Everyone is actually confused on what Americans really belive in. The existence of so many churches of different dominations just add to the confusion. The Americans are going crazy.

I find it funny that Newsweek has finally published an issue on the fall of Christianity in America when Christianity is apparently alive and well in these United States. In reference to the submission below, Christians would also have to believe that plants grew before there was a sun; but then again God also makes light before he makes the stars so I am quite certain that martialguy really knows very little about the Bible and should stick to scientology, which seems to me far more convincing than any other creation stories.JK, JK, JK

    Scientologists beliveve that:

    * Psychiatry and psychology are destructive fields which must be abolished.
    * Spiritual beings ( thetans) live many lifetimes. Thetans lived among extraterrestrial cultures before becoming trapped in bodies on Earth. Thetans were brainwashed by these extraterrestrial cultures as a means of population control
    * Thetans have existed for ???tens of trillions??? of years. During that time, thetans have been exposed to a vast number of traumatic incidents and have made a great many decisions that influence their present state. Thetans were conditioned by extraterrestrial dictatorships such as Helatrobus in an attempt to brainwash and control the population. These early events collectively are called "space opera."
    * Xenu (sometimes Xemu) was the ruler of the "Galactic Confederacy." 75 million years ago Xenu brought billions of people to Earth in spacecraft, stacked them around volcanoes and detonated hydrogen bombs in the volcanoes. The thetans then clustered together, stuck to the bodies of the living, and continue to do this today. Isolating thetans and neutralizing their ill effects are neccesary.

Christians believe that night and day existed before the sun, the earth was flat; and the earth is just a few...thousand years old and.... dinosaurs therefore roamed in peoples' backyards.

If you have average IQ and you research more into religions; probably you want to convert to...alcoholism

So what. She can believe whatever she wants under the rights of my Constitution. And actually 100 percent should believe in witches...since they are a registered religion in these United States and the national religion in some other countries eg. Haiti. If the inverse of witchcraft is protestantism, it is her choice to follow her own convictions. To my way of thinking she found the treasure in the field, has sold everthing and bought that field.

I would have to agree with you. People look down on us because we are Christians. And everyone watches or listens to the news. I think you are right. There shoule be more Christians in the media. But we dont know if there is today, and if they are actaully standing ground or not. Because as we know it God tells us its a hard life to live as a Christian. We get mad fun of. We all believe in something. And we all try to tear it.

    • Posted By: YashBudini @ 01/05/2009 1:00:00 PM

That's incorrect. It's religious extremists that are mocked and condemned. But, like others that play the race or gender card, you fall back on playing the religious card whenever it suits you.

  • Posted By: chike1 @ 01/01/2009 2:06:54 AM

Why is it that most of the media and most of these newsweek writers are so anti Christian and anti the bible? Satan seems to have a huge influence in the media. We need to have more Christians in place in the media so that Christianity will have a more fair view and perception. These guys will idolize the image of a so called mother ape, dinosaurs, the moon, and the stars and insist that is normal. Christians choose to worship God and the media tries its hardest to make us look like we are crazy.

This continued railing against Sarah Palin and her accomplishments, intellect and spiritual awareness is so predictable from the sources from which it comes. Does Lisa Miller take her thoughts seriously? This is a typical approach to anything connected to ones Christian belief system. First we had that article trying to affix a "square peg in a round hole," which she feebly attempted to give Biblical justification for homosexual marriage (sic).

Based on what she has written, past and present, its obvious, she doesnt know sic'em about scripture. She may know some of the words, but she will never have the understanding as outlined in Matthew 11:25.

Further more, The Bible is not a living document, God is a God of absolutes, no shades of gray or political correctness. I would suggest that she learn the true meaning of "abomination" as well.

Latter Day Saints is not a Christian denomination - it is Mormon - Mormonism is not a denomination of Christianity - a denomination is considered to be something like Pentecostal, Baptist, Lutheran, Methodist, Church of Christ, even Catholics could fall under denomination because they adhere to the Bible. Latter Day Saints adhere to the Book of Mormon - who wrote this article and where did they do their research? A Junior High locker room? And to echo what zamar said - nothing that is mentioned as radical here is actually radical. If you are a believer and you give any credence or authority to the bible, then these issues and statements are nothing extraordinary. The sermon quote from Mike Rose is a reference to scripture - a royal priesthood, a chosen generation, born again, washed by the blood of Jesus - all of that is found in scripture. Even the apocalypse the writer keeps pointing to as radical - has the author even cracked open the pages of Revelation? The battle refers to those who are believers being gathered with Christ - and not to condense it too much, but basically at the climax of the whole conflict, we're surrounded by Satan and all of his forces and Jesus basically utters a word and just like that the battle is over. No mention of guns, sword fighting, or bloody battle. So you make it out to be a lot more "guns and bibles" than it really is. It's really just... Bibles... to use your analogy...

As for statements about Israel - key in on the fringe groups saying Israel ought to be jealous. The New Testament is VERY clear that Israel is "the root" - the trunk of the tree if you will, and that Christians are "grafted" into the vine as "branches" - meaning we're part of the family now, but Israel remains the chosen nation of God - and they play a huge role even in the "apocalypse" in which God redeems the nation of Israel in the end. So all in all, this article lacks any journalistic substance - in effect all it does is try to shuffle Christianity into a place where the author(s) can try to make it seem like a laughable and ludicrous minority of backwoods rednecks who are so isolated and dumb they just don't know any better. The only problem is - you forgot about the continental United States - the southern evangelicals, the coasts - where you have two of the most famous churches in the country - Brooklyn Tabernacle, and Saddleback Church... again, Newsweek - this article was ill informed, more of a gossip column than an exposition - and frankly, just plain ignorant of pretty much everything. Get real.

Blind faith helps people to believe that the earth is flat, and the world was formed almost...overnight. It is a companion to enjoy...the Dark Ages

The Wall Street crisis was planned the night of Obama's meeting at Bill Ayres home to put Obama in The White House. Together they put a beautiful plan into place.

This Strategy was first elucidated in the 1966 issue of 'The Nation' Magazine by a pair of radical Socialist Columbia University professors, Richard Andrew Cloward and Frances Fox Piven.

    David Horowitz summarizes it as:

"The strategy of forcing political change through an orchestrated crisis. The "Cloward-Piven Strategy" seeks to hasten the fall of Capitalism by overloading the Government bureaucracy with a flood of impossible demands, thus pushing society into crisis and economic collapse.
    unquote

Obama begin with ACORN by funneling millions into their organization. He then trained ACORN to stage protests in banks to force them to issue risky loans or they would be threatened to face racial charges. ACORN was trained to intimidate financial institutions into giving ???Ninja??? loans to people with NO assets, NO job and NO income, who couldn???t afford these loans.

That caused the housing bubble two years ago it was by ACORN's actions they were able to destroy our credit system.

As this played out, D-Barney Frank and D-Chris Dodd were able to cover up the millions of improvident loans to these bad risky house buyers. And Barney Frank and his chums successfully were able to block all of President Bush's attempts to put a rein on this problem.

So Fannie & Freddie was forced to purchase all these failed subprime mortgages.

Then both Frank and Dodd denied that there were any problems, and refused the Bush Admin. requests to set up a regulatory agency to watch over Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and they were still pushing for these agencies to go even further in promoting sub-prime mortgage loans almost up to the 'minute they failed'.

Democrats then blamed Bush saying it happened on his watch knowing it would hurt the Republican Party in the election setting it up that Barack Obama could use this to his advantage.

Karl Marx once compared a Revolutionary struggle with the work of the mole, who sometimes burrows so far beneath the ground that he leaves no trace of his movement on the surface.

Barack Obama is that Marxist mole !

It is clear that the author(s) of this and other articles regarding application of Biblical truth have no idea what they are talking about. There is nothing in Sarah Palin's religious practice that is not very clearly seen in the Bible. Your ignorance and bias disqualify you from being taken seriously in matters of writing on anything involving Christian practice. Journalism is dead! No need to subscribe to Newsweek . . .

  • Posted By: leonfox @ 12/10/2008 1:36:37 AM

wow...your bias is so heavily used that you cannot even distinguish sentces from one another. Using Jesus and Witch-craft in the same sentence, oh Heaven forbid, as it seems that you know enough to talk about it right? Who are you kidding. Any devote Christian person will know that you haven't even the slightest idea of Christianity or what your talking about. What your doing is taking everything totally out of context and twisting it to your own thought and bias. Do you even know what the word rebuke means? I mean really, are you that stupid to even start your article with your apparent unclear definition of rebuke? here's a definition...

Rebuke - To criticise harshly; to reprove. Also, since you seem quite dense, here's another one for you.
Reprove - To convey one???s disapproval of; to rebuke, especially in a gentle, sweet, kind tone.

Since it's already clear to others that you know nothing about Christianity to critisize it, it's just a waist even reading your garbage

Miss miller are you demented. Laying on of hands on people is in the Bi ble. It could have been for healing or just praying for her. You know absoulety zero about teh Bible and it's teachings. You hav eyour own agenda and it is to attack and smear the Christian, Bible, and God this is obvious by your bias reporting. Newsweek is a gutter piece of trash anyway.

I'm not as "devout" as Governor Palin, but during the VP debate, I was immediately struck by a comment she made, referring to "The city on the hill" as something that Reagan said.
My first thought was: "Isn't that from the Bible, not Reagan?"
(Yes it is: New Testament, Book of Matthew.)
I thought: Even though I don't go to church, do I know more about the Bible than someone who seems to profess a great faith?
And if she did know that the phrase was a line from the Bible, why would she agree to attribute it to Reagan, instead of the Bible?
Were temporal pressures so pressing that, if she knew the source, she was willing to rescind the origin of the phrase?
1.) Did she not know from where the phrase originated?
2.) Did she know the passage from Matthew, and allow a political machine to corrupt her religious standards?
Either way, I'm not happy with the result. I was suspicious of her, politically, from that point onwards.
    Regards,
    Peggy

So when you who are not Christians wear skulls and crossbones on your clothing, participate in goth activity, and have parades with demons and witches, you think that is normal? Ah, I look forward to the new administration. It will be a crime to speak out against homosexuality. Well, the GOD I serve is GOD because HE has said all of this is to come to pass.

    • Posted By: Stephanie G @ 10/29/2008 2:23:36 PM

Mrs. Thomas, what I wear or what I practice in my religious beliefs is not your business or the government's unless I am on your doorstep trying to do you harm. If I am not to be saved, that's between God and me and I don't really see where the government should have anything to do with it. I wonder how I read the same Bible but yet my God is loving and forgiving and gives not a hoot if I choose to dress Goth or not, as long as I respect Him and His people?

Talking to God is fine so long as you leave your illusions out of my government, but if you think God is talking back, you are a paranoid schizophrenic with delusions of grandeur.

What a national disgrace. Putting this fruit loop one heart beat from the button is terrifying.

These nuts been waiting for so long for the Messiah that helping the end times come faster thru the use of a few missiles doesn???t seem so implausible when you hear them talking about witches and dead pigeons.

palin is a liar, to the US and to the RNC. Her only loyalty is to her real party, the Alaskan Independence Party:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NK2sFJebGc

Dexter Clark, vice chairman of the Alaska Independence party confirming that Sarah Palin was once a member of the AIP. The clip is long, you can skip to 6:00 in to hear the reference to Palin.

"Our current governor, we mentioned at the last conference, the one we were hoping would get elected, Sarah Palin, did get elected. There's a joke, she's a pretty good looking gal, there's a joke goes around we're the coldest state with the hottest governor. And there was a lot of talk about her moving up. She was an AIP member before she got the job as a mayor of a small town -- that was a non-partisan job. But you get along to go along -- she eventually joined the Republican Party, where she had all kinds of problems with their ethics, and well, I won't go into that. She also had about an 80% approval rating, and is pretty well sympathetic to her former membership."

Clark goes on to talk about the need for AIP members to change to whichever party they believe will help them win in their region as a means to "infiltrate the major political parties."

Take the time to listen to this in total to get a better idea of where she truly stands ... it's not for us Americans.
