This is insulting to our nation and even to the MSM.

If Barak Obama wins, it will be because the population felt he was the best option and Newsweek will declare so.

If he loses it will be because there are doubts about his abilities/background and the fact that the populaton didn't feel he was ready.

To declare that the only way he loses is due to racism is insulting to those of both parties and all races.

    Shame on you Newsweek.

I can't believe I am agreeing with a DMYANKEE. But his (her) hypothesis about the voters of this election is closer to the truth than this mendacious article. True, there is some who will vote in accordance to thier views on race or allegience to party. But the vast majority will be voting on their dogmatism, as the MSM has deliberately skewed information essential for an informed vote.

Free Trade - My view support the American Worker by giving every company that employs an American Worker a tax credit. I would vote for letting any employer take 110% of there health benefit and payroll cost to the American Worker (Need to limit the 10% added credit to some number say $8000.). My view if only for a new employee - Employers will find a loop hole and layoff 1000 in one city and hire 900 in another. The credit would lower the cost of American made goods and therefore create JOBS.

Reporting like this...that's why I don't buy newsweek. I'm glad I checked in to see things have not changed here. Perhaps the so-called "T-shirt" voters are people that respect there own vote and do not provide there personnell choice to some pollster that randommly calls at dinner time every day?
And what about people who are voting "for" shin color. Our colleges (FL) parading students to the polls with a band to participate in the election of the first Black President, casting a vote for that reason only??? Glad there teaching self thought in our higher education establishments.

You are totally unestimating the Latino and African American vote, particularly in the South and Southwest. Dont be surprised folks if its not as close as you think. THis is a movement election, not just two old middle age white guys running for office again. The more you say what if McCain, if will only drive out Obama's base.

  • Posted By: LadyLibrarian @ 10/26/2008 10:14:47 AM

This is one democraft for McCain who most definitely hopes this article is on the money. We can't afford a nation headed by a Kwami crony.

If Obama is not elected this country will be a lot better off.

I would like to know why Gov. Palin is being even compared to Obama's wife Michelle for clothing expense?
Who ever they are(NYT) are comparing apples to Oranges(Obama).
Speaker of the HOuse wants a private jet to fly her home all teh time to SF! OH....those Democrats!!!
Our Democrat gov. put our state in a huge hole!! COUPLE BILLION! Promise no taxes & then tax & where's the money she taxed us for? Our gas in the Washington State is so taxed you have no idea!
SCOTTS! Blame the DEMOCRATS! Xlinton knew about the terrorist, he ignored them, now Obama wants to negotiate with the TALIBAN! OMG! The end of the world is coming you bet! Obama wants to give the Taliban their onw strip of space?! ACORN-ACORN isn't it funny how Obama just brushes it all off?

nellybenito, you are disallusioned! You need to step back and see this election for what it is, slanted! What has this country been for the last 8 eights Nelly? A haven for the wealthy and nobody else mattered. The rich blood sucked this country dry. They shipped all the manufacturing jobs overseas and received tax breaks, huge ones. But I guess to you this is free market at the cost of YOUR taxes going up to support people who paid into the system for years and deserve their tax dollars back to help them now that they are hurting. Who gives a damn about Texas, its 50 states and one state doesn't mean anything in the big picture.Welfare states? This whole country is a welfare state and don't forget to mention that "White People" are the biggest recievers of welfare in this country or do you think its the blacks? Have you noticed that for the last 10 to 15 years the job market has been shrinking? Liberals, Liberals, Liberals its all their fault. You are so full of it like most on the right. Did you or anybody watch as the GOP for the last 6 of 8 years give Bush a blank check and he just did the country dandy. Oppertunity everywhere, its raining money from the sky as we walk the golden streets! Yes, for the super rich, not you or I. Now its the Liberals who are going to ruin our country. can we get any lower? Double Standard for sure! Spread the wealth, no. How about we give the people back what they and their family members who help build this country back what they have invested, blood. But I guess you don't feel that you owe anything. Let me tell you and the rest of the right wing this, we as Americans all owe because people paid with their lives, blood and sweat for us to have the freedoms we have and we ALL owe.

skotts you are right on. I am neither Liberal or Conservative, I am American and a vet. If I were going into battle (which essentially we all are) I know who I would want to follow.

SNL last night had Coldplay on & they ended the show with the word "Obama". I'm really sick of uninformed people, the movie stars that all jump on the popular bandwagon. Reminds me of High school, be cool, vote for the popular one. Vote for the one that looks good, etc. You Democrats watch out! You think Bush put us in this mess, guess wrong! It was the democrats!
    VOTE MCCAIN/PALIN!

Media please listen - There is the WRIGHT factor. Obama was a member of that Church for 20 years and we are suppose to believe he didn't inhale. The Media would rather say, if it's not for Obama it "could be attributed only to race". I'm not questioning whether Obama believes he is a Christian - I question if Wright's God is the same God I know.

Let's remember what this country is all about, who we are and what we stand for. I am PROUD to be an American and I will be able to continue to say that after voting for McCain. I am ready and willing to wave the Red, White and Blue and know McCain is the one who will lead us back to our countries core values. Will you be able to say that if you vote for Obama?

  • Posted By: VFW6986 @ 10/26/2008 9:53:09 AM

Jonathan Alter here is your chance. If you truely believe Obama will win big then take all your money out of your dwindeling 401K account and take it to Las Vegas. Book makers there are betting on McCain, you can make a fortune! If your conviction is more than just wishful left wing propaganda then get off your bully pulpit and put your money where your mouth is.

Oh, and the U.S. has had a "share the wealth" plan ever since progressive taxation was put into use in the earlt 1900"s Is McCain proposing a flat tax? that would be a move away from "share the wealth" but I have not heard it. The last time the U.S. has a budget surplus was a Democratic administration. The current administration has seen goverment grow and the deficit expand to an amazing size and it still doesn't include the war expenses that are done "off budget" whatever that means. But forget that lets get to the real issues of the election, anyone notice McCain has not been wearing a flag pin lately?

May he best man win, and may there be something else on these forums shortly. Like, the 2012 campaign starts shortly and I seek the support of the Whigs.

Not sure if you are from CA or not, but the biggest problem with our budget is that CA doesn't have provisions like other states that says that you cannot pass laws unless you have a way to finance them. Therefore, bills are always being introduced and put up for election and people vote with their conscience and yet, there is no way to pay for them. Welfare is not bankrupting our state, I promise you that.

And don't forget, McCain supports the progressive tax that we have had in this country for the last 95 years, just as every president has before him, Republican or Democrat. "Spreading the wealth" is something this country has done for the past century much to the delight of most economists throughout the states as the world.

And btw, it's under your Republican rule, that we have just nationalized our banks. If you are so worried about socialism, call Bush and have him explain it to you.

Since about 99% of the Black vote will go to Obama BECAUSE of his race, it is obvious that racism has been present in Obama's campaign since the beginning. So how on earth could racism explain an Obama loss, in the unlikely event of that occurrence?

      • Posted By: muffinb @ 10/26/2008 9:45:36 AM

Bubba, as stated above 99% of the blacks will vote for Obama, not because he is black but because they vote for the democrat 99% of the time. Not because of the race.

Another factor is the last minute activities of conservative Catholic bishops and priests(including ours in Bend) who place overturning Roe v Wade above all other issues. They are writing articles and giving sermons that suggest a vote for Obama is equivalent to participating in abortions; abortions are intrinsically evil, therefore one's soul is at risk. This line of attack went against Kerry in 2004, and it's happening again.

I think this article is quite typical of the left-wing media trying to manipulate the vote.
Hey- Barry's already got ACORN on the payroll -busily stuffing ballot boxes. Should be "in the bag"- right?
    LIVs my ***.
What they are petrified of is an old, familiar and scary foe to them: The Silent Majority.
That's right, folks. And The Silent Majority are the VWIVs- "Very Well Informed Voters"- who see through all this liberal media "in the tank" love affair with "The One"- and will vote for experience and dignity.

BO's lack of experience and his poor judgment of "the company he keeps" will be paramount when they enter the sanctity of the voting booths and cast their ballot for McCain-Palin..
The polls are skewed toward the Democrat party to dishearten Republicans- but it's not working.
No matter what the media or the blogs- say about Sarah Palin- she has energized the base.
And the "dissed" Hillary supports are on board with McCain-Palin voters as well.

The only thing sweeter than the defeat of elite, haughty John Kerry and his angry, elite wife, Teresa Heinz- will be the defeat of the elite, haughty (inexperienced) Barack Obama and his angry, racist, elitist wife, Michelle.

Blah, blah, blah. More Eau de Desperate perfume. No defeat for Obama. McCain will be lucky if he even takes 15 states. Can you say extra toasted?

realchange please check out the following.
John McCain is a Acorn Man, He Attended a 2006 Rally in Support of Acorn as well as John McCain's Surrogates and GOP

On Monday, the Democratic-leaning group ACORN, which has been painted as a criminal enterprise by the GOP for its voter registration and housing policy efforts, pushed back against its critics by producing a photo of John McCain attending its March 2006 rally.

It was a reminder that, for all their electoral histrionics, Republicans have aligned themselves with ACORN in the past.

Indeed, in addition to the McCain photo, there is a host of examples of prominent McCain surrogates attending ACORN events, signing ACORN legislation, or complimenting the group's efforts.

Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, for example, partnered with ACORN in March 2008 for a "Homeownership Promotes The Economy" taskforce. More recently, Crist declared that -- contrary to GOP outrage -- he was not upset with the group's voter registration efforts in his state. The New York Times reported that ACORN supported a law signed by Governor Crist, which "changed the rules last year to restore the voting rights of about 112,000 former convicts."

In July 2005, meanwhile, another Republican governor, Rick Perry of Texas, signed ACORN's Lending Law Reform Bill that changed the state's homelending practices.

In July 2008, California Governor and McCain supporter Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a bill that ACORN helped draft aimed at California homeowners facing foreclosure.

        Story continues below

In June 2007, Minnesota Governor and McCain VP short-lister Tim Pawlenty signed a similar bill -- drafted by ACORN -- that helped homeowners get fairer deals on their mortgages.

"The legislation was drafted according to recommendations made by a predatory lending study group established by Swanson prior to the legislative session," wrote the Northwestern Financial Review. "The study group contained representatives from the banking industry and the mortgage brokers association, as well as consumer advocates from organizations such as Illegal Aid and ACORN."

As Governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney signed an anti-predatory lending bill that ACORN supported. In February 2006, Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman met with the ACORN Katrina Survivors Association. And back in July 2005, New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg actually got a kiss from ACORN's state leader, according to the publication City Limits, during an announcement that the city would protect or create 65,000 affordable units in a new housing proposal. Bloomberg, it should be noted, has not endorsed a candidate.

JFK was a junior senator, and actually presented less detailed plans on how his administration would differ from the republicans than Obama. McCain rightly decided not to use any Wright based attacks because it would open him up to questions about his courting of right wing postors with their own extreme views. Military sevice has never been a requirement for the presidency. And again JFK had very similar credentials to Obama with the exception of military service.
It is sad that I usually only hear McCain supporters calling Obama votes as "stupid". In North Carolina when Obama spoke at recently over 100 cars had their tires slashed, A young Bear was found shot in the head at a University with it's head wrapped in a Obama banner, and most recently a McCain volunteer made up a story where she was assaulted by a black man because she had a McCain sticker on her car.
Each man would make a acceptable president, with different views on how to fix key problems, but lets not talk about that everybody in the world knows the U.S. is not quite that stupid.
