Great analysis. This election is an acid test for the country. Can a black man who is thoughtful, full of ideas and smart win an election in a country that seems full of "joe the plumbers". The last eight years have been dreadful. How voters could reject real change and follow a McCain who at this point will say anything to grab a few votes is beyond me. But then again, I have not backed a winner for the past eight years.

Not when he is Anti-American. I pray not.

Vote McCain / Palin on Nov 4

You are an idiot! Obama is as American as can be! Born here, schooled here, worked here all his life. HE puts country first, mcblame puts himself first! I pray that fools like you somehow get smart but I realize that is one miracle that won't happen! McBlames racist and bigoted fear mongering, hateful followers are increasingly, thank God becoming the minority. Most people seem to be smarter than you!

        • Posted By: dianal @ 10/27/2008 7:58:50 AM

Why do many of the rants about how wonderful Obama is sound so much like followers defending a religious cult leader?

        • Posted By: jblackwell88 @ 10/26/2008 11:21:59 PM

That said, being an "American" has become increasingly meaningless. It says NOTHING about you, except that you live in a GEOGRAPHY. It doesn't imply a language, a religion, a culture, or a race. How long do you expect this experiment will last?

      • Posted By: rapidron @ 10/26/2008 10:05:38 PM

You know what oregano, I think YOU'RE anti-American. In fact, I think you're a communist! Prove to me that you are not--we all know you ARE.

    • Posted By: dianal @ 10/27/2008 7:56:56 AM

A facist dictator would also be "real change!" A Taliban member would be "real change." How about "real honesty"? We'll never get that, and frighteningly enough, most of you don't appear to care. Frankly I think neither party is remotely trustworthy and I fully expect that whoever wins, we are in for the big fall. I have lived through many "great hopes" in American politics and every one has been nothing but a hot air balloon. Obama looks better than McCain, true, but this time the hot air is being slapped in our faces by the Democratic candidates even well before the election.

  • Posted By: dianal @ 10/27/2008 7:34:16 AM

I am not really for McCain, but I am against Obama. I am not a Republican but an Independent who has voted Democrat far more often than Republican throughout my life. And racism has nothing to do with my choice! I am of mixed race myself and I have children and grandchildren who are black, and if anything, I would vote for rather than against Obama because he is half black. But the highest office in America is too important for those issues to matter. I am against Obama because he and Biden have both been proven bigger liars than the Republican candidates. I consider this article to be both racist and arrogant!

You know the types that the author is actually speaking about won't EVER read those links.

I've read everything about McCain AND Obama. In fact, I was originally for McCain over Hillary or Obama, until around April where he really changed and for the worse; lashing out and acting in desperation. People read the article and don't even realize that they have chosen to FEAR being informed. Information is power--and a lot of you choose to be tools.

  • Posted By: chrispisme @ 10/26/2008 1:14:07 PM

I notice you mention that it is estimated that Obama's skin color will cost him 6% points. That is an interesting study. Has anyone calculated how many percentage points John McCain has lost because of his skin color? If you 'jounalist', who of course report 'fairly' and are unbiased, want to talk about race in this election then make sure you talk about it both ways. Why is over 90% of African Americans voting for Obama? Is it just because they believe in his political views?
In addition, what is the percentage of 'white' Americans voting for Obama in relation to their overall population here in America? If you say that 'race' is costing Obama points because of racism by 'white' Americans then, using your same study method, what does it say about African Americans?
Finally, I'd like to share something, 'white' Americans who many obviously and vigorously support Obama, are kinda getting tired of hearing things like this. Especially when they always seem to be so one-sided. God knows that when the day comes when we all can get over this race thing, we will be that much stronger, but in saying that, as humans we are natuarally competetive and that will NEVER change. Whether it is I think my country is better than yours, or my state, or my city, or my neighborhood, or my street, or even my brother. We will always compete and we will always be different to every other human we encounter. It doesn't make us bad, it makes us human. In saying that I don't in anyway, shape or form think 'racism' is OK for ANY race to inflict upon another, but you (journalist) need to be fair about it when you report. Just a thought...

    • Posted By: rapidron @ 10/26/2008 1:22:55 PM

No, but we can talk about how many votes McCain will receive because of his skin color if Obama was white and named John Smith: I'd say like 30%. The point is that this candidate is incompetent and untrustworthy in seeing so many facts and history about him, along with his behavior of late, but so many are still voting for him.

And PLEASE, you act like this country is filled with Blacks all over. You KNOW Blacks are still the minority by far, right? Don't try to make idiotic things up.

      • Posted By: chrispisme @ 10/26/2008 1:52:48 PM

The point is drapidon it doesnt matter what the percentages are of white, black etc... are in the country, it matters what they are doing. And this was the intention of the author. If these studies find racism one way they they should look for it in all ways. Don't you get that? I'm not supporting Obama, am I a racist? And even if I did support him and I was white then what does that make me? Give me a break!

        • Posted By: rapidron @ 10/27/2008 2:37:33 AM

You tell me? You aren't supporting Obama. If you have good and TRUE reasons, then you are not.

Most people--and read this board--do NOT fall under this group of informed voters with good and true reasons. That IS the point. So you tell me--are you racist?

  • Posted By: purpleconservative @ 10/26/2008 1:21:48 PM

    Mr Obama,

Simply throwing money (ie our tax dollars) at problems will not fix them. This is the Obama doctrine.

    • Posted By: rapidron @ 10/26/2008 2:10:27 PM

So you should be saying the same thing about Bush and McCain--they are throwing 700 billion at the bailout and are totally for it.

McCain wants to throw another 300 billion at mortgage problems, something that Obama actually is against. So before you talk, check your facts.

Mc Cain has never been President and where's his experience? 11 houses and thirteen carsand a pair of $400.00 shoes singing the anthem of he knows my condition. He is the same Golden Spoon Fed White man as Bush and I'm white and a combat veteran of Vietnam. The true hero's are the ones who never got to come home, not Mc Cain!

WHO REALLY CARES WHAT EITHER OF THEIR RACE IS??? Why do people continually make this about race?? Is that because it's only blue smoke and mirrors to take away our attention from the real issues?? Voting "Present" a majority of the time does not qualify one to lead! Yes, he showed up, but did he take a stand?? We need a strong LEADER not someone who just shows up and says "I"m present"...we're all present! Now who has the experience to lead US out of this mess that is a result of both parties unwillingness to work together for the good of all? We need a stong leader with experience, not just someone who sounds good or looks good that has duped the media with his eloquent speech and good looks!

      • Posted By: rapidron @ 10/26/2008 2:08:54 PM

All the while we see McCain taking a stand on an issue and then changing it a few months later in order to try to win the presidency. That looks pretty desperate.

Additionally, he preys on people's fears and paranoia ABOUT race. Thus--that is why we care about RACE in this ELECTION. Telling people not to see it is just trying to cover up something very sick about today's society. You cure sickness, you don't let it infest.

Think about the approach that the Obama campaign staff has taken. They have trashed Sarah Palin. So what should we learn about their attitude toward women?
They have trashed "Joe the plumber" So what should we learn about their attitude toward small business people?
They have trashed Western Pennsylvanians. So what should we learn about their attitude toward rural Americans?
YET they have not condemned ACORN for trying to "fix" the election. So what should we learn about their attitude toward corruption?
They have not condemned Bill Ayers for being a non-repentant domestic terrorist. So what should we learn about their attitude toward radical domestic terrorism?
They have not condemned Rev. Wright for being anti-American. So what should we learn about their attitude toward anti-American sentiment?
They have not condemned Tony Rezko for political corruption. So what should we learn about their attitude toward political corruption.
They don't like women, small business people and rural Americans.
Do we want Obama in the White House?

ACORN has been investigated thoroughly and you just refuse to see the results. Obama condemned Ayer's acts. Obama condemned Wright's positions. The list goes on and on. If you think Obama will bring this country together you are blind or insane. This country will be devided racially and politically. Obama is a racist (sat in Wright's church for 20 years and listened to him talk about his hate for whites and America and he didn't leave until he was pressured) and he is the most liberal person in Congress....how is he going to bring anyone together. I have always voted Democrat even if I did not like the candidate. No one ever question that I was voting for the white candidate just becuase he was white. I voted for him just because he was a democrate. We now have an African American running for President and if the polls are correct, he will win. However polls are just that, polls. If Obama loses, it will because white americans could nto bring themselve to vote for an African American for president. That is the only reason Obama will lose. Lets hope that the common sense and decency of the American people will prove me (a skeptic) wrong.
