In response to DaVoiceof(Un)Reason, here is some straight up stuff. Did you know that redistribute the wealth means lowering taxes for 95% of the people while increasing it for only 5%. In which category do you fall? I cannot believe that the RepubLIEcan machine makes issues of proposals that benefit Main Street. Here is an idea - let's lower the taxes for everybody, create massive federal debt, borrow from other countries, and instead of losing our houses, let's lose our country. The RepubLIEcans promote fiscal responsibility and simultaneously have created over $10,000,000,000,000 in debt. Keep up the UNPATRIOTIC work.
Regarding ACORN, there may be irregularities. Who cares what names appear on the registration list. The ONLY list that counts are the people that vote. Do you think the dead and fictitious people are going to show up to vote?

Forget the polls. If you merely look at the sampling numbers used by the networks and major media pollsters you will quickly see they sample 9-14% more Democrats then Republicans. In NO election has the spread of voters registered to either Party been more then 4 %. The professional pollsters who use a more realistic demographic model all have the race within the margin of error and it is widely believed the very large number of undecides, up to 10% will predominently break for McCain. Obama has all the votes he is going to get and may yet lose a few as this "redistribute the wealth" stuff goes viral.

It seems they were counting on the 1.3 MILLION new ACORN registrations to be predominantly Democrat except we now have learned that only 400,000 of the 1.3 million were actually new voters. The other 900,000 were a combination of address changes and outright FRAUD, which the FBI is currently investigating in 12 States.

George, I have respected your views for a long time. You are articulate and have, more often than not, presented good information. I am not quite sure the point of this article. Are you obligated to write something even if you don't have anything valuable to present? Very disappointing!

McCain says the fundamentals of the economy are strong. That positive spin just won't do in today's neurotic society of pussies. Oct 10, Paul Volker, Obama's economic advisor says on Charlie Rose, the fundamentals of the economy are strong. Companies are making profits. Two weeks ago on CNBC, Barney Frank calls for higher taxes and says the fundamentals of the economy are strong. As a serious student of history, I believe this generation of liberals to be the weakest version of humans to come down the pike. Pure, neurotic pussies...

    To paulte-
Yes, of course, the Clinton administration ran up the largest federal debt in history... oops, whait, that was W, Clinton left a surplus. Of course, all that spending on the war and lowering taxes, that put the US in debt to China. Let me guess, you think Clinton did that, too? You have anwered your own question...

We are BROKE period as a nation and as a citizen.

  • Posted By: lucy2008 @ 10/28/2008 1:39:36 PM

Our nation owes a great deal of money with a huge deficit, infrastructure to be built, energy independence, education and healthcare revamping. And here we are arguing over 4% increase in income tax for the wealthiest. Pretty incredible. Let's (1)delay Bush tax cuts expiration for businesses (let personal tax expire) during this economic crisis;(2)low national sales tax: General(1%),Import (3%),Luxury(2%), Service(2%), Vice(3%), for example. Basic items like food would continue to be tax free. Tax waved for certain Green purchases.

Party can not goes on credit card economy, wake up America. Allen G has messed up the financial institution so bad probably , it will take at least 8-10 years. Elected President demand frugality and tightening of individual finances, if this lead to recession so be it. There is no other viable prescription are there.

Oh woe is us! IF Obama wins, what is going to be left for the liberals to gnash their teeth about? The economy will recover in its own time and the onlt thing Obama can do about it is well....nothing. So then, sensing that you have been duped by that whole hopey changy thing, you will than vociferously and ferociously turn on your savior to find that he is hmmmm, not very accessible. You can then do nothing but sit back and watch your take home pay shrink and your government grow. Change??? Were you really thinking socialism? Because that is what you are going to get. And plenty of it.

George is on a defensive posture. I will take Carter's time anytime over W. At least hard working people kept their hard earned savings. Banks were standing ! Tell me , aren't we better of than...

We in the USA are addicted to four things. Cheap foreign oil, cheap illegal immigrant labor, cheap goods from China and cheap money to buy the first three addictions. If we solve these addictions we can regain our past prominence and strength. If we do not we will all be out of work and owe everything to China. Solution: Buy USA, goods, enforce employment laws, develop alternative fuels and balance government budgets at all levels.

I used to think of George F. Will as a conservative of thoughtfull insight into the political process. His forays into other subjects would bring a point of revelation as even to the subject of beer. But this political writer, respected for the years of contribution to presenting the conservative view., uncompromising in his conservative beliefs has in this historic election cycle been a dissappointment. His unflexible opinion of himself has proven to me that hubris doesn't recognize humility. That the Washington Beltway brotherhood of commentators has been as helpful to the election of the leader of the Repulblican party as a bunch of self interested, selfish and preening snobs. Noonan, Will, and others showed how shallow their interests are. Wanting to keep that national spotlight on their Sunday morning roundtables they've interjected shown themselves to be ungracious in thought, pitiful in expression in defense of all of the canidates that were presented in the Republican primary's. Thankyou George, Peggy and the others of the Beltway crowd for not recognizing the cultural upheavel, the socieital shift of an Obama administration and the intrusion upon individual freedoms that will result. I'm sure George can fill his column with world series anecdotal analogys of the election for the next week., Peggy can cry over Reagans grave and lament no great men are left. And for the others, You did not stand together, surely you will hang seperatly.

    husky...
I heard this back in 1976... Jimmy Carter and Democrats... Save the Country from the Republicans... We barely survived the Liberal Democratic Party's 'leadership'.
Republican Foreign Policy? Funny... Conservative Governments have come in to Europe... The US has not been attacked, and the most recent economic crises has been effectively lead by the US. Only liberals criticize the US.

Sorry, but you are wrong; I am sure that terrorists are already preparing to take advantage of Obama & liberal Dem's naiveness to hit back at us again.

And... last I recall, Bush is term limited and is not running in 2008. You need to check your position.

Contrary to the chronic laments of the majority of those commenting on George Will's essay so far, I think and I strongly believe that the United States will be better off with an Obama foreign and economic policy than a McCain Foreign and economic policy. Folks, the Neocons led by George Bush have lost. They have been disgraced by the failed philosophy of unreflective aggression and laxed regulation. Most importantly our citizens are suffering and we have lost international stature. Therefore, conservatives politicians do not deserve another four years of stewardship of our foreign policy and economic policy. We need a unified democratic government (in White House and Congress) to set another correct course for our nation.

I came to this site from RCP - I sure wouldn't spend money on this Newsweek (In the Tank for Obama) trash. Their conscience must be bothering them if they are publishing a conservative writer.

I just returned from a long driving trip in the South & West.... talked with a lot of people People are well on to the idea that the "Tank Media" stole this election for Obama. People aren't as dumb as Newsweek & Time think... they can see the slants, framing, and outright lies that these rags print.

Newsweek had better hope that their liberal Democratic base can keep them in business, because they have blown their respect with the rest of the country. As Obama/Pelosi/Reid fail, the inquiry will begin on how this corrupt obsolete party got in office - and Newsweek clearly did their part in lying.

It's ironic that after years of many difficult policies that have been sorted through this terrible "bailout" event will likely push us into a new wave of socialism. It will likely be worse than all of the financial sins of the recent past.

Keynesain economics is only tolerable while expanding, the focus on savings is a contridiction. We should restore a gold standard if we were against credit abuse but it's just not to this point yet. Big government and debts are the norm for now.

The voters are going to get exactly what they want on Nov 4...change. You might not approve of the change that's coming, but it will come. Why..? Because the majority of Americans have had enough of Republican misfeasance malfeasance and non-feasance. Eight years of George W. Bush should be enough for anyone, except the evangelical right. I prefer having judges interpret the Constitution as has been the method since Marbury, rather than have a chief executive ignore the Constitution when it suits him. Maybe now we can get back some respect from the rest of the world. Maybe now we can stop extraordinary rendition and torturing captives. Maybe now we can go after the architect of 9/11 Osama bin Laden, instead of wasting our wealth and the flower of our youth in Iraq, where we are neither needed nor wanted. Don't feel too bad, in eight years you can run the pitbull with lipstick again, and maybe this time turn fear into success at the ballot box.

The voters are in for a VERY rude awakening after Nov. 4. They are going to find that the "change" they thought they were voting for is NOT what they got. All of the sudden, lots of new programs, heretofor not mentioned or just hinted at, will be trumpted by Democrats. Here are some very solid predictions: no tax cuts will be enacted. Just like Clinton who promised tax cuts, no middle class tax cut will happen. However, the tax in

No doubt Obamaniacs like "ObamaYesWeCan" are outraged at the diminished civil liberties and privacy lost by the enactment of the Patriot Act that has served to protect our nation for terrorists and acts of violence.

Yet their is no evidence that the DOJ has ever used evidence gathered for any other purpose than to stop acts before they happen. The only areas that I have seen the government and businesses use American's personal data against them in a public forum is during this years election. The MSM and staff for the Obama campaign has repeatedly used government sources and private data to call out private citizens they disapprove of. Joe the Plumber is a good example. But this is just one of so manner similar cases.

Is this the future of America under full Democratic rule?

This is the evil of the Soviet Union purging non-conformists combined with the state control of the press displayed in Hitler's Germany and modern day China at it's very worst.

Be afraid people, very afraid. If you disagree with the enlightened powers that be in the Obama nation of 2009 then you better get used to gathering in secret in small gathering in dim light to discuss your "radical" ideas. The one-party system is about to be institutionalized.

Typical conservative rhetoric....."fear, fear, fear......But don't fear electing another conservative/Republican. He'll do a fine job and you won't have to "fear" anything anymore. What a joke, fool us once..........NOT AGAIN! Obama 08!
