The problem with the McCain campaign is that they have no positive, productive message of their own, no specific policies for improving the economy that differ from those of GWB, no solutions for improving America's standing among foreign nations, no significant platform whatsoever. He is a one-trick pony pushing his vague concept of being a "reformer" and a "maverick".

As a result, he has relied on negative attack ads and speeches from the get-go. Desperate times call for desperate measures, and McCain is a desperate man whose blind ambitions have clouded any sense of judgement, fairplay, and code of ethics. (Palin, on the other hand, never had a code of ethics--only a holier-than-thou sense of morality.)

McCain and Palin have regressed from "gutter politics" to "sewer politics".

The McCain camp claims that their motivation behind attacking Obama has been to question his character, integrity, judgement, and leadership potential.

Well, if you examine the conduct of both candidates during the past month, there is no question about who has shown the character, integrity, judgement, and leadership potential necessary to restore our nation's standing in the world, resurrect our economic vitality, fix the broken health care system, and motivate industry to shift from fossil fuel to non-polluting, renewable energy technologies.

"A former Newsweek reporter admitted in an article this week that he has no objectivity and imagined disabling Rudy Giuliani so he wouldn't run in the presidential primary race last year.
Michael Hastings wrote in GQ magazine that he had a "recurring fantasy" that he could somehow stop the former New York City mayor in his tracks.
"I quickly realized Rudy was a maniac. I had a recurring fantasy in which I took him out during a press conference (it was nonlethal, just something that put him out of commission for a year or so), saving America from the horror of a President Giuliani. If that sounds like I had some trouble being 'objective,' I did. Objectivity is a fallacy," he said."

Both you two sound really intelligent. No wonder your voting for Obama. You obviously know nothing about America and its history if you will vote for someone who wants to turn us into French-style socialist country.

Hey dumbo on the right, when we bailed out the banks it is called SOCIALISM...okay we are all communists. End of story

First, its not a bailout. That is what the media wants to call it. if you knew anything about the financial system and how the markets work, you would undrstand that. Also, this is going to help you as much companies. Obviously you are to stupid to realize that.

'Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrowmindedness,' said Mark Twain. Your narrowmindedness betrays your claim to travel. If you knew your American history than you would know that France is our natural ally. They were instrumental in helping us achieve independence. They have in many ways paralleled our search for a more perfect republic. They, like we, have incorporated many 'socialist' ideas into their social-cultural life when the failure of laissez-faire capitalism became apparent. They are ahead of us in universal health care but in time we will catch up.

The last time I looked at the TV it was George Bush a republican buying out banks, putting American tax payer money into failed corporations--money that they are now spending on vacations; while everyone's 401k's are going down the toilet. Do you even know what socialism is smart guy. I bet you don't even have a college degree--stop buying the line you are feed. Maybe one day you'll wake up.

Among the litany of his failure MCCain has two huge issues!
He advocated and pushed hard for the Iraq War- an unneeded war based on GOP subversion and duplicity.

Another huge problem, in 26 years of senatorial work McCain was a huge deregulator of financial and business institutions.
In other words McCain has his name all over the current economic/foreign crisis- in a sick and sad way, he has politically authored the current melt-down!

And what leadership does he offer from his campaign- he slips a Trojan Horse into our nation, into our homes, into our hectic lives better known as Sarah Palin.
She is more to "more to the right" than George "W" and Dick Cheney put together!

Another self-righteous reactionary-We just had eight years of such a regime!

    No more!
    No McCain!

Let me think. I can choose an old 72 year old with limited IQ and failed military service, including 5 crashed planes and 132 people killed on the USS Forrester due to wet-start antics, a hot dog routine that caused the jet behind him to launch a missle, right before he was scheduled to take off. Fortunately, his Dad was admiral of the Pacific fleet, and he was wisked away quickly and no charges have ever been filed. This war hawk that is matched with the female moose hunter and who knows who else and a war time economy.
I've always admired Biden and Obama is one sharp cookie by any measure, a leader and editor at Harvard.
I am a Vietnam era veteran and McCain and Palin are worst nightmares. We need some intelligence in the White House and restored confidence abroad, and intelligence is from hard efforts in education and work.
The Democratic Party got it right this time and Obama and Biden will make America proud again.

People on these bogs are fond of saying that the current economic meltdown was caused by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac underwriting bad mortgages. While Fannie and Freddie obviously are guilty of writing bad mortgages, and worse, guilty of lobbying Congress to allow them to do so with impunity, their actions are just a small piece of the puzzle when it comes to determining who (or what) caused the financial crisis we face today.

In 1929 the stock market crash caused the banks to fail, because the banks were in bed with the stock market. Back then, banks owned investment houses, so when the stock market fell, the banks fell too. This triggered the Great Depression. So in 1933 the Congress wrote laws that regulated banking, making it illegal for banks to own investment companies, mortgage guaranty companies or insurance companies. The idea was to keep key industries separated by a fire wall, so that if one industry failed the whole economy would not go down in flames.

But the Republicans under Bush deregulated the banking industry. Senator Phil Gramm wrote legislation (the Gramm Rudman Act, the Gramm Leach Biley Act, etc.) that stripped away the regulations in the financial and insurance industies. He pushed them through the Republican Congress and they were signed into law by Geo. W. Bush. John McCain voted in favor. Everybody said how great it is to deregulate and create free markets.

Lehman Brothers, Bear Stearns and Merrill Lynch each gave over a million dollars to Senator Gramm's re-election campaign.

The economic collapse that happened later was a direct result of the deregulation, and here's how: the banks wrote bad mortgages, then bundled the mortgages into investment vehicles that they sold all over the world, and they even got firms like AIG to insure the investments. It was all a house of cards.

If there had been no deregulation, sure we would have had a bunch of bad mortgages, and the mortgage guaranty and real estate industries would have suffered, but there would not have been a global financial meltdown, since the problem would have been contained in one sector of the economy. You can thank Geo W. Bush, Sen. Phil Gramm and Sen John McCain for the meltdown, since they were strong proponents of deregulation.

Furthermore, although Fannie and Freddie are now holding the bulk of these bad mortgages, Fannie and Freddie did not originally write most of these mortgages. They bought them after the fact, bundled by banks/investment companies. Fannie and Freddie got screwed by the Wall Street fat cats. And so did you, if you pay taxes.

What is Phil Gramm doing today? He works as a lobbyist in Washington, trying to make it legal for the Swiss bank he represents to sell Death Bonds in the United States. Nice guy, Phil Gramm. Incidentally, John McCain has said that he wants to appoint Phil Gramm as Treasury Secretary. Some people just can't learn from their mistakes.

You do realize that socialism has been tried before, and well look at France.

    • Posted By: r_doss @ 10/25/2008 12:03:32 PM

What's so wrong about France? At least everyone can go to the doctor over there. And the workers have longer vacations than here in the U.S. Sure, they have problems, but working people have more problems in this "free-market" paradise. Now the Rugged Individualists, the Social Darwinists, have had to cry to Nanny Government for gigantic welfare checks to help them recover. What a failure!

Funny that socialism is at an all time high since Bush came into office. Gov't can tap your phone lines. They give seniors medicare. They just gave a huge bailout. Boy, talk about socialism.

    • Posted By: no bigots here @ 10/25/2008 2:53:38 AM

Well it has been part of our country for many years too. How about the infusion of money into the banking system from we the people. Socialism at its best.

  • Posted By: freerunning @ 10/25/2008 10:22:48 AM

John Mccain and Barrack Obama, in spite of all the political rhetoric are not very different in their economic policies. Republicans have their bible thumpers. Democrats have those who are so liberal they would do away with all traditional American values. Neither extreme group on each side resents the core values of each party. Both presidential candidates are good men. Each thinks he will be a better president than the other. We are dealing with "a perfect storm" of threats to our country right now, with the economy, the very real threat of terrorism,, energy concerns, and global warming. Look at the issues, not the silly rhetoric, or the ideas of extremists on either side. Don't be afraid of either candidate. They both, like most of us, want what is best for Americ;a.

    • Posted By: r_doss @ 10/25/2008 11:46:03 AM

Freerunning: do you believe what you're saying? I highly recommend the book "The Wrecking Crew" by Thomas Frank. It spells out, very clearly, the objectives of conservatives to run up huge deficits and appoint cronies to key positions, all with the objective of de-fanging and de-funding the agencies meant to protect us from poisons, bad food, lead in toys, bad medicines and unclean air. No difference? Ha!

    • Posted By: Bass Pro @ 10/25/2008 10:56:23 AM

Freerunning, in all due respect, not much difference in economic policy?

Really? No difference between McCain's tax breaks for the big corporations including the oil companies that are swimming in cash and Senator Obama's tax breaks for the middle class working families?

No difference between McCain's here's about a third of the money you need for health care go shopping, you're on your own and Obamas Affordable Health for all?

No difference between McCain's ridiculous buy up all of the defaulted mortgages at face value and Senator Obama's buy the mortgages at current value and have those lenders suffer the losses that they caused?

Please reexamine your own rhetoric. The bible Thumpers, as you call them and the liberals are not the problem the country is faced with. The problem is with the Right Wing Republican President and those who share the stage with him, Cheney, Limbaugh, Hannity, Matelin, Buchanan, McCain, Palin, Bennett and those dispicable puppeteers who rule the big business world that pull their strings.

Time for a Change not more with MCSAME!

Some people are worried that Gov Paylin may become president. The real worry is that the 9% approval rating person after Gov Paylin may become president. In any event, number 3 will try to see if she can raise her ratings to 1/2 of President Bush.

    • Posted By: Bass Pro @ 10/25/2008 11:31:30 AM

Don't be suprised if Palin, when she returns home, isn't the subject of a corruption investigation. she had no problem reaching into donor's money for her own use. I doubt it's the first time especially when you consider that in Alaska corruption and bribery are taught in the public schools. It's a way of life for them.

      • Posted By: mrjungles @ 10/25/2008 11:41:48 AM

The thing with Palin is that she is obviously one of those folks who are so single-mindedly focused on whatever their ambition is, that the methods they are using just don't even enter their mind. Afterwards when you call them on it and try to explain to them how it was wrong and illegal etc. they act like the thought never netered their mind that what they were doing could be wrong. They are the type of person who has no shadow of a doubt that what they are doing is right, simply because it is them doing it. Nixon was like that, and GWB was like that as well. Let's hope she never has that kind of power ever.

  • Posted By: Tommypie @ 10/24/2008 11:25:45 PM

Don't be so sure Obama will win. The polls are allove the place. Some are at 1% oercent difference, some are at 12 and anything in between. I guess it matters who conducts the polls and how they phrase the questions. On election day the real polls will be realized and they may not necessaily be in Obama's favor. Just remeber Truman and Dewey in 1948. Truman was more or less left for dead and, oops, he emerged as the winner. Could happen again, definitely could happen again.

    • Posted By: mrjungles @ 10/25/2008 11:26:07 AM

You are absolutely right Tommypie, it COULD happen again. The only problem with your theory is that for what happened to Dewey to happen to Obama, almost half of the people who have registered this year as Democrats would have to suddenly change their vote to John McCain. Barring some kind of massive vote fraud, I really don't see that happening. This is a very different environment than the one in 1948, wwhen most of the country were independant, and chose at the last minute in national elections

    • Posted By: neos @ 10/24/2008 11:35:11 PM

Not really. RCP National Average 50.4 42.5 Obama +7.9
This is an average of all major polls out there. McCain is toast. Better you start gradually facing it now then setting yourself up for heartache later.
Statistics have come a long ways since Dewey days.

CANADIANS HAVE REALIZED THAT SOCIALISM DOES NOT WORK. WE JUST VOTED IN A PROGRESSIVE CONSERVATIVE GOVERNMENT AGAIN. IT???S THE EQUIVALENT TO YOUR REPUBLICAN PARTY. CANADIANS ARE GETTING FED UP WITH RISING TAXES TO SUPPORT SOCIAL PROGRAMS LIKE EMPLOYMENT INSURANCE AND WELFARE. THESE ARE PROGRAMS WITH GOOD INTENTIONS BUT THEN TOO MANY PEOPLE BOTHERED NOT LOOKING FOR WORK AND OTHERS WERE CHEATING THE SYSTEM JUST TO COLLECT "FREE" MONEY.
OUR ECONOMY STARTED SUFFERING, THE MIDDLE CLASS WAS BEING SQUEEZED AND BUSINESSES WERE DOWNSIZING OR CLOSING. THATS WHAT HAPPENS WITH SOCIALISM WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT OBAMA WANTS TO IMPOSE ON THE USA...AT THE WORST POSSIBLE ECONOMIC TIME ON TOP OF THAT....OBAMA IS ABSOLUTELY NUTS !! HE'S GONNA SMASH THE USA TO BITS!
AND YES, SAME PROBLEMS WITH OUR HEALTHCARE SYSTEM. WE KEEP PUMPING IN TAX DOLLARS YET THE GOVERNMENT IS MESSING IT UP AND THE UNIONIZED WORKERS IN THE HOSPITALS ARE LAZY AND PROVIDE LOUSY SERVICE. IN CANADA YOU ARE STARTING TO SEE PRIVATE MEDICAL CLINICS OPENING UP WHERE CANADIANS WITH MONEY CAN GO FOR IMMEDIATE HEALTHCARE. MORE OFTEN,
CANADIANS WHO CAN AFFORD IT GO TO THE STATES FOR IMMEDIATE HIGH QUALITY HEALTH CARE BECAUSE IF THEY STAY HOME AND WAIT THEY WOULD DIE.
CANADIANS VOTED A GOVERNMENT THAT IS ON THE RIGHT TWO TIMES IN A ROW NOW. WE KNOW SOCIALISM DOES NOT WORK.....DON'T KNOW WHAT ON EARTH THE AMERICANS ARE DOING GOING DOWN THE SOCIALIST PATH DURING THIS ECONOMIC CRISIS OF ALL THINGS. OBAMA IS A VERY UNWISE RADICAL....BETTER WAKE UP FOLKS BEFORE ITS TOO LATE...AND THAT???S NO JOKE.

I see you took my advice from yesterday and brushed-up a bit on your Canadian politics... Too bad you left out the part about the conservatives only getting a minority government in the past two elections, because the Canadian people were afraid to give them any power, in case they were as Bush-loving as they seemed to be. As for your argument that Canadians all 'hate their healthcare and yearn for the American system' -What a load of BS! Recently the country had a vote for it's 'Greatest Canadian'... Guess who it was? TOMMY DOUGLAS? Do you even know who that is Mr. Concerned Canadian? -THE GUY WHO IMPLEMENTED THE UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE PROGRAM IN CANADA. So if everyone htes it so much, and they are all jumping ship to the US to prevent an inevitible death, why would they be celebrating teh guy who got them into this 'mess' in the first place? Why don't you give your nickel's worth of free advice to your fellow Canadians and leave these nice Americans alone. They seem to be doing fine without your help.

The Bible warns us that the Anti Christ will appear as one who is a believer and who is one of us. The proverbial wolf in sheeps clothing. Such is Christians when it comes to decency, the constitutional rights we all should have and the right to free speech. Holy crap Batman!! It's another Christian screaming about the right to beart arms but calling everyone else a communist for not wanting to be a racist, ignorant, uneducated hick just like them!!!
