    Aussie:

I am sick and tired of paying almost 60% of my income in taxes and I am not rich. I make 75K a year But after I pay my fed, state, local income tax, my social security tax, my medicare tax my property tax, my sales tax, my hidden taxes called fees, license plates etc.. sewer and water bills, utility taxes (Phone, Tv, Internet, electricity and heat taxes) and a host of other non taxes that are taxes that leaveslitlle else for me to spendafter I pay my other bills you know food mortgage etc.. I want a smaller federal governemtn and lower taxes period. Obama claims he is goin to lower taxes but that is bull. Just letting the Bush tax cuts expire will raise my federal tax another 5% or 2750 a year.He already wants "whites" to pay reparation taxes for slavery which he initially opposed, and it is clear he wants us to pay a global UN income tax too to help all those poor countries who need help. You havent seen the amount of tax increases we will endure under his administration. Pelosi has already suggested that the dems now want to tax Roth IRAs which are funded by after tax dollars and are supposed to be tax free because of that. Two other democrats have already suggested that all 401K's should be government accounts meaning they can borrow your money in your 401K to fund the government much like they do with SS now and drop a fedral IOU in there. God help us if the dems get all three branches of govt we will never survive it financially..

To John Dough, I think you must not be educating yourself very well on the tax issue. You will see a bigger tax break under Obama's plan. Do you think the that the polls for Obama's lead are false. The majority of Americans have educated themselves on the two candidates policies and have concluded that the better bet is the Democratic ticket. . You obviously have some level of education to be in the income level of $75,000.00 annual income . I suggest you but that education to good use and read.. God Bless America

    Note from Mecca:
Our proxies shortselled the wall street and created panic right on time. Allahu Akbar! We didn't have to bring the September '09surprise again on America!! We tried to destroy New york before, America came back, we tried to break the mind of American people by driving up gas price, they wanted to drill more, now we had to pull the last one from our sleeve.
Yes , our economy also suffered, that is Ok, we will just cut the oil production!! so we will get more money and keep more oil.. great idea. Allahu gave us the petro dollars for a reason!!

Mccains litany of failure from a history of deregulation, a lack of a sustainable energy plan in the state of Arizona, to using the American West as a conduit and nuclear waist dump for the nuclear industry is to much to take!

    I am an American
voter that understands all to well that McCain strongly advocated and pushed hard for the unneeded
war in Iraq that has killed hundreds of thousands of people (Americans and Iraq citizens) while causing a million or so refugees to lose their homes their families as to create near 20,000 prisoners that have been jailed in prisons without due process- and now The American government doesnt have a clue what to do with them!

McCain as a senior ranking GOP senator politically authored this crisis!
And this is supposed to be his strong suite?
How pathetic, how low, this is fascism! How can a man stoop, to push his country into a war based upon subversion and duplicity and claim that he is a patroit to do so!

I appeal to my American brothers and sisters- look hard into the mirror and ask yourself is this what America does, is this what we "one nation under god" stand for? Is this what we want to teach our children to be?

OBAMA/BIDEN is the best chance for the change our nations needs!

I proudly voted for Obama/Biden today and strongly feel that I voted in the very best interest of the majority of Americans and our children's future America.

Yay! Change....Hope....Finally! Now, to all of my Red, Yellow, Black, White and Green brothers and sisters........let us all start to help stop the hate (that got sickenly stirred up by too many McCain supporters) and remember, we are all humans and we are all in this together! I will start: "I accept our differences, in fact, I love our diversity, and in truth, when I look at all of you, all I really see is another human being, who bleeds, just like me" God Bless You!

I understand taxes...if you make $75k a year, your federal taxes would be at slightly less than 20%, or $12,993 filing as single, with no deductions at all besides the exemption and standard deduction. Assuming this country doesn't fall apart, social security and Medicare money is insurance, not a tax, and will more than be returned to you. (I hope...if the system gets fixed.) Also, one deducts mortgage interest and all taxes (property and state and local sales taxes too) on the schedule A of itemized deductions. In other words, all of these taxes paid are deducted from your income and you do not pay tax on it. Therefore, with a mortgage, and also figuring that someone at your pay scale also reduces taxes through an IRA, and medical savings account that allows you to pay for your out-of-pocket medical and dental with tax free income, I can not see a scenario where you pay 60% of your gross income in taxes. You can also use a calculator here to get an estimate of your tax savings under Obama's plan: taxcut.barackobama.com

I am voting for Obama not because I think he will do anything great but because of people like those complaining about "just barely getting by" at 75K and are too stupid to understand that under Obama he claims they will get a tax break, under McCain they will not. Neither can give tax breaks because of the raping and looting of America by the Bush and his cronies but I will NOT be a member of a party of the incredible amount of ignorance that is displayed by the NeoCons. They are uneducated, ignorant sheep who will blame the democrats for anything and everything while their own party destroys America. I cannot tolerate ignorance.

why don't you frigging whine about "only" making 75K a year. You make more than 75% of Americans. Maybe if you didn't put such value on your Beemers, your big screen TV's, your expensive gym, your Playstation and crap like that you'd get your head out of your butts and realize that you're doing pretty good compared to the rest of us. Like we're supposed to give a damn about your whining when we work 60 hours a week for minimum wake AND go to school. And have to take the bus because we can't afford car insurance and gas prices and upkeep. And you poor poor 75K whiners have left a debt to my generation that we will never get out from under. My heart bleeds for you. NOT.

Hey John Dough..you are qutoing the wrong man's plan...McCain plans on taxing our retirement....check factcheck.org....
In order for this country to run, we need to pay taxes...if not for our country, you would not be able to make 75K...average income for a US citizen is 34K...stop being selfish and start thinking of the entire country, not just yourself.....(Why do you thing electric should be free?/??? isn't that considered "socialist"????

Today on my way to lunch I passed a homeless guy with a sign that read " Vote Obama, I need the money." I laughed. Once in the restaurant my server had on a "Obama 08" tie, again I laughed as he had given away his political preference--just imagine the coincidence.

When the bill came I decided not to tip the server and explained to him that I was exploring the Obama redistribution of wealth concept. He stood there in disbelief while I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone who I deemed more in need--the homeless guy outside. The server angrily stormed from my sight.

I went outside, gave the homeless guy $10 and told him to thank the server inside as I've decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy was grateful.

At the end of my rather unscientific redistribution experiment I realized the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money he did earn even though the actual recipient needed money more.

The redistribution of wealth is an easier thing to swallow in concept than in practical application.

    • Posted By: aussie @ 10/25/2008 9:24:32 PM

Are you kidding mate? Every single tax system anywhere in the world is a form of income redistribution either through putting money towards public goods or through welfare. You aren't demonstrating Obama's system you are demonstraing every tax system in the world... except maybe McCain's - if you want to demonstrate his you would refuse to pay the waiter and then take any other donations the homeless guy had received for yourself. So firstly get your facts straight - any tax system is used to redistribute income from the wealthy to the less wealthy (thats the whole point). However your beloved McCain's tax breaks to corporations is reducing this by giving money to the rich while the poor keep paying the same.
Redistribution of wealth should be pretty easy to swallow in practice- Americans and the rest of the world have been swallowing since tax systems were devised.
Rich ignorant people like yourself who seem to lack even a high school education in economics really worry me - and the inaccurate and irrelevant experiment you performed sickens me.

    • Posted By: r_doss @ 10/25/2008 12:20:37 PM

That wasn't redistribution of wealth. Waiters depend on tips because of outrageously low wages. You took all of the money the waiter counted on and gave it to the homeless guy. If you had given the waiter $8 and the homeless guy $2, that might be considered sharing of wealth. Your experiment was juvenile and proved nothing about redistribution. The waiter wasn't wealthy, and you know it. You think you proved something?

      • Posted By: dumpthedems @ 10/25/2008 2:48:09 PM

You can't have it both ways dude. The waiter was rich compared to the homeless guy.
Spread the wealth.... I think it's almost ready to soak in on you. Keep thinking, it will come to you.

Since you cut and pasted your 'off the cuff remark' in several palces, I will do the same with my response...
I can see you're pretty proud of youself over this whole smart-assed experiment, so may I suggest another? If you are so unhappy with the idea of having to give some of your money to a cause other than buying yourself more stuff you probably don't need, then might I suggest not paying anymore taxes? Since taxation is the primary means for redistribution, simply don't pay. I'm sure the IRS will lovingly explain to you in their court summons exactly why the law deems it 'fairly important' to pay your taxes, even if you think all those 'pansy social programs' aren't worth it. I mean, why pay for things like schools and roads? Especially in America, where we can all 'pull up our socks' and look after ourselves right? they can always get some home schooling, or buy an F150 to dodge the potholes in the road... either way, I'm sure your lawyer will be able to make the IRS see it your way! :)

OK, so Barack Obama personally taking $10 from you and handing it to a homeless guy is a 'profound message' and perfectly plausible, but your tax dollars that you paid last year being redistributed into social programs is ridiculous. Sure. okey dokey then... Guess I'm talkin' crazy talk! :)

        • Posted By: mrjungles @ 10/25/2008 3:50:55 PM

And that 'profound message' is that 1) you are completely unoriginal. and 2) you do not understand the US tax system, and that is why you will surely vote for John McCain. Here's the good news though: the rest of the country will force you into a better situation for yourself (even though you are unwilling) by voting in Barack Obama. You can thank us later.

Michael Moore said it best. The republicans are only against welfare if it isn't for them. They are the first ones in line to let someone else pay the bill. i.e. Sarah Palin's $150000 makeover. Personally I think it is silly for a news cycle to be devoted to something as inane as how much was spent on her makeover but it does prove a point. Before any republican attacks, I am not saying that the money was spent on her illegally, just I am not sure if the republicans that donated the money to the GOP wanted it spent in Saks and Neiman Marcus. I am sure that "Joe Sixpack" and "Joe the Plumber" cant afford to shop there.

People on these bogs are fond of saying that the current economic meltdown was caused by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac underwriting bad mortgages. While Fannie and Freddie obviously are guilty of writing bad mortgages, and worse, guilty of lobbying Congress to allow them to do so with impunity, their actions are just a small piece of the puzzle when it comes to determining who (or what) caused the financial crisis we face today.

In 1929 the stock market crash caused the banks to fail, because the banks were in bed with the stock market. Back then, banks owned investment houses, so when the stock market fell, the banks fell too. This triggered the Great Depression. So in 1933 the Congress wrote laws that regulated banking, making it illegal for banks to own investment companies, mortgage guaranty companies or insurance companies. The idea was to keep key industries separated by a fire wall, so that if one industry failed the whole economy would not go down in flames.

But the Republicans under Bush deregulated the banking industry. Senator Phil Gramm wrote legislation (the Gramm Rudman Act, the Gramm Leach Biley Act, etc.) that stripped away the regulations in the financial and insurance industies. He pushed them through the Republican Congress and they were signed into law by Geo. W. Bush. John McCain voted in favor. Everybody said how great it is to deregulate and create free markets.

Lehman Brothers, Bear Stearns and Merrill Lynch each gave over a million dollars to Senator Gramm's re-election campaign.

The economic collapse that happened later was a direct result of the deregulation, and here's how: the banks wrote bad mortgages, then bundled the mortgages into investment vehicles that they sold all over the world, and they even got firms like AIG to insure the investments. It was all a house of cards.

If there had been no deregulation, sure we would have had a bunch of bad mortgages, and the mortgage guaranty and real estate industries would have suffered, but there would not have been a global financial meltdown, since the problem would have been contained in one sector of the economy. You can thank Geo W. Bush, Sen. Phil Gramm and Sen John McCain for the meltdown, since they were strong proponents of deregulation.

Furthermore, although Fannie and Freddie are now holding the bulk of these bad mortgages, Fannie and Freddie did not originally write most of these mortgages. They bought them after the fact, bundled by banks/investment companies. Fannie and Freddie got screwed by the Wall Street fat cats. And so did you, if you pay taxes.

What is Phil Gramm doing today? He works as a lobbyist in Washington, trying to make it legal for the Swiss bank he represents to sell Death Bonds in the United States. Nice guy, Phil Gramm. Incidentally, John McCain has said that he wants to appoint Phil Gramm as Treasury Secretary. Some people just can't learn from their mistakes.

    .
    OH, WHAT A YEAR. . .

Everything about this 2008 campaign season has been historic. Ironically, we owe it all to the "Great Uniter" Bush.

(1.) John McCain = = at 72, is the oldest candidate to be nominated by a major party. He is also the only candidate to run while fighting a potentially fatal form of skin cancer.

(2.) Sarah Palin = = at 44, is the youngest person to be nominated by a major party to serve with the president, and only the second female to be selected.

(3.) Hillary Clinton = = the only 'First Lady' to win a Senate seat and come very close to winning the top seat in a major party.

(4.) Barack Obama = = the first biracial candidate to be nominated as the presidential candidate for a major party.

(5.) Joe Biden = = the first U.S. representative of any type from the State of Delaware to serve on a vice presidential election campaign.

(6.) '36-million' = = the most number of votes ever cast for party nomination for president, was done in the Democratic Party. Senator Clinton and Senator Obama garnered over 18,000,000+ votes between them. No party primary election has ever come close.

(7.) $700,000,000.00 = = Senator Barack Obama is on track to raise the most money for a presidential campaign ever.

(8.) +1,300,000 new Democrats and -800,000 Republicans = = the number of new democratic registrants against the number of Republican losses.

    - -

GOD Bless the United States of America!
GOD Bless the Obama-Biden Leadership Team!

Based on what you are saying I do not feel that you are a racist. But it does seem fairly clear that you support the present system of taxation and social programs, which allow for things like patients to be dumped in the street in a hospital gown, disoriented and alone, because they cannot provide means of payment at the emercency room. Obama in this video is campaigning at a convention of Acorn and I believe two other Community Activist's organizations. Ask if he will be their ally if he becomes President and pledge to meet with leaders of Acorn and the others present at the convention in his first year, Obama says, quote:

"Yes, but let me say that before I even get inaugurated, during the transition, we are going to be calling all of you in to help us shape the agenda."

Comment: EASY LESSON IN IDENTIFYING A POORLY EDUCATED, RELIGIOUS EXTREMIST, NEO COM IDIOT.

1.) They call everyone who doesn't think exactly as they claim to think, a "liberal".
    2.) They don't think.
3.) They claim "God" is their reason for being as they are.
4.) They immediately break the word of God which says "judge not lest ye be judged".
5.) They claim they vote for the person, not the party.
6.) They would vote for Hitler against Jesus Christ if Hitler was the Republican Nominee and they would call Jesus a liberal. Which he was.
7.) They claim to be pro life but would let the mother of three die rather than abort a fetus leaving the family father incapable of raising and providing for the family already born despite the fact both the mother and the fetus die due to their "pro life" dogmatic ignorance.
8.) They claim to not be racist yet they have never voted for anyone other than a white person their entire life.
9.) They blame the Democratic Congress or the Democratic President for everything yet never blame any Republican Congress or President for anything. EVER.
    10. When it is demanded they actually proved some documentation of their wild eyed, moronic, imbecelic, childish, racist, hate filled diatribes, they resort to the same cliche time and time again. It's Clinton's fault for lying about Oral Sex which was none of their business in the first place.
