    Mr. Alter:

It is most appropriate that your Newsweek photograph is dark and sinister. The photographer is to be commended for capturing the essence of your soul. Your commentary in ???Between the Lines??? (Newsweek, November 3, 2008) is hateful, shadowy, partisan and baseless bile. In my lifetime ??? which began in 1952 ??? the average difference in popular votes cast in presidential elections is 7.3 million. It appears that President-Elect Obama will win the popular vote by 7.2 million ballots: a very typical result. Granted, each of these 15 elections focused on current crises that arose in the ebb and flow of life on this planet. But I would point out, Mr. Alter, that there are two primary parties that make up our American political system ??? Democrats and Republicans. There are two parties ??? read carefully - because they hold different views on the appropriate way to govern. They generally differ sharply on issues of economics, taxes, welfare programs, military preparedness, the size of government and social issues ??? to name a few. This has been, and presumably will always be, the case. I have no doubt that votes were cast in this election based on the color of Mr. Obama???s skin ??? both for and against. That you would attribute any ballot not cast for him a racist vote ??? as you clearly did in this ???commentary??? - is inflammatory and inexcusable. There are myriad ideological reasons that 56 million citizens voted for Senator McCain rather than President-Elect Obama. The last sentence of your article suggests that those counted in that number lack common sense and are indecent. You, Mr. Alter, are indecent.

No doubt McCain has some kind of immigration skeletons hanging in his Arizona closet or this issue would ahve been raised in a HUGE way long before now. My father was one of 18 children born here in the United States and I ahve no idea where some of my aunts and uncles are living or how they are getting on. Both Senators have been in office long enough to have done something to fix illegal immigration problems if either had the political will to do so. As far as I can see, in this specific case, the problem rests more with enforcement of deportation orders and the Boston Housing Authority than it has anything to do with Senator Obama.

Keep on rationalizing Obama's problems. The point is that bambi promises everything for everyone, but forgets family. Hispanics don't forget family, but he (a US senator) could solve this issue with a phone call. He doesn't care about his aunt, his brother in Kenya, all his promises, and the gullible Americans who believed his illusions. May God bless America!

Am I to understand you correctly Alter? That you are accusing almost half of America of racism if Obama loses the election which he won't. You are the most pathetic excuse for a journalist that I've ever seen and people that think like you and think they have a divine right to judge others by what they want to see are an abomination to the already pathetic excuse for journalism that exists in this country. You deserve to have your subscriptions go down to the nether regions for your arrogant and insulting accusations. I can't wait for you to begin to whine about the divisions in this country. Divisions that nuts like you have done your best to encourage.

    • Posted By: Jose52 @ 11/04/2008 5:05:53 PM

No he did not say racism caused bamba to lose, but only the ignorant Americans who are guilty of history of black suppresion. The media is blind for Obama. Spread the bs and your wealth.

And you should realize, hoffedoodoo, that the most racist, hypocritical, bigots are Dems like yourself and Alter. You talk of McCain's only possible way to win the election is through racist voters. You have a candidate who played the race card himself because it wasn't being done by McCain (remember the "They're gonna tell you I don't look like other Presidents" line?).You talk of racism yet defend Obama when it comes to Jeremiah Wright. The list goes on and on and it's been said over and over that I am getting bored typing it.

Your statements about Foxholes is interesting. What should we label those who listen to Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews, Rachel Maddow,Stephanie Miller, Ed Schultz, Thom Hartmann, Bill Press, and the many others who speak with such hatred and disrespect that they should be bitch slapped on Mainstreet. My assumption is you are fine with those just mentioned but those who listen to FOX are stupid and incapable of independent thinking.

The truth of this election is you have such hatred toward GWB that you are willing to support a racist Muslim candidate and have no regard for what the long term ramifications are as long as he is elected. I wonder how many of you will regret your vote a year from now.

If you truly invested time informing yourself about Obama you could not possibly come to the conclusion that he is the best candidate for the job. A man who in his own book admits he prefers to associate with MARXIST professors, professes his commitment to his Muslim faith in times of trouble. Not my words, his. Your turning a blind eye to the truth is putting our country in a potentially dangerous position.

I think you're just a typical ignorant Dem.that drives a foreign car with an Obama sticker on it to Wal-Mart after stopping for a soy latte. Then, you bitch about how the American worker is being screwed by the rich CEO as soon as you drive out of the parking lot.

Be a patriot, vote McCain/Palin, if not for yourself for your children!!

You should realize, mickeyj, that spouting off bigoted remarks prefaced by wistful hopes of more death in the world only serve to reinforce the stereotype of the LIVs mentioned in Alter's article. Frankly, the minority of us who actually invest the time informing ourselves are sick and tired of arguing with nimrods who scream bloody murder about Karl Marx, but couldn't pick him out of a lineup. Essentially, there are only two kinds of people who are Foxholes (i.e., avid and exclusive watchers of Fox "News" Channel): Those who are willfully ignorant, and those who are unwillingly ignorant such that they do the bidding of the former, carrying water for the people who have convinced them that there is nothing more American than shopping at WalMart, being a drooling lard-ass NASCAR fan listening to the "country" equivalent of Britney Spears, and living in abject fear covered by self-righteous indignation of people different from oneself, whether because they actually should or because they just don't know what else to think because they haven't yet been told by Rush/Sean/BillO/etc.

Senator McCain you are no hero, you are in fact a terrorist.

Your campaign advisor & "Transition Chief" William Timmons was a Saddam Hussein lobbyist for 5 years.
You pal around with Gordon Liddy, domestic terrorist.
You are a member of "The Project for a New American Century" - a radical extremist terrorist organization.
Your VP candidate's husband Todd Palin is a domestic terrorist in the Alaskan Independence Party.
You accuse Obama of knowing Rashid Khalidi, yet you yourself have given Rashid Khalidi & the PLO $500,000.00!!! So by your logic, if Obama is a terrorist sympathizer like you claim, then you Senator McCain are a state spronsor of terrorism. You are, by your own twisted logic, a terrorist by your own admittance.
You have met with Chilean Dictator Pinochet, a terrorist.
You're coordinated effort to use FOX NEWS, the Bush Administration, your campaign, Sarah Palin, and The Justice Department to commit voter fraud, voter intimidation, & voter suppression is an act of terrorism.

John McCain you are a disgrace to your uniform.

Hey, Cameljockey, what's your beef with FOX News? Aren't they the ones with Hannity and Colmes? Isn't Colmes an ultra liberal? Aren't you treehugging wackos the ones with ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, BET,CNN, and others? Do Matthews and Olbermann and Couric and Lauer and the rest ever share their set with a conservative? So don't give me that crap about right wing television because it doesn't exist.

Face it towelhead, if Obama wasn't black and the media treated him like other politicians he'd be on welfare like the rest of them.Wright, Ayers, too many others to mention. Supporting Obama is the definition of ignorance flaunting!!!

Not likely since the corrupt Rebulican Secretaries of State in two battleground states are gone (Blackwell in Ohio and Harris in Florida). If we can overwhelmingly get Obama into office maybe we have a chance to clean up the process once and for all.

  • Posted By: Nowforsomemoretruth @ 11/03/2008 10:58:49 PM

The problem with Obama is a simple one. One association does not a radical make. But in Obama's case, the list of left-wing radical mentors and associates is seemingly endless, (Davis, Ayers, Wright, Khalidi , etc., etc.) with a new revelation practically every day. With that trend, a picture begins to emerge, and that picture is that Obama is as steeped, not in just left-wing political thought, but in radical left-wing economic and race ideology, to the same extent that Pat Robertson was steeped in the ideology of the radical Religious Right. I would not have voted for Pat Robertson for dog catcher, and for similar reasons, I will not vote for Obama.

  • Posted By: Nowforsomemoretruth @ 11/03/2008 10:15:07 PM

In the exchange with "Joe the plumber" Obama unintentionally revealed that he really is as radical as his early political mentors and acquaintances, Davis, Ayers, Wright, Khalidi etc., (gee, there sure seem to be a lot of them) and that he is into the failed economic policy of wealth redistribution. Now there is absolute proof. In 2001, Obama, the "community organizer" turned legislator, said in an interview:

"And I think one of the tragedies of the civil rights movement was that the civil rights movement became so court-focused, I think there was a tendency to lose track of the political and organizing activities on the ground that are able to bring about the coalitions of power through which you bring about redistributive change, and in some ways we still suffer from that,"

    2001 Chicago Public Radio Interview.

Obama's tax and spending plans alone would be bad enough, but add Reid and Pelosi to the mix, with the three of them controlling both houses of Congress and the executive branch without any effective restraint, and you have something that should causes concern even among moderate Democrats.
See Wall Street Journal: A Liberal Supermajority:

    http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122420205889842989.html

Indeed, some democrats are publically saying as much. See Barney Franks comments on the news, including face the nation last week, stating essentially that Democrats in Congress intend to greatly raise taxes and go on a spending spree.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJGnSAlqjoU

    See http://www.taxfoundation.org/blog/show/23617.html

Obama's ill-conceived programs will require him to tax, and his health care plan alone is a substantial hidden tax on all business, large an small. In reality, it does not really matter who he taxes, those taxes are going to be passed through the economy. He has to tax, because it is they only way he can pay for his massive social engineering experiments. Any first year economics student knows that taxation is a tool used to contract an economy experiencing inflation, because it reduces demand by reducing the amount of money individuals and businesses have to spend. It is contractionary, which is exactly what you do not want to do when the problem is that the economy is contracting already into recession. Like Hoover and FDR, Obama's plans will only make it worse for longer.

What is most troubling in todays political climate is the promotion of hatred as a philosophy. The emergence of an ultraconservative dogma relies increasingly on the encouragement of mass hostility aimed at one group in particular - Americans with progressive political views. Liberals are spoken of with the kind of dripping contempt and virulent hostility that used to be associated with racism and sectarian religious strife. Liberals are viewed not fellow Americans citizens concerned with the future of their country, but as ideological enemies that need to be destroyed - and eaten if possible. This view is fundamentally anti-American.

This right-wing sect manifests a complete lack of empathy toward other Americans whom it defines as its ideological enemies. Its core beliefs are absolutely impervious to reason and are unleashing ugly and violent impulses. What makes their zeal so dangerous for our country is their willingness to do serious damage to our precious American Democracy in their quest for absolute power.

You honestly believe what you've written? If you do, I must ask you where you've been living this past 20 years or so. Just to cite the most recent chapter in the sorry history of the liberals (major media and the Democratic Party), look what the did to Sara Palin. The assaults on her were psychotic in there intensity and irrelevance and they continue. Comedienne Sarah Bernhard warned Palin that she would be "gang-raped by my big black brother" if she campaigned in Manhattan. Just a potty-mouth funny woman? Then what about Rep. Alcee Hastings, who told an audience of Jewish Democrats in Florida that "anybody toting guns and stripping moose don't care too much about what they'd do with Jews and blacks"? Or Rep. Charles Rangel, who prefaced a discussion of Pain by saying "You got to be kind to the disabled." Some Democrats, when pressed, backed off: Rangel said he should have called Pain disadvantaged." From your post, I must assume you are not offended by these assaults, else you couldn't believe the twaddle you wrote.

Dromara, you are part of what is wrong with the Republican party as it now stands. The poster cited her source, and you accuse her of writing "twaddle. " Do you not understand what a citation is? I agree with her, and Al Gore, completely on this, and my vote will be counted as a Florida Republican for Obama!

Well, how do you defend the public ridicule of Sarah Palin? Or do ou turn the proverbial progressive-liberal, Bush derangment synrome blind eye to it while laying such behavior at the foot of McCain. Please quote me ANY public figure slandering and ridiculing Obama or Biden like we see coming from the public DEMS, from SNL, from MSNBC with its nearly daily coverage of celebrity quotes. from CNN news anchors.

Ah yes: the book written by the guy who thinks he invented the internet, the one who still thinks Bush stole the 2000 election from him, the guy who produced the celluloid fable: An Inconvenient Truth, oh yea, he won a Nobel Peace Prize, oh well so did Arafat. That Al Gore??!! What a pompous clown.I'd be ashamed to cite such a fool. The book is a mish-mash of Gore's theories about the degraded role of reason in society, plus an extended rant about his disagreement with the Bush administration. Big Al could better spend his time in trying to persuade people his positions are the wise and correct ones, instead of griping how he thinks they (people) are too unreasonable to agree with him. I found it rather that he complains about the major media. After all they are propagandist for the liberal lefties and have been for many years.; they have embraced the leftist agenda on everything.the trouble with this charlatan is he is still angry and upset that he didn't win the Presidency in 2000. If he had won hi own state the Presidency would have been his, but Tennessee didn't buy his snake-oil. Obviously you did; the con artist won. Incidently, you didn't answer my comments; don't you know what debate means?

Americans' should really think about what they are voting for at the upcoming election. Talk is cheap ... and both sides have certainly expressed personal rhetoric. However, one seriously needs to look at the obvious socialist dogma that Obama is contemplating. In 2001, he made remarks about the Supreme Court redistributing wealth. He has made inference to the founding fathers concerns being relevant for a time past, rather than the current times. This would imply that he trashes the ideas of limits to any one side of power. Make no mistake, should you cast a vote for Obama, you are siding with someone who plans to destroy democracy and replace it with socialism. Look around, many nations have tried this in other parts of the world, and such a system fails miserably, and sadly, it does nothign by limit the personal freedoms of people so governed. It appears that this nation will have the Democratic party controlling congress, the senate and now the highest office in this land, the presidency. God help us! With such unlimited power, they will manage to unravel over 200 years of ever-decreasing freedom, and replace it with a HUGE government who will attempt to regulate and manage every aspect of life for it's citizens. Any freedom you thought you might have will be gone FOREVER. Just think of how many rules and regulations they have already managed to sneak in without a popular vote. Change will come, but it won't be for the masses. It will give the ruling few the chance to enslave an entire population. Not just us, but for generations to come. Wake up America! Or, you may wishs to keep your weapons hand, or begin to sharpen sticks and rocks in the unlikely event that you will ever gather the courage to fight for freedom again. Wiser people may remember the old saying that the price of freedom is eternal vigilance! Think, before you cast your vote. Are you so willing to throw caution and your freedom away for this illusive change? Do you fully intend to align yourself with someone who fully intends to destroy the very premise this nation was built on? If so, be prepared to suffer with the choices you are making for the rest of your lives. Oh, would that common sense prevail before it is too late. The founding fathers risked EVERYTHING for freedom, they were considered traitors to the British Crown, and still they signed their names to the Declaration of Independence. Have you read it? Have you gone out and looked up the voting records of both candidates, studdied the issues? Or are you merely sheep ready to following anything and anyone that is different from what you think you want, or where the nation is going? Spend the next few days actuallly researching the records. THINK AND ACT before it is too late. Once this horse us unleased, the winds of change WILL sweep over this land, but is it really the type of change you want? THINK!

Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt issued a statement on the Obama campaign's "abusive use of Missouri Law enforcement." What was striking about the Gov's allegations was the parallel between the Obama Camp activity and the Organization of the Islamic Conference's effort to stifle all criticism of Islam also by means of legal intimidation, at the UN and elsewhere. Blunt charged that four Missouri state officials along with the leader of Obama's campaign in Missouri "have attached the stench of police state tactics to the Obama-Biden campaign." In declaring an intent to prosecute those who spread what they consider to be falsehoods about Obama, they were, said BLunt, "abusing the justice system and offices of public trust to silence political criticism with threats of prosecution and criminal punishment". Such behavior, said Blunt, was "scandalous beyond words." Obama and his supporters, he said, were trying to "frighten people away from expressing themselves, to chill free and open debate, to suppress support and donations to conservative organizations targeted by this anti civil rights effort, to strangle criticism of Mr. Obama, to suppress ads about his support of higher taxes, and to choke out criticism." If Barack Obama values free speech so little, it's not beyond the realm of possibility that if he becomes President he will acquiesce to the Organization of the Islamic Conference attempts to criminalize criticism of Islam, and pressure the Supreme Court to declare a "hate speech" exemption to the 1st Amendment protections. His longtime friend Rash-id Kahlil would just love that.

And lets not forget the Court, and decisioins like Kelo v. City of New London, 545 U.S. 469 (2005).

What does redistributive mean. Well, remember that it was the liberal Left-Wing Justices of the U.S. Supreme Court that brought us this little jewel, holding that the government could take your real property, like your home, not for public use like a road or school, but to give to another private individual, such as a political contributor or other party hack or interest group. You remember this one.

Kelo v. City of New London, 545 U.S. 469 (2005), was a case decided by the Supreme Court of the United States involving the use of eminent domain to transfer land from one private owner to another to further economic development. The case arose from the condemnation by New London, Connecticut, of privately owned real property so that it could be used as part of a comprehensive redevelopment plan. The Court held in a 5-4 decision that the general benefits a community enjoyed from economic growth qualified such redevelopment plans as a permissible "public use" under the Takings Clause of the Fifth Amendment. Justice John Paul Stevens wrote the majority opinion; he was joined by Justices Anthony Kennedy, David Souter, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen Breyer.

The decision was widely criticized by American politicians and the general public. Many members of the general public viewed the outcome as a gross violation of property rights and as a misinterpretation of the Fifth Amendment, the consequence of which would be to benefit large corporations at the expense of individual homeowners and local communities. Some in the legal profession construe the public's outrage as being directed not at the interpretation of legal principles involved in the case, but at the broad moral principles of the general outcome.

HOPE you are able to use that headline again on Nov. 5th for the sake of taking a look back. Failed policies indeed, to say nothing of the failed policies of redistributive socialism (ask Putin about that one). And do not confuse the Obama plan with charitable contributions or allocating assets in a disciplined democratic capitalist system. Remember his mentors, from Frank in Hawaii to Wright, Ayers and Rezko in Chicago, he has had a wide ranging, rich multicultural upbringing. So much so that he has become a chameleon.

Mc Cain is not going to win this election, end of discussion. He has run one of the dirtiest campaigns ever and most Americans, I believe, are sick of the negative slams from him and Palin. I think most Americans are put off by Palin and her shrill attack mode speeches and voice. The lies, deceit and inuendos have been outrageous. Joe the plumber indeed! He is a symbol for the business owners in this country who are making over $200,000. a year in personal income. There is no Joe sixpack or regular Joes in their plans. Only the well off and wealthy stand to profit from the McShame presidency. Trickle down economics has not worked in this country. Obama may not be the second coming of Abraham Lincoln but John McCain is the second coming of GWB!
