What is most disheartening is a journalist who is supposed to keep an open mind to all factors, even if he or she does have an opinion, and then sums up all evil incarnate and what is wrong with man into a simple political decision. I am voting for Senator McCain, not because of race, but of qualifications. Mr. Obama has had absolutely no political accomplishments other than being elected to the senate. Sure, he is a great orator, and is very intelligent. But he has not sponsored or written any important bill, and other than campaign staff, or general staff, has never led anyone in difficult or easy times. Ideologically, I am opposed to his thoughts on Defense. His Foreign Policy is so simplistic in nature, he and his staff are assuming the terrorists and enemies of the United States actually want peace. Some want us wiped off the map just like they would do to Israel. Until he was in the limelight, his wife and his pastor made very open and disparingly negative comments about the Untied States. Those are two of the most important people in his life, who have had the most influence on him, and he doesn't share any of those views? Those are reasons why I am voting for Mr. McCain- not because I am a racist. I see the best in America, in good and bad times. What is sad, Mr. Alter, is that it appears you are always looking for, and hoping for, the worst in America. Just because people oppose your views, does not imply that they are biggots, idiots, or evil. They have opposing views. That's why so many people like McCain and our fore fathers fought for our freedoms, so that biggots like you can speak your mind and classify all that oppose your thoughts as simplisticly lost to the darkness of the world. Mr. Obama, well, he could only speak of freedom since he didn't actually serve. I would vote for Colin Powell any day because of his accomplishments and talent. Who, sir, is judging by the color of skin?

Argument for PC marxism based on economic entanglements

if john mccain wins it will be because a lot of people are so entrenched in this party loyalty stuff that they can't objectively look at what is good for the country. country first would compel them to make the right choice, not the party choice no matter what. on november 5th, if we wake up to a mccain presidency, our country will pay a heavy and dire price for our failure to rise above party affiliation, race and social division..

I find Newsweek; to be somewhat two faced. If a white person votes for someone because of the color of his/her skin they can be refered to as racist. Yet 95% of the black community is supporting Obama, which draws not one word of racism? Please! Report the news, not your opinions.

    • Posted By: pattr1 @ 10/26/2008 1:59:24 PM

The black are voting for a Democrat who. happens to be black. Blacks have always voted for Democrats. If Colin Powell was to run as a Republican against a Bill Clinton, most black would have voted for Clinton

Listen, rapidron. This man should not be elected just based on his skin color. Why didn't the media handpick Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton? Why, you might ask? Because they didn't speak with eloquence, the didn't have the Ivy League background, and they didn't have white blood in their veins to attrack white voters. The media and Democrats have been manipulating African Americans for years! Why do you think Clarence Thomas and Condi Rice are not looked up to for having such powerful positions? African Amercans in this country are being fed by Democrats to keep them needy on the government. They don't want African Americans to be successful and have lucrative businesses. Democrats want a big government so they have all the power, not citizens -- no matter what color skin you have.

A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government strong enough to take everything you have. Thomas Jefferson. Poor people have been voting for democrats for 50 years, and guess what, their still poor.

    • Posted By: rapidron @ 10/26/2008 1:58:40 PM

Nice generalization. I'm voting for Obama and I know for a fact I have more money than you do.

So guess what? You're probably poor yourself, and now a hypocrite.

It seems to me that this so called News organization has already put Obama into the Office of President without an Official Vote. According to them McCain should just give up already. I cannot wait for this Election to be over and have this Unqualified man being supported by Middle East Money. What this election has come to, is not color of skin, is how much money can be wasted on Political bashing, while this country is in it's worst financial crisis since the great depression. People need to find out the facts for themselves to make an honest Vote, but most of this country just listens to what these biased News Magazines, papers and Stations throw down our throats.

Comment: It will be because white people won't swallow the crow the liberal media is forcing upon us: namely, that we have "original sin" with respect to PC Marxism. Any mention of sin should be directed at all people. The fact that liberals hijack and distort Christianity to fullfill there vendetta to deconstruct the Judeo Christian roots of the country is evident in their heretic-speak.

Really!?! Two Wars, an Economic Meltdown, a Shattered international image, failed energy and transportation policies and race is the issue. The real issue for this undecided, phone slammimg voter is that neither candidate has clearly communicated to me as a citizen. Stop the campaign "insanity", put down the bows and arrows, dont' mention the others name, and TALK to the American people. We are voting for the Leader of the most hard working, compassionate, caring people on earth, not some schoolyard bully.
P.S. A black co-worker told me last week "that your "white" world would change come January". Maybe race is an issue?!?

  • Posted By: Stella6565 @ 10/26/2008 1:52:06 PM

What an ignorant article. It presupposes that the only reason a person wouldn't vote for Obama is because of his race. What about the fact that his is arguably the most under-qualified candidate for president that we have seen in 100 yrs? Or that he has described his own econmic plan in socialist terms? Callling McCain irratic is a joke--did anyone check out his response on Georgia??? Wake up--this guy has no idea what he's doing. People are buying into this amorphous proposition of "change" with no substance behind it. If he doesn't win, it's not going to be because of his race; it will be because the people of America don't want to become a socialist country with a crappy health care system.

"McCain, they're reasoning, might prove a fine president, but it shouldn't have happened like this."

The same can be said of Obama and the fact that the media determined the fate of this election.

  • Posted By: AlwaysInTheRight @ 10/26/2008 1:36:11 PM

So LIVs ( "low-information voters") w/only vote for McCain? Hmmmmm. Gee Newsweek, why don't we just do away w/the electoral college and allow the morons you employ vote for us all. Thank God we still have choice.

    • Posted By: rapidron @ 10/26/2008 1:55:30 PM

So by your name, we can see that even without research or thought you would be 'AlwaysInTheRight'. What's the point in getting Newsweek on LIV's? Is it because you ARE one?

  • Posted By: ReaderinColorado @ 10/26/2008 1:55:15 PM

So if Obama doesn't win ...the media will spin the story to read that the reason for the failure is that white Americans are racist, and not that a lot of folks who happen to be white don't happen to delight in Obama's particular vision for America?

I'm so glad I took logic in college rather than a journalism course.....

What is all this talk aout childhood mentors, etc. How many of us have had people who could have influenced our lives that believed differently than we do. It's about the present, gang, not about the future. That's why the Democrats refuse to talk about some of the rumors that have been posted concerning McCain, his controversial stay in Viet Nam, his infamous trial in the Senate, his desertion of his first wife for a beautiful, wealthy, younger woman, his ownership of seven homes, his ownership of many, many automobiles, and his dubious association with large corporations, and other associations too numerous to mention. Instead they listen to all this garbage about childhood influences, their parents, and folks they have known throughout their lives. It is too crazy. I know there are many uninformed voters but this is ridiculous.

  • Posted By: nancynicker @ 10/26/2008 9:53:50 AM

Let's remember what this country is all about, who we are and what we stand for. I am PROUD to be an American and I will be able to continue to say that after voting for McCain. I am ready and willing to wave the Red, White and Blue and know McCain is the one who will lead us back to our countries core values. Will you be able to say that if you vote for Obama?

  • Posted By: uclbob @ 10/26/2008 1:38:06 PM

Itsays if the uniformed voters come out McCain will win? How about informed the uniformed that Sen Obama's childhood mentore (in Hawaii) was a communist (I will over look anti-white) poet, he talks about being for the people but one of his largest ,from early career on, supporters is a "slum" lord providing poor housing fro the under privledged that Sen Obama claims to champion. The Duet 15:11 starts by saying the poor will always be with us and goes on to encourage us to give them support . Since the Golden Boy has arrived lees has been looked into his background than the scrutiny given Joe W in 2 weeks. why should I pay higher prices due to the companies I deal with pass this additional tax on to me , I pass it along causing you to pay more . Simple "joe" reasoning if I intend on making $10. on a product every tax you add adds to the final cost. The tax us into submission (if we raise the tax they will buy this product less) idea is costing us on motre than one front. We do need a congress and president who will guide us out of this. McCain may not be THE answer but no matter what Oprah says Sen Obama is not, especially with a congress that controls hime more than he seems to get control.

    • Posted By: rapidron @ 10/26/2008 1:54:12 PM

So you don't think the McCain negative campaign would have been all over this if it had merit??

      Doesn't make any sense.

I'm fed up with the Obama race issue. It has nothing to do with the color of his skin! People , and main stream media, fail to recognize his affiliation with terrorists, Acorn, Frank Marshal, Bill Ayers, Jeremiah Wright, and his birth certificate!!! All everyone does is focus on another 8 years of the Bush scenario. The media is all for Obama, and is it quite obvious. Stop picking on Sarah Palins wardrobe and John McCains shoes. Get down to the REAL issues. Is Obama a U.S. citizen, or not??? Why is Iran supporting, and cheering for him to win the election??? Where is HE getting all his campaign money from??? Why did He take the american flag off of his plane??? What did Michelle obama ever do that was so wonderful??? Sarah palin is REAL!!! WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!! Do you all want a socialistic, communist country???? Don't you care about the Constitution??? Do you want to pay higher taxes??? If you DON't care then vote for Obama. You will get what you deserve!!!

It infuriates me to find that a great deal of people assume that if you don't vote for Obama you're a racist. This is the most hypocratical election of my life. I'm not allowed to hold Obama's associations w/ Ayres and Wright against him but the Dems expect us to hold McCain's association w/ Bush against him. Holy Double Standard! Frankly, I plan to vote based on the issues. Issues like the fact that Obama thinks that because my family owns a small business that we should pay the same taxes as him (who receives book royalties in the millions) and hollywood movies stars who earn millions per movie. I wish I could afford to pay those taxes, but it's just not the case. Maybe McCain doesn't have the best healthcare plan, but it won't matter if our family loses its business because of Obamas tax plan. We won't have any employees to insure for healthcare anyway.

    • Posted By: rapidron @ 10/26/2008 1:53:23 PM

What you don't see if that Obama's associations have been looked at and scrutinized at the closest levels, while no matter what they find, as long as it isn't super-negative, you won't accept it.

However, McCain's associations are within the realm of politics and point to the kinds of policies he would enact. It's so simple, so why can't you see this?

  • Posted By: nellybenito @ 10/25/2008 8:59:36 PM

Why is the left putting guns to people's head and tell them that they've got to vote for Obama or they are racist? Obama is inexperienced, untested, and aligned himself with questionable characters all his adult life. I am wondering how patriotic he is. Isn't that a legitimate issue? As long as the voters are still uncomfortable with him they'll vote for McCain. The Democrats should try to offer a more palatable candidate next time. What about Hillary? Why blame it all on racism rather than on the fact that perhaps voters still have so many questions about him? Indeed, if Colin Powell were running for president (before he turned around and promoted Obama) I'll would consider voting for him, someone with long service in the military and government.

No, if you don't vote for Barack you're simply stupid.

      • Posted By: BrianJ48 @ 10/26/2008 1:51:53 PM

Uhm, thank you for clearing that up ... I'm voting for McCain/Plain thank you for helping me decide

    • Posted By: sepiasteel @ 10/26/2008 6:52:26 AM

      Uh Nelly. Honey.
Obama counts Colin as a mentor and advisor AND HE SAID SO. He also said that he's going to offer Colin a position in his govt.
If I needed any more proof of your racism, we just got it. You are trying to find a way to obfuscate your obvious ignorance.

    • Posted By: Cazador1972 @ 10/25/2008 10:21:53 PM

Nelly, no one is telling you you are racist for not voting for Obama. Not anyone whose opinion matters, anyway. The fact is American voters are increasingly becoming aware that only one of these two candidates is a cool-head, not impulsive and thinks long term. I mean, a Democrat hasn't won West Virginia in 44 years, North Carolina is at play, Indiana, Montana and North Dakota could turn blue (he's ahead albeit by less than the statistical margin of error). Not even Clinton had a shot in these states... and -let's be honest- they are going for a black candidate! That tells you that a) people see in this candidate something special or b) they are either scared of the Republican ticket, or both. Then the whole inexperience tactic by McCain was forfeited when he himself chose a running VP who's been a governor for 20 months in a state that has less people, literally, than my old neighborhood in NYC.

I only wish more McCain supporters expressed their views here like you did.
