Thanks George W Bush- you did one hell of a job!
McCain /Bush- theological brothers of the same cloth!

Comment: MCCain has huge issues! So now he says he will balance the budget, now he says Bush was a failure etc. etc.
John is a dollar short and a day late! His theology has destroyed our nations equity and its future!
He strongly advocated and pushed hard for the Iraq War- an unneeded war based on GOP subversion and duplicity. The huge loss of life and equity will haunt the nation for generations to come!
Another monumental problem, in 26 years of senatorial work McCain was a huge deregulator of financial and business institutions.
McCain has his name all over the current economic/foreign crisis- in a sad pathetic way, he used his senior senator status and politically authored the current melt-down!
And what leadership does he offer from his campaign- he slips a Trojan Horse into our nation, into our homes, into our lives better known as Sarah Palin.
She is more to "more to the right" than George "W" and Dick Cheney put together!
A self-righteous reactionary- we just had eight years of such a regime!
No more!
No McCain!
Next Tuesday can't come soon enough!
Foreign Policy Goals:
1. Close all foreign bases and bring all US troops home.
2. Nuke Israel.
Bad idea.
Better ideas:
1. Reduce the number of foreign bases in countries our alliances are not strong with, as this tends to create hostility.
2. Pursue greater cooperation and trade policies with neutral nations in order to extend economic (not military) influence in the area and introduce a deterrent of lost prosperity should factions in the area attack the U.S.
3. Go back to the Powell Doctrine and end wars without definable metrics.
Honestly, the asymmetrical wars we face these days are frequently won by taking the money one would spend on bombs and spending it instead on local farms, schools, and markets of the region. The local populace tends to be genuinely grateful for the prosperity and far less likely to aid rogue factions in the region.
I personally do not believe most asymmetrical wars can ever be "won" in the military region alone. While I certainly recognize the value of our armed forces (sh1t, I signed up for the Navy), I believe our military should work with more economists as to how to use prosperity to build alliance and goodwill in the cities regions where rogue factions are hostile to us - in order to help SAVE American lives by reducing the number of conflicts our troops face.
(idly wonders if his International Security professor from university would approve)
Gruh? Did someone moderate this? I could have sworn Lori posted something pithy about how my strategy wouldn't have worked "against the Nazis" or something, and I had a whole post about post-World-War-I German reparations, the relative power level of Germany in the 1930s compared to Afghanistan (for example), and the symmetrical as opposed to the asymmetrical nature of the wars in question.
Now it's gone?
No. 2 is what worries me. Obama has yet to explain his thinking in his associations with radicals, socialists, anti Americans and anti semites. Until he gives a believable answer which he hasn't, he does not have my vote.
No. 2 is precisely what worries me. I'll never vote for obama until he explains his associates. Why was he with them if he didn't think like them? Ayers, Wright, Farrakhan, Davis, Rezko, etc. You are what you think. Younger voters don't realize what haters like these can cause and I would want to know why he associated with them and NO, he hasn't answered it yet.
I guess you wan the world to end then?
This article does a good job discussing what issues need to be examined in the coming years, but does not answer how those issues can be resolved. How can health benefits be linked to trade? What can we use as a barganing chip in our negotiations with Iran? How can we convince them that a nuclear program is not in their best interest? If Pakistan is a harbor of saftey for many terrorists, how can we reduce terrorism in that country without military action against Pakistan? How can we justify military action against other soverign nations without military action in Pakistan.? This article leaves more questions than answers
This story does a fine job of listing all the challenges, but it then reverts to the tired, failed solutions, especially in foreign relations. When will this country realize that "negotiations" with those who have no intention of compromise or resolution only lead to our constantly giving in to them? The Palestinians are the best case to point this out. It is time to stop "negotiating" and let Israel make choices about boundaries, etc. The Palestinians have abused the peace process all along; it's time to cut them off. We cannot control Iran or North Korea, and Pakistan is not our ally. It's time to get real and accept the fact that these countries are going to do what they want. On the other hand, Russia and China have a vested interest in reigning in these states. Force them to deal with these rogue states by stepping back.
We need to stop viewing ourselves as the saviors of the world. That worked after WW II, and we had a key role in the Cold War. Those times are past. Let the other major powers step up, while we step back.
If Obamaweek and its associated media flunkies have their way, Obama will be the nightmare on Pennsylvania Avenue
I wouldn't wish the Presidency on my worst enemy.
From day one the next President will more unpopular every day because of events beyond his control, and unless laws are changed to ensure a second term, he will only serve one term because of his failures.
However, given the importance of the job we should be very sure about who we elect.
I am not a McCain fan and don't wish to 'smear' Obama but his refusal to come clean is what should raise major concerns.
Was he a member of an extreme left wing/communist group several years ago?
"Yes".
He says "no" but there are documents and photographs that show he's lying.
He could say "yes, but I've seen the error of my ways .." or whatever, but he chooses to lie instead.
Why?
http://obamafarleft.notlong.com
He has gone to extraordinary lengths to cover up his past and was careful to keep written opinions to an absolute minimum.
http://nopapertrail.notlong.com/
There is proof of his connections to Jihad and the Muslim brotherhood.
http://jihadconnection.notlong.com/
The list could go on and on but the above should be more than enough to cause people to demand clarifications, and it is Obama's supporters that should be the first to demand explanations as they are the ones that intend to vote for him.

"It was a celebration of Palestinian culture -- a night of music, dancing and a dash of politics. Local Arab Americans were bidding farewell to Rashid Khalidi, an internationally known scholar, critic of Israel and advocate for Palestinian rights, who was leaving town for a job in New York."
So you translate "advocate for Palestinian rights" as "pro-suicide-bomber"?
This is just more of the same godd4mn argument the Republicans have been making all year, which is guilt by association. "You should judge a man by everyone he's ever spent time with". It's a logical fallacy and frequently a disguise for prejudice.
The links you mentioned aren't SOURCES. They're blogs that are unsourced themselves, not articles from periodicals with journalistic traditions. I don't believe all user-created news is invalid, but it has a MASSIVELY greater tendency to fail to verify facts or vet sources or to separate reporting from editorializing.
We collectively need a greater understanding of what the principles of debate are in this country.
Reading some of the comments below (and most of the stories this summer), this is what the Republicans aren't getting - coming to left-leaning boards just to find people to insult and scream at is not making them any more popular. Coming to other people's towns just to protest and scream in their faces about gay marriage and illegal immigration and threaten them and lie to the police - and it's happened in the town I'm living in - is not making them any more popular.
The right-wing groups these days remind me of domestic terrorists as much as the Weathermen ever did - including the "Minutemen" "patrolling" the border who are actually shooting and murdering illegal immigrants outside of the rule of law.
The Minutemen ARE actually considered a terrorist group by the military:
http://www.milnet.com/domestic/data/scm.htm .
The Weathermen only ever blew themselves up and never managed to kill anyone outside of their own groups. By contrast, I've seen at least two credible threats against Obama's life - the one in the news at the McCain/Palin rally and one on a right-wing anti-illegal-immigration board - from right-wing extremists. And I believe the "Minutemen" have actually killed illegal immigrants. Many have advocated the use of snipers to pick people off at the border.
I think there's a very credible argument that the right is *far* more connected with DOCUMENTED, CURRENT domestic terrorism than any connection Obama has to a terrorist who gave it up years ago. I've seen the extremists physically threaten people in my presence, including a 16-year-old girl who just came up to disagree with them. They're absolutely ruthless in their desire to discredit and harm their opponents.
Looking at how many people on both sides of the argument are behaving like cult followers for their party, Putin need not do anything. He can just sit back and let the US implode.
Yeah, it was kind of Bin Laden's plan too.
The next President has a daunting task, what is sad about it is, it will be in all likelyhood a four year term.
It will be impossible to undo in four years what the Republicans have done to America over the last forty years.
Yet the Voters will expect nothing less.
While Bush is a blooming idiot and a bald faced lier a fact most of the country knows all too well.
While Bush will soon be gone, the people who elected him will not, they will be right there in the voting booth trying hard to get America back into the toilet and keep it there.
40 years?? That would go back to 1968.
You are forgetting Jimmy Carter and BJ Clinton. Two bright spots in history, eh?

Interesting how deftly you sidestep Barry's insistence that the Constitution supports Socialism, eh?
When you rob Peter to pay Paul, you always get the cooperation of Paul.
There hasn't been a Democrat majority in Washington since 1965, and before that, 1933. It looks like we are about to see another such event take place. By November 5, 2008 both houses of Congress and the Presidency will be in Democratic hands.
For those readers who can think for themselves, think back to 1965. Kennedy and the Civil Rights movement. A pivotal time in our history, one we can all be proud of. And 1933, when FDR gave us the New Deal and turned around the Great Depression. If you think about the past century, the only two times that we have had a liberal Democrat majority, America got STRONGER and BETTER.
Obama '08
You must be a high school student who can't do research or and olde geezer who is approaching alzheimers.
No demo crat majorities between 33 and 65?
You must be kidding! Truman had two kennedy and johnson had 4 1961-1968
and none since? carter had two and clinton had one.
BTW fdr did not get us out of the depression, WW II did. Apparently they did not teach you about the recession of 1937 and the Supreme Court overturned numerous New Deal provisions.
BTW anyone who has respect for Jon Corzine must only get his talking points from the DNC-DSA, because Corzine's ratings are dropping and 3 times as many people are saying Jersey is going in the wrong direction. Corzine may know how to make money, but he cannot manage it as we are in debt and he is raising taxes, which is driving businesses out.
BTW if 56 Million people do not pay taxes, how do you give them a tax cut?
Answer: You take it out of my pocket and give it to them.
The bottom 20% (less than 20K or so) get back 2.5% of the tax dollar. No mater what you call it, money back to non-taxpayers is welfare or a hand out.
These are indeed exciting times. Pity the neocons are going to hand over such a broken nation for us to work with....
Oh, Boy - I see Soros again. Why can't the Europeans leave us alone. As to Pakistan- any one could have told you that 40 years ago. They ar e the remnants of the Moghul/Mongol empire. By aligning to the Pakistanis has resulted in a worsening situtuation since then. We should cut bait and let them go on their own. Other countries who have Pakistani and Somali immigrants should also worry
If the Iran conflict stalelizes after all the years and American lives dedicated to it will the current president
get all the credit? And another question if the President needs advisors to guide him what exactly is he needed for?
When I began reading this article, I was encouraged to think it may be fair and balanced and objective. But I can see by the buzz words used here that Newsweek is still promoting Obama as President.
The world will certainly sit by and watch the United States IMPLODE and DISINTEGRATE like SAND, just like the Twin Towers on 911 when this Presidency occurs.
There will be social unrest if this man is elected or not elected. Instead of black against white it will be DEMOCRACY versus SOCIALISM if he is elected. Instead of Democracy versus Socialism if he is not elected, we will have cities burned down and chaotic unrest.
I don't like this man because of the ADORATION of the MASSES and the INFOMERCIAL of change. Yes, things are going to CHANGE all right, and his presence and ambition are too costly.
And isn't it wonderful to have such an inspirational leader as Barack Obama again. Over 100,000 in Colorado! Not since JFK has the country been this moved. And we will need his inspirational leadership to clean up the mess that the neocons have left us..
Perhaps you should research the kennedy tax cut.

About half way through the article.
And he didn't use divide and conquer tactics, the corner stone of neocons.
He got us to the moon... He helped us believe in ourselves as a nation again. He helped heal us after the divisive McCarhty era.
MCCain can't fill a high school auditorium.

Every item in this letter overwhelmingly favors the political gifts of Obama, and highlights how lucky this country is that his brilliant campaign has saved us from the utter fiasco that a McCain administration would have been. McCain would have finished the job of ruining American foreign policy, and America itself, so ably begun by Bush and his fool neocon handlers.
Obama, The Dems and the MEDIA have clearly oversold and overpromised on Obama. Anything short of walking on water and Obama will be considered a failure and based on his actual record of legislative accomplishment I don't see him walking on water anything soon..
Superb overview -- balanced, thoughtful and reader-friendly. Richard H. should be part of that Oval Ofc as classrm.
