All this peripheral connection - every legislature helps award projects, most will turn out great, a few will not be well managed. All this whilele McCain was actually censured for his role in the Savings and Loans Keating 5 scandal where McCain actually did favors for a donor and cost taxpayers money.

As for socialism or spreading the wealth as Obama is currently accused of wanting to do. This is what all presidents do since the twentieth century Reagan included. This is something McCain does often.
    - The tax rebate in March - socialist (went to everyone who files returns even those who do not have a positive tax liability).

    - The health tax credit proposed by McCain - socialist (also goes to everyone who file returns even those who pay no net taxes).

    - The Paulson bailout plan (before democrats inserted an equity scheme) - socialism for the wealthy

    - McCain???s blanket forgiveness and mortgage bailout plan - the biggest socialist plan of this election year.

Joe the Plumber argument works better with Obama tax plans because he will get to buy the business faster, there will be less deficit and deficit spending, and more of the tax cuts to the middle rather than going into foreign investments and luxuries goes back to the top in increased business - bottom up, opposite of trickle down economics.

liberty first, I know that when we have the biggest deficit ever, cutting taxes is not plausible. Have you taken a basic math class? Republicans continue to fool people that by always cutting taxes good things will come. Well, the surplus we enjoyed 8 years ago has not turned into a negative 10 trillion and growing. Glad myself, kids and grandkids will be paying for the big time mistakes made today.

    • Posted By: libertyfirst @ 10/28/2008 12:44:13 PM

I for one would argue for cutting spending first. Then cut taxes. And, yes, I too am thoroughly disgusted with the spending proposals by Bush that were later passed by BOTH parties -- and with the Dems in control of both houses for the past two years. But I don't agree that increasing taxes "on the wealthy" is a solution. Nor is it fair, since they already carry the greatest percentage of taxes paid -- as per our current progressive tax system is laid out. Why a rich man should pay more would suggest that he "costs" society more...which he does not. In fact, a rich man stands a better chance of benefiting society more by freely spending more of his wealth. When progressive-liberals argue that it is more "fair" that those with more pay more, they lose me as a voter. The answer to our ridiculous budget deficits lies in the ability for this country to reduce its addiction to government and its coffers.

For 14 of the last 16 years you had the chance to cut governemnt. Instead you used it to hand sole-sourced contracts to buddies and rip off the government. Privatize. Steal from everyone and blame the poor. Nice racket.

WE WILL BRING VICTORY!! KILL THEM ALL!!! You idiots!!! Just a preview of an Obama administration. Equality only applies if you believe and speak the way the are told to believe and speak. Do not ever call me an idiot! I just say, again, just wait and see.

    • Posted By: CA reader @ 10/28/2008 2:22:18 PM

Wasn't it the Bush administration that labeled anyone "unpatriotic" who spoke out against the war?

      Idiot!!!!!

  • Posted By: Desert Dem Son @ 10/28/2008 2:05:18 PM

I don't mind paying my fair share of taxes. Its the ones that have more than they know what to do with their money that don't want to let go. Yet they've been able to convince hard working people that some day they will be enjoying the same benefits as they if they work hard. Working hard only gets you a sore back! Luck plays a huge amount on whether you get rich or not. why is it the rich represent a smaller percentage of the population but have a bigger piece of the pie than ever before?

    • Posted By: libertyfirst @ 10/28/2008 2:20:59 PM

Why is it somehow inherently right for you to take more of someone elses pie? And besides, our economy is NOT a finite pie, but the best means available to pursue what you choose. You bet, luck pays a big portion of it. Let's keep it that way. It sure beats a caste system, or a rigid social structure, or a contrived governmental policy of choosing the winners and losers. It's not perfect, but I'll take my chances with working smarter and harder to get ahead. But using the government to steal from my neighbor is wrong.

All of us miss the big picture. What goals are the parties advancing for America? Where do they want to see America in 5 years? 10 years? 20 years? Out of all the ideals each party espouses, where have they shown the discipline to pursue them? As it stands, it's all about talk. Leadership is about getting things done. There is no leadership in politics from the top down and as a result America and its citizens suffer. Neither party has earned a single vote IMHO. Wedge issues, outmoded philosopies, mischaracterizations, lies, greed, and corruption dominate. Citizens are treated like sheep only dumber. Real change will only come when citizens realize this system is no way to run a country and keep turning these poor excuses for leaders over until we get some that can perform. They need to earn our votes with performance or be made to leave. It's our fault as citizens for putting up with it and not seeing the bigger picture.

  • Posted By: powell1981 @ 10/28/2008 1:56:32 PM

Why is it so wrong that people making more money, pay more taxes?? thats what Obama wants to do....Its a shame that greed is so evident in this country.....

    • Posted By: libertyfirst @ 10/28/2008 2:15:46 PM

Its wrong because on many fronts, not the least of which is that they already pay more in outright dollars, pay most of the taxes (per IRS data), and do so despite having only one vote, and consume the same amount of air, roads, bridges, military protection, schooling (on average) etc... as the guy who pays nothing but gets State and Federal welfare benefits as well as an "earned income tax credit" -- i.e. check from Uncle Sam each year. What's fair about that? Who do you think does the lion's share of charitable giving (again, check IRS data)? The rich. Do they consume more? Sure...but then they end up paying more back into the system via sales tax. Sell assets? Tax them again. Die? Tax them again. This notion that the evil rich are to somehow to be blamed for being greedy is both childish and the pot calling the kettle black. The folks ranting for more help from the government are just as greedy; its just that they want to take someone's elses money rather than earn it.

    What has Obama run?

In addition to his state and US Senate duties, one organization Obama has run:

In the last two years he has crafted and run an organization with 730 offices nationwide with more than 1.5 million staff (paid and volunteers) with a huge payroll. This is his campaign and he has run it flawlessly.

And running an organization of this size in such a flawless manner is no small feat and has been widely lauded by national leaders, economists, and major news organizations.

NOW CONTRAST THIS TO THE CAMPAIGN OF THE ONE WHO IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE ALL THE EXPERIENCE, JOHN MCCAINS. HIS CAMPAIGN HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT INFIGHTING ABSENT OF DISCIPLINE AND LACK OF FOCUS AND DIRECTION.

It is a false assumption to equate longevity and experience to judgement and capability. Comparing these two campaigns is factual evidence of that premise and would not .
the running of their administrations would be quite similar?

What executive experience does McCain have? Will he be taking advice from his VP who doesn't know what a VP does?

  • Posted By: DaveWK @ 10/28/2008 2:13:02 PM

Dear pot; kettle calling. McCain and Palin both have been censured for their proven unethical conduct (Keating Five and Troopergate matters). Add to those their consistent lack of compunction over false accusations like these, like those pertaining to Bill Ayers (also debunked by FactCheck.Org), like the recent, false claim that Obama already had his inaugural speech written (actually it was a Clinton staffer who'd written and published something along those lines many months ago). They tell these lies, then retell them or simply move to the next lie without looking back. The good news is that people don't seem to be buying them.

  • Posted By: Ezana @ 10/28/2008 2:05:42 PM

    loriw
And Annenburg is a McCain contributor...what's your point?

  • Posted By: Palin who? @ 10/28/2008 1:59:42 PM

.....and, like someone said earlier, he ran a campaign of fear into a illegitimate war...does that sound familiar? You can't call bush a complete socialist...but a "Good Ol' Boy Socialist" would fit fine....sorry but I think the rich are rich enough.

  • Posted By: jimmurray1946 @ 10/28/2008 1:59:30 PM

if it comes from the government then its paid for by taxes. this includes welfare, social security and disability benefits. that's just a partial list but probably the most common. I'm not sure how this forum got on this track but it is a valid point if we want it it will be paid for by tax, if we don't vote for it we wont get it. Its a simple fact, someone has to pay and that someone is us.

  • Posted By: Desert Dem Son @ 10/28/2008 1:58:32 PM

yea ssounds like MCCAINand the republicans. How do think they get rich.. Through their hard work, no through the giveaways they've taken while in office 28 out of the last 40 years.

Keep drinking that Kool-Aid Obama followers! Sad but true that you are going to be looking back a year from now , slapping your head and saying"Wow, I could have had a Conservative in office" Just wait.

handy2448, get that racist bull$hit out of here. I'm white, assuming by your post you are white....guess what, the white people in office for the last 50 years have really screwed the country up...including brainwashing you. Maybe we can give a black person a chance every 50? Does that sound fair to you?

If you have 47 minutes to spend before going to the polls about historic parallels between our government and governments of the 1930's, watch this clip:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjALf12PAWc

And all of you women out there....you really want a woman in office that is actually going to take you a stop backwards...Look we already know the two major topics to avoid at the dinner table are religion and politics....They have NO business coinsiding together...Truth is, woman should always have the right to choose, and men and women should always have the right to love and marry who they want....with all thats going on in our world, amazing how we pick the BS to fight over....Palin has no business in the white house.....Hiliary Clinton was a different story...

  • Posted By: tiredoflies @ 10/28/2008 12:44:41 PM

It is fact that Palin fires anyone who does NOT kiss up to her and hires all her friends.

Bush brought all his friends from Texas.

McCain, beholden to Bush, has hired all his team.

McCain and Palin are the only two in this race convicted with ethics violations.

And in case you do not get it, that means McCain and Palin have been PROVEN to be dishonest and deceitful in performing their duties in government.

    THAT IS FACT.

    • Posted By: Braes @ 10/28/2008 1:46:28 PM

Wanna know what you call 3 Republicans meeting in public? Parole Violation.

  • Posted By: Desert Dem Son @ 10/28/2008 1:42:43 PM

What is difficult to understand? MCCain wants to continue taking taxes from the middle class and keep giving it to himself and his best "Bush".

He also wants to reduce his taxes even further by reducing his capital gains. It doesn't take a genius to understand that most people that will benefit from this is mcCain and Bush, through their stock transsactions. Companies will not add jobs because they don't get any money out of this only the stockholders.

As for the health plan... show me a health plan that costs $5000 a year. Most of the people that need a health plan are the unemployed or underemployed. They won't be eligible for any deductions. You see Republicans use "deductions" as a code word. They'remeant as tax break for the rich that can afford deductions' We can't even afford the service for the deduction. What does Bush believe? The same!

McCain keeps talking about that leaving Iraq is tantamount to surrender. When are we Americans going to fface the facts. These people have been fighting for thousands of years. Yes I said thousands opf years. They fight against the ewish, against the christians, and mostly agianst themselves. Why should we allow our young brave men keep dying for a cause that is neither apparent nor just. What do we care if they have a democracy there or not. We have a democracy here and look at the internal strife , class versus class, race versus race, rich versus poor, even young versus old (SS). Let's get our #$%* together first and then we can try to convince others we have the perfect system. The oil there will only keep the Rich keep getting richer. What coicindent that our american oil companies have bought leases in Iraq. Was this war about terrorists from abroad or internal economic terroists like cheney , Bush, McCain. Isn't also scoicindental that with less than 6 months left to go we had to give our childrens future away because we were lied to again by Bush. And who was the chief engine driving this giveaway...MCCain.

When are we going to learn that anything a republican says is a half truth at best and usually an out and out lie. But they do have good looking blondes! By the way Palin is not attractive. She's a plain jane.
