Hear Obama in 2001 Chicago Public Citizen Radio Interview criticizing the Warren Court as not radical enough for not pursuing redistribution of wealth.

Obama Says that community organizing is for the purpose of assembling the political power to force redistribution of wealth.

Actually if Obama wins, it will be a great thing for the Republican party that has lost its way.

I'm a Republican, a white, middle-aged, woman. I voted early in Florida.....for Obama/Biden at the top of the ticket and Republicans for everything below the top. My hope is that the Republican Party will get the message.....we want conservative economic policies that reflect a modern sensibility.....not the racist, ill-informed nonsense we hear especially from Palin.

It's a pity those low information voters ruin things every 4 years by voting. I think it's time for voters to have to pass an intelligent test in order to vote. Bill Kristol talked about low quality voters without realizing that his repugnant one's party's low information voters are the low quality voters. Ofcourse he thinks that poor people are the low quality voters whne in fact they are far more high quality voters than the evangelical christian lunatic fringe voters who brought us Raygunz, Bush and Bush.

Hey Jonathan excellent interview on The Colbert Report last week! Hope you do the rounds more often with Jon and Stephen. Tell Howard Fineman to take the Colbert plunge too.

I wonder why you are allowed to write such articles and what makes you think you that any of the information you type is even correct. For one as you mention the fact of people moving to democatic side to support Obama because they were Clinton followers because they were upset when McCain appointed Palin. Now this comes right after you state that the majority of us only vote based on racial issues and bias because we don't know anything about politics. How would that even make common sense. If I was a woman and only supported the female issue and was mad that Clinton lost the primary I would be happy to stay with rep party especially after they got me a woman vp, especially if what you were saying was true and I did not know all the information on the party platforms. I mean the simple issues like the fact that Clinton and Obama for one did not have the same policies so if I did support her woman or not, just because she told me to, I would not move to his camp. The poltics are the issue , and true to fact as we have seen in the last few weeks when they have been addressed in debates (amazing that we listen and read) obama has CHANGED (maybe that is what his change logo is about - he can change his plan at any moment- his tax plans. Especially when he was questioned about them. As to the simple question - Why do we hang up the phone when the survey people call our house? WE ARE AT HOME AFTER WORK WITH OUR FAMILIES and if this article is indication you really don't care what we think you have already decided that if Obama loses it will have nothing to do with the poor political race, environmental issues he has planned, or terrible foreign policy. I hung up the phone on your survey and will not vote early but my family will vote McCain/Palin - We support our Military !

What a stupid thing to say. How sad. I am a veteran and when I was in the military, I did what I was told. I followed orders. That's what our soldiers are doing. It is what they are supposed to do. Risking their lives and losing their lives for greed and vengeance of others is a disgrace and the fact that a politician such as McCain would imply that to leave Iraq would be a dishonor to them is just plain awful. McCain thinks this is Vietnam. Gimme a break.

      • Posted By: 4astrongamerica @ 10/27/2008 1:55:37 PM

McCain doesn't think this is Vietnam. He just doesn't want to leave Afghanistan & Iraq as we've left them before. In the past, we have accepted small victories and left without bothering to stabilize the country, ensure that the population was safe and that the enemy didn't have the resources to rebuild. Guess What??? We returned to both countries after attacks on the US, hundreds of thousand of civilian lives lost in these countries and a stronger enemy. We must finish what we have started. The argument can be made for initially not going to war, but now that we are there, leaving without completing the task is not an option. We must not leave a situation that we will have to fight against later...at home or abroad. John McCain understands this because he has been there. He fully understands the repercussions of not only failure, but of anything less than victory.

So TXDavant, you think only white male landowners should be voting? Thankfully your mentality lies decidedly within a tiny minority that is diminishing further at a rapid pace. Most people don't champion ignorance and injustice as proudly as you do. Those of you who believe differently than TXDavant and his ilk, I suggest you take steps to make sure your voice gets included, through your vote.

  • Posted By: TxDavant @ 10/26/2008 1:29:47 AM

    Mr. Alter,
It is obvious who you want to win and it is ok that you can not rport objectively. But what is bothering me is that you assume that if someone doesnt vote for Obama it is because of race and not his socialist views or his lack of experience or his history with people that have such strong views against America.... Where are all the objective reporters???? With out them our country as our founders saw it will be ruined.

    • Posted By: Average-Jane @ 10/26/2008 2:54:08 AM

There is no rational reason to vote for McCain. Ergo, a vote for McCain is blind idiology, racism, or simple idiocy -- that should not be ruled out.

This is my first time voting Democrat, and my values are not RINO. We are in a very bad state on many fronts and McCain has not shown any competency or leadership qualities in this race.

Keeping our constitution the way our founders intended is not a rational reason?

What happens if Obama wins? Kiss your 401K's goodbye. Kiss any Soc Sec goodbye. Say hello to higher taxes. No one is gonna help the middle class. If the rich are no longer getting tax breaks, we, the middle class will have to take up the slack. Prices will soar. So, hello Obama! Hello Fianacial Crisis Like None We've Ever Seen Before!

Boy are you in for a rude awakening. Sorry to break the news to you, but neither candidate has the magic 'econ' pill for what we are about to experience over the next couple years. Be prepared---regardless of who wins! It's just gonna be a bumpier ride if BO is elected due to the immediate TESTING (international military crisis. Right Joe!) facing him the day he steps into office. I sure hope you're prepared Sen. Green from Chicago, ILL. Heck, I know the media's got you pegged as America's savior. I really hope that there's some real substance behind your speeches and not just a bunch of hope a dope empty rhetoric.

      • Posted By: AskPlus @ 10/27/2008 1:32:07 PM

The "immediate" is with any new pres, but you know this. BTW the Pentagon agreed with Biden. They also feel McCain is a bigger target given the fact that if he wins - we will have fewer allies for support. So, you're off - but you knew this.

Burger King = irrelevant person = irrelevant comments right? Well shmuck, I'm a veteran and hold a degree. • Posted By: AskPlus @ 10/27/2008 12:59:32 PM

Seems to be the only tactic. Are you not tired of them calling themselves bigot - while saying Dems call them bigot? I am.

  • Posted By: Let's Get A Clue @ 10/27/2008 1:07:39 PM

I won't say who I am voting for because the substance of my comment does not depend on it.

There was once a time when you, the mainstream media, in spite of holding personal views largely to the left of the public, fought against racism, hatemongering, and fear tactics in an honorable and remarkable fashion: by making an honest attempt to shed your own politics to present facts in as unbiased a manner as possible. This was a remarkable achievement and did much to dismantle the success of politics rooted in xenophobia and bigotry. But as I look around today, I have begun to realize that those days are gone. The pendulum has swung so far that the same entity that once represented free speech and fair assessment so well - you - have begun flexing your muscle to stamp out contrarian views. You have done this not by presenting facts, but by presenting opinion as fact.

You have become what you once fought so hard to eliminate.

You - the American press - had come so far from the yellow journalism days of Manifest Destiny. It has taken you almost 100 years of hard work and determined self-discipline to do so.

And in a matter of 2 years, you have thrown it all away.

Perhaps you should not feel too badly, though . . . after all, you are not breaking new ground. Canada's human rights speech laws and Europe's all-but-enacted criminalization of revisionist accounts of European history precede you.

20 years ago, an article like this would not likely have been published in a major magazine. And if it were, the editor and writer would likely have been searching for new employment.

You once fought for racial harmony.

Now you use race as a weapon.

And the most saddening thing is that you seem not to realize what it is you have become.

    • Posted By: AskPlus @ 10/27/2008 1:22:43 PM

I think it's more sad that you don't see what you have become.

  • Posted By: benkrapf @ 10/27/2008 1:21:47 PM

Obama: 306 electoral votes and counting...

Too bad, so sad for the McCainiacs.

  • Posted By: Abots22 @ 10/27/2008 10:59:53 AM

I agree totally. It's the LIV's that will decide the election in favor of....Obama. Those LIV's who are unaware of the fact that he was a memeber of the socialist New Party in Chicago; those young LIV's who are unaware that a proposal has been made by Dems in Congress to change 401(k) laws so that they are no longer pre-tax contributions and thus RAISING taxes for anyone making $75k or more a year. (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122477680834462659.html). But then again, how is the average American who relies on MSNBC, CNN, CBS, and Newsweek supposed to know all these things when the media has an obvious bias towards electing Obama (http://people-press.org/report/463/media-wants-obama)...."Voters overwhelmingly believe that the media wants Barack Obama to win the presidential election. By a margin of 70%-9%, Americans say most journalists want to see Obama, not John McCain, win on Nov. 4."

One last thought...what happens IF Obama wins..as it stands right now, if we disagree and don't vote for Obama we are racists, so when IF he gets into the White House are we not going to be able to be critical and disagree with him them..or are we going to continue to feel BULLIED out of fear of being called a racist. I've thought about it..and I'd like other opinions, you see SNL and other shows making fun and exaggerating certain peoples atributes (good or bad....accents, they way they talk or the way they look), but from what I can remember seeing, haven't seen much of it when it comes to Obama...why, I belief yet again it is the racism card. You can make fun of the buck-toothed gun carrying redneck, but not some one who happens to be HALF BLACK because of the COLOR of his skin.

    • Posted By: rapidron @ 10/26/2008 10:07:50 PM

Nope, if he gets into the whitehouse and screws up, all the people you just mentioned, including me and Obama supporter, will be all over him. The fact that you're making up this extremely lame scenario says a lot about you.

      • Posted By: life2go @ 10/27/2008 1:11:20 PM

So what is so lame about this scenario...and what does it say about me?
As it stands right now, if I don't like him or his points of view, people seem to automatically assume it is because I am a racist. So there is the point that IF he makes it to be Commander in Chief and the fact that he is a HALF BLACK man, when his policys and ideas go wrong (AND THEY WILL) and people start to criticize him, will there not be the finger pointing back saying that the only reason we are criticizing him is because of racism. And how about the great excuse this gives him when things don't work, it is because he's had to fight the hatemongers and racists and they've prevented him from accomplishing his goals. Right now and later, he (and the other Democrats) have a wonderful escape plan. If he doesn't get elected and IF HE DOES AND FAILS, then it is Americans racist issues that are to blame. Not that his plans and ideas are "fundamently" flawed.

I started out this election process (over a year ago) really liking alot of the things I heard about Obama and a lot of what I saw. But it has been him and only him and his actions that turned me away (not his color). Three things really did it for me.
        1. Him going overseas with all his rallies over there, talking to them. Absolutely turned me off. I could understand going and meeting the other politicians, but the huge rallies he held....made me feel like he was going more for a WORLD LEADER position rather than running for the American Presidency.
        2. REMOVING THE AMERICAN FLAG...HE DOESN'T NEED A SYMBOL. IF HE IS RUNNING TO BE MY PRESIDENT THEN THE AMERICAN FLAG IS HIS SYMBOL. There are people out there who seems to think that the American Flag represent all kinds of bad things and ill feelings, if that is how they feel then they can leave. The American Flag represents alot, and some of our history isn't great, but if you don't feel that you still live in the best country with all our freedoms (aleast while we still have them) and that you aren't proud of our flag....THEN GET THE HECK OUT AND LEAVE. And if you are running to be my COMMANDER IN CHIEF, then you better damn well, respect and have no problems with displaying it WITH PRIDE.
        3. And this isn't necessarily him personally, but the whole thing. I am sick and tired of having the race card shoved down my throat....and not sure how I will stomach 4 years, if that is what it comes down to.

  • Posted By: mustang_va @ 10/27/2008 1:07:30 PM

I find this article completely biased and racist in it's own remarks. To make the assumption that if McCain wins it is all because people are allowing "race to be a factor" is demeaning, and an complete low blow by the media to try and swing an election by bringing up the racial angle.

Lets not account for how many people in swing states have said on camera and on audio recording that they were voting FOR Obama because he is black. Is that not just as racist, I have not seen Newsweek, MSNBC or any other media outlet jump on that nearly as much as this hypothetical theory. In the instances I speak there is proof, here you have theory, since when is the media and news a MAYBE, or COULD BE? Talk facts or get a new job.

I found it funny that even a college paper found that large percentages of the people voting for Obama had no idea what his viewpoints were, in many cases mistaking Obama's views for McCain's but they were oh so happy to see a "brother" going to the white house. Howard Stern had on his show people who by views supported McCain but said they were voting for Obama, of course they were thinking McCain's views were Obama's. Funniest part of that bit was that most people even thought Palin was Obama's Veep choice.

I have completely lost respect for Newsweek and it's staff for taking this route, right left or otherwise it is YOU THE MEDIA WHO ARE PROMOTING THE RACIAL SWINGS IN THIS ELECTION NOT THE CANDIDATES AND NOT THEIR SUPPORTERS.

I am not really for McCain, but I am against Obama. I am not a Republican but an Independent who has voted Democrat far more often than Republican throughout my life. And racism has nothing to do with my choice! I am of mixed race myself and I have children and grandchildren who are black, and if anything, I would vote for rather than against Obama because he is half black. But the highest office in America is too important for those issues to matter. I am against Obama because he and Biden have both been proven bigger liars than the Republican candidates. I consider this article to be both racist and arrogant!

Geez why such anger? And, seriously, do you REALLY believe that Obama a) is a fear monger when he talks about uniting the country and having apositive outlook on our future? Do you REALLY believe that Obama hates whites when he continually talks about the positive influnece of his WHITE grandparents and his WHITE mother? Do you REALLY believe taht Obama is a radical Muslim when he's a lifelong Christian whose never embraced any of the jihadist ideology? "Thugocracy"? Stop it!
