Comment: That's a good idea, $300 million of our money to help with your camping gear...

???? AND your point is????? What about the $700 Billion tax dollars we are using to bail out the greedy bankers who paved the way for so many faulty loans just to pad their already fat wallets.

Why not help one of our smaller communities out as well.... maybe then there wouldn't be a need for the suplements we are seeing so much complaining about. They are part of America and should be treated as fairly as the wealthier areas.

    THE GREAT BUSH DEPRESSION
I follow an economist named Bob Proctor. He has called the top and bottom of every market crash since the 70s correctly.
He perfectly predicted the current meltdown and the picture he paints about what will happen next
is terrifying. He thinks it will be worse then the great depression.
The banks in the U.S. are going under one after the other. Countrywide ,Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers and Merrill Lynch , Fanny and Freddy Mae ,AIG
The government took them over because they are bankrupt. Even with the goverment nationalizing hundreds of billions of dollars in debt the stock market is crashing
the credit markets are frozen and all of us may suffer beyond anything seen in generations
McCain just like Bush " doesn't understand the economy".
That not just my opinion its his own words. Not only does he not understand how to fix it but he does not understand how its been broken.
It is no surprise that he doesn't. The people that make up these securities use quantum mathematical models very few people understand.
Bush and McCain both can take the credit for this mess since they helped deregulate the laws that were protecting us.
Bush's economic advisor Phil Graham wrote the deregulation bill that allowed banks to take huge risks with all of our future.
Now, Phil Graham is the head of McCain's economic policy. He is also McCain's choice for the next secretary of the treasury.
No one in this country can afford for that to happen. The last time Bush met with his economic advisors was in March. He was the last to know somthing was wrong. Phil Graham had the guts to say that we are in a mental recession after he helped create the worst economy meltdown in our lifetime. Check out this link to the truth http://my.barackobama.com/keatingvideo
It will take the best and brightest minds in the world to get us out of this nightmare. As bad as Bush has done, McCain would be
even more destructive because things are in much worse shape. The next president will not inherit a budget surplus like Bush did but a crashing economy and a 11,600,000,000,000 (trillion) dollars deficit. Most of it Bush created and it will take decades to pay it back.
If you do what you have always done then you will get what you have always got.
When it comes to policy Bush and McCain are the same 90 percent of the time.
So why are the polls even close then ?
Mccains team just said they no longer want to talk about the economy.Instead they would like to spend time talking about obama
which means running the biggest smear campaign in history.
They think they can just tell you lies and you wont be smart enough to see through it
Let's teach him we are smarter than that
Stand up and hold them accountable
Bush isn't on the ballot this year but his policies are
    Elect Obama Biden 2008

Is Bob a Proctologist? If he is that might explain his 'position'.

THANK YOU THANK YOU! for finally putting an accurate representation in the press about this bridge! I live in Alaska, although not in Ketchikan- but I have flown to Ketchikan. Has anyone who has written about the "bridge to nowhere" actually been to Ketchikan? You literally have to wait for a ferry to take you over to the airport. Ketchikan is a major stop for cruise ships, and tourism is one of our largest industries . How the national media could have portrayed this bridge in the way that they did is not fully truthful, and very frustrating to Alaskans. Yes, there is Pork out there in government, and perhaps the bridge could be built for less. But Ketchikan absolutely needs this BRIDGE TO.............THE AIRPORT!

  • Posted By: astreeter @ 10/25/2008 5:51:16 PM

Funny that the mayor mentions Seattle, a city with a number of islands accessible only by ferry.

At $30,000 per resident, the bridge, considering the necessary local construction expenditure, amounts to a huge subsidy to anyone and everyone living in Ketchikan. It's disingenuous to ignore this in the argument for the bridge -- without a bridge, there's still a ferry; without the impact of $400 million dumped into the local economy, well, that's just a big zero.

it doesn't matter he said she said! what matters is what we are teaching our future polititions...out of the mouth while really blowing it out the hind side. remember the old days when cowboys or outlaws made a deal by a hand shake? not liking the other wasn't the issue it was the honor that each felt must be fulfilled, held above all other issues. a deal is a deal, it was made, said but 'NOT DONE'. fulfill the deal made! i'm sure those who really think its a big joke could look around their own state and request that the wasteful projects being done for them be halted and convert the moneys.wouldn't cost us a dime more now would it? kind of like the ones the government sponsers for space research building equiptment to pick up rocks and such on a lifeless planet that we will never inhabit, ever. really nice to see billions of america's money go up in smoke when the awesome rocket they built desinigrates right before your eyes during a lift off. who's wasting the tax payers dollars? the bridge was promised as to the airport will be built on an island, all agreed and now 30 years later still not done! can't keep a promise as an adult then don't repremend our children for doing the same. they are being taught very well the meaning of the american flag...lies,cheat and deception not honor and dignity. no wonder the world thinks america is a joke, we can't even keep a deal amongst ourselves!

Hey, Bill Ayers! I wondered when you would pop up on this blog. How is your buddy, Obama?

  • Posted By: StopRWWhining @ 10/25/2008 5:46:40 PM

They got the money already and haven't built that bridge at a cost of 14,000 per person in Ket at the lower 48 expense. Just like they got a rebate from oil companies that made a windfall profit on lower 48. You want some whine with that cheese. If the lower 48 were so self sufficient and hardy we'd be sucking up huge amounts of government largesse. Are you tolerant of someone stealing your fence or raiding your garden. And then whining because you don't want to repair thier car because they need it?

  • Posted By: njteech @ 10/25/2008 8:43:50 AM

Having used Ketchikan's airport with gear for camping in the South East AK the bridge would have made the experience a whole lot better. I can feel for the locals that have to deal with the ferry all the time....build that "bridge to the airport".

But spending $700 Billion of our tax dollars to bail out the greedy banks is a worthwhile cause???? Let's state all the facts befor we start throwing around rude comments. Be sensible... at the least.

Governor of Alaska needs to stop spending so much money on her physical appearance and put that money back into her state. 150K wardrobe, 11K per week for hairdresser, 10K for the rimless Japanese made frames she has become so famous for, and charging the state for her daughters to fly around to meetings w/ her that they were never invited to and staying in expensive hotels. Maybe that was her way of trying to protect them from getting knocked up. Oops, too late! She wants to keep same sex unions from having the right to marry, but what if we started teaching children that it is alright to have kids before marrying their prince? What a dumb bitch! Send her dishonest ass back to the freezer.

    • Posted By: informed.voter&mom @ 10/25/2008 5:44:59 PM

Why doesn't anyone question what the other candidates spend on wardrobe, hair, etc... Example: Hillary during campaigning for herself, as well as when her husband ruled the liberal kingdom. How about the china, (furniture? and who knows what else?) that disappeared from the White House when they left office? How about Mrs. Obama? Just because she showed up on The "Liberal" View in a $100 frock - you honestly think that's all she spends on herself? And she's (thank the good Lord) not even running for office. And do you honestly think Palin's daughter is the first teen child of someone in office to get knocked up or any other trouble? And are you judging this family when you don't know them and your only source of info is the liberal media? It seems to me that the Palin's are being incredibly forthcoming and honest. If she wasn't keeping an eye on her now, we'd hear about that, too. S. Palin can't win for loosing. And I have a feeling she probably got preg. in the back seat of a car (not the first teen) and not under the desk of the Oval Office. I wouldn't have taken issue with that incident, either, if it hadn't taken place in a place that should be thought of with respect - not yuck...If liberals can't find anything to tarnish Sarah Palin's image, they make things up or draw attention to issues that are irrelevant. Remember what they say about when you are pointing the finger at someone else (or someone else's party)...You need to put some thought into you thoughts before spewing them out loud (or on-line).

    • Posted By: unabashedlyreasonable @ 10/25/2008 4:41:42 PM

Listen to yourself! You take a buinch of overstated dollare figures and present them as facts and that somehow gives you the right to attack this woman in such a vile manner???. Why don't you go beat your wife or daughters, it's essentially the same thing.

  • Posted By: oceancruiser @ 10/25/2008 5:43:49 PM

What he says is true. I have visited Ketchikan via cruise ship. It is a beautiful little community with an airport that the only way you can get over to it is by boat or ferry. I think the politians should be ashamed of themselves.

Enter Your CommenjustanotherKtowngirl......I stand corrected.....Apologies for my lack of knowledge on the (new) mayor elect....But my principle is the same.....Gov. Palin was unfairly treated and slammed on this issue and I see that she did the right thing.....He ( new mayor elect ) would be very wise to work with Palin on getting this done for folks up there.....It can be done on a local level....Gov. Palin listened to the people she was getting the money from.( via- federal tax dollars/lower 48 tax payers )....and she got slammed for it......that's wrong!!!

First of all I thought we ALL supposed to tolerant of others way of life,Alaskans are a good and hardy people, much of which has disappeared in the contiguos 48 states,I'd rather pay for their bridge than funding grous like ACORN!!

  • Posted By: mamabaker @ 10/25/2008 5:39:33 PM

I think the people there have a RIGHT to feel miffed. put out ,even insuted.... Ketchikan is NOT "nowhere"it is not named Nowhere,AK.. Why was the airport put there in the first place..?? Coming to live in Anchorage, from the"lower 48" I did not realize how much air travel means here in Alaska..I do now, especially as I live near Merrill Field... This is one BUSY airport, small craft... I now realize that air travel is the ONLY way to get around... Distances, lack of roads and weather conditions all make air the ONLY way to go here... Berhie B. ,Anchorage, AK

  • Posted By: Big Bigby @ 10/25/2008 4:56:46 PM

    This guy is a joke!!!!

He gets on National T.V. slamming Sarah Palin for listening to the lower 48 states in not wanting their tax dollars to be spent for this and now begging for us to help build it.....

Maybe he should learn to not bite that hands that feed him before asking those same hands for a second helping.....!!!!!

I got to agree with "to the point".....listen to Sarah Palin and build it yourselves...Quit slamming her and try listening to her......Sarah Palin listened to us......That's why she said "thanks, but no thanks".....she listens to what the majority wants.....

    • Posted By: Fed-up-In-K-Town @ 10/25/2008 5:05:45 PM

You're right, but wrong mayor. We have a city mayor and a borough mayor.

      • Posted By: Chicazule @ 10/25/2008 5:38:34 PM

Mr. Kiffer was elected October 7th. He is the Ketchikan Borough Mayor and Mayor Bob Weinstein is the City of Ketchikan Mayor. Bob has been on TV, not Dave!

  • Posted By: sysmon2 @ 10/25/2008 5:37:20 PM

It will cost $30,000 for every man woman and child to build the bridge. That sure is a lot of ferry rides.

And I'm sure we will find most of the trivial items blown up to monsterous proportion about Sarah Palin will turn out to be nothing if McCain loses the election. The media does the same thing to all republicans. It's like death and taxes. I can tell you what NBC, MSNBC, CBS and ABC have to say about the subject before they publish their first word. They only speak out of the left side of their mouth.

lets just give all our money to the goverment so thay can tell us how to live... let take away the money from the rich and give it to the poor. I mean really the only reason i wanna try hard to make good money is so that i can live in an apartment the rest of my life so that i can pay for people who dont work live the same way i do
