Low Information Voters ... wow ... is that really what you think of people that wouldn't vote for Obama and would vote for the other guy? I think that those that actually have information from the other guy, like from his many years of experience and voting record would have a lot of information. It is in fact those that are voting for Obama that are the Low Information Voters ... they don't have a deep background of experience or voting record to evaluation, only the sound-bites that both candidate have a tendency to speak in during this instant news world we live in. Obama is a wonderfully gifted speaker, however there just isn't enough information (based on facts) that I can see, so it looks like I need to go with the other guy where that is a lot information (base on facts).

Randy - You 'know' the experience of McCain and how he's been such a sterling example of correctness and benefit to our country? How can his support of financial institutions and the mess we're in be construed as experience? You are a fool for thinking that his 90% voting record with Mr. Bush is a good basis for a McCain Presidency. You are the representative of all those who have swallowed the Republican rhetoric of 'change'. There would be NO change and no solution to our current crisis and war on terrorism with a McCain Republican Administration. Obama would be the leader, but he has already chosen advisors that can do what ALL the American people want. He, unlike Bush, will listen to advice and change course whenever necessary. One thing Obama is not is a coward. Your far right wing words will stick in your throat when we chose the right combination of leaders; Obama/Biden.

And if you believe that then you're the one who's uninformed here.

    • Posted By: billysid57 @ 10/26/2008 10:35:56 AM

Couldn't agree with you more - this is the reason I don't subscribe to this liberal rag

  • Posted By: bill328 @ 10/26/2008 10:11:11 AM

Skotts: I agree we all owe. HOWEVER, when Obama wants to give "tax returns" to people that never work, read Welfare pros, then I think his system is flawed. But then apparently so did Obama, because last week he flip flopped on what he was saying and now says what he meant was his 95% tax cut and refund is for people that are working. So now he just cut out those that just got laid off, ppl in real need. Flip/Flop Flip/Flop

    • Posted By: Fisherman144 @ 10/26/2008 11:09:38 AM

bill - Could you possibly think that a non-working person who doesn't file a tax return would get a tax break? Where is your head?....Oh I know - where the sun don't shine.

I can only assume that those of you who are afraid of socialism will be rejecting your Medicare benefits; Medicare being one of many "socialist" programs in this country,.The reality is that in some ways the result of the election isn't going to matter. Whoever is elected is going to have his hands tied by current economic conditions. Fear in the voting booth is not an option, so please don't vote according to the last scary political ad you watched. Please, look beyond the hype and scare tactics and vote with your well-informed head.

    • Posted By: mortons6 @ 10/26/2008 11:07:56 AM

I disagree. Medicare is being paid for by the taxes I paid out of each and every paycheck - not by some amorphous entity.

Talking about these so-called LIV's, the article says "They don't read newsmagazines or newspapers, don't watch any cable news and don't cast their ballots early.". Sounds like Newsweek is concerned that they don't read their biased coverage and that of others in the "Obama Booster's Club". Wouldn't it be ironic that, after all your noble efforts to get your "anointed one" elected, he still lost?

    • Posted By: Fisherman144 @ 10/26/2008 11:07:32 AM

Reality - Your wishes won't come true. You've placed your hopes on the wrong star. Perhaps you would like to find another Country to move to. Apparently this one, the United States, isn't where you should live.

  • Posted By: true_patriot @ 10/26/2008 11:07:14 AM

If McCain/Palin win it will be more of the same, except perhaps a more liberal stance in regard to environmentalists and illegal immigration. Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy and big business will likely continue due to McCain's campaign promises, with no relief for the middle class. The economy will continue to struggle, and possibly sink even further. And heaven forbid Palin becomes president. Why anyone would want this outcome is mind-boggling.

The true racist is the author of the article, and for that matter, the entire Democratic Party. I do not understand why News Week does not change their name to Obama Week. I think the entire American media has taken a gigantic step to the left. The media claims that their reporting is fair and unbalanced when it is so apparent that they favor the Socialist Doctrine of the Democratic Party. One would think that the media would shy away from a political party that will ultimately nationalize their institutions; however, when you can not think for yourself, I guess Socialism is great.

Have you guys seen the news? Down in Florida Obama/Biden wont take anymore hard to answer questions.

Newsweek: What if Obama loses? Uhhhhhh...that question, from MSNBC.com, is not answered in this article.

  • Posted By: mortons6 @ 10/26/2008 11:05:03 AM

For all of you so eager to hit companies and their owners with higher taxes, answer this. How long will you survive when those companies - the ones that you work for, provide your paycheck, and get you your benefits - go under? How long will you survive on that $1500 that Obama wants to give you? As a Michigan resident watching the Big 3 fighting for their existence, and knowing many people who will b affected by the 5000 layoffs announced by Chrysler, I am really frustrated with the ignorant attitude that screwing the big comapnies is the way to get more jobs! When companies get tax breaks, they build more facilities in our communities, hire more people, and put money into the hands of their workers that they can then spend in restaurants, stores, gas stations plumbers, and other small businesses. We all thrive. By trying to bring corporate America to its knees, we are "cutting off our nose to spite our faces". We're not screwing anyone but ourselves. A financially sound company means a good standard of living for all of its employees. We have to lose that "little guy vs the big company" mentality and pull together, because as the big companies go, so do we all!

This is one of the more offensive articles I have ever read. Obama hmself has said that the race factor is a wash. Hardly anyone who supports McCain does so out of racial motivation. If Obama loses, it will be because his superb oratory and political skills were not enough to compensate for his relative inexperience on the national scale. It is not cynical to support a more experienced candidate, in some cases it is pragmatic. I am not a McCain supporter, but these accusations are absolutely wild. It reminds me of the primaries when many stated, including Pelosi, that there would be "chaos" if the superdelegates supported Hillary in large enough numbers for her to win the nomination. That essentially amounted to a threat for the superdelegates to support Obama, Nobody wanted to anger young, first time voters, but they had not problem angering loyal decades long democrats, This entire election has been cynical

    • Posted By: RO in Reno @ 10/25/2008 8:29:51 PM

I don't see how you could call the article offensive, the fact is the only way McCain could get elected is by the low information voters, who will vote based on the last attack ad they saw or heard, and quite frankly I think their numbers are significant, perhaps as high as 35% of the voters
The end result is we have a President elected by those who have not a clue and we have to live with it.

      • Posted By: RangerDan @ 10/26/2008 11:03:21 AM

Closet racism is alive and well in America. Because it has become so politically incorrect to be racially biased in America 90% of the racists in this country will neither admit it nor display racist characteristics in a public fashion. However, how they vote, who they socialize with, where they live, and what is said behind closed doors with trusted associates is very pronounced. It's a dirty little secret in America that is secret to no one. We all know it's true, may even argue that it isn't true, and I won't even argue about it because there is no point. It is what it is.

      • Posted By: mjktrash @ 10/26/2008 2:01:04 AM

I am NOT a LIV because I elect to not share my political views with strangers on the phone (regarding my legally protected secret vote...)

Your ignorance and arrogance will hopefully be the downfall of your precious candidate! Get bent!

      • Posted By: News and Notes @ 10/26/2008 12:10:10 AM

Every president is elected by under informed voters. The article is offensive becuase it is playing the same tired, old, race card, which has been going on all year.

  • Posted By: dekmar3d @ 10/26/2008 10:30:03 AM

Also this article is a perfect example of the type of crap that is being shoved down the throats of the young go with the flow voters. The polls don't predict anything. Look back at the "polls" from the '04 election. Americans "hated" Bush then and according to the "polls" he shouldn't be President now. Maybe if there was a truly fair poll that talked to Democrats and Republicans in balance. In all my years of voting I have never been polled and I do not know anyone that has.

    • Posted By: Fisherman144 @ 10/26/2008 10:48:30 AM

I have never been polled, but that's because I am a cell-phone user and don't have a land line phone listed. I have contributed and supported the Obama effort because I'm sick and tired of Mr. Bush and his buddy McCain walking all over our constitution and ignoring the laws that have made us a strong and enduring Nation. Barack Obama will take the lead in a strong and balanced way to solve our current problems and rebuild our image around the world......McCain/Palin haven't a clue as to how this should be done. Just like Bush, McCain thinks he's always right and won't take any suggestions, ideas or even support from anyone. Ignorance and arrogance go together.

      • Posted By: dekmar3d @ 10/26/2008 11:01:14 AM

Inexperience and defeat go together as well.

  • Posted By: jbc541 @ 10/26/2008 11:00:22 AM

Like everyone says Jonathan Alter .......YOU ARE AN ASS ! ! ! Very typical.

  • Posted By: bhorne1976 @ 10/26/2008 10:57:56 AM

What??? Is the writer seriously saying that the only reason people will vote for McCain over Obama is because a) McCain voters are racist or b) McCain voters are uninformed and uneducated? Are you serious? This is another example of the elitist liberals who run our media.

  • Posted By: cerrojim @ 10/26/2008 10:56:55 AM

1417 arnaiz, thanks for your comments. I always look forward to hearing the intelligent voice of your average Republican. Please keep spreading your message and astute political and social analysis right up to November 4th. Then, please crawl back in your hole and pull the grass over the top.

  • Posted By: kanemano @ 10/26/2008 10:55:53 AM

I am appalled at the insinuation McCain will only win due to deep seated racism and apathy of the young voter. This tripe is poor commentary and certainly not journalism. What has happened to the journalists of our forefathers (or mothers). If McCain wins, it will be due to independants and his base constituency. The same holds true if Obama wins. Sheesh, Newsweek used to be a good read, with goodjournalistic apporach. I suppose, Joe Friday's, "...jut the facts, ma'am," have been lost on a generation of journalists, and editors. That is the one thing that came out of Watergate that impacted us the most. The need my our media and journalist to place their opinion into their reporting. It is a sorry place we hace arrived at.

  • Posted By: radiomelanie88 @ 10/26/2008 9:37:42 AM

Here is yet another LIBERAL example of the media trying to sway the vote! You as a democrat may be getting nervous that Obama is slipping in the polls that are mostly slanted or wrong anyway and then try to play the race card by saying if McCain gets elected it will be because of uneducated voters or because Obama is black!
Who I'm most disappointed in is Colin Powell because I think he has went against his better judgement and simply voted for Obama because he is black. Only because he wants a black president. I've always thought he should be our first black president because he has demonstrated solid leadership, now my opinion about him has changed!
Anyway I think what has the Democrats and ALL Liberal media scared about McCain/Palin is that she is so unashamedly Christian. She is proud of it! It makes her who she is, that is her strongest quality, she brings it out whenever she can! That's what I think some hate about George Bush, too!
I'm all for ending the fighting among Americans! I think we would all be better off to just pray for the election, like many are already doing and let God's will be done! Keep the faith for McCain/Palin!!
    May God Bless our nation!

    • Posted By: farneyblakeley @ 10/26/2008 10:55:52 AM

Idiot. You accuse someone of playing the race card and then have the absolute gall to accuse Powell of voting due to his racist perspective. Perhaps he backs Obama because he knows we never should have been in Iraq in the first place. Powell was tricked into presenting that false intel to the UN before the invasion. They told him that $hit info was bullet-proof slam dunk material and that is how he presented it. He was betrayed by Bush/Cheney & so was the rest of the world. But you probably have no concept of that. You sound like someone whose head has been too far stuck of their ass to actually pay attention as their country was being sold down the river. Typical uninformed, over-opinionated Republican voter. You even manged to fit in a reference to God. What a cliche.

  • Posted By: billysid57 @ 10/26/2008 10:55:28 AM

Just so everyone knows, if you don't vote for Obama according to this liberal hack Jonathan Alter, then you're just simply uninformed. Maybe John we should just not allow them to vote altogether. Or maybe you should have ACORN fill out their ballot for them. Elitist media propaganda. Newsweek trash.

  • Posted By: American2theCore @ 10/25/2008 4:23:54 PM

So let me get this straight... Your position is that only "L.I.V's" would vote for McCain-Palin. WHAT A LOAD OF LIBERAL CRAP!!!! You people should be ASHAMED of yourselves!

    • Posted By: RangerDan @ 10/26/2008 10:53:10 AM

Mix liberal crap with conservative crap and you still have crap. I'm sick of both camps of whiny narcissistic a**holes. I'm ashamed of both.

  • Posted By: reallyfive @ 10/26/2008 10:53:10 AM

You are an ass. Maybe we aren't voting for The One because his record shows that he is a typical partisan politician? Maybe we aren't voting for The One because his performance, once elected, is mediocre at best? Maybe we aren't voting for the one because we don't believe in big government and higher taxes? Maybe we aren't voting for The One because we aren't thrilled with the idea of Pelosi and Reid ramming their very liberal agenda down the throats of America? Maybe we aren't voting for The One because we are concerned about what will happen to the courts for generations to come? You are the one who is ill-informed. It is YOU, and other elites like you, who will set race relations back in this country by telling the world that the only way McCain can get elected is because of low-information, racist voters.
