Why Obama Needs a Tina Fey

It is not true that the satirists are handling Obama with kid gloves either because he is Black or because they don't want to subject their audience to grimness in light of two wars and a bad economy. Satirists are handling Obama with kid gloves because they want him to win, by and large. Call it the "liberal satirist bias".

Once Obama is elected, I speculate, they'll begin grilling him with the same energy they expend on McCain and Palin. They'll mock his excessive deliberateness, his lack of humor, his playing it safe, even his looks.

Obama is hardly good-looking. He's young -- and therefore good-looking to the extent that America idolizes young-looking-ness. But he does indeed look rather like a Black version of Alfred E. Neuman.

However cautious and deliberate he might be, he has a ton of colossal problems facing him as a President. He'll have his share of stumbles and, yes, even gaffes. And then the satirists will roast him, as they should.

I say this as a die-hard Obama fan.
