We???ve already seen the kind of chaos cultural conservatives are willing to marshal, in order to feel more ???right??? about themselves. Do you really think another term or two of this kind of idealism is better for the health of the country? Look at the Iranian people. A few more Bush/Palin kind of terms, and by looking at Iran, you are looking forward into your future. This is not hyperbole or conjecture. High-minded idealists are narcissists cloaked in folksy clothing (pun intended). They are out of balance, and do not mind dragging others down in order to continue feeding their own depravities by feeling that they are ???right.???

Stories like this, which have been showing up with "undisclosed sources in the McCain camp-"
    Totally irresponsible journalism.
It's no longer just okay for the left-wing media to be "in the tank" for BO- now they have to invent stories about the polls, Palin, dissention in the Party itself.

The Silent Majority is going to make a come-back this election.
And all the twisted stories and lies and dirty tricks will not silence the voice of the American people when we vote McCain-Palin Nov 4th- or earlier.

Just pray that ACORN hasn't succeded in stuffing the ballot boxes.

If you have early voting in your state- take advantage of it and avoid long lines that might discourage you from voting at ALL.
And- for those folks who are thinking about "voting your heart" and want to write in Hillary, Huckabee, Nader, Barr, Baldwin, Romney-
please don't waste your precious vote.
It's a 2 party system- it will be either BO or McCain on Nov. 4th.
And we have to cast REAL ballots to count against the illegal ACORN "fraud votes."

Why do sports and politics inspire such a constant sea of speculation. Or rather, why do they inspire confidence in commentators to make public their inner ruminations. While maybe better than par, this commentary veers off into la la land of the unknown. There is so much that's so pressing and critical right now before us. And while it's good to look ahead to grasp the lay of the land, why not consider instead what might happen to politics given differing responses to the energy and environmental and economic crises before us. We need to spend our intellectual capital considering these issues and their out workings.

I personally don't want to see another Pat Buchanan, regardless of gender, on the political scene. Another bigot who doesn't know the economic reality (just as the experts at the Federal Reserve) that immigrants, legal or otherwise, are a net gain for our economy). In fact, immigrants now getting none of their taxes back if they used a fake SS# will soon be going back off the books, causing a real drain. We don't need that.

If the authors intention was to strike fear into the heart of the reader, he has certainly succeeded with me...fear and loathing. But my gut tells me Ms. Palin will hang around and spout from her new found balcony seat, mostly ineffectually, somewhat like a Jesse Jackson or a Pat Buchanan. She doesn't have the mettle to hold up in a professional fight, but she may manage to stretch her 15 minutes into a career. Americans aren't that easily duped and given time to examine the subtleties of Sarah's game will put her out of the main arena.

McCain would have a better chance if he would have selected Tina Fey instead of Palin

We???ve already seen the kind of chaos cultural conservatives are willing to usher, in order to feel more ???right??? about themselves. Do we really think another term or two of this kind of idealism can only be better for the health of the country? Look at Iran people. Another term of two of Bush/Palin type of leadership, and you are looking forward into the future. Fortunately this organ between our ears can also be used for other kinds of predictions.

There's not much the GOP can do to win the election in 4 years time. The election will be won or loss by Obama on the strength of how the next 4 years go. The economy wont be sour for 4 years, so chances are he'll be able to point to the fact that he's righted the economy. The inexperience argument will also be off the table.
Your idea of a Republican coalition composed of the Christian Right and an anti-immigration movement is an intriguing strategic proposal. But are you considering the fact that minority populations are growing and that by 2040 or so 50% of US citizens will be minorities? Your plan pretty much ignores minorities, such a strategic vision would seem to be suicide to me.

Maybe the people of Alaska will impeach her, and we won''t have to concern ourselves with her or her stupidity.

I disagree. Come November 5th, Palin is as dead politically as Dan Quayle, Lloyd Bentsen, Bob Dole or any number of forgettable VP candidates. She's had her 15 minutes of fame. Her shelf life is beyond expired. Trust me, she ain't no Barry Goldwater or Moses, leading the shocked remnants of the Republican's towards their long, well-deserved exodus to the desert of a reactionary minority for a generation or so. Ding-Dong, that witch is going to be DEAD come November 5th, for now and forevermore. Thank God and Amen. God Bless America.

Just imagine how much stronger McCain's position would be right now if he had picked Tom Ridge of Pennsylvania or Christy Todd Whitman of New Jersey.

McCain got too cute by picking a woman--any woman--thinking he could pick up Hillary's voters.

One of the biggest screwups in American political history.

There is nothing DUMB about wanting a safe, secure, productive country--BORDERS are essential to that. Biden warned us... so remember NOTHING MATTERS MORE THAN THIS: Hamas Praises Obama Again -- and Biden, Too.
FABULOUS! Ahmed Yousef says that the terrorist group would send Obama a congratulation letter "the moment he will win the election."

That will be the demise of the grand old party then as it will be totally hijacked by the right. People for the most part want centrist government, not right wing or left wing. I would love to see the return of Rockefeller Republicans!

Why not dump the GOP and run under the abolitionist party? ;)

We can imagine what $150,000 can buy. I have been unable to find work for 14 mos and could have used a part of that $150K to pay my mortgage. Sarah says the clothes "aren't hers" and will be "taken back" or "donated". Doubt Saks or NM want clothing back that has been worn. But, good point from John. Why not interview Wm Ayers? I am more interested in how he went from a violent radical to a respected professor than I am his relationship with Obama.

The headline reads:"Palin costumes fly off store shelves". yes, the "Moose " costume is very popular this year

What a hit piece. Caribou Barbie? Comparing her to Pat Buchannan? Is this the DailyKos or Newsweek? The two seem indistinguishable lately.

The problem isn't "head vs. heart." The McCain campaign's whole problem, from the start, has been "head up butt" ??? relying on the same old strategy of distraction with personal attacks and hot-button scare words. Sure, it worked for a long time, but they've done it to death. Now, most people are finally seeing that rhetoric did not become action, it replaced action. That makes them more skeptical of the improbable tales concocted about Obama. It took years, but the day has finally come.

Yet that's all McCain has relied on, because by spending so much time manufacturing controversies, the Republican party has spent precious little effort on reality-based policies. Now they're out of time, out of money, have no rocks left to throw ??? and no solid issues to fall back on, even if he belatedly realized the need.

Here is the only way I would like to see Palin again.. On the losing side of the ticket of Obama and Hillary in 2012.. Hillary will take the baton in 2016 but Palin will be long gone by then.. The GOP has dumbed itself down but hopefully it will not have the opportunity to do that with an administration run by the likes of Sarah Palin, spouting her phony religious talk and then destroying the country. from the inside out.. Just like W. all over again.

    Reply to "Britanicus":

America owes itself to IMMIGRANTS. It's a land built by immigrants.

NONE of the original Pilgrims were "legal immigrants".

Furthermore, in Mexico, there are millions, at any one time, of USA citizens living and being there ILLEGALLY: Retired people, people doing business, selling, buying, and also crooks hiding from the law, crooks of sex-crime types, including pedophiles, drug addicts, alcoholics, and drug dealers of organized crime, and of disorganized crime too.

There are a few such Brits, too!
