I truly hope McCain/Palin wins and it has nothing to do with race. Personally I am sick of it being shoved down my throat ....that if I don't like Obama it is because he is HALF BLACK and I must be a racist. I'm not. I just truly believe that he (heck for that matter ANY DEMOCRAT) would be the worst thing for this country especially right now and with the direction they want to take this country. I'll take the VETERAN POW and a hockey mom over 2 MORE LAWYERS running this country, thank you.

I think it is totally unethical for a journalist like you to state your personal preferance for any candidate. I am a pastor and I do not tell my congregation my preferance. When you are in positions of influence like you and me, you step over the line ethically. You are not objective and doing your job. You are biased. Your job and mine is to present the truth and let the people make up their own minds. Perhaps you should take a course on ethics in journalism. Perhaps you should be terminated. Freedom of speech is a constitutional right but with it comes responsibility. The media has in no way been responsible in this election. How can the people trust you? We look for our journalists to be just, investigate the truth, and report it for the publics process. You and others have certainly betrayed and violated the public trust with bias partisan politics. My issue is not who you personelly vote for, that is your business. My concern is for the people and the election you influence because you have not led people to discover truth based upon factual investigative evidence of both parties. Just read the postings - consider people's distrust of the media which was once highly respected. Edward R. Murrow would blush with shame at the state of journalism in the U.S. today. There was a time when you could certainly tell the differance the National Inquire and New Week. You should all be reprimanded. None of you are any better than Imus and what he did pales in comparison to your influence on an election and you breach of professional ethics.

Sorry, but you don't know anything about journalism. There's News and Editorial components of journalism. News reports what's happening and should be unbiased, giving the facts without opinion. Editorial is the opinion of the writer, clearly stating such under the name of the writer. In this case it was clearly stated that the writer was expressing an opinion. Nothing wrong with that whatsoever. That's what editorial pages and columns are for.

95% of black people are voting for a black person. Liberals, whats wrong with this picture....

    • Posted By: pattr1 @ 10/26/2008 2:07:51 PM

Just as I said in an ealier post, the black are voting for a Democrat who happens to be black. Blacks have always voted for Democrats. If Colin Powell was to run as a Republican against a Bill Clinton, most black would have voted for Clinton

    mnflazfl,

Have you even done any research on socialized medicine in Canada? Or even in Massachusetts where they tried it and it was taking on average 100 days to get an appointment with a doctor. A person could be dead by then. Socialized medicine is not all that it is cracked up to be...just ask the Canadians.

So, can anyone explain to me what successes Obama brought to bear as a 'community organizer' in Chicago other than enriching he and his friends? Seems he is following the blueprint of Jesse Jackson, who's sons were given a very profitable Budweiser distributorship simply because Jesse was extorting Bud.

Obama learned the game well in Chicago: problem is, he learned the wrong lessons and associated with the wrong people. The adage 'lie down and get fleas' applies to Obama - and I hope those of you who espouse to support Obama would simply apply some objectivity to his past.

  • Posted By: BAMAVADER @ 10/26/2008 2:06:35 PM

So are you saying you don't have any sense or decency if you don't vote for Obama?

  • Posted By: AlwaysInTheRight @ 10/26/2008 1:31:52 PM

Such slanted report, I don't see how anyone takes Newsweek seriously anymore. Here's the front page as of 1:42 EST on 10/26/2008:

Factcheck: GOP Ads Attack Obama's Tax Plan ... Again
If McCain Loses, What's Palin's Next Step?
Robert Gates: Next President Faces 'More Dangerous' World
DailyKos: How Big Will the Democrats' Win Be?
GOP Donors 'Furious' About Palin Wardrobe Costs

So Newsweek cares about what a commie rag (DailyKos) thinks? Goes great w/Obamas income redistribution scheme.

    • Posted By: rapidron @ 10/26/2008 2:05:34 PM

Oh no no, I'm calling YOU out--you're the communist.

Hey everyone, AlwaysInTheRight, IS A COMMUNIST!!

  • Posted By: juliedsc @ 10/26/2008 2:05:27 PM

Where are the PUMAs? The media quickly silenced their voices and refuse to give them any recognition. They are still out there and are voting McCain!

  • Posted By: Four Horse @ 10/26/2008 2:04:54 PM

How can the " trusted " Associated Press say that Obama's race will cost him 6 % points when many polls show just the opposite ? A poll in The Columbus ( Ohio ) Dispatch shows that 34% of Whites are leaning toward Obama but 0 % of Blacks are leaning toward McCain . 0 % ? It seems that he is benefitting from his race.

  • Posted By: akuafire @ 10/26/2008 2:04:53 PM

Excellent hypothetical story. Judging from the comments below, it might be too close reality for comfort...

  • Posted By: independentjospine @ 10/26/2008 2:04:40 PM

This has to be one of the cheapest and lowest shots the media has taken yet at not only John McCain, but at us the American voter. Talk about trying to influence an election by playing on our guilt complex! If we don't vote for Obam we are racists? Excuse me, I was ndecided before reading this article, but now I'll vote for McCain and be thought a racist vice voting for Obama and being one. Absoulutely disgusting & you call yourselves journalists. aybe there is a correlation between crap like this and why the media is one of the least respected professions in theis country.

  • Posted By: pattr1 @ 10/26/2008 1:49:52 PM

If Bill Clinton was running against Colin Powell, my hunch is that most of the black votes would have gone to Clinton. Democrats have always been sympathetic to the blacks and to the issues that are important to them. As far as the race issue goes, the blacks are a lot more tolerant. This time around they see a Democrat who is black and promising. They are excited. That is understandable.

But America has had a section of white population that judged people simply by the color of the skin. That section has shrunk considerable over the years. This section will not vote for Obama no matter what. Then there is yet another section which does not bother to stay informed and may vote for McCain without understanding the issues. This is the section that believed it was Saddam who was responsible for 9/11 and some in this section think Obama is a Muslim or Arab. The question is whether this section large enough to change the outcome of this election.

I don't like your argument. You pose a hypothetical situation, share your "hunch," and then use this hypothetical as evidence. Sorry to tell you that this is not a legitimate way of presenting arguments. Also, your comment that blacks are a lot more tolerant is completely unsubstantiated. you're argument is fundamentally flawed and based on conjecture and falsities.

I fear too that while Obama may carry New Mexico, New Hampshire, Iowa for a total of 264 electoral votes, history may be damning once again with VA, NC, MO, OH, CO and NV going for McCain, albeit with extremely slim margins. It keeps me up at night, and I wonder if the respect and admiration I have for my country will be completely lost if that were to happen. The choices - to me - are so clear here. Embracing the modern, the rational versus reverting to a strident theocracy. Would I move to Canada or Europe or Timbuktu were that to happen? No. This is my country, and the fight will continue.

    • Posted By: DB-Akron @ 10/26/2008 2:03:30 PM

Add PA to that mix. That is why McCain hit it so hard last week.. The Obama camp admitted last thursday that they only had a 2 point lead.

  • Posted By: life2go @ 10/26/2008 2:03:20 PM

I so hope that McCain/Palin win. It has nothing to do with race, and I'm sick of it being shoved down my throat that I must be a racist because I don't Obama/Biden to win. I "fundamentaly" (since they both like using the word) disagree with Obama and truly believe with him, we (as a Nation) will be headed in the wrong direction (in so many ways I won't list). Not to mention that the last thing this government needs is 2 MORE LAWYERS in charge....I'll take a VETERAN (POW) and a hockey mom.

  • Posted By: Obamamaniac @ 10/26/2008 1:42:57 PM

yeah pailin, who dropped out of college a couple times... Community at that... pipline deal will neer go through... she doesn't know what a VP does.. "run the senate and make changes...." right..... thats what the VP does... and let me see umm most americans who wouldn't be taxed by Obama and those people are Whites making I don't know about $50,000 and yet they go for McCain... you tell me whats wrong with that picture.... and if Obama was white he'd win so don't tell me race is not a factor....

    • Posted By: rapidron @ 10/26/2008 1:44:42 PM

Honestly, and many people will never see the points you just made--RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEIR FACES.

What is wrong with you people? Some of us rely on facts!

      • Posted By: NoGuilt @ 10/26/2008 1:52:46 PM

Race is surely a factor. (5% of blacks intend to vote Obama. 30%-40% of whites will vote for another ethnicity. That proves that blacks are more racist than whites, and proves that since white liberals are willing to capitalize on this, they are more the enemy then conservative whites or blacks themselves.

        • Posted By: neos @ 10/26/2008 2:01:46 PM

Or it proves that A-A voters have traditionally always voted over 90% for the Democratic candidate. Study political history. The repubs have deliberately excluded minorities since the 60's.

  • Posted By: alikat747 @ 10/26/2008 2:01:44 PM

What no one is really talking about, is that it might not be because voters aren't or are doing what everyone expects, but the voting MACHINES will continue to steal votes, yet again! While many counties across America are getting it right this time and either using paper ballots or machines that have a paper print out so the voter can verify that the person (or issue) they voted for is what will actually be recorded, most have chosen to use paperless electronic voting machines which are easily hacked into/tampered with. It's not 'voter fraud' we should be worried about - it's ELECTION FRAUD. So, if you care about your vote - whatever side of the aisle you're on - check with your registrar of voters to find out what kind of ballots/machines they use; make sure your name and signature on file match your name and signature as you will sign it; demand an absentee ballot if you don't like the machines they're going to use and be sure to have it in to the registrar's office no later than 7 days prior to election day (that's the 26th) if you want your vote to be in the election night count!

  • Posted By: NoGuilt @ 10/26/2008 2:01:22 PM

He should be elected based on his skin color if you believe it will allieviate your white guilt. Its "payment". Experiences in the last 20 years with Al and Jesse though show that this only puts chumin the water; appeasement doesn't work.

  • Posted By: Will Crash @ 10/26/2008 2:00:13 PM

Wow, what a joke. Racist...the only racism here is from Obama's wife and the great Reverend jerimiah. This is typical demo rhetoric...whatever is bad for America is good for demo's. I am shocked that people who call themselves Americans will vote for the person who is less American than anyone. The only good thing about Obama winning is that after he does, the rest of us can stand back, point our finger at you all and say, "We tried to tell you". Welcome to the end of America.
