Aw - too bad. The bargain barns that run the small business-person OUT of business now don't want the average Joe to protect themselves from further taking it in the shorts. The age of the bargain barns like Walmart, et al, will hopefully suffer with the diminishing Republican party - they've both made a disgrace of America.

The US Chamber of Commerce is a criminal friendly enterprise that actively promotes illegal workers. Here is what the Director of Homeland Security, Michael Chertoff had to say about the Chamber lobbying against the E-Verify system:

"Groups like the Chamber of Commerce have told us, they haven't been coy about it ... there are many businesses that rely on illegal migration in order to carry out their activities and it would hurt them if they had to carry out the rule," Chertoff said.

Slave masters? Master of the universe? Have you worked for a big company anytime in the last 30 years? I have been on both the floor and in supervisory positions at automobile plants and if you think the corporate/supervisor side has all that power then you need to try doing that job for a week. There are these things called contracts that unions make with corporations. The biggest problem with them is not that they favor corporate so much as that the workers tend not to bother to read them but instead "think" they know what they say and blame coprporate when it doesn't.

It is a matter of power, not what is good for shareholders. The GOP has given the corporate titans near unlimited power over their employees and they like it. They are masters of the universe. It is the same feeling of omnipotence that slave masters felt. So, they demonize unions which diminish their power.

Interesting that this article slams "Big Business" as not having a clue about what they are doing. There's a reason they are "Big", it's because they understand the economy better than any of these reporters or politicians. It's always easy to sit on the sideline and point to their failures but these are the companies that make billions of dollars each year, something that these reporters, politicians or even the vaunted economists can't say they are able to achieve.

Did it ever cross the mind of Mr. Cross that the bad news from the Clinton years was finally reflected in the Bush years. I've run an medium size service industry for years and the "proof in the pudding" is always after the project is finished. If it was great then you will about it right away but if it bears bad taste, then usually it is the next day gossip. As we see today, look how long swept the dirt under the rug and got away with it. I guess the 2 to 1 Wall Street funding to Obama is "cheap insurance" for the future. People forget about the record employment Bush faced as Clinton walked out the door. Don't for that Internet Bubble BIll rode on.

I wonder if Obama has any plans to repeal the odious Patriot Act. That, more than anything, solidified my permanent opposition to the Republican Party. Those who desire safety over freedom deserve neither.

Obama's arrogant and foolish proposal about everyone taking off on election day in this economy is really a very damaging idea. We need productivity to stimulate growth not suppress it. Oh but since his followers want to suppress free speech and fair elections I am not surprised.

I follow an economist named Bob Proctor. He has called the top and bottom of every market crash since the 70s correctly.
He perfectly predicted the current meltdown and the picture he paints about what will happen next
is terrifying. He thinks it will be worse then the great depression.
The banks in the U.S. are going under one after the other. Countrywide ,Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers and Merrill Lynch , Fanny and Freddy Mae ,AIG
The government took them over because they are bankrupt. Even with the goverment nationalizing hundreds of billions of dollars in debt the stock market is crashing
the credit markets are frozen and all of us may suffer beyond anything seen in generations
McCain just like Bush " doesn't understand the economy".
That not just my opinion its his own words. Not only does he not understand how to fix it but he does not understand how its been broken.
It is no surprise that he doesn't. The people that make up these securities use quantum mathematical models very few people understand.
Bush and McCain both can take the credit for this mess since they helped deregulate the laws that were protecting us.
Bush's economic advisor Phil Graham wrote the deregulation bill that allowed banks to take huge risks with all of our future.
Now, Phil Graham is the head of McCain's economic policy. He is also McCain's choice for the next secretary of the treasury.
No one in this country can afford for that to happen. The last time Bush met with his economic advisors was in March. He was the last to know somthing was wrong. Phil Graham had the guts to say that we are in a mental recession after he helped create the worst economy meltdown in our lifetime. Check out this link to the truth http://my.barackobama.com/keatingvideo
It will take the best and brightest minds in the world to get us out of this nightmare. As bad as Bush has done, McCain would be
even more destructive because things are in much worse shape. The next president will not inherit a budget surplus like Bush did but a crashing economy and a 11,600,000,000,000 (trillion) dollars deficit. Most of it Bush created and it will take decades to pay it back.
If you do what you have always done then you will get what you have always got.
When it comes to policy Bush and McCain are the same 90 percent of the time.
So why are the polls even close then ?
Mccains team just said they no longer want to talk about the economy.Instead they would like to spend time talking about obama
which means running the biggest smear campaign in history.
They think they can just tell you lies and you wont be smart enough to see through it
Let's teach him we are smarter than that
Stand up and hold them accountable
Bush isn't on the ballot this year but his policies are
    Elect Obama Biden 2008

The point is do you trust the government to spend your money better than you could yourself. Sorry i do not. By the time my money tricklesdown after all they waste and pork is spent there really is not much left to help. I would rather give directly to others to help. Also it is nice for others to decide what I can afford to pay in increased taxes. First of all that money could be re-invested in our business to stimulate more jobs and purchase increases which benefits good producers. But no we will give it to the government to waste. Obama's proposal to go line by line on the federal budget is interesting since the president has no line item veto. As an attorney you would think he might know that. Obama and his supporters chilling effect of going after average americans if they dare ask a question is frankly very unamerican. If you support this nonsense be prepared to someday be on the receiving end.

Here's a video in which Obama discusses fiscal responsibility. Anyone who cares about the economy should see it.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5d4a6RNhCUo

And on this web page, you can calculate the amount of your TAX RELIEF under Obama's plan. (This tax calculator is for personal income, not for businesses. Remember that if you itemize, your tax cut will be higher than what the calculator shows. However, Obama's new 1040EZ allows people to get credit for some itemizations without having to fill out the long form and schedules.)

You can get even more information on Obama's economic policies from the Blueprint for Change.

Taxation is and always has been a redistribution of wealth. Once you recognize that point, the question is, how are we going to spend the money we raise in taxes?

For the past 8 years, our tax dollars have gone to killing civilians in Iraq and giving big payoffs to Halliburton (co-incidentally owned by the Cheney family). And since there wasn't enough in the Treasury to do this in style, we borrowed money from communist China and ran up the national debt to pay for it. Then, once the fallout from the Republican deregulation of corporations kicked in and the market started collapsing, the tax dollars are also being stretched to bail out the Wall Street fat cats.

Like 80% of Americans, I am sick of this particular redistribution plan.

Obama's plan reduces taxes on 95% of Americans. The other 5% of us (who make over $250,000 a year) can afford to pay an extra 3%. That extra 3% comes out to only $300 for every $10,000 they make above $250,000. It's not going to kill them. In fact, if you make over $250,000 a year, $300 probably doesn't mean much to you. The other source of increased revenue will be making corporations that ship jobs overseas pay a higher share of tax. Right now, these corporations pay a lower share than companies that keep their employees in the USA. No more incentives to hurt America. We all can agree with that.

Obama promises to go through the Federal budget line by line and cut all the wasteful spending. He promises to have transparency, a website where you can go and actually see the real Federal budget, not the made for TV version you can access under Bush.

Furthermore, Obama's economic plans will lead to a strong economy, an educated workforce, more American based jobs, affordable health care, and freedom from foreign oil. We will regain our position as a world leader, a nation that spreads democracy not with guns and threats, but with prosperity and diplomacy.

How do I know this? I read Obama's Blueprint for Change. And I compared it to what McCain had to offer (more tax cuts for corporations and the wealthy, more wars, a really inadequate health plan, and the stated intention of overturning Roe v. Wade). You really should visit the websites of both candidates and read their platforms.

Corporations need to learn to give back to the political system and the workforce that enables them to make such wealth. Greed and selfishness will only do them in, which is precisely what did in Wall Street and the banks over the past few weeks. In the meantime, the naive and uninformed holler "socialist" over Obama's rather capitalist plan to give 95% of working Americans a tax break -- allowing more earners to keep more of their money -- while they overlook the very real socialism of Bush using taxpayer dollars to buy government ownership in private banks! It's senseless!

These last few months have indeed been for our economy and financial markets.. But if you think it can???t get any worse, it can. From America???s founding through 1930, we had several financial panics and recessions. But it took the foolish tariffs, taxes, and regulations of Hoover - Roosevelt to produce the first decade long "Great" Depression.

On November 4th, vote yes for the redistributionist Obama, yes for a Democrat-dominated Congress, and yes for the second "Great" Depression. Or vote for McCain as a veto on the most extreme plans of the leftist Democrats.

Where do the Democrats think money will come from in the future? Do they believe someone is going to deliver a bag of money to their porch every day? They probably do believe this to be true. Good luck with all that. Slam corporate America all you want, but when it comes to jobs, money, and your financial future, voters better 'think about it' and snap out of their little 'the new change government will make it all better dream world'. The only 'change' you're going to have is the quarters and nickels in your pocket.

Why do CEOs have to worry? They get that big, fat golden parachute if they fail. So what if the economy tanks and the middle class blows away.

...................................Big Business and the Republican Party are pardners in protecting the interests of the Elete, Well Positioned VIPs of our society. The CEOs who make millions and get so many of the perks and priveledges that the Average American never sees. "Maverick" McCain has made a career of taking care of the "Special People" in our Nation who live very comfortable, secure lives. McCain talks about Joe The Plumber but he really works for the CEOs and the Top Echelon Corporate Board Members and Ranking Corporate Staff Members..........even though McCain gives us his political jive during the Campaign he has been a Friend of the Rich for many, many years!!!
