Obama in this video, addressing his work with ACORN litigation relating to the community reinvestment act and the failure of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, as they relate to the current real estate and financial crisis, states that, and I quote:

"Subprime lending started out as a good idea, helping Americans buy homes who previously could not afford to. Financial institutions created new financial instruments that could securitize these loans, slice them into finer and finer risk categories, and spread them out among investors and around the country, as well as around the world. In theory, this should have allowed mortgage lending to be less risky, and more diversified."

    He further states:

???"The original idea was a good one, which was, lets see if we can distribute risk more broadly, and make it easier to provide loans to people who otherwise might not be able to get one."

Listen for yourself. You cannot dispute the mans on words recorded live:

Obama in this second video is campaigning at a convention of Acorn and I believe two other "Community Activist" organizations. Ask if he will be their ally if he becomes President, Obama says, quote:

???Yes, but let me say that before I even get inaugurated, during the transition we are going to be calling all of you in to help us shape the agenda. We???re going to be having meetings all across the country with community organizations so that you have input into the agenda for the next presidency of the United States of America.

See and hear it for yourself. Obama promised that Acorn and other groups like it will setting his agenda if elected:

The subprime rates didn't only "benefit" the poor. The "rich" were taking just as much if not more advantage of them. In my suburban Chicago town, the new homes being built were $200,000+ homes. No poor people were buying those. And those mortgages were for much more than those that the "poor" were buying. If that was the case in all areas, I'd say more money was given for mortgages for the "rich" than to the "poor." Plus, everyone really needs to do some research of their own on the issues at hand to get a more balanced idea of the subject. Then make your own informed intelligent decision. However, many find it easier to just listen to those who they believe wouldn't lie to them and just blindly follow. If you're going to vote, be an informed voter.

When you speak of the subprime interest rates, you make it sound like only "poor" people were taking advantage of those loans. In my Chicago suburb, the only new homes being built were those that cost $200,00+. No poor people were buying those homes. Many greedy "rich" folks were buying homes and then doing a little fixing up and selling them at a profit, since values were increasing by 14% a year. So don't try to put all the blame on the little guy. And you really ought to go online and research the different issues. Read all sides of the information and make your own intelligent decision,. Don't just listen to those of your party and believe everything they say. Too many people on both sides do that and it is why we have such a division in our country.

On CNN it was commented last week (last presidential debate week) that 80% of the bottom taxpayers lost 600 billions and the top 20% gained 600 billions. Is that a transfer of wealth or what. What Bush have done with his tax cut and now the 700 billions bailout, isn???t that a transfer of wealth?

Cindy McCain is paying 28% taxes out of 4.2 Millions and people around the 200K are paying 33%-36%?. Can someone do the math here? Benefit to richest only?

What is going on with journalist and reporters out there!!!!

On Obama friends may influence his views or tell about ???judgment???...........
Well you should ask McCain how palling with Gordon Liddy, Pastor Hagee, Keating five, Mustafa Abu Naba'a, Ali Jawad, Oliver North, John Singlaub and U.S. Council for World Freedom, Kemper Marley, Don Diamond, Marylin Shannon have shaped his views. And what does that say about his judgment.

What about his association with segregationist senators and ex- KKK like Byrd, has that make him a segregationist as well?

And what about Sarah and Todd Palin membership with Alaska Independence Party ??? the party of anti-American Joe Vogler What is Todd s influence as husband and shadow governor getting involved in her job and policies. And Sarah s friend Mark Chryson and Steve Stoll members of the AIP as well. What are their influences?

Funny thing how Democracy is not as critiqued since it has spawned the world we live in today. Just sayin.

  • Posted By: Skra @ 10/24/2008 8:37:11 AM

The term redneck was spawned from a socialist movement. In the early 1900's, coal mines from Tennessee to West Virginia demonstrated how pure capitalism unchecked by socialism can be just as oppressive as communism. Workers of these mines lived in horrible conditions. In order to work in the mines, workers had to rent their homes from the mining company. The only place to buy food was owned by the mining company. These mining companies set up their business model in a way that ensured most workers had to work 14- 16 hour days 6 days a week just to break even. Most miners could not maintain this work load without fail year after year and in the case of a sickness or injury, had to borrow money from their employer. Once in dept, it became impossible to quit (slavery).
Country singer Merle Travis summaries these conditions well with a popular song: "You load sixteen tons, and what do you get? Another day older and deeper in debt. Saint Peter, don't you call me, 'cause I can't go; I owe my soul to the company store..."
Many companies employed the firm Baldwin and Felts to provide mine guards. These guards dispensed retribution against ???rabblerousers??? and ???outside agitators??? who came in talking about unions.
In order to form a Union, workers in coal mining towns had to "militarily" take over the town. Since most Unions were organized by socialist, workers wore red bandanna's to cover their faces during the takeover. But by the time reporters arrived at the scene, those red bandanna's had been pulled from their faces and remained around their necks. As a result, reporters called them "rednecks" and the word has since been associated with the people of southern rural origin.
The Mine Wars ended at the Battle of Blair Mountain with Don Chafin and 1,500 men. There was sporadic fighting for a week with surprisingly few deaths. The miners eventually disbanded when 2,000 federal troops, aerial forces as well as chemical warfare troops (tear gas) converged at Blair Mountain.
I point this out as ironic, that many "rednecks" of today perceive socialism as being equated with oppression, a condition no doubt caused by anti-communist propaganda prevalent during the cold war.
I believe the purpose of a democracy is to maintain a balance of capitalistic and socialistic principles. Whenever a society becomes unbalanced, whether too capitalist or too socialist, oppression of the poor will occur.

    Slur?

You mean Godwater is a 'slur' to the noble ideals of socialism.

Overall, I have a considerable amount of respect for Senator/Presidential Candidate McCain. But, reading your information, I am tempted to say that vis-a-vis the noble ideals of 'socialism' --- as defined by the Fabians of Britain and the economic policies made honourable in America by James Tobin and Hyman Minsky and now Paul Krugma -- I am tempted to conclude that Mc Cain himself appears to be ugly sore.

Socialism, as defined above, is nothing less than humane capitalism.

    So, long live socialism!

In his book Audacity of Hope, Obama writes at length about the FAILURE of SOCIALISM and the failure of communism. He enthusiastically states that American democracy is the greatest political system on earth. Obama is not a socialist, and he does not admire socialism.

You need to recognize that all democracies socialize certain functions: police, fire fighting, military, roads, public schools, sewers, water. This is for the greater good and we all accept it. It does not make us socialists.

To you, Jim, and to all of the conservatives out there who think that Obama is a flaming liberal, I would like to remind you of what he did when he was elected President of the Harvard Law Review. The Law Review President gets to name ten individuals to write articles for the Review, and these ten people also get to control the content of the publication. All of the minorities and the liberals thought they finally had it made, that Obama would appoint ten left wing editors. Instead, Obama appointed three conservatives, three liberals and four moderates. That year the Law Review was critically acclaimed as the best run and best written Harvard publication in decades.

So when he wins in November, conservatives don't have to freak out. Obama is a centrist and will appoint a balanced cabinet full of active people who will really get things done. Kind of like the way our multi-cultural society is supposed to be. And exactly what we need in this time of economic crisis.

    • Posted By: lingram @ 10/24/2008 8:19:31 AM

Conservatives are freaking out because they have begun to believe the lies and fear mongering they are spreading. Obama will indeed be a great president and uniter which is what this country needs. We do not need a half senile old man and a power hungary pentacostal.

  • Posted By: zsilvia @ 10/24/2008 8:10:29 AM

And what is wrong with thinking that people have a right to be healthy and educated? To state that this is a bad thing is pure ignorance. You are right, the constitution does not specifically provide these things, but it does provide the tools congress needs to protect its population as a healthy and educated society IS a measure of national security, in fact it is now necessary in order for America to stay competitive with the rest of the world. Socialism? Yes. Is Barack a socialist? No. Forcing people in to private health care is a capitalist solution as it further empowers an independent private care market.

  • Posted By: Nowforthetruth @ 10/24/2008 12:34:13 AM

Who "Joe the plumber" may be is not the issue, though it's easy to see why the Dems want it to be. That's because the real issue is what Obama's comments to him revealed about Obama. In the exchange with "Joe the plumber" we find out that Obama really is as radical as his early political acquaintances, Davis, Ayers, Wright, etc., and that he is into the failed economic policy of wealth redistribution. Obama's tax and spending plans alone would be bad enough, but add Reid and Pelosi to the mix, with the three of them controlling both houses of Congress and the executive branch without any effective restraint, and you have something that should causes concern even among moderate Democrats.
See Wall Street Journal: A Liberal Supermajority:

    http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122420205889842989.html

And whether McCain won or lost the third debate is also not relevant. He succeeded in the first half hour to plant the seeds of a Reagan style wipeout. Reputable historians and economists overwhelmingly agree that the taxation imposed by Hoover and FDR, and the "stimulus" spending and public works programs of FDR, actually deepened and prolonged the Great Depression. It was the production demands of WWII that got the economy going again. And when the war was over, the economy promptly went into recession.

    See e.g. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/10/03/opinion/main4499465.shtml
    And
    http://newsroom.ucla.edu/portal/ucla/FDR-s-Policies-Prolonged-Depression-5409.aspx

Point is, Obama's programs require him to tax, and his health care plan is a hidden tax on all business, large an small. In reality, it does not really matter who he taxes, those taxes are going to be passed through the economy. He has to tax, because it is they only way he can pay for his massive social engineering experiments. Any first year economics student knows that taxation is a tool used to contract an economy experiencing inflation, because it reduces demand by reducing the amount of money individuals and businesses have to spend. It is contractionary, which is exactly what you do not want to do when the problem is that the economy is contracting already into recession. Like Hoover and FDR, Obama's plans will only make it worse for longer.

    • Posted By: Denise Foley @ 10/24/2008 7:51:06 AM

The GOP's "trickle-down" theory of economics was just another way of spreading the wealth around, albeit from an overly optimistic hope that when those who already had lots of money got more, they would direct that money into ventures that would stimulate the economy, resulting in more money for the little guy, like the Joe the Plumbers of the world. Some did that; but many more bought more houses and amassed multi-million dollar art collections and created a financial "airbag" for themselves so that they would benefit in the event of a crash just as much as they would when things went smoothly. What did George Bush the first call it? Voodoo economics? Looks like history proved him right.

Obama IS a Socialist. Example: When asked in the 2nd Presidential Debate if he thought Health Care was a right or a commidity, he said it was a right. There is nowhere in the US Constitution or Bill of Rights that says people are entitled to Health Care. Therefore, his views on Health Care and College Education being something the government should provide to people are socialist views (i.e., government is responsible for taking care of individual's needs).

Turns out Goldwater[and McCain]are correct. The ''nanny''or ''welfare''state is the sole province of the Democrat. Indeed,in many of its nascent foundational regions, which were once hallmarks of true liberalism, such as Social Security and AFDC,they openly brag about these accompishments.

Yet the modern Democrat party is no more allied to FDRs tenets than the Republicans are with Reagans[who Democrat liberals hated anyway]. They are allied with European cradle-to-grave socialism, which has gained currency even among their own ranks. Barack Obama, allied with the American Democratic Socialists while an early entrant into Chicago politics. The all-Democrat Black Congressional Caucus, and its socialist members Maxine Waters, John Conyers,Barbara Lee,and Sheila Holmes-Norton,among many many others. Bernie Sanders[I-Vt], Henry Waxman[D-Ca],Jan Scharkowsky[D-Ill], Jim Delahunt[D-Mass],Zoe Lofgren[D-Ca],
Jim McDermott[D-Wa], Barney Frank [D-Mass] are socialists to the bone. Indeed,McDermott and Miller[D-Ca],are already,as we see from the daily US House business contained in their website[following],are moving to introduce legislation that will effectively end 401[k] retirement plans in every American state and replace this with a pay-to-the-federal government scheme, mandatory in its nature as soon as they grab Congress under an Obama presidency.
Iskikoff, while a reasonably passable scribbler,is no student of American political history. He forgets utterly that this is not 1964. The real ground and airwar in Vietnam had not even happened yet. Neither had Watergate or the Reagan Revolution. No ''Weathermen'',no ''SDS'',no ''SLA'',no ''Black Panthers'', no ''Stonewall'', no ''Roe'',no ''NOW'', nothing that would begin the long march of the Democrat party towards leftwinged socialism as it now consists of.
