With polls showing a tightening race for the White House, it looks like the Catholic vote again may be crucial to the outcome.
And an Oct. 23 poll records a startling 20-point swing this week among Catholic voters in favor of John McCain.
The IBD/TIPP daily tracking poll found Republican candidate McCain ahead of Democratic presidential candidate 48%-39% among the Catholics in its survey.
The shift was part of a strong overall swing toward McCain in the IBD/TIPP poll.
???McCain has cut into Obama???s lead for a second day and is now just 1.1 points behind. The spread was 3.7 Wednesday and 6.0 Tuesday,??? a press release stated. ???The Republican is making headway with middle- and working- class voters, and has surged 10 points in two days among those earning between $30,000 and $75,000. I think comics are generally moderates who goes for the worst in people, the bumbling fool, the oversized egos, the misinformed, the extremist, blah. Obama will provide rich material for comedy if he's like George Bush or Sarah Palin. But he's a different kind of politician, one who can be said to seem honest, humble and sincere enough, oh my god, can that actually be possible ? A sincere president ? We'll never know till he's elected. So to the extreme conservative, serious Republicans, loosen up, there's hope yet because who knows, he can be the laughing stock like George Bush was if he's not what he seems to be.

In this video, Obama, who claims he has "no ties with Acorn" notwithstanding the $800,000 paid to an Acorn group during the primaries, is campaigning at a convention of Acorn and I believe two other Community Activist's organizations. Ask if he will be their ally if he becomes President and pledge to meet with leaders of Acorn and the others in his first year, Obama says, quote:

"Yes, but let me say that before I even get inaugurated, during the transition, we are going to be calling all of you in to help us shape the agenda."

I believe that comical political commentary is a healthy and desirable part of our politics. The reasons given in this article, for satirists largely avoiding targetting Obama are dead-on... he has proven himself to be in America's best interests, will determinedly strive for them, and it is NOT right for America...nor will it be widely appreciated, to try to cast doubt on the "real deal"... as long as he remains the real deal. Keep a healthy skepticism, absolutely, humor and FAIR mocking helps me see truths I may not have otherwise seen, but low blows...well, we've just had MORE than enough of those provided in this campaign...if it doesn't speak to a widely-observed truth, it will be rejected and condemned, and the messenger along with it. Keep it above-the-belt and NEVER mean-spirited, or those who engage in (or support) such tactics will find themselves derided and mocked and ignored, instead of their intended target. It's hard to mock a really good man with really good intent and truly noble efforts for his nation, and I suspect Obama will be a tough one for satirists to mock much, aside from just mannerisms and speaking style, and perhaps a few controversial policy decisions...which will be common-sense enough to be mocked at satirists' own peril. To the satirists, I say...bummer, sorry he's not a Bush or a Cheney or a Palin or a McCain or even a Clinton or a Biden... all rich lodes of comedy... but be FAIR to him, or you'll earn this nation's wrath. Unfair mocking will earn my...and many other American's, wrath, in a time of great national suffering and need for unity and progress out of the deep pit of problems we currently find ourselves in. Do it right, and I'll laugh with you (much as I did at the bad-form "bowling'' poster of Obama I saw recently, that said, "I wanna bowl with the gangsters, but they all think I'm too white and nerdy.") But those who take cheap shots at him, will have my eternal contempt.,,and satirists who ignore the ENORMOUS popularity of Obama and his vision and message and goals, do so at their own peril.

THE DESPERATE REPUBLICANS ARE AT IT HOT AND HEAVY THIS WEEK.

For eight years, Bush and the republicans have conditioned America to be afraid and live in fear. They are now playing Americans for all they can get out of that fear card.

Fear and smear is how the republicans gain POWER and CONTROL OVER THE PEOPLE. LIES, DISTORTIONS AND EXAGGERATIONS are the tools they use to accomplish their purpose. This is what we are seeing right now.

If they make it, once again when the election is over, all the peon voters will be cast to the wayside and power, money and indifference to the middle and lower class will reign once again. We will be stuck for four or eight more years of the past.

I reject these false qualifications for President. I reject the abundance of lies, distortions and complete anti Obama fabrications which are condoned be the McCain campaign and appears on this and other web sites.

No talk on the economy, health care or any of the other issues with respect to what it takes for ordinary people to live and prosper in the reality of day to day.

Only attacks with concocted false relationships on Obamas character, even though the major news organizations have concluded that no real relationships existed or does exist.

HOW MANY OF YOU WILL AGAIN ALLOW YOURSELVES TO BE USED AND MANIPULATED IN THIS WAY?

I for one will NOT bow to their fear. I will NOT vote for the dishonorable one who attempts to GAIN THE PRESIDENCY BY PLAYING US FOR FOOLS THROUGH LIES AND DECEIT.

I will vote for the one who seeks the Presidency VIA THE HIGH ROAD WITH VISION, A COMMAND OF THE ISSUES AND A GENUINE CONCERN FOR ALL PEOPLE IN THE COUNTRY.

Fascinating that the world has changed so much that, it is the Black Obama who is more educated, articulate, better dressed and more world wise than the White Old man McCain.

The same way China is soon to be the worlds super power.

I'm sure once Obama's elected he'll have plenty of time to develop a comedic following. But how can you blame the late night talk show hosts, satirists, and SNL folks for zeroing in on Palin, Bush the Younger, and Bill Clinton when they provides such rich material? The temptation to make fun of them is simply too great when they continually exhibit symptoms of foot-in-mouth disease.

If you notice, they don't spend a lot of time picking on McCain other than swiping at his age - which he has no control over - because although he's done some sad things this election cycle, in general people respect his POW experience, even if they don't agree with his politics.

And they don't spend much time on Biden, because why make fun of a guy who already admits he's capable of being a goofball? No sport, there.

If you don't want to be the butt of jokes, don't do or say dumb things while you're trying to be serious.

So far, Obama hasn't. But he will and when he does, he'll hear about it.

If you're new and fighting to be taken seriously, the last thing you want is derision and to be made to look silly.

We may also be exhausted from the viscous satire and the self parody of our soon to be former president of the last 8 years and just want a leader we can look up to for once -- no malapropisms,no catastrophes, no blue dresses, no scandals, no dysfunction. It's been 56 years since we had a ticket without a Bush, Clinton or Nixon on it.

Maybe we can continue to target those who deserve it such as Michele Bachmann, Joe Lieberman, Lindsey Graham, Orin Hatch, John Boehner, Saxby Chamblis, John Cornyn, Pete Stark, William Jefferson (with the $90K in his freezer), Steve King, Joe Baca, (who called a fellow congresswoman a "Whore") John Murtha, Sarah Palin's mentor Ted Stevens, you get the idea.

My goodness, poor little harley called me a bitch. Well, I am a 54 year old white male - I suppose that must make me a bitch is his/her/it's eyes. I am so glad Osama has it on his side!
