the people who reported you for being abusive. However, I fully support anyone who did report you. You are abusive. And if Newsweek removed ALL of your comments (instead of just the abusive ones) I think that represents the fact that they don't have the time (or the stomach) to wade through the vile garbage you write. They just erased them all, and not just the ones on the Mattel article. I noticed Sunday that some of your nastier comments of last week had disappeared on several articles.
What amazes me is that they didn't suspend your posting privileges all together. My advice to you is that you mind your manners from now on. Start writing blogs in PRAISE of McCain, instead of nasty lie-filled attacks against Obama supporters. Could you turn over a new leaf and become a positive person? Could your write blogs in which you discuss McCain's strengths and talk about why you think his policy plans are right for America? If you do this, I promise to praise you and treat you with respect.
the obama worshiper is a little left of plumb.
why does this site allow such wacko posts? Break someone's legs because of his past problems? How about debtors prison instead.
jlee99,
this poster is not an Obama supporter He is just here to keep trouble going as he has been posting this garbage over and over for weeks. He probably doesn't even vote!

loriw - maybe because your complaints aren't well balanced - in that the mccain campaign is just as guilty. Please take a breath and move on.
